The world is wast and ever changing. For that reason, the goddess incarnate wanted to see everything with her own eyes, feel things that regular mortals do and face dangers that would never dare approach her in her own divine domain. It was the reason why she chose to be trapped in a mortal vessel made out of warm flesh and blood, capable of dying on a whim. With it, she grew up in her own tribe in Joya and eventually made her way through the mountains and into the outside world. That was her journey, her purpose in life right now. To explore and find that which she does not know. And to be fair, there was a whole lot for the girl to see, as pretty much everything that common men would consider completely normal was perfectly new for the goddess.

Even rules and opinions were fairly new concept for her, as she moved through different nations. Some were ruled by the wise and the citizens could not be more happy. Others were terrorized by power hungry monarchs that went crazy long past. But Noheme did not stay in any of these places for too long, albeit she wished to. It was hard living in a world where you knew no one and owned nothing at all. There was simply no way she could just stay somewhere, as people would demand payment from her and would promptly attempt to kick the fox girl out when they learn that she has nothing to give. Behaviour like that towards a higher being, it was completely unforgivable.

Which was precisely why she wasn't going through it. Because she was aware that she would not have any problems hurting those that would try to get their small, stinky, grabby hands on her. Yet, she wished not to leave a trail of dead behind her. So she just kept on going, from one place to another. Until she reached one rather peculiar nation, different from all the others. It appeared that magic was not welcomed here, which was odd to say the least. Fools that would distance themselves from magic to such extent, surely there was no limit to their idiocy. Magic was useful and seemingly infinite, unlike other sources of power that humans learned to use for their advantage.

Just refusing it without any proper reason other than thinking it's unnatural was just something that the goddess could not comprehend. But she still wished to explore this land and it's customs, for that was her quest, her journey and purpose. The very reason she decided to taint her godhood by a mortal vessel... simply because she wanted to learn about the world that they called Earthland. And now she was here, going through the streets with a heavy leather cloak hiding her figure beneath it. She had already ran into problems earlier where people simply attacked her because they saw her fox-like tail and ears.

Apparently a clear sign of witchcraft, they shouted. Apparently there were even uneducated fools in this nation. Noheme was from Joya, the land of cat folk! And she knew for a fact that even those with animalistic traits such as herself were sometimes incapable of using magic, or simply not interested in it. Or perhaps they just disliked a foreigner in their country, that was also a possibility. Whatever the case, it forced the girl into what seemed to be the part of town for the poor layer of community, people that were having problems even keeping themselves fed. Whatever could she learn in a place like this? Surely not much, nothing of any real use.

Though, there was a rather strange feeling in the air, one that made her ears twitch beneath the leather and the hair stand up slightly. Something quite sinister was going on nearby, and it piqued the girl's interested without fail. A small smirk appeared at her face as she looked around, spying not a single living soul that would lash out at her. And with this kind of privacy, she had no problem using her strong body to jump up from the cold cobblestones, only to land on the wooden roofs that were barely able to hold her wright. Nevertheless, she continued jumping from one home to another until she reached the end of the street, finally spotting it.

It was yet another household, only done in slightly different style. This part of the city, it wasn't anything fancy at all. But judging by the appearance of this mist-covered mansion, one could probably claim that it was rather pleasant to look at once and be correct. What was giving off the eerie feeling was definitely the dark aura that surrounded the house, completely claiming it as it's own. Some form of curse or powerful magic with darkness at it's origin. That much the goddess could deduce just from looking at it, having experience with the dark herself. Perhaps investigating it could prove useful, or at least fun to her. But before she decided to jump down back onto the street and in front of the main entrance, there was yet another feeling.

A magical energy that was surely separate from the decrepit mansion. A feeling like that, she did not feel it in this country yet. But she knew it from Joya, her home and the other nations that she managed to visit along her way to this place. It was another mage, a powerful one at that! And with a little bit of focus, it wasn't hard that the source was moving as well, approaching this place. Perhaps it was a wizard hired to take care of this cursed place? It would not be surprising, as it certainly didn't look natural, and there was very little contrast between it and the other houses. Jumping down onto the street, Noheme waited and look around for the unknown mage to show up. Perhaps they could have some fun together. Even better if it were to turn out that the source of this magical energy was a cute girl that would accompany the goddess inside of the mansion!

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
Had she been here before? The grandly picturesque streets, miniature bushes and petite benches, settled into a neat formation. Her mind offered snapshots of similar scenes, labelling them carefully, pulling the process through her mind in a neat, methodical assembly line. Rose Garden. Minstrel. Clover Town. The pictures filed through, yet none showed up with a result for Pergrande Kingdom. Her eyes darted up to the scene again, appreciating the artificial orderliness of things. Though Sorano Granon wasn’t a neat freak, or anything along those lines, sometimes a person simply needed some…orderliness. A routine pattern they could always remember in their minds, one that wouldn’t change around and warp their world upside-down. It was certainly what she needed. The child held out a small hand that didn’t seem to have changed all that much since that day a year ago, when she had turned up on Fairy Tail’s doorstep. It was as if with this one hand, maybe she could grab onto whatever handles existed on this carousel of a world and simply stop it for a moment – make it take a breather for a moment, let her recover for a moment.

And in such a perfect little place, she could even believe it for a moment. The letter mage lowered her hand, bringing it to her eyes. According to some old tale she had read so many years ago, you could tell what sort of person you were just by looking at your hand. If that was true, she mused silently, what did these intersecting dips and curves etched into her skin show about herself? Recently, it seemed, life had taken a turn for the philosophical, and she found herself pondering the actuality of her very existence. It was stupid – dumb, impractical, and not worth her time, she knew, but she couldn’t stop this overwhelming feeling that the person who had once been so firmly rooted to the earth by her lack of emotion was becoming no more than a blurred splatter of a shadow in one of Monet’s paintings, perhaps. Indistinct, and uncertain. What she did know, however, was that such moments were strange, unfamiliar, and she didn’t like them. Turning slightly to the side, Sorano looked down at the tabby, currently curled about her ankles in a coil of fluffy brown fur.

“Hey, Hoshi,” she remarked, letting a finger slide down the ridge atop her companion’s forehead, “Have I been acting odd lately?” Beneath her hand, the slumbering figure stirred, releasing an abrupt whoosh of air through her nostrils. “Nyaaaaa… Huh? Sora? Whaddya say?” The words were blurred and manipulated into some strange shape by sleep, and although the expression upon her face was something worth laughing at, Sorano gave no visible response as usual. After repeating the question, Hoshi nodded, a slightly curious expression replacing that of one for whom the fog of sleep hadn’t quite lifted from yet. The exceed liked to think that she knew the letter mage the best, even if she knew deep down that no one, not even Sorano herself knew what she was like. Even so, Hoshi was someone who had been with the girl for quite some time, and could recognize when something was off about her friend. “Actually, now that you bring it up, yeah, you have been acting kinda weird,” she said, frowning slightly. The normally quiet Sorano Granon had been turning the volume down even lower recently, only putting on the speakers when it came time to address the guild. It seemed that she was trying to hide something that might show through in her voice was what Hoshi felt, though the accuracy of this had not yet been determined.

“You’re being sorta quiet and all… You’ve been spacing out a lot, too, and I feel like it’s probably just because you’re a little overwhelmed with all the stress that comes with being the new guild master, am I right?” The pressure of Hoshi’s bright amber eyes following her every movement restricted Sorano’s throat, and she paused a moment to think: why of course, it had to be just some extra stress brought on by her new responsibilities! Hearing this thought trickle through the caverns of her brain, Sorano’s throat released her vocal chords just enough for the letter mage to respond with a quiet, “Yeah, I think that must be it.” A brief silence followed afterwards, one the girl quickly took advantage of by standing abruptly. “We should be on our way, it’s a bit of a walk to the location of the job, and we haven’t much time until when we arranged to meet with this other mage who was hired."

