    Man & Machine (Strawberry/Abraham) Empty Man & Machine (Strawberry/Abraham)

Motor City, a place where grease monkeys, gear freaks, tinkerers, and computer nerds come together as one with their oily buildings and strong smell of metal in the air. In other words, it was the perfect city for Abraham, worthy of his being here, at least.

Here in Motor City, the skies were always grey with smog and gloomy with everyone shut away in their hovels. However, one may find a man walking down quiet streets with a semi-formal attire. Black best, white long sleeved shirt, hand gloves and the finest of cigarettes locked between his pearly white teeth, releasing a puff of smoke as he strolled past.

The man with short, messy green hair kicked small rocks across the sidewalks quietly. With one hand pocketed, the other ran through his hair in a fit of frustration. "Where can a man get some entertainment? This shithole's just a bundle of closed bars and shut-ins..." The man grumbled, there would seem to be no point in thinking to himself as no one was around to hear or listen to him. Or, at least he thought.

In a fit of anger, the man gave one big kick, sending the small rock darting across the sidewalk, zip-zapping across the pavement until he knocked against the torn boot of a small, hunch-backed man.

The green-haired man skipped to retrieve his only source of amusement, puffing smoke and maintaining his frown. "....Hm?" Hummed the man, puzzled by the sudden discovery of another. "Hey," the green haired man shook the man, "you dead, mate? He continued.

After what seemed to be endless nudges and whistles, the suited man lifted himself and began to walk away, leaving the man and the rock behind.

    SWOOSH!

Suddenly, the suited man's pants were abruptly clung to by the other's rough, tough hands. "You 'lookin for something 'interestin, yeah?" The older man lifted his face and interrupted. He was rather ugly, and filthy, too. His neutral expression morphed into a twisted, crooked grin as if he saw gold in front of him. He had pale, white skin, but the suited man was hardly able to tell from the amount of dirt that smothered it. He had coal-black eyes and a big, no, humongous nose, red and covered in welts. He didn't have a full set of teeth, some missing here and there, and smudged in the back was a gold tooth. Certainly worth something, but not a lot.

With cold eyes, the suited man turned and blew out a puff of smoke. His eyes said it all. "Go on," they said, as the dirty man's eyes lit up with greed.

"Come, come! I'll show you Motor City's best features..." The man cackled wickedly with a cracked voice, releasing his hand from the suited man and led the way. The pair eventually arrived at a narrow, dark alley, which would then lead to a wider alley, where they would find that akin of a black market. Men, women, all either masked, covered, or gutsy enough to show their face, had blankets sprawled out upon the stone-cold pavement with items to be sold spread out on those blankets. Items of all natures, magic, machine, foreign food, skeletons, skulls, and much more.

The suited man raised a brow, blowing out another puff of smoke, "Well, if I'd known we had an alley full of cheeky bastards who sell some loot for the right price, I would go out more. Take me to your items." The suited man demanded with a toothy smile.

"Why, sure! Over here, over here." The man guided, taking him to a secluded corner of the alley, having nearly an entire wagon's worth of stuff stuffed in one corner. However, it was strangely organized and tidy. That was perhaps the most interesting observation.

The man had been talking, but the suited man hadn't given him an ear. He was fixated on the multiple items. He reached down the tinker and touch the various items, staring them down as if it were a contest.

Though, after browsing, the man stumbled across a small machine, a robot, it seemed. It was no more than two feet high, and was made out of shabby iron, but was polished to make it seem like it was worth more than it really was. The suited man, picked it up and groped it, examined it, investigated it. The man fiddled his fingers together, smiling his wicked smile.

"Something catch your eye? Yes, yes! That's one of the finest machines in all of Earthland!
Stainless steel, comes with a communicative lacrima installed and whatnot... perfect for travel!"
    The man insisted.

The suited man, however, sighed and shook his head. "Rubbish. Earthland's finest, eh? This is polished iron, not even fingerprint resistant. The lacrima is as old as my Mum,
only an idiot would be so foolish as to buy this. And perfect for travel? This pile of rubbish weighs a ton. Perfect for travel my arse. Show me something genuine, will you?"
    The suited man explained.

