If you want the short and easy version: I'm leaving the site, and I don't have any intentions of returning. Not just that, but I believe my days of Roleplaying as a whole are finished.
Now if you want to stick around for the long version, I do warn you that I have a lot to say, though it won't be as much that's written in my Magic Application. Or maybe it will. I don't know.
In all honesty, I don't even know where to start here, so I guess I'll just cover things in what I think should be in chronological order. So first and foremost, I would like to apologize to anyone I currently have threads with (though it isn't much). I couldn't see myself having the patience to finish them, or even write a single more post on this site. I find myself blankly staring at the screen most of the time, reloading the page to see if something interests me, in spite of the fact that I know nothing will. I try and look down at all of the people that have been online in the past 99 hours, and think about if any single one of them could be a good Roleplay partner. Unfortunately, there is none. That's not to say that everyone else's character is the problem, though. On the contrary, it's my fault; by refusing to join a Guild, making myself a vagabond, and making my character the First God of Ishval, I've essentially backed myself into a corner where if it's nothing completely serious, dangerous, or amusing, then it wouldn't make any sense at all for me to put any time and effort on it. This essentially negates pretty much all kinds of threads that are intended to have the purpose of fun behind them, such as parties, mishaps, mayhem, and just good old fashioned fun. It's not to say that I'm not interested in this stuff.... it's just that I can't see my character being interested. And that's where the fault is.
Why not just make an alt? Because I don't find that to be a reasonable solution. I've poured literally all of my creative thinking into making Deniel's character, Magic, and story. I have none of it left to give to any other character, and I doubt it would ever come close to filling the void that I feel within it right now. I've worked on his rank for quite a long time, and his story is literally thousands of words long, and I developed it to as much perfection as I could. I wouldn't be able to recreate that same creativity within someone else that I don't have as much passion for.
Why not join a Guild? The problem with that is I know there's only one reason I would be accepted into a Guild: My rank. A lot of people may deny this, but I know that deep down it's one of the primary goals. I'm H rank. I'm the First God of Ishval. People want me as a status of power more than they do of friend; if we've got Deca on our side, we'll be so much better! Of course, this isn't the only reason. I just know it's a PRIMARY one. And once again, this is something that I only have myself to blame with my goal for H rank and my position. Of course I do realize that being in a Guild could give some good friendships, maybe some IC relationships... but if I'm not invested all that much in it as a free Guildless person, I can't see myself being even more invested when I'm tied to a single Guild.
The character of Deniel is something that's been with me for quite a long time, and he's been through many different worlds, adaptations, phases, and everything that has followed me as I grew. And I think it's finally time I laid him to rest where he's at now, as high as I could achieve. On this site at least.
My time on this site truly has been a unique one. It's like only yesterday I was just a D rank newbie not knowing what Magic he should do. And I worked long and hard on a solo journey to achieve the same power that has now backed me into a corner that I can't see any escape from. From being a nobody, to being an ace, a Guild Master, a nobody with a rank, and here I am now. I've really been through ups and downs on this site. The people I've interacted with, see come and go, have all been very unique ones. And though I didn't necessarily like all of them, the ones I did really made my day from time to time.
Now with that out of the way, it's time for my personal opinion. Before I leave the site, I want to make sure that there is nothing left behind. Now unlike SOME people in the past, I'm not going to target specific individuals or groups, but rather give my final thoughts on some things to the site. Both the good and the bad. People hear far too often what they think is wrong with the site (especially staff, I'm sorry for you guys), and it's hard to find good beneath that ocean of Salt. So, I'll start with that.
- The Good:
- Staff: You guys are great. All of you. Okay, most of you... but still! You put A LOT of your time and effort into something that physically doesn't pay you for it. It's because of your volunteering to keeping the site going that's what keeps it from traveling so far downhill.
- The GOOD community: There's a bad side to the community as well that I'll talk about, make no mistake. I want to discuss the good part, first. And that's the sense of humor that this site has. Everyone, has their own unique sense of humor that can blend in VERY well together in the Chat Box when no one is triggered or mad. And also... the unique characters on here. Not everyone makes a unique character, don't get me wrong. And not everyone sticks around for a while. But those who do have very nice characters, concepts, Magics, and stories to tell that make the site a wonderful place to be.
- The Rules: The Rules get A LOT of hate from people, but I'm not afraid to be the first to sit there and defend them as a veteran on the site, and not just a new person who's mad about one thing interfering with their "plot". I've kind of expressed my concern over this before, but I really like the rules. I like how they are referred to as "guidelines", and don't give out things that are so specific, everyone needs to be the same. Everyone has their own freedom to create, diversify, but still be within balance of each other. Some people see them as not being too specific as a problem, but to that... I think that you just lack creativity. It's not meant to be personally insulting, but the fact that literally hundreds of other people have been able to work with that exact same system, and you can't shows much more about your level of creativity than it does with a flaw in the rules. Shakespeare is not boring, or else he wouldn't be so famous. You are.

