Job Title: A Wizard's Grace
Rank: D-Ranked Wizard (Solo Only)
Player Requirements: Thread must be 20 posts long. 200 Words per post. May only be completed ONCE by the character attempting the Job.
Job Requirements: Must defeat at least 5 groups of Plant Demons! Without using magic that can damage the crops and farms of Beanstalk Village! If the Boss is rolled; the curse on the crops will disappear; but you now have to face off against the Dark Wizard who cursed them in the first place!
Job Location: Beanstalk Village
Job Description: Beanstalk Village; nestled in the most northern forests of Fiore alongside the Clover River. This village is responsible for a good bit of Fiore's farm and produce production alongside River Village, and Peace Village. Everything from vegetables, too beef, too steak, too pork can come from here.
However; all crops in the village; have whithered and grown thorns. Quite strange no? They also glow with a strange light; as if some kind of bad magics are at work; holding the crops into this foul state.
There aren't any wizards in the village; so they're completely baffled how entire crop fields of wheat, corn, and tomatoes could just sprout black thorns, wither, and glow. It's very, very, VERY; strange to them.
However; when you arrive; the cursed plants react to your magic power; revealing to the villagers the source of the problem. Plant Demons; feeding off of their crops.
The Plant Demons appear; popping up in waves. They look quite cute; each Plant Demon either has a head and body made up of whatever vegetable it is; with thin white legs and arms; and glowing red eyes with a mouth that they love to use to eat real crops; and too trash talk.
They will pop out of the ground randomly when they sense Magic Power for the first time in Beanstalk Village; and attack. The curse will wear off when you dispose of the Plant Demons.
Enemies:
Weak: Tomato Plant Demon x10 (D-Ranked, these Demons are real trash talkers; nothing is off limits to them. With a body like a giant tomato. Despite their tough talk; they're very weak and go down in just two hits of D-Ranked damage each; they will try to belly flop and body slam their opponents; their special technique is 'Tomato Juice Cannon'; which blasts their opponent with a stream of ketchup from their mouth; careful it packs a punch and deals D-Ranked damage and knockback that will lift you off your feet if hit.)
Normal: Corn Plant Demon x5 (D-Ranked, these Demons have a body like a giant corn cob. They don't talk tough; but think themselves very stylish. They will attempt to body flop, and body ram opponents much like the Tomato Plant Demons. Their special technique is 'Corn Corn Cannon' in which they exhale a stream of Corn, flying at bullet speed. They hurt like hell; equivalent to almost having baseballs thrown at you. Enough of them will K.O even tough wizards. This deals C-Ranked damage if hit. The Corn Plant Demons go down in 3 hits of D-Ranked damage each.)
Strong: Broccolli Plant Demon x10 (C-Ranked, these demons have a body like broccolli with glowing red eyes. They are very fast; and will charge opponents quickly with shoulder rams, and punches. Their special technique is 'Broccolli Swat'; in which they cock their body back like a gigantic fly swatter, and slam their Broccolli heads down on their opponent in a gigantic smash. This deals C-Ranked damage, and can K.O quite easily. If caught off guard you will be slow to move around and be sore for the next post. The Broccolli Plant Demons go down in 5 hits of D-Ranked damage each.)
Boss: Dark Wizard (The one who put the curse on the entire Farmlands of Beanstalk Village; this guy is not to be trifled with. He is an middle aged man with an extremely impressive beard; wearing dark robes. He uses Curse Magic. Once per turn; he will try to make one of your limbs like jelly, as well as cause you to see and hear things that aren't there. His Curse spells can do everything from make you blind, make you not able to hear, paralyze one limb, make you not be able to speak, and the ability to make your own spells backfire on you. If you roll a 'Failed Block'; you will be Cursed with one of these effects, takes 15 hits of D-Ranked damage to bring this guy down.)
Reward: 10,000 Jewels + 2 Extra D ranks exp(added after any bonus calculation)

