And while you are sitting indoors
waiting for the storm to pass
I will be outside dancing in the rain

Today was a very important day. Maybe not seen as one to others, but for Astrid this may as well be judgement day. Because she was in fact going to be judged. Not by God or another spiritual force mind you, but by her mother. Though honestly was there really any difference between the two?
A few days ago, out of the blue, the woman had sent a letter to her daughter stating that she would be visiting to congratulate her on her new position as guild master. News traveled fast, apparently. Even people within her birth village of Mountain Village were hearing of all her accomplishments. Either that or her grandfather was bragging again, like how all of Peace Village ended up finding out through the old man’s big mouth. It didn’t really bother her much, as by now most if not all of Fiore knew of this. But at the same time, who really knew what exactly everyone else knew… That was the downside of being in the public eye, you never know what they could find out. Especially the things you wish no one else to know.
This is what made Astrid so uncomfortable. The silvernette could not help but think this would end up being more than a simple exchange with light hearted words. Her mother was simply not that kind of woman. Violet would not take the time to visit her without some sort of reason for her own self gain. She had not done this when her daughter achieved the highest ranking within the Rising Stars, nor when she became an ace of the guild. So for her to suddenly show up now? There was a bad feeling within the pit of Astrid’s stomach. She didn’t know what her intentions were and it was driving her crazy.

The Elvish girl stood in front of her bedroom mirror, her normally white skin pink and soft, body covered in only a single white towel, still slightly wet from the shower she merely took minutes ago. She picked up a few of the damp locks of hair and ran her fingers through them, testing to see if it was smooth enough to meet her raised standards. Deciding it was not she grabbed the head of her brush from the desk beside her and started combing it through her long hair feverishly. It passed through like it was silk, not catching any sort of tangles or knots in the process. This was of course because she had already brushed her hair. Ten times. But for some reason she kept doing it.
Sitting upon the edge of her bed Wolfgang watched the tense girl repeat the same actions over and over again. Brushing, tying, untying, brushing again. It was like a robot who was stuck in a loop with their programing. The white cat crossed his arms over his small chest, head tilting to the side as his ringed tail swished side to side.
“If you keep doing dat you’we not going to have any haiw weft to bwush” he commented, hoping the possibility of losing something precious would knock her out of this trance-like state.
But it was useless. The slayer continued, using one hand to hold back her hair while using the other to grab the tie from her mouth and loop it around the piece being held up. Purple eyes traced her work, bobbing the tied hair with the tips of her fingers.

“Chut” the French woman shushed him “i have to make this perfect.” Feeling finally content with it she looked down to her nails, humming in question. They were a little chipped. Would she notice this? Of course she would. She was going to notice every little detail she could. “Should i do my nails? Do i have time to do my nails? What time is it?”
Wolfgang looked down to the invisible clock upon his wrist.

    “Two twenty six.”

“TWO TWENTY SIX?!” the guild master repeated louder, causing Wolfgang to flinch back. “Why didn’t you say sooner?! She’s going to be here in less than four minutes!” Leaping slowly across the floor, as to not let her towel slip off of her person, Astrid rushed behind the folding screen and began a scene of throwing clothes and various other items in hopes of finding something worth her mother’s eyes. Shirts, skirts, even a stuffed puppy or two were thrown all the way across her floor in a mess, cursing silently to herself as she could not find anything she liked for this occasion.
Quickly pausing Astrid poked her head out from behind the screen. “Wolfy, could you be a dear and put the kettle on?” she asked, figuring she’s maybe gain some points if she had tea ready for when she arrived. Her mother was coming all the way from Mountain Village after all. And even though she held the stamina of a Ruin Knight it was no journey short of exhausting.
Rolling his blue eyes the exceed shook his head. Maybe if she spent a little less time worrying about perfecting one thing and focused on the bigger picture she wouldn’t be like this. But he wouldn’t say his inner thoughts, for he feared getting smacked by an angry Astrid.