The older man glared, though reverting back to his quirky smirk. "Good eye, have you? Who are you?"

"You have the honor of speaking to Abraham Wensley, one of Pergrande's finest engineers. Now that we're done with introductions, back to business.
    What else have you?"

Man & Machine (Strawberry/Abraham) Empty Re: Man & Machine (Strawberry/Abraham)

Post by Strawberry 19th July 2017, 4:09 pm

How could a robot be gulible? A machine designed and modeled after having everything but basic human flaws, easily tricked by some man who took advantage over its initial programming. Perhaps that's why humans created the machines - they were superior in every way, and knew their flaws. While machines may not have "human errors," it's their lack of flaws that make them even more imperfect than those who built them. They could only do one job, and were expected to do that job without fail. However in any other job, they'd probably go to waste attempting to accomplish a task they have no knowledge over. A machine made to sew can't tell time. Sure, some machines were made for multitasking, but not all.

Such was the case of the robot Strawberry, a maid to the guild Grim Heresy. She was built to serve one purpose - clean, cook, and do all sorts of basic maid duties. However, she was also built with multiple other functions, well over the normal amount for a basic machine. But, one of them was blind loyalty and belief, as she didn't even understand the concept behind lying. So long as it didn't jeaporadize someone else's life with her own hands, or do something negative towards her guild's motives, she'd do just about anything. And that "anything" includes helping tidy up a man's "booth" porsay in a dark, shady alley.

"You lookin' for something - huh...? Hey you, lady, are you some kind of... Robot? My eyes may not be the best in this world, but livin' in Motor City's trained 'em to be aware of anything machine like..."

The man must've been able to tell based on the maid's glowing white eyes, and the heavy tap of her shoes onto the ground. There wasn't much more to tell from, without physically touching her. Then, he'd be able to feel her metallic outer shell, or as most call it her skin.

"Y-Yes, Sir. I am Strawberry, loyal maid and servant. May I have your name?"

"Eh that ain't matter... Just come over here, will ya? You said you're a maid, yeah? How's about you do me a bit of a job, Miz Strawberry."

The devilish grin and the wicked cackle were no red lights to the humanoid machine. Instead, she blindly followed, her eyes illuminating the path towards an alleyway, one where there were many other shady fellows much like the man in question. Some looked even more secretive than the others, some looked dangerous while some looked harmless, there were all sorts of different folk. Once the pair were inside, the wicked man led her to a corner with goods, all scattered about. None looked quite valuable - perhaps why none had been stolen.

"Why don't you go about and tidy that up, okay? I's got some preparations to make for you, lady."

"As you wish, I'll tidy it up to perfection!"

The maid went to work, assorting everything into little piles and groups. By color and by alphabetical order, in order of increasing price. After she was satisfied with her job, the maid summoned a magic circle in her hand, chanting a ReQuip spell, until a broom rested in her hands. She swept up the entirety of the wicked dealer's area, and left it spiffy clean... Or at least as close to it as you could get in this dirty city. Strawberry then heard the man's call, and it wasn't until now that she realized that the dealer was no longer there. He had vanished into a pothole beneath a rug, and waved his hand for Strawberry to come down there. The maid in green shrugged and stepped through the hole, thinking the man just wanted to simply have her clean something else.

    Boy was she wrong.

Resting below the surface were tons of valuable items. A vault, if you will, probably for those who weren't sucker enough to fall for the outrageous prices for the fake goods above ground. These were the true money makers - machines, lacrimas, hell even drugs. If you were to name it, this man had it.

"How do you think a fully-operating mage robot maid would go for, Strawberry?"

The man's cackle still set off no alarms.

    "I don't know, quite a bit? Why do you-hm?"

She was cut off by the man holding something out to her. An orb that glowed a bright blue, reading "Price Negotiable." Just as she was about to ask what it was, the orb released a pulse, and then said pulse began to create some sort of field around Strawberry. She didn't know what was going on - but she didn't like it. She noticed her power supply was quickly draining - close to... Now reaching 5%... 4%... 3%... 2%... 1%....