Re: A Hero's Grace
Sigurd plodded along the dirt road, eventually coming to a region where the trees had been cleared. Through his helmet, he could smell baking bread. What a nice little village, he thought to himself, It's a shame that they've been having trouble.
Beanstalk Village, the delightful little area Sigurd had arrived at, had been having issues with their crop recently. Considering that their economy was mostly restricted to their own community, the continuation of such a problem would have caused, likely, massive instances of food shortages. However, based on keen observation, the villagers had noticed that this problem was most likely not the case of any natural events. The odd mutations of the dying crop had indicated some sort of magical influence over the fields, and as such the villagers had all come together and sent out a request for help from a mage.
Sigurd could not consider himself an expert in botany, but he did know some deal about plants, thanks to his well-rounded education as a noble. As such, he figured that this was the perfect instance for him to get involved with. After all, it was merely a curse placed over crops, how difficult could the job possibly be?

Re: A Hero's Grace
Sigurd spotted a large house in the middle of the village clearing. Assuming it must be the residence of whoever governed Beanstalk Village, he began making his way towards the large village, when he was interrupted by a piercing shriek.
"AHHHHH!"
Sigurd turned to see a woman clasping her mouth with her hands. At her feet was a dropped basket of freshly baked breads, no doubt what he had smelled when he had first came into the village. Of course. There were times when Sigurd forgot exactly how he looked when he was in his full Darknight attire. He sighed, as the woman continued screaming.
"There's a brigand! Help! Someone help!" she shouted, causing a bustle in some of the other houses. The doors flung open, and a dozen or so grown men and women brandishing simple weapons emerged, pointing their pitchforks and knives at Sigurd. Eventually, an older man emerged from the big house. His white hair was wispy and thin, and his beard would have reached his stomach, had he been standing up straight. The man had a strong hunch to his back, and supported himself with an oak staff, which was about a foot taller than he stood.
Sigurd raised his arms in surrender, "I believe there's been some kind of misunderstanding."
The old man shook his head back and forth, "Darknight?" Sigurd nodded in response. "In that case, everyone, put away your poking sticks," the villagers looked around in confusion as he beckoned the supposed criminal inside, "this nice man is going to help us with our crop problem."

Re: A Hero's Grace
It wasn't long before the older man was talking to Sigurd about the situation over a cup of tea. Originally, the old man was going to have his granddaughter brew it, but Sigurd insisted on brewing them all tea himself. He had searched through the village chief's cabinet of leaves and herbs. He meticulously and carefully crafted a blend, and steeped it himself, keeping time as precisely as he could without a lacrima timer. He mixed in sugar, and brought out the tray. Finally, the old man had took a sip.
The old man smiled, "What a delicious brew of tea, where did such an imposing man as yourself learn how to craft such a beverage?"
Sigurd gave him a shrug, "One picks up these things when he travels." He removed the bottom jaw of his helmet, and took a sip of his craft.
The granddaughter then put her lips to her own cup, nervously sipping as she watched Sigurd carefully, and then blushing when she realized it was an honest, delicious cup of tea.
Sigurd paid more attention to the chief, however, "So, there are no mages in this village?"
"Not a single one. None of us know what we can do about this plague? Do you have any ideas?"
"Nothing specific, but perhaps if I take a closer look I can figure something out. Would you mind showing me to the field?"