    “Suwe.”
White wings appearing upon his back the exceed slipped off the edge of the bed and began to hover until eventually flying into the hallway and down the stairs. He was still able to hear her flailing and whining even from downstairs despite being slightly muffled, causing him to wonder what the neighbors thought of them… They probably didn’t say anything out of fear from the wrath of a guild master, but yet again it wasn’t like these were paper-thin walls. They were made out of good quality wood. So to be able to hear her from even down here? Maybe it wasn’t really the house’s fault and more of just Astrid’s. Maybe they should get some sound-proofing done or something. Imagine what they thought every time one of them hit the wrong note in a song.
Knowing where the kettle was by heart from all the times he made her drinks the exceed landed upon the marble counter and turned the gas to the stove on with a kick of the knob. It took a few clicks to ignite the flame, but soon after it did spark to life another noise rung. The light chime of the door bell.
A dull thud came from the second floor, followed by a cry. She was too late.
The feline glanced to the grandfather clock across the space in the living room. Two thirty. On the dot. Well she sure kept to her timing. That was some magic if he’d ever seen any.
Guessing Astrid was going to take a little longer than she liked Wolfgang stepped off the counter and flew towards the front entrance, stopping just at the front of the door to peek through the eyeglass.
A woman covered in a fancy suit of armor stood at the door, seemingly impatient as she tapped her foot upon the pavement, hands upon her hips and gazing around. She seemed… Angry. At least with that cold and angry stare upon her features. It’d probably be rude to say, but she looked nothing like Astrid at all. Blonde instead of silver, green eyes instead of purple, a freezing cold appearance versus the warm and kind aura Astrid gave off. Unless he had been told otherwise he would have never known the two were related, mother and daughter even.
Having looked her over enough Wolf pulled the handle to the door, catching the woman’s attention as she stood up straight once more and turned her gaze towards him. Chills. They were the first thing to creep down his spine when she looked him dead in the eyes. And that was saying something, seeing as how Wolf could punch a dragon in the face and not flinch. But there was something about this woman that instantly gave him a bad vibe, like he wasn’t supposed to be looking at her. But if he didn’t treat her with respect Astrid, if not her mother herself would probably have his tail cut off.
“Hewwo. May i assume you awe Astwid’s mothew?” he forced an awkward smile, trying to reenact the way Astrid spoke with her fancy-sounding speech pattern. But the woman did not respond to his question. Simply, she looked to either side of him and answered with a retuning question.

“Where is Astrid?” she asked before looking back up to the exceed, her expression shifting blankly. Not even a greeting. She really wasn’t anything like Astrid.
Unsure of how long the violinist would be Wolf moved to the side of the door, gesturing for her to come in.

    “She’ww be down showtwy. She’s having some… Twouble…”

    Violet’s gaze hardened. “Trouble?”

Wolfgang hovered closely to the adult’s ear, using a paw to shield his mouth as if to make them more quiet.
    “Dat time of da month.”

The mother’s eyes unhardened a little, letting out a simple “oh.”
The feline exhaled and hunched his back, happy his lie seemed to work. Maybe there was something they shared, an easily fooled nature.
“Well then i will wait for her down here. Excuse me.” Nudging the cat to the side Violet stepped in, green gaze looking about the large house the further she walked in. Wolfgang closed the door and turned to watch her scrape a glove-covered finger across the side table and bring it up to her face for inspection. She flicked off whatever it was she got on her clothing before continuing.
He crossed his arms over his small body, eyes narrowing. She already gave him bad feelings, the way she was so pushy and her words stuck into you like knives. She was one mother he wouldn’t want to cross. How could someone so sweet like Astrid come from… That?

Just as when Violet reached the bottom of the stairs the sound of pattering feet against hard wood thumped down them.
    “Mother!”
Astrid, with a smile plastered upon her face stopped just before reaching her mother upon the second to last step. Violet turned with the same rather icy expression as before, not changing even slightly upon seeing her daughter. Astrid clapped her hands together, pushing a big grin. “It’s so nice to see you again.”

Violet stared at her daughter for a few seconds longer than what could be counted as normal or comfortable.
“I would say the same if i was not just stuck at the top of a mountain for an hour until someone finally opened the portal leading here, and then was greeted by some flea-bitten cat instead of my own daughter.”
Her words dug deep into the girl’s skin, like a freshly sharpened dagger. Her smile faded and was quickly replaced with a thin, emotionless line. Head lowered slightly, purple eyes looking down and away from her mother’s cold stare. She had not considered the portal being a problem, and for that she felt foolish. Foolish that she had not been there and met her mother’s expectations.
Her hands folded into one another, intertwining her fingers.