This job was actually one that caught the interest of Sorano, one of the few that stuck out from the usual tasks for stopping thieves or hunting down some other wanted criminal. Immediately sensing something a bit less mundane, her hands had found themselves ripping the request off the board without too much thought. And now here she was, walking through the streets of some city in the Pergrande Kingdom, a land where it was technically illegal for mages to be. But, ah well, with an appearance like hers, it wouldn’t be tough to get past most people. The dark gaze she held slowly followed her feet, finding it suddenly looking at stone. Raising their heads, the two found themselves gazing up at a large mansion that radiated some form of uncomfortable aura. “I suppose it’s this thing, isn’t it?” Hoshi remarked, her formerly relaxed demeanor slipping away, and her usual personality popping up. The exceed had gotten over quite a few of her fears in the past year and a half, but they were still there, a hidden menace, waiting to pop up at any time.

“Well, Hoshi, you don’t have to worry too much I guess, since there’s a strong mage with us this time.” The letter mage pointed her head over at the figure of a cat human standing outside the gates, pacing about on the street. With just one look at her magic signature, it was easy for most mages to tell that Noheme was no joke. Walking up, Sorano would introduce the pair, saying, “Hello, miss, I’m Sorano Granon, and this is my exceed companion, Hoshi. I assume you are the other mage hired for this job?”

It took a bit, but eventually the other mage in this place showed up. Tilting her head towards the source of power, Noheme honestly didn't quite know how to react. It was a girl, which was always good. However... well, how to put it other than completely blatantly? The girl suddenly standing in front of her was nothing more than a child. Yet, power was basically pouring from that tiny body of hers, which was something a little unusual. And what more, her words sounded like Noheme was actually supposed to be in this place. Oh no, she certainly wasn't meant to be here at all. She was not hired by anyone and the fact that she was standing where she was right now was a pure coincidence. Yet there was meant to be another mage helping this one clear up the mansion? The goddess was not exactly fond of bigger groups per say, unless they were made out of cute and obedient girls. But judging by the looks of this one, she should probably not expect much. In fact, this was a little bit weird. If she was to flirt with someone like this, she herself would feel weirded out and bad. And that would be a first.

"Huh? What are ya talking about? I just got into this nation and got chased by some idiots that couldn't bear the sight of a magical creature in front of their house. I was merely passing by and I most certainly was not hired by anybody. Though I did sense your power and decided to check it out, hoping that I would find an adorable young girl that could keep me company."

During her little speech, the tone of Noheme's words changed from annoyed to teasing and somewhat seducing as she leaned forward, getting her face closer to this girl's. Her name was apparently Sorano and the fluffy thing she was carrying around was Hoshi. Some sort of cat, as it appeared. Probably would only get in the way, but she had not the heart to tell this young lass off. She also just now noticed that her nature took over again and she was attempting to flirt with a young girl. This fox girl really was a lost cause, wasn't she?

"Anyway... you can call me Eris Sytry, mage and a traveler that hails from Joya, the land ruled by the jungle and protected by the mountains. The land of cat folk, though I am not one of them."

She was a fox, not cat after all. Important distinction if one wanted to get along with this goddess incarnate. A goddess that was not very fond of waiting, her body quickly turning to face the mansion, her big fluffy tail nearly sweeping Sorano as it waggled from one side to the other. And with a sigh, she started power walking towards the front gate.

"I don't care if I'm meant to be hired or whatever, I'm bored as all hell! This place looks like fun, so I'm going in and no one can stop me!"

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
The animal-eared woman turned, her aura flickering through the brief array of emotions that many peoples’ went through when they saw someone for the first time. Confusion, irritation, surprise, curiosity, they skittered past in a flash, fading in an out of the multicolored fabric that made up the energy field. It was natural for people to wish to examine and observe one another, so Sorano took this chance to run her own gaze over this person while she looked the child over. Then, slight irritation creased itself over the rest of the conflicting emotions, and the goddess finally spoke up. A slightly confused and annoyed tone leaked from her words, as she asked what the letter mage was talking about. Sorano blinked, confused by her words for a moment. She wasn’t here for the job? Then what else might she be standing here for? Opening her mouth in order to ask the very question, the letter mage was interrupted by another statement, the woman commenting on her powers in a rather curious manner.

Having lived a relatively sheltered life before joining Fairy Tail, the emotionless girl was still pretty unaccustomed to many actions of people, this being one of them. As Noheme leaned her face ever the closer to her own, Sorano slowly leaned backwards, wondering what her motive was. An interesting shade of color blended into her aura, overwhelming the irritation for a brief moment, before she suddenly leaned back once more, the emotion fading back into a tinge of annoyance. “Anyway…you can call me Eris Sytry,” she said in a cheerful tone, introducing herself. Deciding to simply go along and be polite, Sorano registered the information within the library of her mind, and felt a temptation to delve into Eris’ aura to discover what sort of creature she was, then. Before she could even speak a word about Hoshi and herself, impatience flickered into the fox-woman’s aura, and she turned, oversized tail brushing the pair as she hurried towards the gates.

With a sharp complaint about how boring everything was, Eris stalked into the mansion, not a care in the world. “Um, excuse me? Miss Eris?” As per usual, the letter mage was a slow thinker, and it was difficult for her to make sense of things fast enough to catch up. Hurrying in after, a mental self-scolding was administered. “You’re the guild master of Fairy Tail, and a relatively powerful mage in the ranks. Why are you still so slow to make decisions?” Hoshi looked down from her vantage point high above Sorano’s head, taking note of the irritated frown that dotted her expression. “Come on, Sorano, at least it’s someone to keep you company on the job.” An easily made misinterpretation of the situation, that was true, but it comforted the child somewhat. Nodding, Sorano burst through the front yard behind the fox-woman. It was indeed a gloomy place, and immediately, an aura that screamed danger invaded her senses. Following her instincts, a small hand clasped around the grip of one of her Kagayaku knives. If something came at them, she would be prepared, at least.

A few more footsteps, and the door was pushed open, revealing a dimly lit front hall. Wait… lit? Confusion wrote itself over the exceed’s face as she realized that this building wasn’t old after all. Lamps and fireplaces were crackling and lively, furniture looked to be in its prime. There was something off here. Sorano took a moment to slip her head back outside, surprised to find the exterior was just as broken down as before. She moved back inside, gazing about, and trying to find what might be causing this. And that – that was when the door slammed shut behind them.

The young girl was not as approachable as she seemed at first. Well, that was fine for there was a good chance that she would not even follow the goddess into this nightmarish place and would instead wait on her actual partner that should be turning up in some reasonable amount of time. That was the thinking process that happened inside of Noheme's head as she headed for the front door. Sure, it would be more boring to take on whatever was inside completely alone, but it would also be better than just standing outside and counting stones in the cobblestone road. But as she approached the main entrance, a figure was still in the corner of her vision. That girl followed her in the end, deciding that the wait was truly not wort it. Somehow that brought a smile to the fox girl's face as she tilted her head back at the wooden door and helped opened it, each one of the girl taking one of the two doorknobs. And the inside... well, the inside was surprisingly neat looking. Almost as if it was a regular house that people lived in. Though the lighting could use some more thinking, as her new partner probably had some trouble seeing in darkness like this one. But at least Noheme had no problems, her enhances senses including sight. Even in dimness such as this one, she was capable of seeing everything just as fine as if the roof was gone and the sun was shining down at them the whole time. It would take a lot to take away this girl's spacial orientation and confuse her. But that didn't really help in answering the question 'why?' It was something that you always had to ask yourself, especially if you entered a half-decayed house that looked totally find from the inside.

With an audible grunt, the goddess would take few steps forward in hopes that she would find maybe some sort of a clue in the room they entered. But instead, she found something way less pleasant. As if she activated some sort of trap, her body froze the moment her feet stopped on the wooden flooring, a powerful shock being send through her entire fleshy frame. And in few seconds, her vision went completely dark, the tanned body with it's fox tail and ears collapsing to the ground breathless. But moments later, her eyes would open again. Only this time, she was able to see her own body laying right there on the cold floor... from above? This was rather confusing to say the least as Noheme panicked mildly, trying to look at herself. She was... well, she had no idea what she was. Only the upper part of her body remained, the lover one being turned into some ghostly mist that almost looked like partially decapitated mermaid's tail, as gruesome as that sounded. Not only that, her entire body was light blue in color and transparent as well! She was a ghost now, not that she knew the term. "What? What the hell is this, did you do this, you little...?!" She turned to face the girl who's name she did not know yet. This was really strange to say the least, as this kinda defied the laws of her very being. Noheme was a god, a creature that required some sort of a living, mortal vessel in order to exist in Earthland. Which mean that her real form was already something similar to a ghost, possessing the body that Sorano could see. But now... she was actually possessing a ghost body that was somehow formed through the death of her vessel. Yeah, this was weird and confusing alright. And not very comfortable either...

