Silence... Absolute silence... It would have been considered peaceful, if not for the nagging wind that occasionally tugged at the young girl's hair. Rin hadn't been to a place so barren in a while. The last time she had encountered a forest such as this one was when she had stumbled across one in search of a quiet place to draw. It seemed like such a distant memory, yet it had only been a few weeks prior. Running through the trees, giggles escaping her as she chased after the children that were far from their homes. It had been quite a fun game of "tag" that they had played, but unfortunately, the reason she was here today was not quite as fun or exciting. A call for help from the Magic Council is what beckoned her to this ominous location. There seemed to be some reports of strange mechanical creatures terrorizing local villages. Nobody really knew why they were there, or what they were planning on doing, but they were a nuisance nonetheless, and needed to be dealt with. She couldn't even imagine what a mechanical creature was supposed to look like, but that didn't stop her from jumping at the opportunity to help the Magic Council in any way she could.
Of course, she wouldn't have dreamed of taking on such a mission by herself, especially since it would have forced her to come to such an eerie place alone. Though Rin liked to protest that she was an "adult" at the young age of 16, she was anything but. Fear was an emotion that seemed to haunt her often, and over the simplest of things. Lily would often tease her about her childish fear of the dark, and the fact that she still clung to her teddy bear, Ursa, during the night because of it. These emotions seemed to dissolve whenever she was with her friends, though, which is why she recruited Lester to come along with her. The white haired male always made her feel much more at ease. Not only was he physically stronger, but he also seemed to be mentally stronger as well. The pink haired girl looked up to him in that regard, hoping to learn more from him, and more about him.
Stretching with abandon, Rin sighed deeply, taking in the sunlight that shone through the cracks in the branches of the towering trees. "I wish we could have spent this beautiful day doing something a bit more enjoyable. But I guess there's always work to be done." She mumbled, relaxing her shoulders. "The sun is shining so bright, but we're cooped up in this forest! Why couldn't the mechanical thingies be hanging out on a beach... O-or, on a tropical island!" She continued, a teasing smile spreading across her pale face. Damn these creatures and their "creepy monsters have to live in a creepy place" cliche.
As they ventured further into the woods, Rin reached into her bag, retrieving her iLac and tapping on it's screen lightly. She had made sure to set their destination on the device's map before they left, so that they would know exactly where they needed to be. "I guess we're getting close. We still have a little ways to go, but we should still keep our guard up, just in case." She warned, placing a gentle hand on her friend's shoulder.