“Je suis profondément désolé, mère. My mind was elsewhere. It will not happen again.” She apologized, formal bow and all.

Violet frowned. “What else is new? You always were rather thick, even as a child. I see some things never change… Sadly.”
Wolfgang silently hissed at the woman, taken aback by how Astrid could just sit there and take her insults. If he could have this woman would be torn to shreds by now. But he did not move. He respected Astrid’s wishes for him not to intervene more than acting on his own impulses.
Violet turned from her daughter to the kitchen, spotting the whistling kettle.
She walked over, turning the knob to cease the noise. The blonde then grabbed the handle and poured the steaming water down the drain next to her, dropping the metal appliance into it with a crash.
“Tea is not necessary. We will not be here long.” She turned back to look at the silvernette. “I am taking you back to Mountain Village with me. Pack your things, we leave within twenty four hours.”
The unexpected words caused Astrid to flinch in place. Leave? For Mountain Village? This is not what she had said in the letter.
Wide eyes slowly turned to the blonde, mouth parted open in surprise.

“Mountain Village? Are you… Planning on taking me back?” She couldn’t take her back, not now. Maybe near the start of her adventure, but not when she has done so much to get where she was today.

“Leaving you with your grandfather was a mistake. He filled your head with these imaginary thoughts and ideals. You were not and never will be prepared to deal with the dangerous life of a mage. You are living with me and your father from now on. Feel free to say your goodbyes to your guild mates if you must, but you are leaving, kicking and screaming or like a woman.”
None of this made sense. Astrid knew her intentions were not as she said in the letter… But this… This was so sudden and out of the blue. She couldn’t accept this without some sort of explanation.

“But… Why? Haven’t i proven myself to you yet? I-I became the number one Rising Star. An official ace of my guild, and now a guild master! So, why? Why must you take me away from a life i have proven i can live?”

Green eyes stared into the girl’s soul. “Living? I hear you died, on camera too, for the whole world to see.”
Died… She meant the time she gave up her life for Erika’s plan. It was unmistakable what she was referring too. Almost everyone around the world saw her die. Though of course she had convinced the rest of the world she had not died, but was simply knocked out. But it seems as though somehow her mother knew that was not the truth, it was like she could see right through her, like always.
Violet took a few steps forward until she was beside her daughter, pushing her own face into her’s so their noises were almost touching. Astrid winced back slightly, starting to breath quickly as she stared into those green pools of ice.
“Do you know what it’s like to watch your own daughter die? Unable to do anything but watch helplessly until she takes her last breath?” she retracted her head and stood back up straight, looking away to the front door. “You are not prepared, and you never will be. You can’t do anything by yourself. Now unless i have to pack for you too i would suggest getting to it. I will be back in a few hours to retrieve you.”
And just like that, the woman walked towards the door and left, leaving nothing but stinging words in her wake.
Wolfgang, who had been hanging out near the entrance the entire time, stuck his tongue out at her as she left before flying over to a frozen Astrid who seemed to be on the verge of tears despite her overall emotionless state. He reached a paw out to place it upon her shoulder for a comforting pat.

“Hey… Astwid… You okay? You’we… Not actuawwy going to weave, wight?” unmoving for a few more seconds Astrid turned in place, making Wolfgang drop his paw back to his side and watch as she began to walk up stairs.
    “... Astwid?”
Without saying anything the slayer stopped in the middle of the stairs vanished in a white light. Most likely into her room, if the exceed had to guess, using her white dragon slayer speed so he would not see her in this depressive state. She wanted to be along, and he could do nothing about it. He knew what this meant. She wasn't going to even try to fight her mother. She was going to leave.
Frustrated at her, her mother, and this situation in general Wolfgang scowled and kicked the air of nothingness in front of him. “Dammit!” he cursed. He could do nothing, nothing at all. She wouldn’t listen to him. Once that girl had her mind set she was too proud to listen to anyone else.
But… Maybe there was someone. Someone she would have to listen to. And if not Astrid herself, than at least her stuck up mother. Wolfgang had the perfect person in mind. If he couldn’t do anything, then maybe she could.
With no time to spare the white exceed flapped his wings and escaped through the open door and began his journey to Rose Garden.

