By the time Esialeth wandered down into the main guild hall, it was almost noon. She silently cursed herself for waking up so late, but she was up late unpacking, anyway. Still dressed in her pajamas, she grabbed some food and walked up to Seth, who was already awake and exfoliated. Or maybe his skin was just like that. She remembered something of the sort from his letters.

"Hey. I'm getting my passport today. You should come with," she said brashly. Never let it be said that Esialeth was a morning person.

Not waiting for Seth's response, she turned back and went to go change. Boots because people would be stepping on her feet, and a simple yet elegant dress that would give off an air of authority. Said authority would let her cut in line if need be. Of couse, she could ask Seth to use his...presuasive abilities, but you know how it is. She wanted to have some fun for herself.

The sun began to rise over the city of Rose Garden. The early morning, late night partying, night-life of the city began to die down. Fluffy, voluminous clouds waft over the horizon, painted with a wonderful plethora of pinks, yellows, and purples. He was already up, unlike his friend, barhopping with a few friends. The night was... messy. He got hopelessly drunk, so much so that he’s still a little bit drunk. Don’t even worry about the party drugs. It had been awhile since he had been in the city and he indulged a little bit too much. He hadn’t slept but whatever he was on was certainly keeping him awake. He still looks cute though. Must be his new moisturizer.

He somehow ended up in the guild hall, trying to avoid his oncoming hangover by drinking copious amounts of water. He had just downed his first pitcher when Esialeth came in and said, something... Passport? He thought he already has one... No, it expired. He should go get a new one... He roughly combed his hand through his hair, which was down, and pulled—ow, he just pulled out a hair—and put it into a bun. Which was messy. He was still wearing his party clothes, a white mesh ‘sweater’ over a skin-tight mid-toned blue sports undershirt. And a pair of jeans so ripped that if he passed by a doorknob too confidently, they would catch probably be ripped apart. It was hot, so he dressed hot. He cupped his forehead and slid out from the table he was sitting at. Barely waiting for her to change, he starts to walk onto the street hopefully trailed by Esialeth. Where were the handing out the passports? The train station? (288/500)

By the time Esialeth got back to her room to change, she realized her eyes were still crusty and gross from sleep. She sighed. Of course. At least hardly anyone was there to play witness, save for Seth.

She hastily washed her face. Esialeth had stayed up until three last night just to unpack her belongings; her bag was just wide enough that she could stuff just about anything inside. Unfortunately, that also meant that as long as something fit through the top, it was inside. It also explained the shoulder pain. She found at least twenty books, a journal, a pendant, a teddy bear, and...some potted plants? She remembers admiring the skill of the bag maker and fixing up the plants for a while.

...she doesn't remember falling asleep, although she supposed she must have, if she was feeling well-rested now. Perhaps it was the bed, perhaps it was the bath. Or maybe it was relief. Relief at finally finding a stable place to stay, relief at finding sanctum from her family. Hmm. She pushed those thoughts away.

She grinned to herself in the mirror, admiring the black sleeveless dress that showed off her new tattoo. And hid the spot where she burned one off.

Humming a happy tune to herself, she strolled back downstairs to the guild hall.

"Hi, Seth! Hey, wait up! Wait—where are you going? The docks are the other way!"

Seeing his face for the first time that day, she understood.

Although his magic masked most of his tiredness, she could tell that his compplexion seemed grayer than usual, and his movements were stilted, as if he was a marionette. As she got closer, she could detect somethingon his breath—alcohol, which was normal, but—odella? Dear god. That stuff was deadly. And on occasion, passport officials would give drug tests. If he looked like that, the would definitely give drug tests.

Esialeth had no choice but to drag him back to their apartment so she could brew an antidote. And get new clothes.

Confused, he follows Esialeth into her room. Something that would make him sober. But, he didn’t want that... It masks the pain. Ugh. He looks at his hands, which were shaking slightly. It’s fine. Totally fine. No one would notice. Following Esialeth into their temporary residence, a costly suite at the Silver Moon Inn, he falls onto a chaise chair in the corner of the room. He spots a bottle of Jack underneath his bed, which has been made by the wait staff recently. He somehow focused his eyes. Empty. Damn.