Re: A Hero's Grace
Sigurd was taken out of the chief's house, and taken to a wide field, filled with wilting vines coated in thorns. Indeed, the field was in quite dire shape. The glow that all of the dying plants were giving off indeed made Sigurd suspect that there was some sort of magical force behind them.
The granddaughter gave Sigurd a concerned look, "So, Mr. Mage, what are you thinking?"
The man shook his head, "First of all, I'm no mage. My powers are natural, I'm a superhero." Such an odd phrase would have normally gotten an inquisitive glance from the woman who Sigurd was speaking to, but from such an imposing figure, she felt her cheeks go red, and the hair on her arms stand stiff. She nodded in apologetic agreement.
"But your diagnosis, Darknight?" asked her grandfather.
He motioned as if he were scratching his chin, despite the presence of his armor, "It definitely looks like there's some magical influence. The only thing I can't tell is if there is some epicenter that's causing all of it, or if it's a disease that's spreading. Both are amenable issues, but an epicenter would be a considerably easier fix." As he finished, he heard something whistle through the air, jolting, he pushed the chief and his granddaughter out of the way, and felt a glancing force over his back. Looking up, he saw five... corn demons? Whatever they were, they were certainly threats. He motioned towards the village, "You two, head back, I'll take care of this." Drawing his sword, he began running towards the corn creatures, as the granddaughter supported her grandfather and hastily as she could, made her way back to the village proper.

Re: A Hero's Grace
Desperately reacting to the situation, Sigurd swung wildly with his sword, only successfully connecting with his opponent once he had been dragged close enough. At first, he was ashamed to have been caught off guard, but then he realized he had just learned two things:
The corn demons were not intelligent, at least as opponents, and primarily were fighting him based on instincts, not being able to effectively react to any change in strategy. This gave Sigurd a significant advantage when fighting them.
Also, if he defeated them, they turned into normal crops, meaning that the village could be fed.
Reinvigorated, Sigurd lashed out with his blade, slicing two corn crops in half, his blade almost sparking with electrical excitement. He realized that this action had left his left side open, and saw one corn monster begin firing corn pellets at him. He had already known that would be it's strategy, however, and ducked under the fire, thrusting Gligamesh into the corn monster and swiping upwards. Finally, he stood opposite a final corn monster, which looked around, realizing it was the final remaining threat. It first attempted to run away, but Sigurd moved sooner, and it was slain as well. Breathing a sigh of relief, Sigurd began sheathing his weapon. At least, until the ground began to rumble.

Re: A Hero's Grace
A single corn monster now rose out of the ground. Sigurd swung his sword in a flourish to demonstrate that he meant business. However, as he did so, the corn fired a blast of its kernels. Sigurd just barely managed to move out of the way, however, a vine was waiting for him to the side, and he tripped over the green trap, falling onto the soil. As he got up, he saw several vines coming towards him at fast speeds, Raising his blade, he hoped to catch them on the side of his sword, but instead, they swerved around it and wrapped around his arms and legs.
Damnit, these plants can learn? Sigurd thought, as he struggled against the vines. As he was fighting the first corn, who was progressing towards him, a second one began surfacing from the soil. This could end very, very poorly for me if I'm not careful. When are these things going to stop coming?
As he thought that, a third corn monster began rising out of the ground. Sigurd sighed, and quickly whipped his shoulder away from the vines, splitting the corn monster in half with a mighty swing. He turned to face the monster's comrades.

Re: A Hero's Grace
As he turned, he felt the world begin to shift around him, as if a terraforming spell had been cast. He was suddenly surrounded by a thick mist. Everything around him was clouded, and Sigurd began to feel an intense pressure forming in his stomach. Looking ahead, he could make out a single figure in the mist. It was... could it be... no, there's no way. Sigurd began to grip Gilgamesh with such force, he felt like he was going to burst a vein in his hand. But the face ahead of him suddenly wiped away any pain that he had in his body. All at once, every sensation and emotion he had in his body had been converted to but one feeling. In the back of his mind he could tell that this was simply an illusion, but regardless, he could not help but react so strongly to this vision, fake or not. He could feel his teeth grating against each other, and his bloodlust was suddenly heightened. It was as if he returned to some feral, primal state, after having seen the person who now stood in front of him. The blonde hair, the royal dress, the smug expression... everything was all too familiar... and all to similar to himself. He raised his sword, and began speaking to the illusory man. "Victor..."