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
She whipped around, eyes cutting through the dim light to the source of the sudden banging noise that had erupted behind them, only to be greeted by a closed door. Confusion and caution setting in, the girl turned, trying to see whether it was the fox-woman who had slammed it shut. What greeted her, however, was the sight of the woman’s form, crumpled in a heap on the ground. Her fingers then flew to her mouth, instinctively taking a step backwards from the body. What was this? Fearing a similar fate for herself, Sorano immediately had a throwing knife in her hand, turning to look about her. Perhaps it was just that the child dizzied herself easily, or it was nausea from seeing the sight of someone dying with the slam of a door, but for a moment, her vision would blur, bringing her free hand up to her forehead. Panic. Was she about to die too? How could she – she couldn’t simply just…go now, could she? Releasing the barriers that kept her mind in so neat and organized a state, instinct and emotion scrabbled for control, biting and tearing at the rows of shelves that had dictated the most of their lives.

“S-sorano! Stop! You’re okay!” In a daze, the letter mage peered down at the pearly paw that had been laid across her hand. Slowly, the bout of dizziness cleared, and wobblingly, the shelves and walls were put upright once more. “A-ah… Thanks, Hoshi,” she whispered, blinking in slight confusion. That had been odd… She so rarely let herself out of the careful boundaries and rules set within her mind, so a sudden burst of panic like that, it was…unnatural to say the least. While she slowly re-gathered her senses, a sudden, irritated burst of dialogue caused the pair to whirl around in surprise once more. “What? What the hell is this?” a misty form hovered there, glaring sharply at Sorano, blame and something like confusion in its translucent eyes. For a moment, both stared at Eris blankly, not sure whether to be scared or relieved. Then, Sorano spoke up, “Ah, uh, Miss Eris? Is that you?” A ghost, huh. So she really had died? The child had never gotten much information about what happened to one’s body and mind after a mage died, but then again, no one really knew what happened. Some burst up into flames, some “went to heaven”, and some just…well…ghostified.

It seemed somewhat obvious to the Fairies which of those had occurred to the Joyan. “I-I don’t think I did anything to you,” she would say slowly, eyes gazing almost curiously up at the hazy outline of the fox-woman. “I mean… I kind of felt dizzy after that as well, but I didn’t…die, I guess.” The letter mage blinked slowly, looking down at her own hands. An awkward silence stretched on for a bit, and it was now that Sorano would realize just how silent it was. Having remembered the noises of a few children playing out on the street only moments before, she hurried over to a window, trying to look outside. Seeing as it was all fogged up, she would rub her sleeve over the surface to no avail. Was this even mist that beaded on the glass? Turning, Hoshi would fly over to the door in a panic, trying the knob. As expected – nothing. They were trapped. “It seems that there is actually reason to fear this place,” Sorano whispered, extending her senses out to try and perceive some sign of normality. Nothing. In fact, the usual miniscule pricks that little bugs and bacteria left in the aural field of her vision had faded. “There’s literally no sign of life here, none at all.”

Well, this was most definitely problematic. What in the world could she do in a form such as this one? Sorano seemed to be rather confused by all this as well, asked if this truly was Eris who floated in front of them. She probably shouldn't blade her for being somewhat skeptical as well as careful. She did just watch someone's body fall over, dead. And for seemingly no reason at all as well, pretty horrid thought. If this place could just kill anyone this easily, then it really was quite dangerous. Or maybe it was simply because of Noheme's nature? The fact that she was a deity that possessed a mortal vessel could have something to do with it, as she wasn't really part of that body in the first place. Perhaps she didn't even die and was merely forced out of it in a really weird manner. Whatever the case may be, she better reassure the girl that was with her, as she noticed the momentarily panic she had there. "Yeah I'm Eris, who else would I be?" Her voice was still clearly irritated, but she was beginning to calm down.

She finally got around to explaining that she didn't exactly do this to her, although she didn't sound quite convinced by her own words. That was... somewhat problematic. Not that Noheme could now be really damaged anyway, as it seemed. The moment Sorano ran off, the ghost goddess would look at her transparent body once again, even trying to touch it. But with very little success, as her hands only went through the rest of her body. So now she could not even touch her own body, huh. Well, things would certainly be interesting in this state. Soon, the girl would be standing by the door and whispering her thoughts. They were still quite loud to the goddess, as it seemed that her enhanced senses remained even in that form. And then she quite rather interesting idea based on her current predicament. If she could phase through herself, then maybe she could just move through any given object without restrictions. And if that was the case, then she should be able to get back out where this weird magic had no effect at all, allowing her to get her precious body back!

"Outta the way, dear! I'm gonna try something!" Hopefully the young guild master would listen and step aside, not that it actually really mattered. At full speed, Noheme would start flying head onto to the door, crashing into it. She honestly expected that her body would just phase through it, as that was what would make sense in her head. But instead, she merely got stopped by it as if her body was still very much real. It was even painful! This ghost situation was really stupid it seemed. "That... was supposed to work, dammit!" Getting back up, she quickly moved her hand to Sorano, letting it phase through her body. So only the actual walls of this house were stopping her and nothing else. Which meant her fighting method was basically disabled by all of this. Thinking for a moment, the ghostly girl would move a little bit away and stretch a little, light energy suddenly surrounding her. Sorano probably wasn't injured at all, but the spell still affected her and made her feel warmth inside. A healing spell. So that still worked at least.

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
“Outta the way, dear! I’m gonna try something!” Hearing the shout from Eris, the girl quickly stepped aside, whirling around to see what was happening. The ghostly figure slammed full-on towards the door, the action ending with her coming up hard against the surface, falling to the ground (could ghosts fall to the ground?). With some slight grumbling, she got up again, experimentally passing her translucent hand through Sorano’s body several times. Things seemed to be working fairly okay there, at least. Well, there we go. It was a trap, after all. As the letter mage slipped away into a slight haze of musings for a moment or so, a sudden electrical trembling rose up on her neck, the hair upon her skin standing up stiff. Sensing the magic energy radiating from the ghostly mage, Sorano looked over to see that Eris appeared to be trying out her abilities. Well, it was a slight comfort that she wouldn’t be the only one who could utilize her magic. But still…this infernal headache, what was up with it? Pressing a palm against forehead, the letter mage wondered why the healing spell hadn’t fixed it, as was standard for most healing spells. Ah, well, it didn’t matter too much. A headache could be ignored.

Hoshi glanced over at her companion, wondering why her guild master was acting so oddly. Seeing the worried haze of her aura, the letter mage nodded calmly at the exceed, a gesture of reassurance. “Well… I guess it would be best to look around a bit, wouldn’t it? We might be able to find an alternate exit…” Even if, from what she had gathered about the place, such a possibility seemed unlikely, it was worth a try. The thought of being trapped here, in this house cut off from the rest of the world was rather alarming, and brought up pictures of the chaos which would ensue back at the guild if she just up and disappeared. While Hera would likely take over and lead the guild fairly successfully, the older teen was far too impulsive and violent in her actions to keep Fairy Tail together for long. Shaking these somewhat depressing thoughts from her head, Sorano took a knife from the mirror stitched inside her sleeve, activating the tracking charm that it doubled in purpose as. Having sampled Hoshi’s blood before, a small glowing icon appeared on the miniature screen that hovered above the handle, marking the feline’s location. Hopefully the house would allow her to find her companion.

