Morning broke on the castle on the eastern sea overlooking a small port. Several days ago, Kaori had took a notice from the advertisement board that was deemed too dangerous for her by the clan of magic users. Because of that, she was obligated to take up a supervisor, someone to babysit her and make sure she didn't accidentally give herself a paper cut while cleaning house with some nutty cult. The notice had given very few details regarding the task at hand. It mentioned that they were holed up in the basement of some place called the Oak Inn, located in the Village of Oak Trees.

Having finished her standard wake up routine, Kaori had made her way down to the guild's armory. There were many tools there that she'd decided to begin utilizing, things that made fighting enemies easier and could provide to make excellent traps. She had a plan for taking down the cult and would need to make use of the destructive capabilities of the large explosive packs. In there, Kaori had grabbed a trio of smoke balls to help her escape should she need to. A quad of items that created a painfully bright light would make for excellent use for moments when the masked warrior needed to disable a target. A pair of electrically charged items would make capturing the head of the house easy, that way Kaori can see his true face before putting him to justice. Six rectangular prisms with knobs at the top were some type of minor explosive, and then there were two larger versions as well. The small things she tucked in different slots in her belt that each had a metal clasp at the top to keep them in place, and the mines were carried in her hand.

She had left a notice on the mission she'd taken to meet her in the middle of the castle's main entrance, but when she arrived the area was empty. 'Guess I'm early?' she thought while glancing the room. Deciding that there was no party without the magic using clan's designated babysitter present, Kaori set her bow, and the bombs on a table and sat in a chair. She threw her feet up on the table top, crossed her arms under her chest, leaned the chair against the wall behind her and began taking a nap until her escort arrived.

    The Lamia Scale guild hall.

Regarded as a place of learning and discovery, it is here that the members of it's illustrious wizard's guild worked to become stronger, wiser, and more learned members of magical society. Of course, like many other such guilds, each of it's members studied and specialized in a different school of magic, allowing a guild of study like this to explore a multitude of avenues in the way of learning. Naturally, this drew in a multitude of diverse and eccentric magic users and researchers who would be deemed oddballs in most other parts of society, giving them more of a place within this guild's ranks. However, a certain gray haired wizard within the confines of this intellectual society's headquaters was having a hard time 'discovering' his way around.

"Stupid guild, with it's stupid halls, and it's stupid stairs..." The grumbling of one Dmitry Kazakov could be heard in the corridors of massive building, marking his frustration over it's layout. Or rather the fact that the building even had a layout to begin with. Or the fact that it was a building at all. Either way, the whole place irritated him to no end. It felt like a massive concrete cage, doing everything in it's power to keep him locked inside. Put him in a forest and he'll have the run of the place in no time flat, but place him anywhere near something man-made and you'll find the young wizard at a total loss. 'My, my, but aren't we having it rough today...' So came the voice of Hati, the wolf spirit, heard only by Dmitry. 'Old man, so help me, I will find a way to climb in their and kick your smart-ass...ass!' The spirit wizard shouted back, through their unique bond. 'I'm not sure which of those feats would be more shocking, boy.' Hati mocked once again, deriving far more entertainment from the suffering of his pupil than any mentor ever should. Not that he felt any shame for it.

As Dmitry finally made it to the ground floor and coincidentally the entrance where his charge-to-be was waiting, he made a mad dash for the nearest window, checking outside to confirm that there were, indeed, no more stairs and hallways to get lost in. Upon receiving such confirmation, he practically and quite literally jumped for joy.

"I'M FREE" He shouted at the top of his lungs, falling to his knees as if in prayer. 'Congratulations boy,' Hati said glibly.

'You have defeated the almighty stairs.'

The sound of something slamming against the floor in an alternating pattern, rapidly making its' way across Kaori's field of view that was currently obstructed by the back of her eyelids was heard echoing through the massive entrance to the mage clan's opulent abode. The masked girl lazily opened one of her eyes to see some guy looking out a window frantically as though he were checking for a monster of sorts. The man then collapsed to his knees, performing a type of strange other land walker style ritual while proclaiming the obvious fact that he was free. "Yo, guy." Kaori said, her voice muffled slightly by the cat shaped mask with red marks she wore. "You okay?" she asked, her tone implying there was a small hint of concern for the man.

She began uncrossing her legs and standing up, stretching one of her arms and then alternating to the other to help her fully wake up. Kaori began walking closer to the man while locking eyes with him, all he would see through the slits in her mask would be the silhouette of the two orbs below to imply they weren't a bright, flashy, awe inspiring color but rather something on the darker end of the spectrum. A couple yards away, Kaori stopped her advance and looked more intently at the man. She crossed her arms while turning her head to examine him from toe to head, needing to look up to him in all the most literal ways. "Edgy clothes, broad shoulders, heterochromia, and tall... Guess your Mits." she said, her tone harsh and very much business like. She tuned around and walked over the the table, grabbing her bow in one hand and the two explosive plates in the other. "I'm Lareci, Kaori Lareci." she said calmly, walking to the other side of the room.