Re: A Hero's Grace
Sigurd began to gather his magical energy around him... or at least attempt to. No matter what he tried, it seemed that there was something jamming his ability to use any form of his magic. It was even clouding his memory to the point that he couldn't recall the image of any of his heroes. The result of this was that Sigurd was left only with his own melee skills to protect him. Speaking of protection, he noted that his helmet had disappeared. All of this together gave him some insight into what was going on. They were currently in a plane outside of time and space, caused by some illusory distortion magic being controlled by Victor. The question was, why had he bought his brother here? They hadn't made any attempt to contact each other since the destruction of the family, and Sigurd simply couldn't understand why the two of them were now in front of one another.
"Hello Maxwe---"
"It's Sigurd now. Please refrain from calling me by that old name," the older brother insisted.
Victor smirked, "Or else what? You must be aware we can't hurt each other on this plane." The smugness in his statement caused Sigurd to start grating his teeth.

Re: A Hero's Grace
His younger brother wasn't quite as tall as him, but had longer hair. Though attractiveness was subjective, Victor certainly had more narrow, calculating features, and could be considered more attractive. It wasn't possible to tell this from looking at the two, but Victor had several things over his brother aside from that. He tended to be more book-smart, which given Sigurd's already hi intelligence, meant that Victor had to have been amazingly smart. Aside from that, Victor was the chosen heir to be the head of the family which meant that his magic was stronger than Sigurd's. Not only that, but Victor could technically use Sigurd's stories as part of his Fantasy Summon. It wasn't like him to hold a grudge though, these minor points of contention were not of any concern to the older brother in the long run. Instead he had quite a very good reason to hate his younger brother. "How dare you come to me? The last time I saw you, our family blood was on your blade. Now what? What is this place? Why have you come to talk to me? Give me answers now, brother, or I will make sure to hunt you down and make you pay."

Re: A Hero's Grace
"Now now brother, I am not here to make you angry. I'll save that for later. Soon actually. I've made a decision, my dear Maxwell. I'm ready to come back to the public eye. It's time that the world remembers exactly why they used to fear the name Chevalier."
At that he was interrupted by Sigurd, "Fear is not the right word brother. Our family was respected. You may have been the one to inherit the name, but I was the one who was taught more about our history. The history that ended the night you chose to destroy our familial ties. the night you decided your pride was more important than the lives of father or---"
Victor lost his smirk and snapped back at his older brother, "You don't understand what happened that night. I don't think you ever will. Father deserved to die. This world is a terrible place. I've been watching you Maxwell. I've seen you try and become a hero. I understand you want to become as the figures in those dumbass novels you read. You've really fallen short of what I had expected, brother. Pathetic."
Sigurd clenched his left hand, "Heroism is a noble pursuit. Can I ask what it is that's driving you?"

Re: A Hero's Grace
Victor laughed heartily, "You will see.."
As he spoke, the world began to come back into focus. "Victor... Victor... Victor!" Sigurd shouted, but it was too late. He had been left without the answers he was seeking. All he knew was that his brother would apparently enter public view again soon, which seemed to be only bad news. His mental state seemed to have worsened since those 5 years ago when they had last seen each other. Sigurd was still thinking about that when he remembered the corn demons. He quickly swung his sword, intercepting a vine that one of the demons had sent his way.
This is bad, he thought to himself, trying to dodge the onslaught of attacks while shaking his cloudy mind. He was aware the only way he would be able to keep up this battle is if he summoned one of his heroes, but the illusion had taken its toll on him, and he wasn't able to collect enough focus to be able to do such a thing. Out of pure luck and natural reaction, it seemed that he had been able to take out two more corn demons from this new group, but that still left 2... and... oh no... the ground was shaking once again.