Doing a brief run-through of her inventory, the letter mage was reassured that nothing had been removed. It appeared that she was still able to utilize her abilities, which was odd considering the other mage’s situation. It was all pretty strange, and Sorano wasn’t sure what to make of it. Steeling her mind for the exploration, she began to move around the lower-floor rooms. Branching off the side of the entry hall, the letter mage found herself in an even more extravagant ballroom, ceilings arcing higher than what the exterior had suggested possible, velvety drapes casting eerie shadows over the furniture. A strangely musty scent filled the girl’s nose, and she frowned slightly. In such a spacious room, what could smell strong enough to possibly fill the area? However, her suspicions remained but a moment, as Sorano found her gaze sliding dizzyingly across the scene to another entryway in the corner. This infernal headache…! It was seriously getting on her nerves.

The healing spell had it's effect, but that was probably about it. The rest of her magic depended quite heavily on the physical world around and the fact her body was very solid and not... this. It was only natural that things were this way, even the Astral World that Noheme was from worked fairly normally and in similar fashion to Earthland. This place was what was abnormal and that quickly ruined a lot of plans. With a ghostly sight, the moon goddess became quickly helpless as none of her actual combat spells would take effect at all. Well, perhaps one would. But there was really no reason to test that now, especially since it was very much capable of harming both allies and enemies.

Not that the girl was too attached to this child who she had just met, but it would be still quite rude to sap away her life force right after healing her like that. Just one of those things you'e better off avoiding for the time being, if that made any sense. Well, it did to her, that was the main thing. Floating around, the moon goddess would soon find herself right next to the young girl, levitating above the ground in laying position with a bored look. She was taking this pretty well, at least on the outside. Not many of her age would be like that, especially after realizing that they were trapped in a hellish place like this one. And then she spoke words filled with sense. "Screw the way out, I want to find the one who did this to me and get them to revive the body! I worked... I mean, I had it for far too long to lose it just like this for no apparent reason. Ugh, this situation sucks..." No one was happy with this, that much was clear. So far it looked like this would be another one of those situation devoid of fun, becoming a drag and chore.

But Sorano would continue on anyway, which was to be expected. She wanted to get out and Noheme could not stop her from doing that. Though she had to stay behind a little bit, at least for few seconds as she realized something, screaming at the girl who marched forward in mild panic. "W..wait! Are you really gonna leave my body just laying here?! What if something happens to it, I need it back after this whole ordeal!" Not that a young girl could carry a heavy, adult body. But still, surely there was a way. They couldn't possibly just leave the lifeless chunk of meat lying behind. Whatever the girl would do or whatever choice she would make, the moon goddess could only follow her obediently. In her current state, she simply had to rely on someone who was actually capable of doing stuff like opening doors that she apparently couldn't just float through because logic of cursed houses.

It was feeling that the fox girl hated quite a bit, being completely helpless. But for now, she simply had to endure it as there was really not other option. Eventually, they would find themselves in yet another giant room, bigger than any they had seen so far. And one that was filled with strange, uncomfortable feeling. At least the source of that feeling didn't wait too long, revealing itself quite swiftly in the form three wolf-like ghosts that would start walking from the other three walls of the room. "Oh, grand. So... I can't really use any of my attacks, seeing how my hands just kinda go through stuff. What's the plan here, miss?" At least there was this strange air abut Sorano, making the girl look like she was some sort of leader or at least smart strategist. Perhaps they could even make it out if this situation alive...

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
Worry flickered over the aura next to hers, the ghostly figure managing to express emotions, despite being, well, dead. Though there were a million different things that one could be worried about in such a situation, Sorano still felt herself trying to guess what the worry could be. Had the woman discovered something else to be of concern? Apparently it had nothing to do with her, as Eris seemed to be the type to quite blatantly express her opinion about such irritations. Shrugging it off, Sorano would continue forward, mildly ignoring the snappish comment that the goddess made, glad that at least her apparent partner had not melted down into a puddle of distress. She could tell that despite Eris’ constant annoyance, she felt thankful for that fact as well. Huh. They had some mutual opinions between them at least – was that something to be happy about? Well, it was a time to look at the cup as half-full, so she should consider herself lucky.

Suddenly, as she walked towards the archway an irritated snap from the ghost sank into her ears, and Sorano turned to look at the slumped body. It was no time to be squeamish, she reasoned, and frowned slightly. “Okay, okay, I got it.” Compared to the goddess, she was a perfect mask of calmness, which was only natural, really. Still, she had to admit, she should have considered the body instead of simply leaving it laying there. Holding her hand flat up against the cold skin, the child, of aural descent let a mirror slowly expand out of the palm, swallowing the limp figure. As Eris’ body was absorbed into the reflected surface. Sorano let it shrink back down to a manageable size, and was about to give it to the ghost. Just in time, it was recalled that as a ghost, she could hold nothing, so this was a rather futile action. Making sure Eris could see her every move, she placed the glass inside an outer pocket of her bag, saying as she did so, “If for some reason I am unable to retrieve your body for you, all you have to do is find a way, or find someone who can smash the mirror.”

With this simple explanation, the letter mage would move ahead, this time with the spirit to step into the ballroom. Soon enough, three wolves slipped through the walls, slowly slinking towards them. Carefully, the letter mage’s hands instinctively moved downwards towards Kagayaku, her fingers curling around the cloth-wrapped handle. However, Eris’ next words caused her to pause, and consider for a moment. What could she do about the goddess’ situation? She didn’t know what magic Eris had either… If the healing spell had worked, then wouldn’t her offensive ones be usable as well? So why wasn’t the ghost using them? And while Sorano was someone who depended more on her mental strategies than physical prowess, she was a slow thinker. Normally being someone to depend on more strength-based allies to weaken down the enemy before she came up with a plan, it was honestly a situation where it seemed she would have to take the initiative. Think of it as training for leading a guild, huh?

Time to attempt to think on her feet now, to improvise. One member unable to physically attack, without much ability to magically attack either. An exceed, and herself, the person with apparently the most physical strength for a first. This would be hard… Eris could use healing magic, could fly, and apparently move through most objects. The wolves seemed to be in a somewhat similar state, only they must be able to attack physically somehow. Hoshi could fly, and use some magic as well. She had her arsenal of magic and weapons… Any that might work with Eris? Seeing as Solid Script could by no means incorporate the translucent figure, it would have to be her buckler shield or her reflection magic that came into play here. Eris did still possess an aura, which could be used to manipulate emotions. With reflections, what cold she do, even then? Nothing much for a ghost, that was for certain.

She paused slowly, wondering. Well, Eris certainly wouldn’t like being a distraction, but it was all that registered in her mind at the moment. “Dive towards the wolves’ legs, Eris! Try to keep free of their teeth!” If her estimations were correct, they would pass through each other, leaving them both confused and giving her an opening. Crouching, she leapt up, feeling Hoshi’s claws grasping onto the straps she had attached to her clothing. Hoping Eris had them distracted, she scribbled quick letters through the air, sending the boiling fluid downwards. While it was a fairly simple spell, the magical content should damage even ghosts a bit. She was careful to avoid Eris, however.

The moon goddess truly was in quite a peril. Incapable of even making sure her own body was taken care of and that it would eventually leave this place unharmed, she had to rely on the little witch that was with her. And while she did not even know this, it was actually good for her. A forced lesson in teamwork and communication if you will. And for now, she got her way as the girl turned around and was kind enough to lend her assistance in shape of growing mirror that swallowed the lifeless lump of cold meat and blood whole. It was mildly terrifying, watching something like that happen to your body. But at least the girl was save inside of that magical space for now, at least in that way. And it made the ghost Noheme sigh in relief. After the act was done and Sorano explained the fact that all that would be required was to break the mirror if things were to go awry, the pale fox girl would look to the side as almost a hint of red appeared on her cheeks. But ghosts were not exactly capable of really blushing without any skin or blood in the first place, so it all turned into a cold stare to the side. "Thanks." Or maybe a little bit more than just that, as the goddess probably uttered her very first thank you to someone outside of Joya. Progress! It felt good. Or maybe not all that good, as the ghost girl was slightly subjected to the humiliation of behind completely helpless and requiring another's help when she in fact was a mighty god that should be capable of doing everything by herself. Alas, this house said no to that, instead forcing her into this situation. For now, she would just flow behind her partner and follow her everywhere as they braved the mansion of horrors in search for the source of all this malice.

