    Job Information:

"What? Again?" Ahote held a white mug full of coffee with cream and sugar, unable to sip from his hot beverage upon hearing what he did. Sitting on a stool against a counter, on the opposite side stood a large, stocky man with a thick, brown beard and small eyes who went by Rufus. The two had talked with each other among themselves in the otherwise empty bar, Rufus cleaning glasses and the raven haired boy drinking from one of those said glasses.

"Yep. That old couple is looking for some more help over in those Spooky Woods. You up for it?" Rufus offered, a crumbled piece of paper on the counter before him. Ahote furrowed his brows, reading the paper's contents. It seemed like a simple job, but he was surprised that he'd get word of such a job in the same location from the same clients as before.

He sighed, finally sipping from his mug with a tired expression. "Yeah, I guess.
I think I'll take my leave before your customers come then, mister Rufus."
Ahote felt the blood rush to his cheeks in excitement in knowing he'd be able to go on another job today, chugging down the caffeinated drink, slamming the mug onto the counter along with a handful of jewels, snatching the paper from the wooden counter, rushing out of the tavern, "Bye then, mister Rufus!" Ahote waved, slithering past the table and out of the doors, into the deep afternoon snow.

Even after he rushed out into the snowy mountain range, quickly putting on his usual thick, woolen coat, the boy did not slow down in his running. He looked down at the job request once more, provoking a series of thought. If I can catch the one-hour train over to the Spooky Forest, spend up to two hours looking for this skunk and catch the same train back, I can be home without anyone noticing a thing. Alright! Ahote surmised, rushing to the nearest train station.

With a brief train ride and a dozen or so minutes of walking, the scenery faded from desolate, snow covered mountains to lively woods and tall, green grass and trees. It was always a delightful ride for Ahote, no matter how often had had been on and off Mt. Hakobe. The change in scenery was always refreshing.

Upon arriving at the Spooky Forest, things seemed as they usually did besides the increase in dead leaves scattered about. It looked more like a forest that belonged in an autumn setting. With both hands tucked away in pants pockets, Ahote let his eyes wander. "They weren't kidding about that terrible view. Leaves everywhere, huh. . ." Ahote mumbled to himself, walking about the woods with the crunch of the leaves under his black, leather boots.

"Well, I guess I should actually start looking. . . it won't just come to me." Ahote continued to ramble, looking in bushes, behind trees, even going as far as looking under rocks. Oh boy, this would take a while.

I WASTED MY TIME 'TIL TIME WASTED ME

    725 words @ahote
    i'm a bit rusty!  /SWEATS
A leaf on the edge of a branch was showing a prominent color, an auburn and the eventual shade of the earth. It was the color of passing. The symbol of change in the season. Slowly it would curl inward, the softness to its texture would fade into something rough and weak. Till at some point, what grasp it held on the branch simply ruptured. Gravity brought it left then right, against the stillness of the silent air, it would land upon the ground aside a form. Just as the leaf, the form did not move, for in the coming of this season, life had also departed the animal. But-- had it truly been the passing of a season? Upon the lull of the eerie woods, it was an unsettling aspect, rather than a comfort. With the peace of silence, there was always a noise to counter it. The call of the birds, the footsteps of a rodent bounding upon the fallen leaves. Instead there was nothing. Nothing but a scent which mutilated the green and the creatures which resided in the forest. It was a toxic air that remained. A dilemma to all. Forced to flee, most of what had lived in the area was either dead or elsewhere. Opposed to the only figure which appeared physically unaffected by the toxic fume.

What seemed as a human trudged onward, wielding a stick and a laundry clip bound firmly around his nose. Rather than on the fall of death, there was furrow in his brow. An evident sign of frustration and exhaustion from moving through the thickness of the bush. Dirt was scattered over the flesh, strands of teased crimson scattered and disheveled. There were even a few notable signs of bruising on his features, from what was assumed as some sort of harsh descent. Yet despite the tire in his body, he kept on moving. It was unclear what was so persistent in his mind that he did not bother to catch his own breath. Every minute or so which passed by, the figure mumbled, spewing out curse words and questions to nobody in particular. Eventually the motion came to a halt, wiping the sweat from his brow to glimpse at the forest. The once brilliant shade of green was gradually dying, the sunlight exposing more of what had once been shadowed.

It wasn't as if he were concerned about the well-being of the land before him. If anything, it would heal over time, just as a wound did. It may leave a scar, but even then it would become so overlapped, that one day it would simply not be noticeable. Death was not something which could be avoided, and the fragile lives of human and animal alike reminded him of that. If one was desperate enough, to seek out harm upon another, it could certainly happen. Just as it had to him, and just as it had to many others. The stick in hand throttled into the ground, stirring the leaves with a slight crunch. For awhile he'd listen, hoping that some sort of sound would make itself obvious that it simply was not another leaf falling. Sure enough, a few lengths elsewhere, he could hear the sound of something moving. The exhale and inhale, the pauses and the continuation. It was of a decent size, whatever it was, but he moved forward as quietly as he could.

Just beyond the wall of green, the shadow of something moved, apparently flipping rocks upward and searching for something. Whatever it was-- he could not entirely be certain. Instead with the stick poised high, it was swung before the consideration of looking. The end of the object rebounded from the surface of something hard, possibly a skull, emitting an obvious sound of discomfort. Hoping to step around and confront the apparent cause of the scent upon the air, he instead came face to face with what was familiar. To what had instead, aided him in this forest before. Quiet for a moment, the weapon descended, and the golden pools stilled in surprise. "You..." Theo would start, gathering the situation. "I thought I told you this is no place for a kid... what the hell are you doing here?" with the usual venom returning, deciding against an apology in the still lingering surprise, he awaited an answer instead.

Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes) Empty Re: Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes)

Post by Ahote 21st December 2017, 2:18 pm

There was always an issue with these woods, it seemed. A terribly noisy forest despite how spooky it was made out to be. If anything, Ahote felt more comfortable wandering out onto these dirt paths and beholding the groves of trees he'd come to find. The chirps of small birds, the crunch of forest critters scurrying across dead, autumn leaves, the crisp smell of the winds, it was all so very soothing to Ahote. Ever since he was young, so young that he was still with Kanix, he had been surrounded with the beauty of Mother nature. It was more of a home to him than his actual home was.

The raven haired boy held no contempt for the old couple who would invite him to these woods, unknowing of his presence. In fact, he was pleased when he got a request from them. Being able to interact with an ecosystem and environment beyond a snow covered rock was always delightful, even exciting for him. But today's trip had been especially exciting knowing he'd be able to interact with an animal, one on one. In this case, he wasn't particularly afraid of skunks, or had any opinion on them at all, really. They were cute at face value, but he wasn't quite sure what this particular skunk would look like.

I've never heard of a skunk that sprays plant life, killing it. I'm not sure if it'll harm me, so I guess I should be careful. . . He thought to himself, flipping stones and pushing through bushes in hopes in finding the black and white beast. But perhaps such a touchy approach wasn't the wisest if he was not wanting a spray. But at the thought of the smelly creature, a much more beautiful, majestic image popped in his mind.

Pausing for a brief moment, Ahote recalled his past encounter with a mysterious, unidentified creature who came to him in distress with an injured shoulder. It's skin was strange, a mixture of smooth scales and soft feathers, a chilling black coloring its flesh followed by stunning gold eyes. It was a truly beautiful beast, but since their exchange, was never to be seen again.

Ahote resumed his search with those ideas in mind, feeling his abdomen begin to ache with all the bending down. "Not there. . . or here either. . ." Ahote droned, tired of straining his hues in looking through leaves and other vegetation. But before the boy could continue his investigation elsewhere, some rough object quickly whipped against the back of his head, knocking him forward, startled. "Ow!" he squeaked, sitting on the ground with both hands hugging his head.

After realizing that the impact wasn't so painful, he raised his head to face his attacker with angry eyes and furrowed brows, "Hey-. . . !!" He began, only to quickly found himself at a loss for words in seeing the familiar Theo Calathes with a clip pinching his chocolate nose.

Ahote quickly stood to his feet, dusting his shorts and shirt off before regaining eye contact with hs acquaintance, his expression unfaltering, "That hurt, you know! What's the big idea?! What are you even doing?" he scolded him, waving his finger around, rambling on about the dangers of hitting others with sticks, and to look where one's going, other things. "Do you live here or something?!"

I WASTED MY TIME 'TIL TIME WASTED ME

    704 words @ahote
    i'm a bit rusty!  /SWEATS
A trench had forced upon the arch of the brows, golden irises glaring brilliantly in the shade, as if they were emitting a slight and inhuman glow. With the weapon, built upon the fallen growth of a tree was nestled into the bedded floor, layered by the auburn leaves. Lifeless and evident of the toxic fume which was currently corrupting the forest. Before the scent had been so prominent it had smelt like rotten eggs and the backlash of forgotten trash, yet the straining clip upon his flesh was fully blocking out the stench. How it had no affected the youth-- or perhaps it had-- was briefly curious. He was more so troubled that this boy had wandered into the forest yet again, the assumption coming forth as another harmless job from the elderly couple. Or rather had it been the persistent display of exploration that took on these tasks from a pair that simply couldn't deny the help.

Swiftly, Ahote started his maddened drift of chatter, the act of scolding clear in the wave of his hand. Looking elsewhere, the teeth sunk into the tongue, holding tightly onto the reins which wished for a counter. "You didn't exactly come at the right time... you shouldn't even be here." finally allowed a moment to speak, the plug was removed from the nose, discarding a red mark upon the flesh. Quickly he'd place it upon the other, more concerned with the presence before him than the creature which was spreading death among the green. "Keep that on, the smell is getting worse.. don't tell my you took another job from those old folks." the arms folded over the chest, tapping the strip of branch upon his shoulder. Feet motioned elsewhere, turning the form into the opposing direction. "Of all the places you had to come here. Are you asking for a death wish?" beginning to move, it was only expected that the other would follow. Despite the toxicity which was spewing past his lips-- the harsh and perhaps crude honesty.

"I really hate idiots." with a grumble, the harshness peered back at the boy, observing him momentarily in regards to the comment. Or had it been a genuine question? Theo kept quiet for a moment, continuing up the slope of uneven ground and the slow embrace of crowded trees. "I live here, exactly why I don't appreciate kids trespassing. I've told those two old-timers over and over again, if they needed help they should just leave it to me. But, here we are, together again. What a pain in my ass. I've got a kid and some crazed animal to take care of." the grumpy ramble started, smacking the stick against the passing branches with an obvious display of annoyance laced in his words. Remaining civil had failed the moment the apparent weapon had struck the back of the skull, an accident of course. The nose had been severed of the potential sever in scenting that the shadow behind the bush had been a human. It wasn't as if isolation had caused Theo to become a literal savage.

Within the burn of his building temper, there was a distinct noise within the distance. A flutter upon the leaves. Abruptly stopping, just enough it might have startled the other, the odor was more clear in the current which passed downward. Just a few lengths before the pair, was the obvious form of a skunk, black fur, lined by an ivory marking. The way it moved however was unnatural, and the horrible venom it gave circled around it as if a heavy smog within the city. There was a crimson shade within the beady eyes, saliva spilling past the parted jaws, teeth jagged. How it growled and jerked, falling left than right was a frightening thing. Obviously the creature was infected, with what-- didn't exactly make sense. "Be quiet... you see that?" the arm forcefully circled around the shoulder, impelling Ahote into his side so he could get a better view. Eventually a gesture had been made with the object. "That is what we're looking for." not expecting aid, some part of him wondered if the youth would head opposite to the apparently demonic looking animal.

Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes) Empty Re: Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes)

Post by Ahote 26th December 2017, 12:11 pm

Ahote would ramble on to the taller, chocolate skinned man about his qualms. But a certain pause was reached and the boy broke from his scolding, allowing his acquaintance to have a moment to speak, and speak he did.

As usual, he wasn't fond of the idea that the raven haired youth had been in these woods, for reasons that boy did not know. Pinching the end of a clothes clip, Theo proceeded to remove the wooden tool from his nose and onto Ahote's, leaving a line of red, pressured skin where the clip once was. Clearly he had been shielding his nostrils from sort of dangerous or odorous scent, a scent that remained unknown to Ahote. Still, he accepted the gesture of concern and readjusted the clip on his nose for better comfort, and uncomfortably let his mouth hang open to breathe.

However, the exchange happened quickly and reluctantly, as topaz hues raised back to Theo's crisp, golden ones, still worn on his flustered, upset face. "Okay, well, if an old, cranky couple can live here with their hands clean, I'm pretty sure a kid of my caliber could do just fine. It's just critters and bugs around here, anyway. And they pay nicely!" Ahote challenged, lifting himself from the ground and beginning to trail behind his company with crossed arms hugging his chest, scrunched brows, and flushed, red ears.

Two pairs of feet crunched against sheets of dead leaves, all brown and dry. The crisp forest air had now been replaced with the odor of a lurking beast with a spray that killed the greenery, and it seemed as if Ahote hadn't experienced its stench considering he was unaware to any sort of stench beforehand. But with Theo lurking and wandering about the depths of the Spooky Forest for what seemed to be an eternity, it was only natural he would smell something out of the ordinary.

Despite those thoughts, Ahote remained irritated, even more so after Theo's grumbles slipped past his lips and rolled off his tongue as sharp as a knife. But before he could retaliate, Theo began to ramble on about his frustrations. Quickly, Ahote's cheeks flushed as red as his ears in anger as his arms unfolded from his chest and began to move about in multiple gestures of anger, "Oh gee whiz, mister Calathes! My dearest sympathies for what troubles and pain you must endure. You know, interacting with other people and maybe not isolating yourself here until your grave greets you. I know, it's just terrible!" he argued, continuing on and on about how he was doing him a favor in coming to get rid of the beast that troubled them so. In fact, he continued to argue the entire trip over to wherever the beast was.

Fuming, Ahote's curses were abruptly halted when he strolled into the man's back, not knowing that he had stopped from his usual pace. "Hey, why'd you stop all of a sudden--...?!" he blurted before he was quickly hushed, and hush he did when brown, strong arms coiled around his shoulder and pulling him into a clearer view of whatever drove Theo to pause. Ahote's topaz hues followed Theo's crimson ones down to a fuzzy figure of black and white, instantly realizing what had been lurking there. "That's the skunk? What do we do now? Do we kill it? I didn't want to kill it, but I'm not going to peacefully relocate it with my bare hands, either. . . it'd bite my hand off. . ." Whispering, the raven threaded boy commented.

As if a light bulb flickered to brightness above his head, Ahote's head slowly rotated to look at Theo, "If only there was someone brave and strong enough to do such a thing.
    . . with their bare hands. . . or a stick. . ."
he grinned, rubbing his shoulder up against Theo's. Clearly he had hoped peer pressure would do the trick.

Without delay the other countered, clearly flustered by the harshness which had spewed past his lips. Endeavoring to return the same, it was a thankful thing the banter did not continue to embark down an endless cycle of bickering. Not that the idea was entirely pleasing with someone that was regularly fueled by overcoming others in venomous words and eventual violence. However it was never a fair game when the opposing was just some curious brat. The situation itself was a nuisance, especially now that their target had appeared just a few lengths up the slope. Stumbling over within the leaves, snarling and clawing at the ground. Within the smokey toxins that coiled around it, it was losing more of the mundane features that were familiar with a skunk than the seeming deformation of flesh and shadow. Probably-- no most likely, the creature was suffering. This wasn't a natural cause or a disease, but rather something that had been intentional. For a brief moment something of discomfort countered his fearless notion, the brow furrowing into a cautious glimpse to the left, and then to the right.

Theo was hesitating, prior to his daunting nature of simply charging forth without thought, there was just something wrong about this situation. The gesture strained him back into reality, the playful nudge into the shoulder-- and the obvious jeering comment of the other returning what flare he held before. A scoff retreated past the lips, turning elsewhere to sever the distance between the both of them. Wooden material adjusted itself in the palm of his hand, a slight weight upon the apparent display of muscle. Again the golden hue traced the obscured path towards the moving shadow, the growling becoming more apparent than before. It certainly had not taken note of the company, or perhaps it was so tormented by the toxins which spewed outward. Tainting and teasing the clarity of the mind. What reactions it had given, could surely seem that way towards any which passed by.

"Typical of a brat to avoid work." he'd comment, the length of the tool resting upon the shoulder. Abruptly did the figure move, his speed more conspicuous than anything. Like a breeze which passed through the crowd of the trees, the shadow had been more aware in sound than he had originally guessed. Merely a step away, the jagged end of the branch struck the ground rather than the crazed animal. It did not run, but it certainly did not brawl with one that overcame in size and strength. The odor from the form was more of an attack than claw and fang. Closer with the dilemma, Theo chocked on the density, reaching upward to shield his mouth. "You damned animal, just stay still." voice slightly wrecked by the taint upon air, there was an anger that settled on the tone. The object struck the ground again, and again. Two figures ran in circles, playing a game of chase. Branches left their tracing upon his face, gradually he was tiring without the strength of daylight breaking down. It was pretty convenient for the one which he was desperately trying to kill.