Silver Moon Inn had a lovely exterior, with tables outside of the cafe in the front, as well as outside. While she could choose to eat on the ground floor level, right next to the street, the tanuki instead chose to munch on a cold, frozen waffle atop the roof of the inn. Seika was tending to a garden, the one fondly kept in full sun. The hybrid yokai had done her research on what sorts of flowers and herbs were best grown in full shine, and weeded as needed, while replanting as plants went away based on the season.

Izayuki sat on a bench near the garden, with one cold waffle on her lap, and another quickly disappearing from her hand. The day had been peaceful so far, with little to do other than hold the silence and continue eating. She enjoyed peace, though hated being completely alone. It was an odd combination, but at least the noises of the city and the presence of her companion kept her at ease.

One waffle down, one more to go. Luckily, the frost on it had not melted too much since she had retrieved it from the freezer. Just as she was about to bite into one of her top favorite delicacies, however, the scent of feline washed over her. Seika peered up from the garden, gazing with curious, cyan eyes in the direction of the winged cat. The hybrid remained stationary, in her mew-like, yokai form, suspicious eyes on the exceed.

The Bakedanuki put down the waffle, regretting that she had been unable to take a bite. “Can I help you?” she asked, gazing with curious pink eyes at the white feline with purple markings. She was not overly fond of cats, but did not quite dislike them either. Some scent about the exceed seemed familiar, but just what could that be?

It didn't take long for the exceed to spot the woman and her companion atop the roof of the inn. After all, since she was a guild master of course she would be near the guild. Lucky for him she wasn't on any sort of missions, otherwise it might have not gone so smoothly. But he could thank his lucky stars later, there was no time to spare.
The feline halted his flight and began to descend until his feet rested upon the table Izayuki was sitting at. He took a second for his wing to vanish in a poof of light, not wanting to use up all of his Area magic before he even got back to Astrid's home. It was one hell of a flight. He might not even have enough to get back. But even so it did not matter, he was here at least, that's all he needed to do. He would take the train back if all else failed. All he needed to do was get the tanuki's attention. Baby blue orbs gazed up to the fair haired lady.
"Gweetings, Mws Izawuki. I would intwoduce myself but i'm awraid time is against us."
Wolfgang's usually quite goofy nature was put to the side, and instead, revealed his more serious side.
"I wegwet to infowm you, but youw daughtew is being taken away from you. And you might be da only one who can stop dis." She was sure to have questions, and he was sure to answer them. But time was against them, and he could only pray she would eventually come with him.

The white exceed’s words did not yield good news. Time was against them, but just who was this small creature, and who was he allied with? She blinked rosy-hued eyes at him, with her silver-furred ears angled down as he spoke. His warning made Izayuki’s heart skip a beat as he brought up her ‘daughter’.

Few knew the truth; the Black Rose Guildmaster had refused to tell anyone, even Elyx. Astrid herself did not even believe it, last she remembered. The only other person in the world who knew was Erika, and she was a monster that Izayuki never wanted to ever encounter again. The last experience had been traumatic enough.

Putting the frozen waffle down to the side, Izayuki quickly stood up in surprise.“Taken away… by who?” she asked, teeth clenched as she recalled the last time her daughter had been taken away… by her own hands. Just who was after the Guildmaster of Golden Phoenix this time? Despite the sudden instinctive flash of anger at the news, Izayuki did her best to remain calm. Would Astrid even appreciate any help on her part at the moment… whatever it was, it likely was serious if a messenger like the exceed had been sent. “Where is she?”

Details. She asked for details. While Wolfgang would have liked to answer them, they would only lose precious seconds by doing so. And right now, even the seconds could make a huge difference.
Feeling the frustration settle in within his body the exceed jumped up and down, his arms frantically flailing about. "I just said time is against us!" he whined. After a few seconds of continuous jumping the exceed landed on his paws, his tail drooping down into a circle shape upon the table. With his baby blue eyes he gazed up pleadingly at the tanuki woman.
"She's at hew home in Oahu, packing hew bewongings because hew biwth mothew is making her weave hew mage wife behind..." he gazed down to the table below, his head sinking backwards.
"I figuwed da only pewson who could stop hew would be her weal mothew. She's done so much to get whewe she is today... You can't wet hew weave wike dis."
The feline had heard of all her accomplishments from both Astrid herself and news articles. She had done so much, sacrificed so often to get where she is today. To see his friend and teacher back down like this? He couldn't let that happen. Not just for his own selfish greed, but for her too. He knew she didn't want to go, he could see it in her expression. It wasn't fair that her mother had so much control over her, to the point where she couldn't even fight back. This was the right thing to do. If Izayuki couldn't convince her to stay, then who else could? Maybe Elyx, but that man was so all over the place it was hard to ever know where he was. The tanuki was his next best option, and at this point, his only hope.