And as they were forced into rather unfortunate situation that required combat, both girls were more helpless than ever. At least that was a new experience for them, only they had to make sure it would not be their last as well. The moon goddess expected Sorano to be a great thinker with that calm and emotionless expression of hers, but it appeared that she was slightly wrong in that assumption. While the young girl certainly had at least some talent for tactics and such, she was slow acting. And that could end them in situation such as this, where every second mattered. Finally Noheme had her orders and while she wasn't all that happy with them, it would be at least something. And so, she quickly flew against the wolfs, only to find out a small flaw of their plan's design. Apparently she was in the same plain of existence as the hostile souls because she collided with the wolf just as much as Sorano would if she tried running into a wall. While that tumbled the poor beast, it also didn't exactly allow the fox girl to move any further and two of the wolfs managed to get past her partner's attack as a result. With their speed, they were quickly in distance close enough for them to attack as well. Was there anything she could do to save the young girl? Anything at all?! And the world almost slowed down as she realized something. A little, yet great thing that she did not try yet. And just as one of the wolves was about to bite down hard, a hard looking ball of magical energy slammed into it, as well as another into the second wolf. Just like that, the spirit animals were send flying in the same directions as the two balls split into four, each. And now, the eight beads were circling Sorano in protective manner as Noheme slowly made her way towards her. "Hah, I knew there was something..! I can help now!"

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
One would think that a simple mistake quickly made would have no impact on an emotionless person, wouldn’t they? That an emotionless girl would simply continue on without a second thought, understanding things couldn’t always be perfect. Well, it turns out that this was not the case, as Hoshi immediately felt when Eris ended up crashing head-first into the wolves, slowing everything down, and causing the other two wolves to quickly move forth. Instantly, the exceed could feel Sorano’s muscles freeze up beneath her, as the disappointment of failure resounded in some deep, hidden-away part of the child’s mind. Knowing that Sorano could be quite the perfectionist, it was no wonder that the shock of failure had hit some chord that even emotions couldn’t impact. All the exceed could do in situations such as these was to clasp Sorano’s shoulder even tighter, a show of encouragement. Besides, Eris wasn’t quite out of it yet! The Joyan’s aura flared in determination, concentration crossing her facial features. Ah! Another snap in the aura seemed to snap the letter mage back to her senses as well, the child swiping a quick sheet of mirror across her front as a brief hampering of the wolves before unleashing an actually effective spell.

However, it appeared that there would be no need of such actions, for a sudden ball of energy would fly from behind the child, slamming into the nearest wolf. Another sped towards them as well, the letter mage instinctively ducking her head as it slammed into the second wolf, dizzying them briefly and giving her time to recover. Looking up, Sorano would see that apparently Eris had found a way to operate her abilities, and was coming in for support. A glance was all that would have to suffice as a thank you for now, however, for there was much more to take care of. The orbs of energy would split into many separate ones, circling the letter mage as she touched the ground once more. Having a steady support for her legs centered her ethernanos better, and she would most certainly need her focus right now. “Solid Script: Stream.” As the whispered words left her mouth, the letter mage would scribble the letters through the air, watching the familiar flash of light and the spell materializing, A watery rope-like substance would wrap about her, lending her a sudden jolt of energy.

In one deft move, Sorano would pluck out a whip-like length of energy, eyes narrowing in upon her targets. She had Eris able to fight now, hm? Well, she wasn’t entirely incapable to improvising – who knew, perhaps she would improve her improve skills this way as well. She wasn’t always going to have a bunch of allies by her side to deal the initial blows, after all. Snapping it in an almost gentle movement, the coil of energy lashed out, snake-like towards the nearest wolf. It would wrap itself around the ghostly form, and due to its nature as a form of energy, tightened perfectly around the see-through torso as if the wolf was one of flesh and blood. After dealing its damage to the wretched spirit, the whip would fade away into soft blue scraps of light, leaving the original snake wrapped around Sorano. Her eyes snapped around the scene, mind fighting to figure out what next to do. Seeing as Eris seemed to be in perfect control over everything, she supposed she ought to find herself her own target to take care of, huh? Her hand would sink back into the coil around her, extracting another length of energetic rope.

“Watch out, Hoshi!” Warning the exceed of the airborne rope flying in her general direction, another wolf would be smacked in the snout as it charged up towards the two, trying to get itself a bite of the young guild master. As this one, too, faded away into the air, she had to seriously consider her remaining three ropes, knowing they had to be used wisely. Hopefully Eris didn’t need too much help at this point…

Battle was something that the moon goddess enjoyed greatly. She was from a tribe that lived in the heart of unforgiving jungle of Joya, place where predators were aplenty and food scarce. Though visitors from other nations would never really get that impression, as the capital was something else entirely. It was the smaller villages and groups of individuals that had these problems. It was an environment that would naturally rise warriors. Well, Noheme already lived for many centuries before she would enter this place and gain her first followers nad worshipers. But even those nineteen years along with a mortal body made out of flesh and blood were enough to give the girl new instincts to follow. But it was different right now. She was incapable of fighting for the most part, but she finally managed to activate her lineage power, use it to fight back. Was it because of that?

Or was it maybe because there was another mortal her, an ally to herself? She already had an experience with that too, as she lead many hunting groups into the bowels of the jungle in order to obtain food. But back then, she was the leader. Now she was nothing more than an asset for another brain, a tool meant for distraction. That was the role assigned to her by Sorano before she was able to actually fight back. But now that she could, things would be different! The goddess disliked being looked down on, even if she was in rather dire situation without her physical body now. She would show off her powers and claim victory for herself, showing other that she was still supreme fighter that they had to treat equally at least. That was the arrogance for gods for you. Gaining people that would worship you can be a bad thing in many different situations.

But at least it brought in a new spark of determination and confidence. As Sorano regain control over the situation, the eight orbs would leave her body and start rotating in circular formation behind Noheme's back as she levitated above the battlefield. She kinda wanted to take on two of the wolves from group of three just to prove her power, but since it looked like the girl got things, she just sighed and accepted her fate of slaying only one ghostly wolf. Sending one of the orbs crashing into the ground, she grabbed it's attention and smirked. "Can't even reach me up here, can you? You're nothing, not even a good warm-up!" All of the orbs suddenly crashed around the beast as they started changing shape into a half bubble that completely covered the creature. And with a snap of her fingers, the fox girl would let the bubble form several rather large spikes on the inside.

Effect of that was probably quite obvious as the little trap changed back into orbs, only leaving a bit of blue light that disappeared into nothingness. Seeing as this was the only useful ability she had right now, she would leave the orbs freely floating behind her back as she levitated over to her young partner. "Sorry about that, this power of mine was always kinda finicky. I was never really properly able to control it, so I forgot all about it. Oh well, I think we're good now!" She wasn't really mad for being used as a distraction at first, which was pretty surprising all things considered. Looking around, she swiftly turned back to the other girl and blinked few times. "So... any idea where we should go next? Because I'm very lost without the enhanced senses my physical body had..." Being honest again, she just kinda had to give up her leadership like that. It was a shame, but also necessary if they wanted to make any real progress without walking in circles for god knows how long. And no, she did not know.

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
If anyone ever asked Sorano how to be a great leader, or what were things to avoid during leadership at this moment, had she emotions? The letter mage would most certainly proclaim that leading with an immensely pounding headache was one of the worst things that one could possibly do in any situation. Because, naturally, that was exactly what she felt at the moment. What was up with her head today, after all? While it seemed that her attacks had been fairly successful, and the wolves had faded away into slicks of ectoplasm upon the formerly flawless drapes and carpeting, it didn’t feel like a success with this horrid headache. What was even more odd? The fact that the Solid Script: Stream hadn’t affected it even a bit. Being a spell with double effects, the coil of energy that wrapped about her body should have healed her of all minor ailments, and repaired major inflictions at least a bit. Yet… The headache, something normally considered a minor injury had only persisted in an even more demanding way afterwards. Was this one of those rare magical illnesses that got worse whenever one had a healing spell used upon themselves?