But, with the random jerking of muscle, the eventual edge tore through flesh and bone. Instantly the creature had been crushed, leaving the toxin to float upon the current as if it had never existed. Theo coughed, the sudden distinctness from clean air flooding into his lungs. With the shadow entirely gone, it was more apparent to observe the animal below his feet. Tossing the crimson into the branches, the sweat was wiped by the palm of the hand. A knot formed immediately upon the chest, noticing the thin lining of a collar wrapped around the lifeless body. There was a number upon it, and a remarkable light that fluttered in and out. As if emitting some sort of signal. Fear was gradually overwhelming his emotions-- not as though he feared the restraints which were placed upon animals, but rather the familiarity of the number and the symbol altogether.

Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes) Empty Re: Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes)

Post by Ahote 29th December 2017, 5:12 pm

Ahote would snicker upon Theo's comment, knowing it was his jeering words of encouragement that did the trick. In any case, the boy knew that he would have to be forced to do such a thing, too hesitant to confront such a physical issue as this was. Many things this boy has seen and done, but it would never make him retreat from his defensive instincts.

Ahote took a step back as Theo would move forward, moving far enough to have a clear view of his acquaintance and only a glimpse of the creature in waiting. "Don't hurt yourself. Don't let that thing bite you, too! Make sure you don't--. . .!!" Ahote fretted, hugging his chest with tense arms as Theo lunged at the beast. Although he panicked, no words could leave his lips as struggle continued.

Anxiously, he kept his distance in wait for the deed to be done. But when lunges came quicker and stronger and the rustling deep within the leaves of the bush increased in volume and frequency, the boy felt himself no longer able to keep quiet within his own thoughts, "Don't kill it, don't kill it, don't kill it. . . Theo, don't kill it. . .!" Ahote cupped his jaw within his right, fleshed hand, his metal arm hugging his right's as a squeak rang in his ears, and the rustling had stopped along with Theo's jerks.

Quietly, the youth stalked over to the taller, seemingly older man with great hesitation, but the overwhelming curiosity of what happened driving him forward. He stepped beside Theo, peering over his shoulder to view the pierced and dead animal before them. Instantly, his panicked expression morphed into a weary frown, topaz eyes fixed on the carcass, "Annnd you killed it. Great job, dingus. It's almost as if you did exactly what I told you do. Yeah, really, props." Ahote grumbled, briefly turning to Theo and nudging his shoulder with his own before returning his attention back to the skunk carcass, taking note of the abnormal state of its neck, "Oh, wait. Is there something on its neck?" he queried, leaning into the depths of the bush with his left, metal arm extended.

His two digits grazed upon the lifeless animal's neck, hearing the clinking of metal against metal, submerged in its fluffy coat. It was clear that it had been wearing a collar, judging by the fur that was pressed down around its neck and the circular object that he felt wrapped around it. Naturally, with his inquisitive spirit, all qualms were brushed aside as he extended his other arm to search for some sort of lock, "Here, hold on," he would comment, groping about the collar in search for some sort of mechanism for it to unlock. After several moments of his investigation and groping about, digits pressed down on a small, metal button, and following that came a clicking noise. Immediately, the raven haired boy felt the grip of the collar loosen, and slipped it off the skunk, retrieving it from darkness and into the view of both he and Theo.

"So it was a collar, huh?" he confirmed, holding it between metal digits, rotating it before topaz hues rolled to Theo, who remained still and tense. Puzzled, Ahote placed his fleshed hand on his shoulder, "You alright? You didn't get bit, did you?
    Here, let me see."
Ahote questioned him with his usual soft voice, leaning to grab his hand and inspect it. Clearly, the collar wasn't the greatest of his worries at the very moment.

Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes) Empty Re: Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes)

Post by ghðst 8th February 2018, 4:52 pm

The fear that had approached was overwhelming-- it drowned out the banter into a blur throughout the cascade of thoughts and the building realization. Silence was given in regards to the scolding which came from the youth, the widened gold glaring down upon the lifeless form. It wasn’t just something of random. The meaning behind this was as clear as day, yet still he could not move. He felt nauseous-- endeavouring just to grasp onto the steady pacing of his breath. Only when the other shifted to initiate touch, did Theo ease into the fact that he was not alone. With sightings settling elsewhere, the hand eventually jerked from the embrace as if abashed by the concern that had been expressed. “I’m fine,” he’d say, voice oddly quiet prior to the harshness just before their encounter. Left then right, back than front did the irises trace the decaying forest. Through the dead leaves and the thinning of the trees, through the sky and stillness of shadow. It seemed as though he were looking for something. “We need to go… now.” firmly the fingers grasped the arm, beginning to drag Ahote along without warning.

“We should have never came here… you should have never come back here.” starting along with the forceful march, frantically he kept looking back. Throttling the youth forward just enough for him to stumble a few lengths to the front, he slowed into a halt. “You’re going to keep running. You’re going to get the hell out of here, and never come back.” the harshness was returning, the notion clear in his features. Despite the furrow in the brows, it appeared more overwhelmed than irritated. “You can’t trust anyone, even me-- do you understand?” the fierceness in those captivating eyes countered the equally alluring shade, “If you ever come back here Ahote, I will kill you.” although it had been said, it did not sound as true as he was trying to make it be. Just as swiftly had the meaningless threat been said, there was a stir within the heaviness of the air. A warmth which violently grappled against the space around it, tracing fallen leaves and bursting between the pair. Such heat left flickers against the ground before them. Devoured by gravity it sunk into the earth, disembarking with a distinct smell of smoke. One step had been taken by the strike, one look had been given to simply understand why harm had not yet come. It was also a threat.