Questions going unanswered was quick to make her suspicious. Standing up, she listened to the lispy feline as he attempted to explain the situation. Oahu was the city that Golden Phoenix had claimed to be their territory. Izayuki had never thought much about Astrid’s birth mother, and had never dared to ask in the past. Why was this mother doing something so cruel, making her leave behind a life of magic, adventure, and being a wizard-- a Rising Star, at that!

Rosy eyes blinked as the Exceed mentioned Izayuki being her real mother. Did Astrid finally believe her, and had she told others? How else could the white beast before her know? Of course she could not allow the master of her husband’s guild leave just like that. But, did she really have any right to intervene in such personal matters, even if she was the silver-haired girl’s mother in spirit?

Breathing out a sigh, Izayuki transformed into a pink-feathered jay, her favorite form for travel, and fluttered up to perch on the exceed’s head. “Alright… take me to her. I’ll see what I can do,” the Ayakashi responded in a solemn manner, without too much emotion. Seika scampered over in her tiny yokai form and transformed into a white fairy tern, also ready for travel. The companion of the tanuki did not say much, though had her own quiet reasons for wanting to follow.

The feline's depressed expression brightened at the tanuki's willingness to help. So easily too. He thought she was going to be much harder to get on board than that. Aw man, and he had this entire sob story planned out with gangsters and robot sharks who killed his mother in case he needed to bring in the big guns to convince her to come. Sob stories always worked, the robot sharks especially. Got them right in the feels. Well, that was a waste. Looks like his masterpiece would never see the light of day after all. What a shame.
Watching the guild master transform into a bird and perch upon his head Wolfgang resisted the urge to take a bite out of her and allowed his feathered wings to fold neatly out from his back and spread. He lifted off and hovered just a little bit from the table before remembering he had used a lot of his area magic to get here, feeling his wings becoming more numb by the seconds. He glanced back to Seika, who was also apparently joining them. "My awea magic is awmost depweted, so we will have to twavew fast. Both of you stay as cwose as you can, it will not take wong to get thewe." Not really caring for an answer as he knew they wouldn't really have anything to add the exceed rose higher into the sky before zipping off in a twirl of wind.

When she was younger, Astrid was a crybaby. Though too proud to admit it now the girl could have really cried over anything back then. From getting bruise and battered due to her clumsy nature to simply not getting what she wanted Astrid always managed to find a reason to turn on the waterworks daily. Yes, even over spilled milk. Where do you think the expression came from?
Growing out of this phase as she grew older and wiser Astrid was better at handling her emotions than when she was a child, though not by much. The slayer was still just as emotional as before despite what some may think. Rather, she had learned over the years how to hide it. Yes, every once in a while these emotions may bleed out of her, such as when she cried in front of Kite when she knocked a wolf's jaw clean off. But otherwise the elf has tried her best to push them aside in the name of keeping her bravado up.
However, this was one of those times when it was really taking everything she had to keep it together.
Where and how does one begin to take down their dreams?
The slayer stood in the middle of her cluttered room, staring blankly down at a vase she had accidentally broken during her rush to get ready for her mother. It was shattered, pieces of shrapnel soaked and dripping with what remained of the fresh water, two red roses intertwined within the mess. That's what her life felt like right now. A broken vase, while she was the roses, struggling to stay alive as her only source of life slowly dripped away from her, the hours painfully ticking by and not being able to do a single thing about it. Soon they would wilt, and eventually, die if they were not quickly saved.
Almost like she had forgotten to breath since she ran up here the elf let out a hard sigh through her nose and walked over to stand beside her bed, staring down at the sheets before allowing herself to fall forward to flop upon the bed, hugging the fluffed pillows towards her face to hide it. She wanted to cry. How desperately she wanted those frustrated tears to leave her face, simply wanting something to do so she would have an excuse not to think about packing. But even when she was alone, they could not seem to fall. It was irritating. She could only cry when she didn't want to, and not when she actually did. No amount of trying to force them up was doing her any good. Why couldn't she cry? She couldn't do anything else right now, so why not let her cry? Her mother was right, she couldn't even pack for herself, and now she can't even cry on her own. It was too hard to do so. Why was everything so hard?
Astrid turned onto her side and forced the pillow deeper into her face, curling up into a ball.
Maybe if she laid here long enough she too could wilt away like the roses.

