*Skip to the asterisk if you already are brushed up on all your Simon the Phoenix lore and only care about the never previously released details.

Approximately 14 years ago a nameless boy, later to be known as Simon, would be born to a widowed mother who died during child birth. Without anyone in the world to care for the child he became the responsibility of the community he was born into, and was raised collectively by them. This was done poorly. By age 4 the still nameless child had a reputation for stealing food, and for being more trouble than he was worth was cast out into the world: presumably to be eaten by wolves.

Well if wolves did end up eating him, no one would be reading this. No rather he found shelter in a great volcano a ways from his village. A great cave offered him the promise of shelter and safety, instead it gave him significance. For he had chosen to dwell in the layer of the great metal demon Azatium. The demon found the small child hiding in his cave, and surprisingly enough adopted the boy. However his intentions were far more malicious in nature. The demon, famed for creating weapons in the heart of the great volcano, forged the boy into a weapon of his own design: a demon slayer to be used to wage battle against Azatium's enemies. It was the demon who gave him the name Simon, but it's significance is unknown. Simon would be forged into the metal demon slayer for two years before two unlikely heroes appeared. A trickster a master of light and illusions, and a young hero who was swift as the wind came to the volcano to do battle with Azatium(who had been doing general bad demon things around Ca-Elum). However upon realizing the demon had taken in a child, and realizing they were far too weak to defeat Azatium, they settled for rescuing Simon.

Realizing the intention of the child-weapon they resolved to keep Simon as far away from Azatium as possible, going so far as sending him away to Fiore. However this would be rather tricky as Azatium in weaponizing Simon imbued in him a psychic link that let him influence Simon and those around him. The trickster used his light magic to trap the demon slaying magic of Simon into a magical mirror, that the boy would carry with him. He was also given a tiny box by the hero to be opened under a condition where he "found himself powerless." Simon was a little miffed about the entire turn of events as he quite liked his magic powers and home in the volcano. But several cakes later changed his mind. The young hero taught Simon the ways of God Leg magic as a means of evading the demon should Azatium ever come for him. He was left in the care of a well meaning noble man from Era, and so the two heroes returned to Ca-Elum to consider their quest against Azatium. The noble man was a good man who intended to raise Simon well and into a good citizen of Fiore, however Azatium was not to have any of that. He used his connection to Simon to magically corrupt the mind of the noble man and after 5 years(Simon now being 11) ran away from home as the noble man grew more and more cruel. Simon would end up taking shelter in Fairy Tail and his adventures as a mage would begin.

Simon would then proceed to not do much for a year or so as he served as a low-tier mage of Fairy Tail. His adventures would really kick into gear around the Daybreak events where Savage Skull and Tartarus launched a joint attack on Magnolia Town. Simon would be forced to do battle with the powerful ice demon slayer Faust, and in the battle his mirror was destroyed restoring Simon as the metallic demon slayer. The battle ended in a loss to Simon but that was hardly the significant part. With the battle being widely reported on by the news, the old corrupted noble man was able to track down Simon and recapture him. He was dragged back to Era where the noble was preparing a trip to Ca-Elum, still under the magical influence of Azatium, however fate has other plans as there were bigger fish in the world then Azatium. To be more precise that fish was Acnologia who attacked Era in the event that would come to be known as the End To An Era, the destruction lead to the noble man dying and Simon being freed once again. Simon aided in the evacuation of Era during the attack and returned to Fairy Tail, but things were far from over.

Simon determined that he had been running from the Azatium business for too long and resolved to return to Ca-Elum of his own volition. He may or may not have been magically influenced to do so by Azatium's psychic link. Upon returning to his homeland for the first time in 5 years Simon confronted Azatium. Returning to the cave at the heart of Ca-Elum's great volcano he discovered the remains of the trickster and deduced that him and the hero had given their lives in battle with Azatium. Azatium then appeared and attempted to re-capture Simon, upon realizing the truth of the situation Simon fled taking with him a relic he found in the cave. His god leg magic proved swift enough to enable his escape but his power was no where near enough to do battle with his demonic father. Now aware that his metallic demon slayer augmentations were being used to manipulate him he resolved to free himself of the magic and by extension Azatium's control. This quest and the relic he found would lead him to discover the legend of The Phoenix. The celestial god was regarded among the most powerful magical entities in Fiore and its flames were said to be purify it in nature. The relic he had stolen was meant to siphon off it's power, Simon figured that if Azatium had created a relic to steal the Phoenix's power the demon must have considered the legendary bird greater than himself. Simon would eventually hunt down the creature and beg it to cleanse him of the demonic magic he possessed. The Phoenix's retort was to destroy him.

That would've been where Simon's story ended, except the relic he acquired had absorbed the magic of the Phoenix and its resurrection magic revived Simon, now with command of the legendary bird's power for himself. Free from Azatium Simon worked to hone his new found power so that he may eventually return to Ca-Elum to finally save the land from Azatium. It was this power that lead Simon to climbs the ranks of mage hood, become known as The Phoenix, become one of the original Rising Stars and later become history's youngest Wizard Saint. As a Wizard Saint he found himself on many wild adventures and accomplished some of his greatest exploits. Including eventually becoming the guild master of Fairy Tail by age 13. But his string of exploits and adventures would end with the attack of the Priory of the Wyrm. Defending his city of Magnolia he was felled by the Dragon Knight Lancelot. The Knight had the particular power of weaponizing anything he touched and was able to exploit the fact that Simon's power was stolen and stole it from in turn: nearly killing Simon with his own Phoenix Fire. The Flash God Shuhei would eventually intervene and save Simon but the damage was done: Simon's powers were gone. It was at this time he finally realized this was the intended time to open the box he had been given years ago. Inside was a tiny glass rectangle, that Simon almost instantly broke on accident.