Near the door, Kaori had her new ride set up. It wasn't the fastest thing on the street, but it was ages ahead of its' time. The bike operated off of two Nuclear Fusion cells that provided ridiculous amounts of energy to the motor. A lighter frame, and a bit of magic later and it could easily smoke any motorcycle of its' class. She grabbed the handle bars and began walking out the door. "You got your own ride Mits, or you wanna come with?" she said pointing to the back end of the seat, implying he could catch a ride with her if he wanted.

At the sound of a feminine voice, albeit one that sounded like it was separated by a door, Dmitry blinked out of his reverie and turned to the woman addressing him. "Mits? That some sort of root vegetable or something?" He asked, looking at her with genuine curiosity and a touch of hunger, now that he'd brought up food. 'You know, boy, I think she may just be your new charge for the duration of the day's events.' Hati said, losing some of the earlier humor in his voice. Dmitry stared blankly in thought for a moment before his face soured at the realization that the spirit was indeed correct.

Fair colored hair and skin, an odd looking mask, and rather short. Add a rather colorful outfit and the description he was given matched perfectly. The spirit wizard groaned and pulled himself to his feet, digging a pinky finger around in his ear. "So you're babysitting duty, huh?" He said, removing said finger from said ear and wiping it off on his coat. "The hell do they even want me on this kinda crap for anyway? I barely just got here myself..." Of course, when he looked back at the woman, she was no longer in the same place, having already moved over to her vehicle near the door. Dmitry half-cocked his head at her words, almost not sure how to answer. Shrugging his shoulders, he walked over and out the door with her, plopping down on the seat behind her without even thinking to hold on to anything.

Kaori didn't bother using a helmet, she didn't think those kinds of things were necessary. She'd ridden horses, small dragons, thunder sabrecats, and a giant fish a time or two and didn't need skull protection then. Swinging her leg over the saddle of her metal horse Kaori grabbed the reins and gently turned her hands, feeling how they turned with them. She felt the magic clans' guardian mount the mighty steed behind him and thought of how fun it'd be to share this experience. "So you're new to this strange place too? I thought I was the only one who randomly shows up and gets a fancy room." Kaori said while looking over the machine. There were various things on the front of it, numbers like a clock except they counted a lot higher than twelve and didn't go all the way in a full circle.

Kaori rested her hand on the right flank of the tiny horse and said "It's okay boy... I know we'll work good together so don't be afraid." in a soft voice, as though she were talking to an actual being. "So Mits, this may or may not be my first time riding a metal horse..." she said with a slightly embarrassed tone before cracking the accelerator all the way back. The motorcycle immediately shot off straight down the bridge, hitting a hundred mile per hour within a fraction of a second. Kaori shouted with glee at the top of her lungs, excited to be going so fast, not even caring that she was sitting atop a mobile nuclear bomb. They flashed past the entrance to the bridge withing a couple seconds and began blasting straight down the main street of the village on the eastern sea.

Laughing and smiling from ear to ear below her mask, Kaori let the bike continue gaining speed. Pedestrians seeing her coming rushed to the sides of the streets, some narrowly being missed by the bike as it shot past them. Her hair flickered behind her, whipping in the wind with the tips making a crackling sound ever so often. Kaori looked at a button that was bright red with an exclamation point on it and said "I wonder what this does..." with a curious tone. She lifted her left hand and poked the button and heard a sound that began increasing in volume, as though it were charging up. She didn't notice anything immediately and put her hand back on the handle bar, feeling a bit disappointed.

After the bike shot over the top of a hill and began angling back down, just as it was parallel with the horizon, looking down a straight line that lead out of the port town a green and yellow flame blasted out the back of the exhaust pipes and the bike accelerated to mach 2. The bike shot down the path ahead, leaving a loud boom behind it and shattering the windows of every house in between. After a few seconds it began slowing down and Kaori let up on the throttle, laughing and smiling like a child at an amusement park. Through the laughter, Kaori asked "Mits, this is fun right?" while also shouting over the sound of the wind. She reduced the speed further, down to the 50 mark on the clock looking thingy.

Kaori, Dmitry: Monster Hunt: Doppelganger Cult (One Time Only): B Rank - Private Empty Re: Kaori, Dmitry: Monster Hunt: Doppelganger Cult (One Time Only): B Rank - Private

Post by Benjamin 2nd April 2017, 5:33 pm

"Wait, this thing's an actual horse?!" Came the confused shout from Dmitry before the two wizards tore off across the bridge, into poor, sweet Hargeon Town. The grey-hair had just enough time at the start to grab the waist of the driver for dear life as he felt the skin on his face try to pull itself off of his skull from the sheer wind pressure, an enormous head full of light colored hair suddenly blinding him and making it even more difficult to breathe than the wind. The sight was all the more pathetic thanks to the fact that not only was the one driving the vehicle laughing like a giddy schoolgirl, but was also nearly a foot taller than her. This of course, paled in comparison to the moment when the tiny driver hit the button. In this moment, as far as Dmitry was concerned, time and space seemed to bend and the vehicle was no longer a being of this world. All he could do was vainly yell in protest, drowned out by the gleeful laughter of the button pusher. However, eventually the nightmare subsided and the bike entered the realm of man once more, the world around them once again becoming visible to the naked eye rather than blurring by like some sort of demented water color art.