Travel was fast, and the Bakedanuki failed to recall most of it, as she had thought about the little bits of information that the exceed had given her. The thought of it being a trap had also crossed her mind, though if that was the case, she was perfectly capable of handling things. At least currently, she was confident in her strength, should she be led into an ambush. As for if the story was accurate, despite the lack of robot sharks, Izayuki was prepared to confront this birthmother of Astrid. Did she not at least owe her unborn daughter in spirit the opportunity to choose her path, and not be forced to leave her mage status and come home, as her mother of flesh and blood wanted?

Before long, she came upon the portal of Oahu, and flew through it in her pink jay form, followed by Seika in her own white fairy tern form. Assumably, the exceed was also flying alongside them. It did not take much time for Izayuki to sense Astrid’s magical presence and scent, which led her to the Golden Phoenix guild master’s home. Effortlessly, and not too tired from the flight, the avian reverted back to a more familiar human shape, while retaining her tanuki features; no longer ashamed of having them on display for all to know and see.

Deciding to not rush into it, just in case this was all a setup, Izayuki calmly knocked on the door, with one hand tucked comfortably behind her, close to the base of her fluffy, silver tail. Her younger self likely would have been far more impulsive, trying the doorknob and entering into the house without warning. Should nobody answer it, she would take action as needed. However, her sense of smell definitely told her that the silver-haired slayer was somewhere in the house, and her keen canine nose never failed her.

And while you are sitting indoors

Foolish girl. Could she not see this was for her own safety?
Up until now Violet had been rather lenient with Astrid. There were many times in the past she had wanted to visit her daughter to discuss her... New life. Such as the time when the guild master's almost bare body was revealed to the whole world in that dreaded Sorcerer's Weekly magazine. Honestly the clothes that they forced her to wear! If one could even call them clothes and not just lose pieces of cloth. It was disgusting, just the thought of men getting a kick over her own child's... You know whats.
But, she did not. Mostly thanks to her husband, stating something about Astrid needing to learn and explore the world for herself. Yeah, she did. And look where that had gotten her. Dead, on television.
The media soon wrote it off as some kind of gag or a fluke, seeing as how the silvernette eventually revealed that she was in fact still alive a few days later, just with a different look. But they didn't know. They didn't see. The blonde saw her daughter's spirit leave her body. She saw it with her very own eyes. But no one would believe her, of course. They never believed her when she spouted nonsense about the supernatural. Not ever since her own mother's death.
She tried for days to tell her father about the demon, the demon that resided in that cursed violin. The same demon that sucked Vivian's life force dry until one day her body could take no more. But he was too stricken with grief to even listen to her. She told anyone and everyone she could find, begging them to get rid of the musical insturment that had cursed her bloodline for genereations. But all they did was write her off as some daydreaming kid. 'You're just like your mother, you have your head in the clouds' they would say. She could remember that being the same day she closed herself off from the world. If they wouldn't listen to her, she wouldn't listen to them.
She was a fool to leave her own daughter in the care of that stupid old man.
If he was too busy to look out for his daughter, he was too busy to look out for his granddaughter too. He probably was so deep into his work that he didn't even notice when she left the house to begin this adventure of her's. He knew she was disabled, he knew she was helpless. But instead of looking after her he just let her run free.
No wonder Astrid turned out like this.
    He ruined her.
But that wouldn't stop the blonde from trying to fix what he had broken. Again.

Children didn't get anywhere with just force, even Violet knew that. She had been maybe a little too firm with the silvernette, and eventually she knew that could possibly lead to more rebellion. But now that she was packing and doing as she said, it was time for her to have a little treat. Yes, it was the same as training a pet. Reward the good behavior and discipline the bad behavior. After all deep down they were still animals, or at least held some animal within them. Which is why, to sweeten the deal the knight had popped down to the local baker to pick up some fresh crepes. Astrid loved them. Well, at least she did when she was younger. Hopefully her taste hadn't changed in the couple of years she hadn't seen her.