As the coil began to dim around her, formerly bright blue glow quieting to go into a dormant state, Sorano placed her head within her palm, feeling the strange throbbing sensation seem to thump against the cooler skin, as if she had some fever. It was a worrying situation, to say the very least. However, there was absolutely nothing she could do about it unless they got out of this place, so she might as well do something! Lifting her head again, the wearied mage gazed about her, vision blurring slightly. Suddenly, out of the corner of her eyes, something shifted, glowing a malicious shade of green. A hiss leapt from her mouth, the letter mage’s body stiffening as she pulled out Kagayaku, bracing for an attack.

But then… She blinked, and her vision cleared again, revealing a triumphant Eris, flashing a happy grin at the child about how she had remembered one of her abilities she could use to help offensively. Questioningly, she would remark about what they were to do next. Sorano, however, was still in a state of confusion, wondering what had happened back there. She had sincerely thought that the Joyan was an enemy…? This was seriously out of character for the normally stoic and controlled Ace, and now Guild Master of Fairy Tail, something that wasn’t supposed to happen since…all those years ago. Were her symptoms returning? Her eyes would widen in shock, memories slipping sneakily through the nooks and crannies of her mind.

“Oi, oi, Sorano! Snap out of it!” Brought back to reality by a concerned Hoshi, lifting up her chin to stare in in the eyes. Seeing the shock and horror displayed in her companion’s eyes, however, shocked the exceed, causing her to immediately flit a distance away. This wasn’t something that was supposed to happen! Sorano…showing emotion? “H-hey, Sorano? Are you okay?” The child stared at the exceed in the same state for a moment, then snapped up straight again. “A-ah!” Giving her head a good shake, she steeled herself against these worries, slamming the floodgates of her mind down again. No! It was NOT going to happen again! Never! Diamond sheen returned comfortingly to her friend’s eyes, Hoshi let the subject go for now, turning to the discussion. “Well… From what we’ve seen so far in this place, it seems there is probably something at the core of this, someone who’s made this into a trap for some reason.”

Remembering back to their experiences in a transboze’s labyrinth, both girls had to admit that it was a similar situation. “All we have to do is somehow find this source, this center of the labyrinth, and there should be a way to get out.” Having already tried to use her aural senses to discover where this entity’s location was, she would continue, slightly subdued, “I cannot seem to utilize my usual sensory abilities here, so it seems we’ll have to either lure it out, or use the old-fashioned way of exploring.”

Noheme was proud of her victory and she demanded attention? Or at least maybe few complimentary words? She received absolutely nothing which left her in rather annoyed state, floating above the ground as she pouted at the young girl. But something was wrong. Very wrong and she herself could feel it even from this distance by simply looking at the female in front of her. Her expression and posture, as well as actions and reactions. They were quite different from what she displayed before. And while it was rather soon to be saying that the moon goddess knew her partner for this job, she got enough to judge quite a bit of her character. That was what made this situation rather worrying. Even her companion appeared to be quite distressed by this whole ordeal, which made the ghostly fox girl float closer. And once again, her newly gained formed proved to be nothing but troublesome and in the way. Under normal circumstances, she would force the girl in front of her to remain standing still, checking her for anything that would appear wrong. Not that she was a doctor of any description, but she was highly ranked mage and a goddess on top of that! Maybe something like that would be enough for her to spot a magical mark or anything else that could be messing Sorano up. Unfortunately, she wasn't quite capable of that. And she wasn't all that interested in just floating about, trying to take a good look at that young body of hers in such a weird manner. Sighing, she would rub her head for a good moment before looking around. It looked like there was nothing at all that would help them in locating the enemy who was playing the master puppeteer. Even the moon goddess lost most of her enhances senses with this new form.

"Well, that's quite problematic, isn't it? But are you sure you're feeling up to it? I know my presence inspires others to do everything to the best of their abilities, but I'd prefer you don't strain yourself too much. Just looking at you makes me feel tired myself." Whatever the problem was, it was not small. And Sorano probably deserved to know that she did not look all that swell to outsiders as well. Feeling one way was something. But looking ill was something completely else and perhaps even more problematic. Suddenly, more howls and wails of agony echoed through the room and halls of this place. They haven't even left the ballroom yet! And more enemies were already catching up to them. So far, only two humanoid figures walked through the walls. They were slow, limping towards them with bags over their heads and nooses around their next. Talk about creepy and disturbing. All eight orbs started floating around the two girls again in defensive manner as Noheme turned to her partner with concerned look. "I can probably take them if you can't. I don't care what you decide to do, just make sure you're still by your senses  and standing by the end of it. While you can carry my body out of here, I'm not sure I could carry yours." It was actually a legitimate concern. And while it sounded brutal, the fox girl only meant carrying out the girl's body in case she would faint or something. No one would be dying today, no on her watch! Especially not someone as cute as that, that was for sure! But while she said that she can probably take them, those two were only the first ones. She had a feeling several more would soon float in through the walls, possibly looking even more terrible and creepy that these ones. It was almost hard to imagine, but this place was good at surprising them so far. At least one thing that it has going on for it, it seems...

Yeah, just looking at the poor girl was enough to see everything rather clearly. Noheme was no doctor, but even to her it was obvious that Sorano wasn't exactly at her best, not by a long shot. Her face, her whole body and even her magical energy. Everything felt so... tired and pushed to the very limit of what is possible. But at the same time, it didn't even look like the girl was pushing herself like that either. Was this whole place really having such a bad effect on her? It was certainly possible, but hard to confirm with that stone mask she was wearing over her actual feelings. People like that... the moon goddess wouldn't say she hated them. But she certainly disliked that behaviour, as it made them hard to approach and protect. If there was no way of telling what the small letter mage was thinking, how could possibly someone else rush to her aid effectively if things were to go south? That was why she disliked people such as this. Although maybe that was the wrong word to use there. Being irritated by them was more like it. Somehow, the fox girl came to like this one, even though they barely knew one another. Maybe it was precisely because of that mask that she kinda wanted to get closer to her, help her. Was it foolish? Was it selfish? Was it simply ridiculous? Most likely yes, which was exactly why she wanted to do it. The goddess was always up for a challenge and making a friend like that would be for the very first time too. But not only would it be a feat to accomplish this, it could also serve as the girl's entrance to this brand new world of mortals where different bonds were always forged between individuals. Something that a goddess could not yet understand, yet wished to. A learning process that many would think completely natural and already finished at that age. But they did not know from where the goddess came, a place of great loneliness where she existed completely and utterly alone.

Sorano agreed that she probably needed at least some rest and wished for Noheme to take on the first two ghastly figures that appeared. They were unsightly and slowly shambling towards them, so they would probably not really pose a problem, even for a magician that currently couldn't use most of her powers. A smile grew wide on her face as she winged at the young girl and turned to face the enemies, one of the black balls taking a form of a dark long sword in the ghostly fox girl's hand. "Alright! You stay back and holler if anything goes wrong, okay? I'll make quick work of them!" Saying those words while filled with confidence, she would start charging at the enemies with her floating figure, the rest of her spell in form of seven more orbs following. The slowly moving ghost was no match for the girl that focused on speed as she zoomed past one, her weapon digging deep into it and slicing it's torse apart in one expert motion. It would most definitely be a fatal wound if performed on a regular human being, but this one just kinda stumbled to the side and turned around as if it was nothing at all. Clicking her tongue, the goddess would turn her gaze to the other one, only to find him swiping with his hands at her, managing to avoid them only narrowly and performing a counter strike that managed to separate one of those hands from the body. Though once again, she was merely rewarded by a bit of moaning and no real sign that these guys were anywhere near defeat. She probably had to change her strategy around a bit. As much as she liked the sword she was holding right now, it was not very effective. She had to hit them with everything she got in one quick motion and destroy them completely as quickly as possible to ensure victory. She was only against two weaklings, so prolonging this any further would be simply embarrassing.