Re: A Hero's Grace
As the ground began to stir, Sigurd was determined to finish off the remaining two corn demons in that moment, before the next round came. He knew he had to perform some trick maneuvers he had been practicing with his sword if he was going to be able to take both of them out within the next minute or so. The vines began to fly past him as he charged directly at the first. He was about to pull out a complex sword maneuver when a vine came directly towards his feet. His mind clearing, he could strategize, and leaped, landing on the rushing whip of plant matter, and leaping off it into the air, bringing Gilgamesh down on the corn demon, splitting it in two with great force wrought from his fall. The adrenaline was so much from having successfully pulled that off, he didn't notice the baseball sized kernels coming at him full force, and took the full brunt of a corn cannon.
"I've had enough of this," he said raising a fist, "Come, Birdman, Defender of the Skies!"
A superhero clad in green and having wings sprouting from his back appeared, and in a single slash managed to fell the last corn demon.
Just as he did so, however, 5... 10... 15... soon Sigurd lost track. An army of tomato demons rose from the earth. Oh brother, he thought.

Re: A Hero's Grace
Sigurd began to rush through the tomato demons, however, unexpectedly, they appeared to be much faster than the corn demons had been. It seemed as though they were trying to trash talk him, however, Sigurd managed to block out whatever it was they were trying to say. He was quite resilient to words, after all.
One by one, the tomato demons began to shoot tomato juice at the mage and his winged companion. However, the two of them were faster than any of the tomato demons, and quickly began to cut them down. The first one that Sigurd was able to strike easily broke open, first splattering red juice everywhere, and then deconstructing into tens of ripe red fruit, which tumbled down to rest upon the ground. It seemed as though the same rules which applied to the corn applied here. Excitedly, he swung around, piercing through the soft skin of another tomato demon, and watching the same thing happen. Taking note, Birdman swung his single clawed hand as a swift gesture and managed to make contact, perforating another fruit and creating more red rubble from it's body.
Sigurd smiled, and knew that he had made the correct choice in summon as he considered the ability of this particular superhero.

Re: A Hero's Grace
Making a few hand gestures, Sigurd tried to notify his partner of what his plan was. When Birdman looked over he was met with the image of Darknight's hands spread out, like an explosion. He nodded, and swooped over to the summoner, grabbing him by his biceps, and taking off into the air, landing 30 meters away from the crowd of tomato goblins. He looked at his master, who replied with a nod, pointing towards the crowd of red-headed fruit monsters.
Birdman's wings turned to face forwards. "Feather Shot!" exclaimed the hero, firing several of his natural darts out of his wings, each as sharp as steel. They began to hit the tomato demons, piercing their flesh, and causing juice to splatter everywhere, painting the ground red.
Darknight pumped his fist in excitement, "Nice, you took some of those bastards down... wait, but where are the others?" he questioned. It seemed that only five of the tomato ghouls had been destroyed by the feathered barrage, and the tens of others were gone. All of a sudden, a bunch of the tomatoes burst out of the ground, and shot their juice at the unsuspecting Birdman. When the red had cleared, the summon was reduced to a glimmer of gold in the wind, having been completely dispelled. Darknight grimaced as he prepared to take on the next twenty or so tomato fiends.

Re: A Hero's Grace
Sigurd Ducked under cover behind some trees after the tomatoes were finished with his last summon. He wasn't quite ready to take on an entire army of plant demons by himself. He began thinking about his brother again. He began thinking so hard that he slipped into an old memory of his from before he called himself Sigurd. Back when he was Maxwell Chevalier Jr. Back when he was with his loving father, his sweet little sister, and his best friend, his younger brother, Victor. He remembered running around the mansion with them. He remembered when Maria was 4 and she would fall down and scrape her knee, how she would cry and cry, and how Victor would cry because he didn't know what to do, and it would be up to Maxwell. He remembered how close they all were, and he remembered how heartbroken he was when he came home one day when he was only 16 years old to see the entire house on fire and his brother standing there with his bloodied spear. He remembers the rage he felt when Victor told him what had happened. It simply wasn't fair. He couldn't allow this town to be run to ruin by these pathetic vegetables. He would win, he swore it.