“You’re right. He should have never came here.” a voice called, distance was kept but it was close enough to be visible. Theo hadn’t required the need to look up, he knew they were surrounded. “But it is a wonder, subject twelve. If you were so keen on protecting the boy, you should’ve left a lasting impression. Half-hearted threats are unlike you, so it is a likely solution that your time from home has just made you soft.” it was the voice of a woman, her fingers danced in the motion of the tone. Mocking and intent on bother-- certainly it could work wonders. Tightening fists shuddered against the side, strands teased by ruby shielded the beauty to such an intense gaze. “No matter, we shall kill the boy and you shall come back with us. You are a valuable asset to this world, we cannot have something as daft as a child getting in the way of our plan.” there was no hesitation, the encirclement fluttered in notions of fire.

“No.” the voice stopped them, yet their flames still roused violently in hand. Theo stepped out, shadowing the youth behind him. There lay the solid foundation of fear and an overlay of forgotten memories which haunted the mind. Forever had he wished them to be untouched. It was the very reason he had come this far. And it was the very reason he was not willing to tremble in the corner as those responsible for these scars came to place more upon his soul.

“No? Did I hear you correctly?” the fakery in her tone seemed confused. It was as if those should have felt threatened over the genuinity that was overlapping her previous intent on a meaningless jest. Theo scoffed at the response, “Fucking rats, you heard me right. I’m not coming back and you’re not touching this boy.” as if the fire were a symbol of their emotions, it cascaded outward and towards the pair. Expectedly there was nowhere to run when the circle had been flooded by fire, like the bowl was being filled by milk. Either they were the lucky which floated upward, or simply settled beneath the weight. Perhaps it had been a bit of both. When the fire came close enough it rebounded against a surface that was invisible. Only brief flashes of light expressed the contact. Whence the element had entirely enveloped them, they could see nothing of it. Still did the force keep them at safety until the attack had been wrung dry. Like the last drop within a glass, did they lower their hands in slight exhaust. The one whom spoke only stood tall and unfazed that the swarm had done nothing to the still standing pair. She raised her chin however, the only visible feature, and glanced at the grouping which had tired so.

Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes) Empty Re: Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes)

Post by Ahote 13th February 2018, 7:47 pm

The boy's quickly widened and with a twinkle shock in their glossy centers as his hand was violently whipped back in rejection, topaz rimmed hues narrowing into a glare of concern during Theo's hushed, reassuring words. Was he just fine, or was that some sort of lie? The ominous, daunting gloom possessing the stronger, more adult man spread like a contagious virus, leaving Ahote sweaty with worry, but the gut wrenching burden of not knowing what had overcame the two. But despite his doubts, the raven haired youth had no time to question Theo as he began to hastily pull him by his right arm, muttering with a grave, deep voice.

Ahote had let himself be dragged for all but a few seconds before yanking back in resistance, brows furrowed and a mouth hanging open, looking for the words to say, but saying them anyway, "Hey! Theo! What's gotten into you?! Hey!" he argued, continuing on of his complaints and questions, lips unable to reach a pause, breaths quick and heavy. That was, until he had been thrown just ahead of the somber Theo, silenced by his threats. His voice became harsher, louder, eyes radiating with a certain vexation mixed with an even more peculiar uneasiness. He looked that of an animal who sensed danger, but what danger? What among skunks and squirrels could frighten him so terribly?

The boy had flinched in the mere utterance of the world "kill." It rung in his ears and echoed in his mind. Noise became like static and felt himself drift into an uncomfortable numbness. But something
assured him that those words were not have been truthful. They couldn't have been. The hope of the potential lie restored the boy, Ahote's indignant expression softening into that of a worried on, lips scrunched in the middle and eyes glistening with a friendly amount of concern. Breaths slowed and lips began to move, "Theo, if something's about to happen, isn't it better if you and I both just. . ." he began, only to be interrupted by the very harbinger Theo seemed to have fretted about.

Flames had burst between the two men, and while the orangish-red flames had cackled and twisted formlessly in its space, only the lips of deadly heat kissed their skin, leaving Ahote stumbling to the ground and Theo apparently unfazed. Even if only tumbling a few feet away from the flames, the boy had panted like a dog in desert heat, chest inflating and deflating rapidly his left hand grabbing his chest through his thin shirt.

Ahote slowly raised his head, vision narrowed to that of a cornered beast, flickering between the figures ahead of him and his silent partner. Who were these people, and why had Theo been so quiet? Was he hurt? The youth rotated his head to face him, but flinched at the utterance of an unfamiliar title. "Subject. . . twelve?" Ahote tiredly whispered to himself, becoming even stiffer at the mention of his upcoming death. At the frightening words, the boy felt himself weighed by the many anxieties and possibilities of what could happen. What would happen. Was he to die? Die alone? Out here? The more he thought of it, the more raw and disturbing he felt the stress posses him. What was he to do? What could he do? What would Theo do? Even if surrounded by the presences of so many people, never did the boy feel so alone. His mind became black and shut his eyes to the light of day, doing his best to ignore the sinister voices of the unknown. That was, until the deep, silvery voice he had become so acquainted with had become a part of that presence.

Ahote raised his head to Theo's loud and stubborn rejection, as if a glimmer of hope had possessed him once more and filled him with the courage to keep his eyes open. He remained idle on the ground, listening to the strangers and Theo bark at one another. "Theo. . ." Ahote spoke softly with a trembling voice, struggling to keep himself from shouting. His words, although cold and harsh as usual, never filled him with such awe before now. In the moment, if it were only brief, Ahote had felt that of a kinship with him.