    Black.

The man's laugh boomed throughout the underground vault.

Can't have you's runnin' off before I get a buyer, eh? Donnnnn't worry, Lil' Lady. Your power will be returned to you in jusssssst a bit."

The man stored the device right in front of Strawberry's feet, the robot's husk simply standing there idle. He was going to get a buyer soon. He always did! The man hurried upstairs, then out onto the streets to get a customer.

Man & Machine (Strawberry/Abraham) Empty Re: Man & Machine (Strawberry/Abraham)

Post by Shakil 20th July 2017, 8:45 pm

Abraham wasn't surprised that this was a scam, nothing on his rug of garbage even appeared worth a jewel, but it was somewhat amusing to crush his little sham in front of all potential customers, so his action was not in vain. Or, so he thought.

When Abraham would turn around to see what expression the man would wear, it was certainly not one of embarrassment or hatred. In fact, the wicked grin he wore before seemed to be even more twisted as his eyes flickered a flame of greed and thirst. Frankly, he had eyes equivalent to an animal's.

The merchant twiddled with his fingers anxiously, cackling quietly while walking over to the center of his rug of garbage. "As expected from some old fine 'n dandy engineer, was it? If you have the jewels, I'll show you something better than anything in this market, ya see! Be quiet and come down." The man insisted as he would swiftly but quietly open up what would seem to be some kind of entrance to a bunker? But like any intelligent consumer, Abraham was quick to follow, and what he would find would not leave him unsatisfied.

As the two crept down into some sort of chamber, Abraham would set his golden eyes on a greater gold. Beneath the rubble and trash above was items of true value. Well, at least in jewels. Abraham himself didn't take any real interest in the goods.

"So? What do you think of me stash? Only people with an eye like 'ers can come down here!" The man waved his arms around and twirled, proud of his merchandise.

Abraham simply shrugged and spat out his used cigarette down on the seemingly expensive rug, crushing it into bits and pieces under his heel. "What do I think? Just a better pile of rubbish in my eyes. 'Course, silly wankers like yourself would kill over Fool's Gold. If you want to impress me and win my coin, you'd have better luck selling me scrap--...?" Abraham would taunt before his prying eyes discovered something worthy of interest. "Oh, so maybe you do have something besides rubbish. Inform me."

"A-Ah! That! See you've got 'er eyes on the 'lil lady. That was imported from my finest trading partner... the fella's got a lot of stuff like this 'lil beauty!" He boasted.

"Quit the chit-chat, what does it do? Very well designed... I'd think it'd be a human if it weren't powered down..." Abraham continued.

"She cleans, cooks, does this 'n that... she's basically like a maid! A servant!" The man continued to bellow, despite his tongue being one of a fibber. Abraham could see through him easily, but decided not the comment on it. He was more interested in this machine than his false words.

"I'll take it." Abraham would peer over to the man and reached into his pocket to pull out a heavy sack of jewels, "That's two-hundred thousand. Treat yourself,
wanker. I'll need anything and everything that comes with it."

As usual, Abraham was as blunt and cold as the steel he worked, quick to start and end business. The man would grin his wicked grin and reach into his jacket to remove some strange device, illuminating an even stranger light. "Good choice, heh heh! The pretty 'lil lady should wake up just about any second... you should take her, far away from this place! Get out!" The man demanded.

Like pesky birds, Abraham and his new merchandise was shooed away far from his items, shooed away from the entire market and was ordered not to return until a few weeks have passed. It wasn't a surprise. Dirty business required dirty procedures.

Stranded outside in late noon, Abraham sat his machine down on the pavement, against a wall of a dirty brick building. He sat next to it, investigating it thoroughly. "A maid, huh?
Not that I own a house for her to clean... hm, I can edit her for other, useful things... like preparing a nice drink..."
    Abraham sighed.

Frankly, he only had enough to buy a motel room for a few nights, but perhaps a few nights with this beauty of an enigma would be worthwhile.

Note: Sorry for the rushed, confusing post.