The metallic armor she wore clunked and shifted with every movement made. Violet held the plastic grocery bag in one hand, while the other rested upon the handle of the sword protruding from her side, out of habit mostly. She had told the girl she would be back in a day to pick her up, but if she actually waited a day the crepes would melt by the time she saw her again... Granted she could have just picked them up tomorrow... But she was Astrid's mother for a reason. She wasn't the best thinker. So instead of waiting she supposed she would drop one off and see how the packing was going.
As Violet grew closer to the house she noticed a strange-looking woman knocking upon the door, only to not be answered even after a couple of knocks. Dull green eyes blinked. Perhaps a friend of her daughter's. Looked to be one of those half breeds, judging by the tail and ears. Normally not the best influence by their rough and tough life style... Although that was just a stereotype. But stereotypes were usually based on some truth.
... At this point the blonde could only imagine how much work she would have to do in order to bring her back to that sweet little girl she used to be, if these were the people she had been around.
"I am afraid no one lives here, not anymore. Well, at least not after tomorrow." She warned the animal girl, her voice just as cold as ever.
She stopped just a few feet away from the girl, staring as if she was gazing right into her soul.
"If you need help i would be more than able to help. Violet Foss, vice captain of the Rune Knights. What seems to be the problem?"

Izayuki Hyoujin ♦ Black Rose ♦ H Rank

The person who answered the door was definitely not Astrid; but a much older woman wearing thick, strong, and shining armor. Guessing from her armor, she was of the Rune Knights, and within a matter of seconds, the person, Violet, confirmed it. Upon first impressions, Izayuki noticed how she shared a scent somewhat similar to Astrid, the one whom she wanted to see. However, this Violet declared nobody would live there after tomorrow. Was this the threat Wolfgang had warned her about; the mother that was trying to remove the Golden Phoenix Guild Master from her beloved way of life?

Once one joined a guild to become a mage, it was rarely a road one would stray from. The life offered danger, yes, but also so many adventures and long lasting relationships. How could one who had gone so far as to achieve the Number One Rising Star position and the leader of her husband’s well known treasure hunting guild ever leave that life behind by choice?
The answer was simple; she would not.

The woman before her was undoubtedly the physical birthmother of her spiritual daughter. Judging by Violet’s demeanor, she appeared to be rather cold and harsh… how did her kid’s spirit manage to reach this woman? “Well hello there~” the tanuki girl began pleasantly, with a polite smile. “I’m Izayuki Hyoujin-Reiaki, the Guild Master of Black Rose. I’m here to speak with the Guild Master of Golden Phoenix, Astrid Foss. I take it you are a relative, based on last names?”

Astrid was here; Izayuki could smell her scent still fresh on Violet and somewhere in the house, as if the dragon slayer’s soul’s presence was not enough to tell her. Even if Violet claimed she was not there, the Bakedanuki knew better, but would give the other mother a shot at giving her a truthful answer.

And while you are sitting indoors
waiting for the storm to pass
I will be outside dancing in the rain

Izayuki Hyoujin. That name was infamous and Violet recognized it instantly, even without the added title of the Black Rose guild master. She was the current number one Wizard Saint, a questionable one at that. As if Black Rose didn't have enough of a bumpy reputation within the Rune Knights in the first place this woman was the leader of said group. She was already quite familiar with the woman's work, given that a couple of times she had been dispatched to clean up some of her... Messes. Which probably drove the woman to dislike her a little more than she already did upon hearing the rumors and knowing of her involvement with her daughter's death. The Rune Knights were no janitors, but the mages these days were making them seem that way. Day by day there were new mages, and day by day the Rune Knights were getting smaller and less work, making them obsolete. Guilds were all the rage these days, and eventually, would leave the Knights in the dust if they were not careful enough.

Violet clenched the hilt of her sword tightly as if ready to strike, and kept it there just in case the slayer had something in mind. Usually she was good at controlling her anger, but now recognizing the guild master she could not help but becomes slightly infuriated. The image of her daughter's death plagued her, and with it, so did Izayuki.
Fighting against her urge to strike out the blonde placed the bag of crepes down onto the ground. There was no use ruining them with whatever task the pink haired half breed wanted.
"A relative, yes" she stared down at the youkai, somehow even more coldly than before.
"She isn't available right now. But as a Rune Knight and as her mother i can take up any business you have with her myself." She wasn't sure what kind of business she had with Astrid, but if it would falter her coming home Violet would not allow it.

