The teenager needed money... badly. She could only put off rent so long before getting evicted. So as much as she didn't want to, she had to take on another job. She really needed to balance her money better. Though she is a math nerd, it's hard to properly balance everything in such a complicated and illogical society such as this one. Plus it was so hard to resist buying the nice new and shiny parts that she needed for her personal projects. Splurging on technology for herself was a weakness she hated to admit she had.
So after getting dressed up into some reasonably clean clothes, she left her small apartment building and headed for the most reliable place in Talonia to get a job, the bar. The home of low-life thugs and mercenaries, where they went to spend all their chump change getting drunk and spilling about all their exaggerated stories. Where people go to hire all these people for cheap since they know their broke and have nothing else to do.
It was midday so she hoped she didn't have to deal with all the overly loud drunk people that tended to be around the bar at nighttime. Though sometimes they were around during the day, and that wasn't really a preferable situation. Considering that sometimes there are creeps that try and hit on her, leading to her beating them up and sometimes starting a bar fight because of it. Delta would rather no have to go through all the trouble of dealing with all that crap. So when she arrived at the quiet bar, she let out a silent sigh of relief. Some of the few people there lifted their gaze towards her then continued with their lives, others didn't even bother looking. The scientist immediately made her way over to a small board with paper tacked to it. Her brown eyes quickly skimmed over the words, scanning for anything that would be a quick and easy job that would still get her decent cash. Though she wasn't expecting to see one, so much to her surprise, she did end up finding one.
Stopping on went put their by Theobold Thawn, a small time thug looking for somebody to temporarily work for him while his men were out of commission. Looked easy enough, just had to work as an enforcer, rough some weaklings up so they'd give what they owed. The girl would proceed to rip the paper off, not bothering to take the pin out of it. She stuffed it in her short's left back pocket and turned to leave. Suddenly coming face to face, well more like face to chest, with a large man she assumed to be a patron of the bar. Adjusting her glasses with a single finger along the bridge of her nose, she'd glare up at him, not amused with him being in her path.
"Whats a little punk like you doing in a place like this?" the muscle-head asked tauntingly. Apathetically with undertones of annoyance, the Nov replied.
"Frankly, that's none of your business, now if you'd get out of my way" she said as rushed to move around him before being abruptly stopped by a hand grabbing her chest, pushing her backwards slightly. Harshly, she whipped her head to face in the man's direction, giving him a deadly glare.
The man chuckled, apparently not threatened "If looks could kill" he muttered under his breath, yet loud enough for the teenage scientist to hear rather clearly. "You won't be needing this girly" he grinned disgustingly, gripping his hand that was on her tighter. Crumpling the paper and dropping it as he looked down at her. Grinding her teeth, the girl would move with surprising speed. She proceeded to grab his hand and push her thumb into it before wrenching it away from her, twisting it in the process. The gross man would have to move to her will or risk getting his arm broken, or worse. Before anybody could react, he was face first on the splintering bar floor. Summoning her knife in hand she'd touch him with it, tasering him with the glowing green blade. There was enough volts in it to completely knock out the man.
Standing to her feet, people would look at the petite figure in shock, confusion and fear. Pointing her blade out to the general crowd "Anybody else?" her voice sharp like a knife rang out in the completely silent pub. There was a pause, some shuffled in their seats, daring individuals. Lightning speeds she pointed the knife down at the man she knocked out on the floor. Using it's grappling hook function she'd launch it, stabbing it through him and into the floor. Nobody moved. Delta retracted the blade, flicking the blood off and dissolving the blade into thin air as she did so. "Good." She left the building, though it stayed quiet in terror for a minute or two after she was gone.
Unlike a lot of people who get harassed, she wasn't really shaken up, it wasn't anything new to her. Plus she killed somebody, do you think some little groping is going to bother her anymore then murder? Yeah, no. By the time she made it to the train station it was afternoon, dealing with all the previously mentioned crap at the bar didn't really take much time. But the walking from one half of the town to the next took most of the time (plus she sort of woke up closer to noon then morning), and she didn't feel like wasting her abilities on travelling faster. Despite how desperate she was for money, the Nov didn't mind a bit of walking, gave her time to think about things. This 'Theobald' person was just going to have to wait a little bit longer before he got his temp enforcer.
Delta sat in the back of the train away from all the people, not saying that there was a lot of people on the train, because there wasn't. The few there were probably some mercenaries like herself travelling out of Talonia to do a job. Or maybe it was a dark job going off to assassinate. Or maybe it was just a really lost legal mage, honestly you couldn't tell by just looking at a person. Being how she is paired with how she looks, Delta knows not to judge people by what they look like or how they act. Because it could be deadly or not dangerous at all with what is underneath the deceiving surface.
It was a quiet ride to Motor City, so much so she was able to get some shut eye that she didn't get the night before. She wasn't one for sleeping, her artificial species didn't need as much sleep as humans needed, especially teenagers. But she still has somewhat of an organic body, so surviving on three hours of sleep over one week makes her quite a bit less functional. So having the little bit of sleep on the train, not needing to worry about getting attacked, was pleasant and she actually very much appreciated it. Not a common occurrence for her as one that doesn't like sleep all that much. But now it was time for work, not that she thought this job was going to be that tough or anything. She just beat up a thug earlier, messing up some nearly broke shop owners wasn't a step up in difficulty.
As she left the train station she called Theobold on her iLac with the number supplied on the paper. Luckily she had computer like memory, and remembered what it was before that despicable human being crumpled it up into a ball, and then her killing him on it. They agreed on a place to meet, so she headed there. She got there rather quickly, but when she arrived he seemed like he'd been waiting for her for days. With the week old beard and wrinkled and sorta stinking clothing. She felt his eyes on her, judging how she looked, this clearly couldn't be who he'd hired. But it was. "Delta?"
"Duh-doy" she said simply with a thick coating of attitude, he just rolled her eyes. Typical behavior for adults when they deal with teenagers. They didn't say much more before they started with their work. Delta was happy he wasn't a man of many words, meant she didn't have to talk much, only when beating up the debtors (which I'll explain in a bit). His aura gave of a sort of silent intimidation, like how it feels before a storm comes, intense and high-strung, but appearing completely apathetic. Though he felt rather weak, she could totally beat him up as easily as she was beating up the following people.
A cowardice man with limbs about as big around as a toothpick, he didn't even bother putting up a fight when seeing Theobold, so the scientist didn't even need to do anything on that stop. The next was not the same, a older woman with just about as much attitude as the N.O.V. herself. But once the brunette pulled out her intimidatingly sharp and glowing green arrow blade, pointing it at the clerk's neck, she was smart enough not to put up a fight. For once not a person judging the teenager by her looks, she appreciated that. Though maybe it was just because she had a blade to her throat, who really knows. She was a tech savvy not a psychologist. Though she was observational, she hasn't had much recent experience reading human emotions.
The third and gratefully the last one, was the one that gave most fight. Even when the girl brought out her knife he didn't back down. It was obvious he was scared, but he clearly needed the money. If she had any caring emotions, she would've sympathized with the guy, but she didn't, she needed the money more in her book. Who cares if he couldn't feed is dying wife and sick children, she needed rent money. A slash against the tendon in his arm, though with a lot of pain, didn't stop him from pulling out a knife that was in cruel shape, and attempting to attack her. Another slash to the other arm and a kick to the chest downed him, leaving him sobbing, snotting all over himself, disgusting. They got the money and left him to bleed.