Flames lunged out to the pair, like ravenous wolves to a trembling and cornered hare, a well known heat rushing closer to them, and a new layer of sweat enveloping the boy's face as he greeted death with an expression of terror, only to be further surprised by a blinding light that flashed continuously as the formless fire smashed against some sort of surface. Whatever it was, Ahote had not seen it, as he had glanced elsewhere in the midst of all the excitement.

His gaze returned to a still standing Theo, and never had his expression been so full of relief and a newfound amazement. It had further instilled the boy with an even deeper, irrefutable resistance he could only feel when on the brink of death. A feeling that possessed him just moments before the deaths of Angus and others, and a feeling he so greatly feared. But never before did he cling to it so tightly, for before him was reason enough for him to let it consume him. The hairs on his pale flesh stood erect, goosebumps covering his body from head to toe, and heart racing too fast for him to count the beats. Blood rushed through his veins as it so eagerly pumped through his body, flushing his cheeks red and submerging him in adrenaline. He felt as if he could strike through steel, but had not moved a muscle.

"What. . . the. . ." he begun, wide eyes blinking, fixing between the distant figures and his tawny friend. Ahote rose to his feet, knees bent and body trembling, but his expression gross with disdain and a subtle anxiousness, "I. . . I don't know what the hell's going on, but you can explain to me after we get out of this, Theo!" he cursed under his breath, raising curled fists to the air, ready to fight on his part. Although pathetic in comparison to the powerful man just ahead of him, the trembling teenager stood anyway.

Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes) Empty Re: Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes)

Post by ghðst 21st February 2018, 1:52 pm

He could clearly make out the frown in those wrinkly lips, how swiftly they had been to comprehend their mistake. Pouring out the most of their energy into one singular attack was the worst of it. For an individual that was so well attuned with the truth in his identity, she had made the brash decision of underestimating what strength he had left. Brows furrowed and the confidence was returning, yet still did he shield the boy with fear that they might strike again. It was unfortunate that Theo was not as gifted in this body than he was in a more suitable flesh. The fragile layer of skin that was at a potential for harm, it was as if he’d gone from eagle to sparrow. Yet a body was just a body, still did his mask show differently than the majority of humankind. Weak and clumsy creatures that invested the world like cockroaches. Theo was still a sparrow among the cockroaches, he was still different.

A harsher perspective; of course he did not think of them all to be the same. The silence was still there, the tension consuming them. Especially Ahote, for a moment he’d thought the cowardly nature of the boy was comical in the idea he had been so abrash prior to their encounter with the flames. Then did guilt approach. What nauseating fear that he had forced aside, just to stand up and potentially aid without even knowing the reason did not make him feel touched. Only for a moment perhaps, still it was wrong to have someone that barely knew of the situation get involved. It was just like before.

Theo didn’t appreciate the memory, or maybe it was the good memories that pained him the most. However- he hated it. He hated to look upon all the good memories knowing he could never have them again. They were just memories. A dream that had shattered. Theo never understood sadness until he had lost what he cared for the most. “I’d have never guessed you were capable of anything in that form.” the voice of their enemy spoke, long nails stroking the left of her cheek in thought. She appeared to be gathering an idea, another route to potentially deal with what should have been dealt in fire. “Perhaps we have taken you for granted, subject twelve.” it almost sounded like an apology. The fact that her words surely sung in mockery made his teeth glare visibly in sight.

“Leave then.” he started, not sure of himself, “If you don’t know what you’re dealing with, get the hell out of here.” threats that teased a laugh into the woman. The one before them was amused, but the pair and the others which scattered about all felt the weight.

“Don’t be so quick to say goodbye, shall we not chat for awhile? I have many things to ask you.” a step was taken forward, he shifted back and into the youth.

“Shut up.” with every word, every ounce of dare brought him a step forward once again. “You know nothing about me other than the records you read. I know that these scrawny bastards have used up all their power, and I doubt you have anything else to offer.” again another step, he was further from the boy, “If you know what’s good for you and your men… then leave. Before I bite off that head and leave it for the forest you poisoned.” compared to the previous demeanour, there seemed a precise moment of dismay in the poisonous spirit of this woman. She took a step back, glanced between the other shrouded individuals, and simply tilted the crown forward. Like smoke upon the current the circle vanished into the breeze.

“Subject twelve, you will not get very far, I assure you this.” the voice rebounded against the charred roots, the smoke still burning at their eyes and stinging the sense of smell. Though they were alone- how long that would last was not certain. Theo caught the breath that had been struggling, the heart pounding against the walls of his chest. Or had it been the heart? Whatever it was within this body, it made him feel nearly close in losing the capability of taking in a breath. Of standing tall and without a shuddering form.

“W-We need to go…” managing to stammer a reply to Ahote, he reached for his arm again, desperate to get out of here. “Come now. They will come back for us.” a quickened pace forced the other along, easily moving past the tall trees as the many array of leaves and bush had now fallen. It was much easier to see through the rifts now that there was no more coverage. “I had merely lied to them, so do not take any of that seriously. The fact that they had believed it was a miracle enough, but we won’t get another chance.” the voice sounded uneasy, and perhaps it had been a source of worry in itself that someone whom usually spoke so crudely was now sounding frightened. Unlikely in the individual that had often confronted the worst.

Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes) Empty Re: Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes)

Post by Ahote 22nd February 2018, 1:31 pm

With fists raised and prepared to be swung, Ahote could feel his fingers lay in the sweat of his palm, breaths so shallow and hushed that he himself had to remind himself to take deeper ones. His body settled into a stillness as opposed from its previous state of trembling, but muscles wrapped so tightly to his bones that he struggled to inch away from this spot on the dirt and only moved to blink and swallow his spit, eyes anxiously darting from the dying fires to the defiant Theo. His face burned and head throbbed, but skin remained icy cold, a layer of sweat coating it.