Izayuki Hyoujin ♦ Black Rose ♦ H Rank

The tanuki took note of the Rune Knight’s rather hostile movements, including the harsh gaze and how she went for the hilt of her sword. Perhaps the Wizard Saint’s reputation preceded her, and Izayuki could definitely agree that it was more of a shifty one when it came to legal mages. The yokai could smell anger, but dared not remove her constant red gaze from the woman, or give up the formal smile on her face. Instead, she grinned slightly at the reaction, finding it rather amusing.

So this was the mother trying to remove Astrid from her mage life, or ‘mage wife’, as the small white exceed had put it. “Hmm, I don’t think so,” Izayuki hummed, still smiling at the words and actions of the blonde. “This is business between guild masters, and I’m afraid a dog of the Magic Council will simply not do~”

The words were meant to be a jab, as Izayuki vividly recalled the battle with the Kingdom of Navrick. In her Kitsune disguise, she had taken the side that was against the Magic Council, finding their attack somewhat petty, and not quite trusting the idea of the Infinity Clock in their hands. As she had hoped, Navrick won the battle, and send the Rune Knights and their legal guild allies packing with their tails between their legs, and rightfully so.

The Bakedanuki flicked her silver-furred tail in a relaxed manner, and folded her hands behind her back casually. “So if you don’t mind, I would like to see Astrid, or at least wait until she is available. It’s a little urgent~” Izayuki responded, at least content that Violet did not push the fact that Astrid was not there; simply not available. She could live with that, but she wanted to find out what was really going on from Astrid herself, not only from the words of the exceed or the harsh Rune Knight.

"Hmpf. I may be a dog, but remember that dogs bite when agitated enough." The blonde warned the woman coldly, not being a fan of the tone she was using with her. The insult was not new, she had been call the council's dog from time to time in the past. It was one of many insults hurled at the Rune Knights constantly, simply for choosing to follow the way of the magic council. If that was she was, then so be it. Nicknames did not bother her. It was all she received for protecting the land of Fiore. It would be a lie if one said the Rune Knights was a forgiving job. They fight for the people, but those very same people were also the ones you fought against more than foreign threats. Yet the people don't realize this, and think of them as corrupt. If they thought that was corrupt she would like to see what they thought of other nations who had little to no freedom. They should be lucky they get what they do now.

"She is resigning as guild master from today forward. Meaning whatever business you have with her is hereby dissolved. Now i suggest you leave before this dog finds its jaws clamped around your throat..."
Upon saying those dark words Violet would release her magical aura. It pulsated around the current area, thick and stagnant in the air. It could force a lower ranked mage into the ground if they were not prepared for such a harsh and overwhelming force.
The heavy energy was easily identifiable as an X-rank magical force, if not even higher than that...
It was meant as a warning to the guild master. To leave alive, or dead in a body bag.

Izayuki Hyoujin ♦ Black Rose ♦ H Rank

Izayuki only maintained a grin at the threat, amused at the exasperated behavior of the rune knight. “Hm, I don’t think so. She isn’t resigning of her own will, is she?” the Bakedanuki replied, bracing herself as soon as Violet began to release her magical aura. It was immense, but something of that caliber was to be expected from a leader within the dogs of the Magic Council.

That smirk never removed itself from the Guildmaster’s face. In under a split second, the Bakedanuki was no longer in front of the Rune Knight, but directly behind her. The tanuki brushed her large fluffy tail against the back of the cold armor, and attempted to give the physical mother of Astrid a little push from behind through the open door, using her tail strength that was well beyond X rank. “You probably didn’t know this, but violence is generally frowned upon in Oahu, once more or less governed by my husband before he promoted Astrid and Summer. If you want to leave this place without any problems and an entire guild against you, I suggest you abide by their laws~” she mentioned with a lighthearted giggle.

Whether or not there was a reaction from Violet, Izayuki began to tread into the house, allowing her own presence to be felt. Surely if Astrid was here, she would recognize the magical aura of the Black Rose guild master, as well as the angry magical presence of her birth mother. If that did not either force Astrid into hiding or bring her out due to curiosity, the yokai did not know what would. “Astrid~!” she called in a cheerful voice, seeking the Golden Phoenix member.
