How much Nyx is too much Nyx?

She had seen a flyer up somewhere requesting mages to do a job just like this one in Hosenka, but she wasn't welcomed in Hosenka anymore. At least not without pitchforks and bullets. Last time the Kasha had been to that town? She had traveled there with Chaoris for the express purpose of murdering a man named Castiel, in the gods case because he was a coward, in her case because she was hired to stop him from marrying some kids sister. In the end? There had been no wedding, and there had barely been survivors, she also almost burned down the whole town. Going back to casually take a job for the town, probably was not a possibility as she was now a feared entity within that area. Fluffy had no desire to be met with calls to the cops, locked doors and everyone screaming for the fire department. Thus she had not gone to take that mission. Instead? She ended up going to Oshibana to catch some swift moving train to another location.

Of course that was until she saw this, a single flyer that asked for help hanging at the entrance of the small train station centered town. Apparently it was possible for two separate towns with almost nothing in common to have the exact same issue at exactly the same time, well relatively. Fluffy had to stare at the poster for several moments, not entirely sure she was seeing nor reading it properly. However, the 'job request' did indeed ask for some foreign mage to attempt clearing their scavenger hunt in exactly five hours, because they needed it to work for a festival being held soon. What were the chances of that? This was one incredibly big happen chance, one she really did not believe. "Chaoris what the fuck is this shit." she grumbled it under her breath, using the males name as he was the god she worshiped not some nameless god who was too cowardly to show themselves to her or save her when she had needed it.

Well it seemed she would be looking for wherever the town center was to take this job, likely next to the train station.

Life was grand! Everything stood in such vivid colors and practically oozed euphoria! Greends and browns and blues and a myriad of other bits of rainbow decorating in between! It caused the blond woman to hum under her breath, wishing a proper orchestra could convey the feeling of the scene for her. Any moment the villagers – in a proper setting – would’ve burst into some musical number and perhaps she could squeeze her way into it somehow if not at least enjoy it on the sidelines. Deciding whether or not she should be in the midst, or a mere viewer escaped the young woman.

The feelings forced a memory of just that morning before she’d ridden the train to this silly place, the exuberant mage declaring her “brother” should provide music for her journeys. Call the girl crazy if you liked, Nyx couldn’t shake the feeling that it’d have been fun for the man to follow behind with one of his instruments and provide the very music she craved in that moment. That 100-watt smile hadn’t faltered in the slightest when he’d simply raised an eyebrow, returned his attention to some paperwork, and simply stated, ”No.” Hell, Faeral even refused to lend her his personal assistant, the snowy haired woman standing stoically at his side and ready for an order should one come.

It seemed so unfair and a bit silly to stay inside on such a fantabulous day that Nyx could only snort at the thought of the pair, cooped up like that. She opted to ignore the warning he’d given before on how this feeling should “pass in due time.” Something about the forced reincarnation method causing a bit of a euphoric rush? She almost laughed at the silly feelings of fear and dread her previous persona experienced before the change: if only Rohma knew the sheer giddiness and freedom she’d feel soon after!

Almost laughed had it not been for a notice plastered on some noticeboard outside a quasi-important looking building. Purple eyes scanned merely the important words, “Scavenger Hunt,” and “Inquire Inside” before dashing through those doors – anything in the way of them on the other side be damned! A scavenger hunt sounded absolutely perfect on such a lovely day as this!

Life was dead. Ever since the day she had met Izayuki and died in the arms of her comrade Mura, than consumed the body of another comrade in a ravenous hunger upon awaking, life was dead. However, the same way rainbows came after every storm, she had to keep on living among the happy humming of the naive and blissful. See, this was what she was talking about, some girl was prancing down the street oozing daisies and sunshine, humming some happy tune as if this was some musical. Well the real world did not work that way, it tore at someone until they broke and someone new was left in their place! Maybe she could rip this girls throat out and teach her that fact. Nah, she was not the bringer of bad fates, she was an Honorable worshiper of choaris, which by the way she damn well prayed he had not read her mind just than.

