For Yona Hisamori, travel was never an issue, and given that she lived on an island, it was more of a requirement. When she decided to take up on this job, she had already accepted the whole white outfit routine that was part of her new guild. It had been a short time, but she was comfortable in the clothing and it was refreshing to be part of something. The white clothes might have been impractical, but having them on reminded her that she was not on her own for once. Sure, her independence was still naturally a part of her, but Yona's resources and connections grew in proportion to her cooperation and involvement with her guild. She knew that of course. It didn't hurt that von Weiss was growing on her either.

She straightened her white boots at her knees and then moved from bent over to straight standing up. She adjusted her white short shorts one last time and the suspenders over her shoulders kept them upright where they belonged. She wore a cropped snow-shaded shirt under the suspenders and chose to carry her big pale coat over her right arm before she headed out to the farm. She didn't think she would want to wear it out in the field but who could tell. Weather changed fairly fast.

Yona tied her long green hair back in a tail as she strode out the door, down the walk and up the hill. She approached the half-planted field atop the hill. Yona had promised the farmers who owned all the acres out here that she would help. They had laughed, honestly surprised that a young and beautiful woman such as herself would want to. She pursed her lips, recalling their words. "Sure, lady, you can stand around and look pretty. Maybe drink some lemonade and watch the guys all work?" Yona had given them a demonstration of her magic, showcasing her knack for plants. After that the farmers were happy to have her helping them out.

She stepped through the tall grass and breathed in the fresh open air. The crops had been well tended in most of the places on the farm but in the areas where the retiring farmer had been responsible the land had been neglected. She bent and touched the ground, feeling the dry soil and sighed. The weeds had overgrown on the ground, sucking up water and nutrients but leaving none for the plants the farmers wanted to flourish. The rows of vines indicated these were grapes, probably for export for wine-makers. Yona understood the complexities of flora as they fit into ecological communities. As much as weeds as these had their place in fields, forests, and the like, Yona knew the difference between healthy symbiosis and a hostile takeover. And she appreciated diversity even in a farming field.

Yona walked over to a nearby fence and found the bag of supplies the other farmer owned. She opened it up, dusted some ants off the pack, and discovered shovels, small ones, and a few other miscellaneous and rusted tools. She rubbed her hands together and got down on her hands and knees. For the next two hours, the green haired woman bent her back and put her nose to the grindstone. The area was dutifully cleared of refuse, leaves, and weeds. She collected the refuse and piled it near the path and the fence. Then she went about checking the vines herself. One by one, examining them for disease. She saw no signs of it though, no black spots, no decaying roots where they shouldn't be. At least everything else seemed to be in good condition.

Many of the plants were yellow around the edges however, a sign of nutrient deprivation. Yona went back to the fence and hoisted a large bag of soil over her shoulder. Her boots weren't very white anymore and neither was her shirt or shorts, but her coat which rested on the fence was at least clean. The soil spilled from the bag in careful calculated amounts from a woman who had practice doing things like this. Yona had been working gardens and greenhouses since she was a child after all. The woman rubbed sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand. Yona carefully pushed the soil around the base of the vines and the roots of the plants closeby. It was an easy way to earn some money and she enjoyed this kind of work.

She patted her hands free and dropped the bag of tools and empty soil bag. Everything was done best as it could be and she had hoped it was good enough. Yona shrugged as she grabbed her coat and headed back down the hill. She could always go back for harvest season and who knew, maybe it would earn her a bottle of wine.