Time had come and passed the group in what only seemed to be the blink of an eye. The sudden roars of flames now died down to weak crackling, an exchange of words from tongues like knives and looks that felt like the other end of guns when fixed by their gaze now settled into silence. Color drained from the world surrounding them, from all except Theo and the intruders, and nothing seemed more terribly vibrant. Still, Ahote hid in the shadow of the men and women, struggling to keep himself afloat in the sea of hostility. Like a rushing wave at sea, it came, it went, and there were still waters.

As if someone had clenched his heart with a tight, burdening grip had suddenly released, the tension filling his just like air had lifted and settled into a rush of relief. A pause came, before Ahote had finally slumped down and rested his hands on weak knees, releasing one large breath, “Fucking hell. . .” he cursed, a weak smile cracking his parted lips. His metal hand reached for his chest, gripping it through wrinkled clothes and feeling his heart race through the bone and flesh. His smile extended to ear to ear, raising his head to check on his hardy friend. “Are you okay, Theo?” he stood erect again, beginning to walk over to him with the same relieved smile stretched across his face, though now beginning to morph into a frown, “Hey, are you listening? Are you- . . .!” he began, only to be interrupted by Theo’s stammering reply and tight grip on his wrist.

Ahote stumbled along, Theo dragging him restlessly through once lush groves of trees, now burnt and with bark like ash, looking far into the near distance, but seeing nothing but the same images. The raven haired youth began to pull back against his tawny friend’s force, “Hey, let go! Theo!”the boy would grumble, though his pleas seemingly unheard, “Theo!” he shouted again. But once more, Theo would continue to drag him through the forest, quickly and anxiously. With a red nose and neck, scrunched brows and trembling eyes, Ahote jerked his arm away, “Could you cut it out?!” he barked, his cheeks becoming like peaches and breaths quicker.

He fell silent, rapid breaths slowing to shallow ones. Ahote would then run his fleshed digits through his messied, long locks, turning to face Theo once more, “Where exactly do you plan on taking us? Deeper into the forest? You must be insane if you think that either of us would be safe in some shack or cave in this place!” he pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed, “You’re right about us not getting another chance, so I’m going home!” Ahote began to turn away, making small steps in the way they came. He dusted himself off, continued, and then came to an abrupt stop.

His neck and face remained red and hot, though his chest now calm and relaxed. He would pause, eyes heavenward before darting back to Theo and grabbing his wrist, “You should come, too. If they find you again, you’re really going to die this time. So. . . come on!” he began to pull him along. In seeing the once sharp tongued and defiant man reduced to a state of eerie silence and nervousness, Ahote felt almost the need to pull him into an embrace. Pats on the back and whispering "Everything will be alright." Never did the boy ever feel so terribly longing for the train station they headed for, but also a deep compassion for his protector, who was, even if only briefly, unmistakably, unimaginably, cool.

Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes) Empty Re: Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes)

Post by ghðst 26th February 2018, 4:43 am

The frantic protests were clouded like peering through murky waters, his current interest overlapped by a series of worrisome thoughts. As if the irises were a symbol to the stirring resolve in a silent and unanswering individual, they faced downward hoping to seek cover. He could see the rotten floors, yet at the same time he was hardly granting reality the attention it deserved. Fingers gripped tightly upon the arm, frightened to let go of the life that was truly at risk. Just as the hold had desperately reassured itself, the source of warmth had been hauled elsewhere. Theo nearly tripped, surprising himself back into the clarity of now. The youth he’d been stumbling through woodland with had the expression of frustration present in his entire being. Through his voice, to his gestures and to the rise of red within his features. Even when danger was threatening them like a wolf nipping at their heels, Ahote was more akin with the situation than one which should have know.

Ashamed that he couldn’t even question the truth. Even if there had been a chance, it was slipping by as the figure swiftly departed in the opposite direction. Surprisingly however, the distinct fall of movement shifted into silence. By the time Theo had raised his head, exposing what concern lay radiant in captivating eyes, the other had already stood just as close to catch a glimpse. Reversed in the role of tugging, he did not speak or gesture his distaste for being pulled by the youth. Or perhaps it had been the words which startled him further into awkwardly behaving like a mute. Through the lifeless forest did they go-- by the aged home of the couple which were to occupied to have noticed. They moved without rest along the worn path, agitated to encounter civilization before their isolation had been enraptured by the shrouded enemies. Yet as they had found comfort in the crowded gathering that awaited the next train, within his ease he wondered why there had been such a panic in the first place.

The heart was surely restless and unable to settle completely. There were still so many thoughts that came back, prodding and taunting in the need to further the previous rise. Theo wouldn’t let it however-- fingers of a raised hand stirred the hairs on the back of his head, scattering already messy pieces into a still messy state. A heavy breath slipped by the lips, catching sight of the people that awaited the soon approaching outing. What had been on his mind though was not the idea that Ahote had probably been expecting. “For a brat you sure are brave.” the usual cool and unwavering voice returned, the furrow in the brows, the rough and ragged appearance. A startling jump from the quiet and nervous demeanour just moments before. “Even though you looked like you were gonna cry, you just stood up with your fists raised…” Theo scoffed, a smile tugging at his lips, “Like an idiot.” with the gaze scanning the scenery, the gold countered the equally appealing shade.