Fluffy watched as the musical hurricane rushed through the doors and realized if she was going to take this job than she would have to work with some hippie. Crimson optics blinked in exasperation, but she chose to go in anyways. Once the feline was inside, she swiftly aimed to hop onto the blondes shoulder in order to than hop onto the counter before she could reach it, because the Kasha would be damned if she was taking orders from something that naive. "Hello, I heard you have a scavenger hunt in need of testing." clearly her voice startled the clerk and if she was smart, she would not have spoken in front of someone so giddy. Most people who were super happy go lucky? Also had a thing for magical talking animals. Fluffy so often forgot that she was still an abomination sometimes because she felt so natural when she got to run with her god and slaughter anything that refused to give way in the name of honor, most times.

"You're a talking cat." the clerk now seemed to not be amused and looked at the girl behind her, as if the blonde was somehow causing this. How dare he credit her to anyone besides herself! "Eyes here prick, I spoke first, you talk to me." in a whirl of swift flame she was suddenly a six foot saber toothed feline standing in front of the counter, causing him to stumble back shivering. "I'm not a talking cat, I'm a demon cat species known as Kasha." he may not know what she was, but he seemed to be taking her more seriously now. Anyone who knew a thing about Kasha's would be aware they wielded powerful underworld flames, and ate the corpses of the dead in order to send souls to the underworld they drew their fire from.

The only remaining question from the clerk after seeing a six foot tall cat glowering down at him? "Will you two be preforming the test hunt together?" the feline glanced behind her at the glowing golden bulb. "Her choice really, get a free ride if ya do." she just wanted to be the one in charge because damn she would not be able to listen to commands from someone so dim witted that clearly thought the world was sunshine and rainbows.

The sounds of a light scream mixed with “oof!” as some poor secretary went flying aside went completely ignored, Nyx far too in the moment to care about petty things like other people. A scavenger hunt sounded marvelous! Stupendous even! At least she hoped it lived up to her expectations, the girl’s mood soaring higher than any kite and likely any bird right at this moment. It would be far too cruel a fate to have it all dashed by not having her every expectation met – and hopefully exceeded.

A small weight pushed on her shoulder, the excited smile dropping in favor of confusion as eyes watched a small feline leap onto the desk. It failed to dampen her mood, merely place a temporary pause as it happened to speak about the very same inquiry. In fact, the poor creature (unintentionally) only managed to boost Nyx’s mood exponentially! Faeral may have denied her the company of Amarylis in any of the shapeshifter’s myriad of forms, but t’would seem she wouldn’t spend the day entirely alone as the blond woman initially believed! How fortuitous! The matter-of-fact and potentially brusque tone thusly went ignored as Nyx imagined all sorts of adventures – none of which had anything to do with the original scavenger hunt.

For whatever reason the clerk deigned to stare at Nyx as if she might explain the talking feline phenomenon away. Instead of providing any sort of answer – where would the fun be in that? – the girl opted to shrug. Hell the mage outright refused to spoil the surprise even for herself! She needn’t poke her eyes into every little mystery like her previous, wary incarnation. Surprises were a spice of life and once the creature expanded in size, well, Nyx surely felt rewarded for her good behavior! Maybe, if she were lucky, and perhaps a good girl, the thing might be so nice as to offer a ride? One could only hope when there were so many things to be experienced in this newly found life! Besides her earlier sentiment became rewarded as the beast declared itself a demon cat species known as a “Kasha.”

’Note to self: research “Kasha” later. Maybe other demons too…for funsies.’

”YES!” came the blond’s quick and joy-filled reply. Who knew she’d be rewarded so much so soon?! For all she cared they could be riding into the eye of Hell itself and she’d just view it as a grand adventure, especially from the back of such a beautiful beast…demon? Was “beast” considered insulting to them? Maybe she’d ask later, if she remembered amidst her excitement. ”Just give us the list of items and we’ll be outchorhair!” The last word came out a bit fast and slurred together, the girl reaching out for the paper. It seemed only prudent having opposable thumbs and all, and if the feline seemed a bit insistent on being in charge, well then Nyx would endeavor to at least be a worthy sidekick.

Though one look at the list spurred a few misgivings in her. It almost seemed a bit…childlike? The list sounded comprised more of little toys from a bell to a toy soldier, and ending with something referred to as “The Golden Apple.” Perhaps it ended on a snack? The page did seem to mention something of an age preference of 5-10 years old…but they could’ve made this a bit more interesting in her opinion. ’Well…hopefully they’re stashed in more interesting places. I’ll be sorely disappointed if we can’t find these baubles in five hours or…less.’ Some of the enthusiasm began to dwindle, the girl huffing as the man seemed fit to apologize, his explanation of wanting to make sure it wasn’t too hard or easy for the children flitting through one ear and hitting the carpet out the other.