- The Bad:
- The Bad Community: You all probably knew that this was coming, and it's talked about a lot. However, there's no way I'm going to depart without discussing it. This is going to be a long one... so brace for impact. There's a lot of bad stuff that I find for the community. Rather than just complain about it, though... I'm going to provide my own sense of a 'solution', and advice to these kinds of people. Keep in mind that I'm not going to state or target specific individuals. So if you think you qualify as one of these... ask your self. Not me.
"I'm Going to be H Rank": This is something that I've talked about before in my thread titled "Just Relax", and my point still stands. Just. Relax. Everyone. If you claim that this character of yours was created for the purpose of "story" and "plot", then you don't NEED to be a high rank. Of course, you could be like me, and have that rank be a part of your story and plot. But if that's the case, you don't need to showcase it and talk about it so much. And that's my main problem here. How people think that just by talking about their H rank plans and H rank spells in the Cbox or in Skype chats will suddenly give it to them. I earned H rank by working for it, not by talking about it. You need to be a Guild Ace, Guild Master, or VIP to become H rank. Not everyone can become that, and not everyone can get H rank. You think you can? Do it. Work for it. I've seen 1 person do it before my eyes with all of my time on the site, and I've seen a lot of people come and go thinking they'll be like me and that one person. My solution for this? Just relax. I've said it before. Just relax... and if you see someone doing this, just tell them to relax. Don't start an argument, don't debate about it, and don't be rude. Just tell them to relax, because that's what they need to do.
"Staff hasn't checked my App": This is very present in the Chat Box. And the very simple solution to this is patience. Have patience, my friends. There's only a limited number of staff members, and an even more limited number of them that actually have the time to do things. The request thread was there so that they know what needs to get done. If staff hasn't checked your app in just a day or two, you don't need to complain about it to people on the Chat Box. Just relax. You're certainly not the only one that matters, the only person they're grading stuff with. Stop being so self-centered and just have a little bit of patience. Now if you're like me and waited SIX MONTHS for your application to be graded, then you can say stuff. But until then, just relax my friend. If you see someone complaining about this in the Chat Box, just... try and reason it out with them. I don't think that behavior like that should be just allowed to continue unnoticed, though. Staff already has enough on their mind, they don't need to be rushed with it.
"So-and-so's Magic Application Has this": You don't care about PvP, huh? You only care about YOUR character's plot? Your story? Your threads? Then why in the world are you intentionally looking at another person's Magic Application, nit-picking it to your whim, and then reporting it to a staff member with the intent of having it nerfed? Where's the logic in that? Leave other people's applications alone. At the same time, don't brag about yours in the Chat Box. If you present your stuff is overpowered, don't complain later that it's being nerfed for being such. My solution? Players, don't do that. It's a dick move. Unless it's stuff like... punching at the speed of light, it really shouldn't be your business. Unless you're being threatened in a PvP thread, unless it has absolutely no counter, unless you're a PvP person, unless you're fighting that specific person, and unless they intentionally exploit and brag about it... who cares? Who honestly cares? And I think that's the attitude staff should have with approaching this. Unless that said person is exploiting it to their every whim against others, especially the person who's complaining about it, why trouble both sides? And yes. I said "Unless" a lot there.
"Slayers": Now this is gonna' probably piss people off, but I want to make something clear: I don't hate the players. I don't hate the characters. I hate slayers. I hate the concept behind them, I hate how much attention they get, and I hate how much they're presented as a big deal. What's the issue? The issue is that people are constantly talking about it, suggesting alternatives, trying to find ways to become a slayer, and thinking the registration system is broken. They're just slayers, okay? It's literally just Elemental Magic that's either good, bad, or neutral that you can eat. If you can't come up with anything more creative than that, I've got news for you... My main pet peeve for this is how much attention they get on the Suggestions forums. This is especially annoying with the whole "Force Has Been Nerfed" thing. I'm NOT going to express who I think is right or wrong with it... I'm just saying that it's incredibly ridiculous how much attention that got. On a much more personal note, something else about that, that annoys me is how my suggestion for a MAGIC COUNCIL (something the site seriously needs), gets much less attention, views, and feedback, then on a 'nerf' to a Magic not everyone can use gets almost 500 views. That last part there was much more of a personal thing, but... I just don't like Slayers. And I don't know much of a solution for it. I only think they shouldn't be such a big deal. - Site Events, and Sinner/Saint Positions: Site Events is a HUGE thing when it comes to discussion, and it's usually met with a lot of opposition. Not only are site events rare, but in the ones that I've seen, they have been less than successful. Not only that, but they are key to getting Saint and Sinner Positions people seem to want as much as H rank, and think it's just going to be handed to them because they want it. My solution? Get rid of both. It may seem like such a drastic thing to do, getting rid of site events entirely, but with how big the community has become, I see it almost completely impossible for them to do. Unless something huge changes about the formula, nothing will work with it.