The sword flew out of her hand and formed into a ball shape once more, joining the rest as she the girl scanned the two ghosts who were slowly walking towards her. With a sigh, all of the orbs around her formed into one again, though it stopped floating and instead landed in the goddess' hand. And with a smirk, she would target one of the unfortunate souls. "Alright, time to return back to your eternal slumber!" With those sharp words, she charged back at them, burying the orb into one's chest as a weapon and only watching as it slowly dissolved into the enemy, quickly forming into multiple strikes that tore the ghost apart from inside. Something like that would probably be rather gruesome if they were actually made out of flesh and blood, but like this, only strange ethereal materials would float in the air and slowly dissipate. But it was not the time to rest yet, as the other one was still around. Though she planned to deal with him just as quick, getting behind the mildly transparent body and grabbing the noose like it was some kind of lasso, essentially spinning the ghost in the air and then tossing it into the wall where her trusty orbs transformed into spikes and finished him off. Looking back at her ally, she realized that the young girl was in quite the peril right now, as she faced more enemies than she could possibly handle. So if Sorano was to look at the Banshy again, she would probably see a black arrow pierce it's head as Noheme transformed her ability into another weapon, a bow. Though the fox girl no longer stood in the place from where she fired. Instead, she landed right next to the young guildmaster, the remaining orbs spinning around then and forming a small protected space for the two of them. "Are you alright? If you're hurt, I should still be able to use my healing spell."

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
Ah... Sorano forced a wan smile upon her face, the mere movement of her mouth feeling unnatural upon her stony demeanor. It had always been touching, in a way, the kindness of mages she came in contact with. Whether it was a guildmate close to herself, or simply some stranger such as Eris, there was something soft, something kind to their actions. She'd built her way up on this particular softness that so many sentient beings held, and it did give off a guilty pang at times. Thus, she steeled herself, sending a mental message that the Joyan's kindness would be used no more than was necessary. Turning her gaze from the pulsing emotions of the woman's aura, Sorano had more worries to deal with than how a partner felt about her at the moment. The four ghostly children and ever-caterwauling female were dominating her focus, and rightly so.

From her peripheral vision, it was quite evident that Eris needed no support at all; in fact, she seemed quite accustomed to solo battle. Was she lonelier than Sorano had assumed at first? The thought was swiftly discarded, for one of the children snarled, leaping towards her as a feral beast might. Claws of ectoplasm hardened into deadly weapons, slashing and tearing the front of the child's shirt while she struggled to fall back. Reacting with instinct instead of common sense, a sudden spherical barrier was erected in defense, shoving away the spirit at the last second in a pulsing burst of transparent material. Even as Sorano snapped out her fingers in a quick counterattack, a black arrow lodged itself within the blackend heart of the banshee. The other female would swoop down to defend the younger, a protective circle of orbs surrounding them.

The letter mage's hastily casted spell formed a sharp, metal-tipped calligraphy pen that lodged itself briefly in the ghostly form before dropping out cleanly. A bad choice, it would seem. Another pulse of agony suddenly ripped through her head when this happened, as the ethereal youth turned a disdainful eye towards the fairy. "Hey, Sorano! You're in the midst of a battle now!" Hoshi's frantic plea only caused the target to turn and stare woodenly at the exceed, a look of despair on that usually peaceful face. "H-huh?" Sorano ignored the frantic animal, instead turning her attention towards the translucent form of Eris and her powerful orbs. Kagayaku was slipped into a waiting palm, the shadow behind dulled eyes watching eagerly - the situation was a game had played many times before.

In a practiced movement, polished blade was directed at the goddess, then flew from the letter mage's grip and through her ethereal form, piercing an orb, and landing solidly within the ornate wood carvings of the wall behind. "Keke! Your aim's not bad, girl~!" A soft whisper slipped unnoticed into Sorano's ear, and she was frozen, for once again, her mind and emotions were filleted, laid out for a hungry table of eager diners. Fear flickered, a jack-o'-lantern leery on this canvas until the familiar relief of water dabbled away at the artificial edges in the voice of Hoshi. "Sorano, Sorano! What's happened? Is something wrong?!? W-why did you do that?"

And the shadow, the unseen painter was gone, leaving behind only a very broken, lonely girl. Unseeing eyes landed upon the knife, and made the simple connection, the thick black line to her own hand. Muscles and tendons would fail as her mind went into protective shut-down, and the small, limp form was no more than a piddling little spot on the ground. Hacked she was - safe haven, home sweet home invaded. Instead, a trail of something spiritual in itself rose from the body, sparkling a blinding white light, the essence of purity. Here, the presence and prowess of her heritage showed itself, a perfectly emotionless representative of Sorano's mind. In self-defense, see had removed her own mind and manifested for it a new body.

It spoke. "My body has been taken over by some sort of spirit, I believe. It seems to have been what caused the headaches and uncertainty of movernt, so I've taken on this state for now. I can still battle, but it will be in a different way then before. With hope... We can get out before my mind cannot retain this form any longer." With that, the aural figure would turn, sending a beam of energy at the child, finishing it off.

Truly, this place did have some rather strange vibe to it from the very moment they entered. But what exactly was it? Noheme wasn't able to properly place her finger on it this entire time and thus found it not worth mentioning in the slightest, perhaps even somewhat dismissing it as her own imagination. But was that really just that? Nothing more than an illusion of her own conscious? Well, one could never really know in a cursed house that was impossible to leave until the source of said curse was diminished. And as that continued, the fights got more and more intense as their opponents grew stranger and stranger. Sorano was surely conflicted to at least some degree, having to attack small children no matter how ghastly their figures appeared.

It was why the goddess in disguise rushed to her help in the best possible manner she knew. But to what effect? Even if her ethereal form rested next to the young guild master, would it really change anything at this point. The fight was escalating in a way she did not expect after all, an unseen betrayal soon to take place. The floating orbs were something that could not even be properly considered magic and indeed, they could even conquer a whole set of spells if used properly. But that did not make them invincible in any way, as the foreign object clearly pierced one of them, pinning it to a wall. Something quite sudden and attention grasping, forcing the fox girl's head to turn in rapid and uncertain motion. She had no idea what to expect of her partner who right now wasn't quite herself. What she saw was a seemingly soulless lump of flesh that moved as someone's puppet, the spark of life behind her eyes snuffed out. No matter how convincing Sorano's mask would be, something like that could never be hidden.

With a click of a tongue, the goddess had to think. There were still other opponents after all, ready to attack this trio of theirs. She had to deal with them as quickly as possible, for her own sake and for Sorano's. Thankfully, the young girl seemed to stop her sudden assault which made things much easier. Clapping her hands together with force, Noheme would suddenly produce a great wave of magical power, one that was quite unsavory to say the least. As much as people would not like it, she was a goddess of both light and the dark. And her lineage spoke for itself, bathing in the inky Abyss of black. That was the origin of her floating orbs, an amalgam of raw power held together by something called "Miracle energy".

A concept that existed alongside ehternano and power that would feed curses of demons. Power that the girl inherited from the one who gave her the gift of life... the power of so-called miracle demons. Something that was a bit hard to explain in an easily digestive manner. Of course, now was not the time to explain something like that anyway. The seven remaining orbs resonated with this wave of energy, producing something akin to a black sparks all around them. And with a newly found grin on her face, the fox girl would throw her hand into the air, all of the orbs sweeping by her in a speed that manged to force the dust into the air, all of them crashing into the child spirits as the beads transformed into spikes, impaling them all in an onslaught devoid of mercy. But it was necessary if they wished to progress properly and with their lives intact. The air calmed itself soon after, only leaving one of the child spirits left standing. Though it was soon finished as well by Sorano's newly found form. Something that the goddess actually recognized.

"You're... I see, so you're of that descend, huh? Once had a run-in with someone with powers like that, though their soul form was much darker than yours. Seems like we're both kinda ghosts now... think you can make it? I want to find whoever did that to you as well, punch their face in already!"

No doubt this was the wrong way of thinking about it, but Noheme started seeing this young lass as one of her own subjects for some reason. And while she was one wild goddess that generally did not much care for those around her, she was benevolent and protective of those that served her to some degree. And right now, she was about ready to tear apart the being that managed to force the young lady's magical power out of her body to form such an image. The problem was, they still didn't quite know where to go to accomplish something like that. The mansion which was a maze on it's own... the situation was starting to get more and more complicated it seemed.