”I guess we’ll start with a bell…shouldn’t be hard. There were plenty of shops around here. We can just take one of their’s…and then we can see about the mini-knight and mini-dragon thereafter…”

And of course the other girl eagerly took the offer to hitch a ride. Honestly though, it was shocking, most people seemed indifferent to mounting her, but this girl was like a child with a lollipop. Fluffy was slightly annoyed the blonde had taken the list of items, but at the moment it was of little consequence, since the hippie was sitting atop her, she was still in direct control of wherever they went looking for these things even if she did not possess the list. Plus she did indeed lack thumbs, so she would have torn a hole in the paper to hold it with her fang's, it was indeed best the other girl grabbed it. Sometimes she really did miss being something of a humanoid nature, if only for the gift from evolution called hands and the neat thumbs humans had. Of course if she was still telekinetic it would be no issue, but she wasn't, at least to her knowledge.

"Yeah this seems to be a child's game, its likely just a collection of stores and such for little kids to run around." which meant this would be beyond easy for more intelligent beings like the two of them, especially since when she turned the corner, the bell shop was right there, and she could make out a toy shop a few stores down. "Yeeeeah, too hard? I think their problem is actually too easy, why don't we fix it for them." little did she know that she may like the other girls idea of fixing it.

Every roam over the list proved her bestial companion more and more correct: it was basically a shop promotion. The kids would have to figure out which of the stores on the main couple of streets might bear the item and visit them – it might even come with some sort of stamp book for the children – and then move onto the next one where they’d receive some cheaply made item while able to eye the better made items and entice them back to the shop later.

How.

They.

These people went and took a fun game, and made it…unbearably stupid! Something that could’ve been fun for all ages turned into a simple advertisement for their “fine local products” and what other garbage! Why, the girl had half a mind to march home and demand Faeral somehow ruin their businesses! Teach them to fool her! However that wouldn’t do, not ultimately, because she couldn’t rely on him all the time. Sometimes sure, especially if it sounded more fun, but Nyx needed to channel some of the more responsible nature of her counterpart. She needed to problem solve for herself! Her companion was right: they needed to fix this.

”All right…yeah…we’ll “fix this” for them,” some of earlier’s enthusiasm started returning where moments before she’d all but buried her face in the fur of her new, not-so-little friend, ”Though I think we’ll still gather these little objects for them. I mean might as well get the job done…but – and hear me out – I say we hide them again. In better places. Harder places. Ones they might not expect. Then it’ll be their turn to find them!”

Oh how ridiculously easy it’d be to reconfigure the inner workings of them! What should she have them do though? What words would she replace their mundane “coding” with? Infinite possibilities lay before her, making the decision a little agonizing as they collected one object after another, Nyx mumbling under her breath about snakes, weather, and ever-expanding watermelons.

”I’ve got it!” she burst after grabbing the last object, ”It’s so easy too: if this is so boring it’s time to light things up! Fireworks! Big, loud, explosive fireworks! Ooooh I could even work in a variety of shapes and figures too! Maybe work in a bit of a lava fall…waterfall too! Oh this is gonna be so great, I leave the locations up to you my furry friend! I gotta concentrate on fixing these mundane things, just make sure they have to work for it!” The woman giggled excitedly, all too eager already to see the show she’d put on for these silly villagers. Granted her definition of fireworks might’ve differed a bit from the everyday citizen, but there needed to be a sense of excitement and urgency when the townsfolk went looking for these things!

Nyx’s eyes gained a glow, looking as if the very galaxy existed in them, though at truly great magnifications one might’ve been able to make out arcane symbols: a language she’d discovered many, many lifetimes ago. Fingers started tracing such things in the air over each object as she decided on blast volume, design, colors, and of course a much more limited time than five hours. ”How long do you suppose I should set them for? I don’t want things over too soon…but I really don’t want them to drag it on like they expect this silly event too…guess they were figuring in a lunch amidst the scavenger hunt. Who has time for a meal during fun anyways?!”