He brings his legs up to his chest and hugs them. Esialeth always has nurtured a talent for alchemy and potion-making... needless to say, he did all the cooking, naturally at home in the kitchen, cleaning up after Esialeth’s potent and smelly chemicals to make her potions. He wonders where she even finds the stuff. The room didn’t have a kitchen but she set up a makeshift chemistry station on a table next to a holo-lacrima television. There was a makeshift range made out of a lighter and a spoon attached to an apparatus that held it up. Ironic. (478/500)

Seth collapses on the couch immediately after they arrive back at their suite, almost knocking over a plant she was about to use. Rest in pieces, Seth.

He didn’t look high anymore, just...tired. Esialeth squints. “You’re...depressed again, aren’t you?”

His only response is a groan.

She sighs. “Me too, dude. But you can’t just drink your troubles away. Alcohol doesn’t even produce serotonin. Ugh...stay there. I’ll go make something.”

The next half hour is peppered with the gentle sounds of glass bottles clinking, plants brushing against each other, and light humming. Not a bad environment, if you ignored the fact that she was brewing a poison antidote for her drunk friend.

The quiet is broken when Esialeth tosses Seth two bottles.

“Blue one is for cleansing, green for depression. It won’t cure you, but it’ll make you functional. Now get dressed and let’s go get our pass- no, that’s not dressed. Change out of your hooker clothes and let’s go.”

But it does produce dopamine. The small shots of instant gratification breathe life into him. He thinks about the good time he has partying. Was it even a good time. Regret kicks in. He downs the green potion. Ew. Tastes like bitter apple and rotten cream soda. To each their own. Then the purple potion. Tastes like cough syrup. The aftertaste is minty.

He sighs as the symptoms of his late night pass through his system. He rushes to the bathroom and pees for at least a minute. Detox potions tend to do this. He pulls himself together and steps outside. The sun was high in the sky now. The line was longer than ever, passing by the guild hall even through the docks were a couple blocks away. Wonderful. People were fighting on the street, bolts of magic zipping through the sky. He turns and begins to walk to the front of the line.

Seth doesn't seem to care much for the potions, but Esialeth didn't care much for getting arrested. She didn't have time to make the antidepressant taste good, so that's probably why she heard Seth gagging in the other room. Whatever.

The streets are relatively hectic; the heat of midday combine with the frustration of waiting in line had driven some people to fight. How undignified. Seth sighs in annoyance and tries to drag them to the front of the line.

"What are you doing?" she hisses at him. "Do you want them to start fighting us?" She angles her head towards a spot next to where people are distracted by a fight. Close to the front, but not suspiciously so. "Let's wait there."

She leaves no room for protest as they casually cut in line. They converse casually for while, but she couldn't ignore his little stunt earlier.

"We should both actually get more friends. Other than each other. Then you can, you know, be less depressed. And no, your party friends aren't actually friends." she says with a tone appropriate for remarks about the weather. She takes a couple steps as the line inches forward. "We joined Black Rose for a reason. They're tight. And they have good job prospects. And mages are hot."

He zoned out. This conversation was not for him right now. Without the alcohol and drugs in his system he just felt empty. Not even sad. Just bored. He dug around his pockets for anything. His finger catches on some lint and he pulls it out and toys with it. “You’ve barely even seen them. How would you know,” he turns his head away. The line wasn’t moving. He considered coming back tomorrow or the weekend. As they waited, he zones out of focus, climbing the mountain that is his imagination. Or he is just staring at the cobblestone beneath his. Who knows. But before long, the line shortens and he and Esialeth are a few people away from the front of the line. He lets her take over the conversation. She does seem to like it.

Ugh. As much as she liked to talk, Esialeth could feel Seth losing interest. Reasoning that she could just corner him later, she turns to the passport officer, realizing that they are now at the front of the line. Esialeth: 1, Satan: 0.

Interestingly enough, they did not undergo a drug test, although it was probably because the line was so long and she had forced Seth to wear real clothes.

The process is quick and brutally efficient. The passport officers just seem so done with everything that they're speeding through the process. Either way, Esialeth wasn't complaining.

Soon, she had acquired a passport. The photo wasn't as good as she would have liked, but it never really is. It's almost four in the afternoon now - they really busted their asses doing exactly one thing all day. She grins - she'd never had this kind of freedom before. It was refreshing...unlike the weather. Ugh. She felt like she'd done enough monologuing for the day, though, so she simply power walked back to the inn, Seth following closely behind her. Seemed like with all that monologuing, their traveling was faster.