I often hear from veterans who have been on the site longer than me that events used to actually work because people were more than willing to do the part they were capable of doing, not what they WANTED to do. There are a lot of issues with the events for the site currently. The way it goes is that a lot of people are going to sign up, it'll take forever to get through the first round or so, people will go inactive, leave, or just drop the event, and then we're left with a handful of people.
The lower ranks will complain about the higher ranks being able to do things, and the higher ranks can either do something and get hate for it, or do nothing and have it make literally 0 sense. I'm not going to put all of the blame on the lower ranking people here, but I will say that, that kind of attitude is absolutely atrocious, and not healthy for the site or events. Thinking that your contribution is determined by your rank alone, and directing all of that to hate on the higher ranks is not the way to go about it. They worked long and hard for that rank, let them use it. You want to be like them? Work long and hard for your rank too. Not everyone can be the Natsu to defeat the bad guy; somebody has to do it, and it HAS to be the higher ranks whether you like it or not. The reason for this is that if a C rank can defeat the main NPC villain, just what kind of threat does he/she pose? And just because you're not the one that gets to contribute that much doesn't mean that you haven't contributed at all. Just walk it off, participate in your own way, get over yourself, and hope for a better result next time.
Of course, this is all if we continue the same formula where we have some X or H rank baddies up to no good; and if it doesn't work the next time around (if there is a next time), then it won't work at all with how many people are attempting to make an impact for those glorious Saint and Sinner positions. An alternate solution is to have events do unique things like scale some people down intentionally, be divided based on rank alone, have an event where the goal isn't to defeat a bad guy, and many other things that are different in comparison to what we have now. Of course, this is IF staff is still willing to go through the toil and frustration of having to run an entire event, which is easier said than done.
And my solution to all of this is just get rid of site events entirely. If people want to have events, make it between Guilds, inside of a Guild, or just a handful of people. The site is far too large to pull off a successful event with this constant formula, and maybe even a formula change wouldn't do it any good. And when it comes to removing the restriction for participating in events for the Saint and Sinner position, I say this because our most recent Saints and only Sinners have made quite literally 0 impact on the site when it comes to events. Why? Because they all died and we couldn't make an impact. The rank requirement alone is enough to prevent everyone and anyone from just applying, and just like a Rising Star or a Coming Storm, it's still up to the discretion of the person in charge of the positions. People won't be handed it just because they ask for it, and if they complain about it, it shows they're a sore loser and shouldn't be responsible for something like that anyways.
In short: Either change the site events completely, or get rid of them. And if you get rid of them, remove them as a requirement for Wizard Saint and Sinner so that more people could actually have a chance at filling up those empty spots. That doesn't mean that everyone will with the rank gap and requirement, though.
Not me.
And with all of that out of the way, there's just a few more things I'd like to say.
Thank you everyone. This is the very first RP site I've ever stuck with for more than a couple of weeks, and I had a blast while it all lasted. The only last request I have is for Staff, and perhaps other people to PLEASE check out my Magic Council. Like I said earlier, I found it disappointing that Slayers get so much more attention than NPCs of this magnitude, but I'm going to make it for one more push. As for my character, well... I dunno'. I would like myself to be in that Honorary Wizard Saint section so that I'm there at least. If my Magic Council idea is accepted... maybe he could be a member? If not, then he's dead. Plain and simple.
I'm not going to make my "Official" leave until school starts for me on August 22nd. Until then, I'll be popping in and out of the Chat Box every once in a while to chat up with people. If you want to add me on Skype maybe to talk to me about stuff, play games or something, then feel free. My Skype is murusheilago
Just know that if we don't talk for a while, I'm not going to hesitate to remove you.
And finally, keep in mind that this is a FAREWELL thread. Not something that I want people to argue and debate about my "Good" and "Bad" stuff. It's all my personal opinion, and it's why I put it in Spoilers. I really don't want any comments about it, and would rather people just think about it above all else. It's my last farewell, so I wanted to make sure I said everything I wanted to say.
See you guys. Good luck. Have fun. Happy posting. And just relax! This is it.