Ironically that was exactly what was intended to happen.

Breaking the glass unleashed it's magic and threw Simon back in time 7 years. If you're paying attention to the time line this was the year he was rescued from Ca-Elum. Realizing that he was now a young mage with super speed magic and no other power, who knew about Azatium, on the year that was he was rescued, Simon developed a wild theory. In order to avoid messing with the time line as he would be tempted to do if he remained in Fiore, he returned to Ca-Elum. Where he met the past version of the trickster and learned that he had been the young hero who had saved himself all those years ago. It is a boot strap paradox, historians are aware and still trying to figure out how that works.

So everything that was described before happened, but we're going to refocus on the part where the trickster and older Simon returned to Ca-Elum. Simon knew that now without the Phoenix Fire he wouldn't be able to defeat Azatium, also the part where he had would find the trickster's corpse in the past/future was a pretty bad sign of how this was going to go. He developed an elaborate plan with the help of the local master smith's of Ca-Elum to devise a trap to contain Azatium. The elaborate trap revolved around an enchanted sword that would seal in a magical cage whatever it stabbed. This sword was Vorpal and was hand forged by Simon with the guidance of several master smiths. However one of the key components of the trap would be required to be made of a metal only found in the great volcano, Simon and the trickster braved the volcano to retrieve the metal but would be caught by Azatium. The trickster would die here allowing Simon to escape, fulfilling the information Simon had would gain when he had would find his body in the past/future. But the metal was recovered, so it was not a sacrifice in vain. It would take Simon a very long time to perfect Vorpal, and while he was working on it learned a form of lava magic he would call "Great Eruption," he figured it would help while fighting in a volcano. So eventually his past self came and went from Ca-Elum to stela the phoenix relic, this was the end of Simon's future knowledge of Ca-Elum fulfilled and he was finally free to act in ways that may change the future.

With Vorpal in hand and with his mastery of Great Eruption he finally faced Azatium in his volcano fortress. Even with his Great Eruption magic Simon was no match for Azatium, but he didn't need to be an even match for him when all it took was one measily stab from Vorpal to permanently trap Azatium in a magical cage. At this time Simon still had two years before his past self would be thrown into the past, so he chose to wait out the two years in Ca-Elum to prevent a time paradox or anything weird like that. He took up residence in Azatium's lair, using the great volcano as his forge he worked to create a weapon to permanently slay Azatium. Keeping him sealed with Vorpal was all well and good but it was only a temporary matter as Simon was convinced Azatium would somehow eventually free himself. So he worked to further strengthen his Great Eruption magic and created increasingly elaborate weapons to try and circumvent Azatium's immortality but after two years still made no progress. Home-sick and concerned for the fate of Fairy Tail he finally returned to Fiore. He had warned the locals what would happen if Vorpal was pulled free from the cage, figuring that'd be enough to deter someone from trying.

    *
So Simon made his final trip to Fiore where upon discovering that Fairy Tail had become a dark guild he joined the Garou Knights to hunt down the dark guild and take down "whatever dark force was controlling them," as he was convinced they were being mind controlled or something of the sort. However his time with the Garou Knights was short and he quickly joined up with Infinity Hydra to complete his quest to redeem Fairy Tail. But before he could properly try a magic alarm he had placed on Azatium's cave alerted him that someone had entered the cave. Understanding the potential danger Simon fled Infinity Hydra and Fiore without a word. He returned to the cave to check on the seal and was ambushed by Azatium who had been freed by some idiot who thought pulling the sword from the cage would make him a hero or something stupid like that. Vorpal had been broken by Azatium so Simon was alone in doing battle with the demon. It took all of Simon's anti-demons weapon and power to chase away the demon, who escaped the cave and fled to some unknown corner of Earthland.

Faced with an unwinnable scenario Simon had to make some hard choices. He had to chase after Azatium but he found it far too likely and far too dangerous a possibility that Azatium would return to his Ca-Elum seeking revenge. So Simon resolved to remain in his home country to defend it and work to create a new trap for Azatium. In the mean time he repaired Vorpal, enhancing and upgrading him into the form he is known as now and sent him to Fiore to handle his obligations there and to track down Azatium. Since then Simon has gathered the incredibly few mages of Ca-Elum(there are so few that they make up less than 1% of the population) into the only mage guild in the country, Iron Cage. The guild is united in helping the defense of Ca-Elum from all threats. Meanwhile he is actively working in his forge in the great volcano to create weapons for the defense of Ca-Elum and the final destruction of Azatium. Rapidly becoming a famed magic black smith and an important member of the Ca-Elum community as the guild master of their only mage guild it is hard to say if he'll even return to Fiore once the Azatium crisis ends...

Thus are the events as would be recounted by Vorpal if inquired about his origins.