“Listen, Ahote, because I won’t say it again,” there was a seriousness, unlike the desperation or the anger which had been so mundane in his being. “I’m sorry I got you caught up in my mess, and I hope for you sake you forget about it.” no smile, no arch in the brow, there was simply genuinity. “...I’m not going with you.” the hissing rebound of steam curled outward, the gears shrilling into a halt as the transportation came to a stop. “This is goodbye, for good.” there it was again, the hesitation. He turned around swiftly before it could be seen. Stranger after stranger passed by, hauling luggage along for a lengthy travel, or a purse simply to pass into the next town. The feet started to move opposite to the crowd which patiently boarded the train. Not for a moment did he anticipate that a mere boy could be so persistent in regards to one he hardly knew. But then again, Theo was familiar with the idea of being by himself.

Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes) Empty Re: Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes)

For the majority of their trip to the train station, Theo had remained silent, as did Ahote, both immersed in their own thoughts. Ahote more irritable than the usually sharp tongued and aggressive Theo, and choosing to say nothing beyond what he needed to until the pairs of feet were greeted by the pavement only familiar to stations.

For what seemed to be several minutes, the two stood there among the clueless travelers who patiently waited for the train to arrive, though all bustling with some sort of activity, whether it be picking up a phone call or gossiping with friends. Ahote let the threads of his raven hair fall into his wet eyes and cloud the train tracks and groups of girls in front of him, his nose and cheeks red with the chilling winds and his own frustration. Lips seemed nearly immovable before Theo had opened his, his usually jeering tone replaced with a sincere one, teasing more laughs than fuss. Those words, although few, felt as if they were honey, Ahote's cheeks flushing an even deeper red than before but the sudden praise. His chest unscrewed like bolts, as if a great weight as been lifted from his chest from the unusual and perturbing silence between the two. Still, although they had briefly softened, he insisted on keeping his expression that of an angry boy's. "Yeah, yeah, I get it. Mock me all you want, but I followed my gut, dumbass. . ." he grumbled indignantly.

Another pause came and Theo spoke again, but with a newfound solemnity, greater than before. Ahote raised his head with a frown equivalent to a pouting child's, "What is it?" he would speak with the same harshness, but an inquisitiveness in the reason behind this atmosphere. Next, with a certain amount of bravery and humbleness, Theo declined his offer in returning home with him. The boy's eyes flashed with surprise, still with confusion before settling back in his slumped posture with and almost weary countenance. He sighed, ruffled the back of his head awkwardly and stumbled next to Theo, nudging his shoulder with droopy eyes, "You're so stubborn." he huffed, brows furrowing, "I try not to involve myself with unnecessary hardships or troubles, especially if it doesn't involve me. But. . ." he frowned, the redness returning to his cheeks, "you did
save my life. So, I have to repay you. So even if you don't stay a while, let me feed you some good food from my home. Alright? Quit being stubborn and accept someone's kindness for once."
Ahote would nudge him again, perhaps harder than the last time, but he wasn't paying attention to the strength he put into it.

His topaz eyes drifted off into the scenic distance, past the train tracks and into the surrounding nature. His lips parted once more, releasing a soft, quiet voice, "Besides. .
    ."
he began, "you're not so boring to hang out with. Something interesting always happens. So, I'd really hate to leave things like this. . ." Ahote simpered and turned away, immersed in thought again. Ah, yes, no day spent with Theo was a boring one. There was always something to look forward to, whether it be a deathly clash with strangers or simply hunting a skunk. It was like no feeling he's ever experience. Yes, he enjoyed this.

Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes) Empty Re: Forest Disturbance Part II! (Job/Calathes)

Few steps were taken, one and then another. He hesitated on the third before a figure, just nearly impending the height of his own, nudged him into a halt. Theo blinked in surprise-- was it not the other way around? He thought, countering the words of this newfound friend within the safety of his mind. Another unlikely action when he had been so familiar with blurting things aloud. Never guessing or fearing the consequences. It had been figured that it was the aftermath of their encounter that was still stringing thoughts, actions and words in a mannerism which had been oddly docile. Holding an expression of clear and momentary surprise, the brows furrowed once more, observing the other with an intense wonder.

Save him? An image countered his mind-- the truth to their real encounter. ”That isn’t true.” he’d say aloud, meaning to keep that part for himself rather than allowing it to be heard. ”You’re so bloody persistent--” an irritable mutter rescued the possible attempt at questioning, alongside the abrupt and rather forcible nudge. Theo stepped over, startled by the force in this youth to the point he was not sure whether to retaliate or simply accept the seemingly ‘playful’ gesture. A heavy breath parted into the air, glancing over the crowd that still lingered within the area. The laughter of children, the conversations that held no appeal, and the anxious individuals that were getting ready to travel alone.

”Sometimes being interesting isn’t as great as it may seem.” he’d say, deciding to give up with the earlier idea of leaving. Although it wasn’t necessary, he didn’t mind deluging himself in the different flavours that these humans had managed to create or advance in the following moons which passed. ”Let's go then.” countering the nudge with one that would force Ahote to stumble forward, he started to approach the train. The most of the passengers were already settled within, yet a single open window remained clear of company. Hurriedly the pair took their place. With a silence that still remained, the gold was obscured by the fall of lashes. Whether it had been the rush or the comfort of being settled on something similar to the cushions on a couch, Theo drifted into slumber.

Even in the depths of his sleep did those thoughts come back, those wonders and those possibilities. But most of all-- there remained a clarity in the notion of relief. It was a wonder where he would go. After he’d depart from the home of this youth, where would be the next choice? A forest so in depth it was like a maze, the lifeless void of Sin, or a region so cold that not a single being was able to adapt to the environment. There were many possibilities, yet just like them all, they would eventually be unraveled. Leaving him exposed in an endless game of cat and mouse. Perhaps that was the worst of them all. No matter how much he thought of it, the idea that he had even been stressing about it frustrated him more than anything. After all-- Theo had simply wished to be free.