Re: A Hero's Grace
Like a flash of lightning, the shadowy warrior Darknight emerged from his cover, much to the surprise and fright of the many red creatures he was heading towards. He directly plunged his sword into the head of one of the creatures, killing it on impact. He twisted the blade, causing the head to completely fall apart, and soon the monster was turned into fresh fruit. Smiling, he could sense the other monsters coming towards him, preparing to avenge their fallen comrade only for two of them to be met with a swift kick to the torso, and a piercing nail to the head. Not only that, but the melee attacks were hot as a fire, causing the plants to light ablaze and disintegrate. It had been a while, but Sigurd had decided to finally summon one of his strongest summons, Overheat. She was the strongest of all the Defending Four, and their leader. Not only that, but her element gave her the advantage over these tomatoes as well. They looked at each other, and nodded, then the leapt off into different groups of tomato monsters, Sigurd swinging his sword, Overheat launching flame imbued punches and kicks, destroying tomato after tomato in their wild frenzy.

Re: A Hero's Grace
Sigurd in this moment deeply understood what it was he was trying to achieve by becoming a magician. It wasn't enough, being a hero in any other way then by directly helping people. It wasn't enough to feed empty bellies, or teach empty minds. It wasn't enough to give financially to the guilds and institutions, as his family had for years. Nothing would have satisfied his yearning for heroism than becoming a mage. He realized in that moment that he needed to increase his influence. He had to become a hero for all of Fiore, and he knew that he needed a platform to do so. he wanted to destroy all evil across the kingdom. As he and his summon tore through tomato after tomato, he began to increase his speed and excitement, eventually becoming blur as he slashed the plants. It even seemed to shock his partner, Overheat, as she watched him become a storm of slashes. He knew what he had to do. All of a sudden, his life had purpose, and that purpose was directed. He wouldn't just claim to be a hero, he would truly be one. He would become a legal mage. That was his destiny. By the end of his fit of power, there was one tomato left. He stared it down.

Re: A Hero's Grace
After seeing the lone demon, Sigurd opted to dispel his summon, leaving only him and the monster. He raised his sword, and began to speak to the monster, regardless of whether it could really understand him or not.
"You fiend! I am Darknight, Defender of the Void, and I control all of time and space. I am a hero, and I am here to destroy you and your kind. You have terrorized this village enough. It is time for your reign to end. With my blade I will strike you down. I have the might to split this world in two, to open up spacial vortexes through all of reality. You stand no chance you tomato. Take this! This is for the village you terrorized, this is for the attacks against my comrades, this is for your cruel words, and this is for me." He said, thrusting his sword in and out of the monster, reducing it, like all of the others, into a pile of produce.
Sigurd sighed as he sheathed his sword. He wasn't entirely sure what had come over him just then, and needed to take a breather. As he prepared to sit down, however, he hear footsteps coming up from behind him.

Re: A Hero's Grace
Sigurd turned to face the elder and his granddaughter who were now approaching him with a coalition of villagers with wicker baskets to come and collect the veggies which had been generated by the defeat of the demons. The elder had brought with him a sack of jewels to reward the young mage.
Sigurd shook his gloved hand as if to dismiss the older man, "I'm a hero, I don't need payment."
With a glint in his eye, the older man laughed, "I was watching your fight with those demons. I could tell you have great potential as a fighter, and as a mage, I want you to take these to better yourself as a hero. Improve your equipment, your living space... anything that would be able to help you help others. I can tell this is only the beginning of your journey. Though you handled those demons quite well, it didn't seem as though they were at their strongest. Even your summons seemed pretty tame."
"W--- what are you talking about? I'm a hero not a mage, and those weren't summons, that was my hero team."
The old man laughed, "Sure, sure... but take the jewels, please. Become the greatest hero there is."
Hearing that, Sigurd's heart lit up. He would become a great hero. He would make this town proud.