    GRACE UNDER FIRE
As Sorano began to adjust to her spiritual form, Hoshi hurriedly rushing to her human body to protect it, Eris would ponder briefly as the ghastly children rushed at her, then, suddenly pull out a great rush of energy and power. Feeling it even stronger than before in this aural form of hers, the letter mage stumbled slightly back from the wave, shocked by the sheer intensity of it, and quickly adjusted, hardening the spiritual shell. She couldn’t be fazed at this moment, it was too important a battle if she wished to escape. It seemed though, that she didn’t really have the need to hurry too much at the moment, for Eris’ power shot out in multiple darkened orbs of power, sweeping through the ghostly children in deadly waves. Raising glowing eyebrows in respect for the strength of the Joyan’s abilities, she blinked away the afterglow, watching the spikes impale themselves into the ectoplasm, the luminescent stuff dripping eerily onto the cold floor. She locked her emotions away carefully at the sight of the small bodies cracking apart, spilling their green innards onto the ground, watching on with not a shred of emotion on her face. The goddess then turned triumphantly, watching the spirit letter mage easily finish off the last child.

Recognition falling into place in her aura, she would comment that she knew of someone in the past with a similar lineage. Raising an eyebrow in interest, she listened on as she was told of how the user’s aura was far darker. Knowing enough about this certain ability, that would mean that the other user was likely a user of darker magics, with darker morals and intentions than herself. But then again, perhaps the purity of her aura also had to do with how closed off her emotions were. While emotions were not as large a factor in determining the appearance of these spirit warrior forms as intentions and morals were, they did affect it somewhat. After all, a person lacking in emotions also lacked in morals, and a complete lack of beliefs meant that the aura likely had little idea of how to display itself, ending up in the white color of hers. In response to the kemonomimis question, Sorano nodded with ease. “Hoshi can support my physical body well enough – she’ll take me around. My spiritual body can withstand basically anything, so it’s certainly not an issue. Don’t worry too much, this’ll last for long enough,” she answered, moving forward already.

Glancing briefly at the woman’s aura to check her state of mental wellbeing, she was surprised to see a fierce urge to protect her, a combination of affection and anger. Was it…towards her? It was a strange feeling, seeing such an utter stranger displaying such emotions. Though her teammates had exhibited this emotion more than often enough, it still discomforted her to see it. She knew she should be thankful for it, but knew that, without emotions, it was more like preying off them in a manner. It made her insides twinge slightly at how unnatural the lack of emotion she had was, but she knew best of all that she couldn’t possibly let go of these barriers. A slight shudder went through her body, but soon enough she was back on track. She moved after the kemonomimi, heading up the grand staircase when the world just… flipped.

Her senses in disarray, she gasped for a moment before reality snapped back into focus, eyes adjusting to the dim lighting once more. That was…odd. She shrugged, then began walking up the staircase again, Hoshi following close behind, no sound besides that of her footsteps and the two fairies’ heavy breaths. Nothing else.

Walking through the hallway at the top, she paused in front of each door, peeking in briefly in fear of anything appearing. Approaching the bathroom, she peeked into the ornately decorated space, admiring the carvings on the sink and bathtub, wondering how rich the former residents must have been. Peeking over the absurdly high rim of the tub, she jerked back, banging her head on the toilet. As Sorano rubbed her sore cranium, her eyes widened as a rotten hand reached up over the edge of the white rim, the grotesque face peeking over the edge. Bloated and purple, it was obvious that the person had drowned in this very space. Instinct taking over briefly, Sorano’s hands produced a stream of letters, electricity crackling thorugh the space in erratic bursts as lightning appeared above the tub. It spread through the water, jolting over the gross form of the spirit before fading away into space, remaining jolts moving a few times as the body shook, bits of ectoplasm falling off the form.

Grimacing at the sight, the letter mage sent a quick stream of black oil into the water, the electricity lighting it in flames as the spirit slowly shriveled to ashes under the intense magical heat. A breath of relief would be released from her mouth, until the tiled walls shuddered, revealing the forms of two other ghosts, seeming to have been walled in behind the pretty decoration. “A-ahh, Sorano, watch out!” the exceed shrieked, unable to move fast enough to help the aural form.

Truly, this place was starting to annoy the goddess greatly. When she approached this place, she was expecting an adventure of a completely different type than this. They had faced so many ghosts at this point, that it became completely normal to the Joyan girl. And to anyone other than her would be probably a very alarming thing. Her ghastly form would sigh as she continued up the stairs and listened to the girl’s reassurance. She said she was fine and the vixen planned on believing her. And if she was not fine, well… then she would just have to help her out a bit again. No big deal.

In the end, it was Noheme here. A fox girl that was often filled with lust for the feminine gender. Sorano could consider herself lucky, as if she was a male, she would probably not receive this much support from her partner on this job. The only shame was that she realized this situation and the fact that the other girl seemed to hide her emotions away meant that the two of them would not end up in the same bed tonight after all was said and done. Something that made the ghostly girl lose a fair bit of motivation, as silly as that was.

Reaching what she assumed to be the second floor, they were faced yet with another set of rooms that would lead to nothing all too important. Most of the places completely empty and devoid of any signs of life or unlife, the goddess started questioning if they by any chance managed to purge all the ghosts present here. Probably not, but at least they were not hesitant to come after them. And that was nice enough for now. The less annoying ghosts in the way, the better. She had no idea how many more fights she could take before snapping.

She and Sorano separated for a bit, as the younger female seemed to have gone and started exploring another one of the room. A bathroom, that was. And seeing how Noheme found absolutely nothing aside from more fancy furnishings and a royal-sized bed that she tried to jump on but just phased through it, she decided to accompany the small guild master again. And just in time, as one would have it. Hearing the exceed’s cry for help, albeit it wasn’t asking for help directly, she would rush over. And in an instant, the two ghosts would fly to the side and through the walls.

Ghaa, so annoying! Why did I not think of this before?!” Sorano could see that her companion’s form was… different, to say the least. The moment they entered this place, her soul would separate from her physical body. And ever since then, the vixen complained about being unable to use proper physical attacks. But on her way to the girl’s rescue, she realized something rather dumb. She was able to transform and mold those floating balls of hers as much as she wanted. So what exactly was it that she needed to do?

Just mold them in such a way where they would surround her entire body and take on a shape of full-body armor. Or in this case, it appeared more like a very skin-tight wetsuit, for some reason. The point was - if the balls could affect enemies, then doing this would give her a physical form of sorts again! And even further beyond that, it meant that she could use some of her spells that she was unable to use before. “This whole house is so annoying… hey, Sorano. I feel like I saved you a fair bit of times now. You better at least give me a kiss as a reward once we’re out!

For some reason, she looked very mad when she shouted that as her hands suddenly became coated with a black substance that radiated power. The ghosts would charge from the walls where they were flung before and try to attack the goddess but to no avail. A pitch-black chain of magical energy would shoot out of the vixen’s hand and coil around both of the ghosts in a big circle. Jumping above its height, she just tugged on it and the two ethereal beings were forced together and restrained, only for the fox girl to land on their hands and deliver a powerful kick to their faces.

At that moment, her leg was also coated with the magical energy. And it made her attack forceful enough to send the poor undead creatures flying way out into the hallway and dissipate. “Okay… not that I have my powers back, we can get this show on the road. C’mon, let’s find whoever is behind this curse and kick their arse already!” She would turn toward Sorano and the exceed and beckon them with her hand. Though every time she gestured toward Sorano like this, her reactions were much softer, as if she was greatly restraining herself in order to be nice to the other female.

Bolting out of the bathroom, there was suddenly something that the goddess felt. A flicker of energy that was above magic, but below godhood. Nodding to herself, she would start sprinting in its direction down the hallway. Hopefully, the guild master was able to follow. Taking one left, then right, the two lefts and suddenly she found herself in front of yet another doorway. But these doors were completely different from everything before. Almost as if it was meant to lead to a king’s personal room. Pushing against it with her newly found physical form, Noheme opened the doors and entered.

Just as the doors would suggest, they entered some sort of a throne room. It was giant with plenty of space for a proper boss fight. And on the other end of the red carpet was a golden chair with what appeared to be a child sitting on it. A young girl with long black hair and crimson red eyes. “There it is. The Queen of this house, are ya? I don’t feel all too excited about beating up a kid, but you’re not going to give me a choice, huh?” To that, the ghostly child named Silica just laughed.