Of course, Dmitry could no longer tell the difference since the world still seemed to pass by in a daze, the young man being somewhat traumatized by the event overall. His grip loosened a bit, but he still held on just in case. "Sorry, what's that?" He asked in an exasperated voice, still pulling himself together. "I think we might'o left my brain back there on the pavement." Aside from the roar of the engine, the only thing spirit mage could here was Hati's laughter from beyond the spiritual boundary. 'I like this girl already!' The old spirit shouted with the utmost cheer, a disturbing sound in opinion of his pupil.

Of course, with all that speeding and button pushing, it wasn't much longer until they reached their destination, Oak Town. Known as a center of magical history, the knowledge that can be attained here has drawn in wizards from all over the country, it's library second only to that of the Lamia Scale guild in it's prime.

As soon as the vehicle stopped, Dmitry hopped off the back and rushed over to a tree, quickly emptying the contents of his stomach on the ground while using the trunk as support. "Ugh, this place better have some food..." He said just before he continued his release, spitting out what remained in his mouth and wiping off when he was finally finished. "Alright then, now where the hell is this place? Some kind of inn right?" Naturally, as it was his habit to avoid such places in his past travels, the young traveler had never truly explored Oak Town, and would likely have a hard time finding the location of the request without assistance.

Kaori stopped on a hill just outside the town, pulling out her iLac and opening the map on it to confirm their location. She was told it can be programmed to tell you how to get places, but the device was so alien to her that her being able to turn it on was a miracle in and of itself. If not for the navigation program having the most imaginative name ever, that being 'Map' Kaori would have never found it in the first place. Since the device was experimental, and as likely to explode as the bombs in her tool belt she didn't take to tampering with it too often for fear she might anger whatever creature might be inside that talks to her when she turns it on. She tried having a conversation with it once, but all it said was 'Hello, my name's Sara and I'll be your assistant.'

Kaori, Dmitry: Monster Hunt: Doppelganger Cult (One Time Only): B Rank - Private 52XKRz7

A rustle was heard in the brush behind her and before she knew it a large beast shot out, teeth bared and quickly sunk into the back of Kaori's neck. As the corpse hit the floor, blood pouring from the wound the beast snarled, wrung out the limp bodies' neck with a quick jerk and threw it aside like a rag doll. It began spitting, coughing, and snarling as though the flavor was either the worst thing it had ever tasted, or far from what it expected human blood to taste like. Three blue shuriken shot down from the trees above, slamming into the right flank of the scaled beast and making it stumble. Moments later Kaori dropped from above, slamming the back of her heel into the skull plate of the armoured monster and sending its head to the floor. Were it not for her shoes having a thin lining of metal under the fabric, and padding between that metal and her foot that kick would have hurt Kaori more than the creatures but it still hurt Kaori like hell. The shadow clone she created at the last second erupted into smoke, and the blood it spilled went with it. Kaori grabbed her heel with her hands in a partial fetal position while rocking back in forth, holding the cries of pain back. It wasn't as though her aggressor was any less hurt as it circled around whimpering from the hit on its' head.

Kaori paused her grieving and looked at the creature, her eyes softening through the mask. She got up and limped over to it, dropping to her knees in front the creature that snarled in return. The masked warrior placed her hands on the side of its' cheek and began rubbing it gently stating "I'm sorry, I didn't want to hurt you. I thought you were a person." Her voice was gentle, loving, and caused the creature to relax slightly. It let off a low rumbling sound before sitting on its' hind legs. "I wonder what you are..." she said in a thought ensnared tone while looking down the scaled hide of the pacified beast. She could tell that the creature didn't actually like her, it simply respected her for how quickly she reacted and countered it. Respect among warriors or some nonsense like that. "Hey Mits, I actually don't know this place too well either. This entire land is strange to me, so I think it'd be best to split up and look." she said strongly while continuing to rub the wild beast.

Kaori stood up and took a look around the city, most the buildings were different from each other. So it was harder to tell what each individually would be, but what did make it easier was looking at the population density. Kaori pointed in the distance at an area where people seemed to be leaving, but not many entering. "I'll look over there. If I find it I'll send a flare with my magic." She stated and returned to her bike, the large creature getting up to stand taller than Dmitry's waist and turned around to go back in the brush. "Happy hunting." She said before turning on the motorcycle and turning around to return to the path.

Kaori, Dmitry: Monster Hunt: Doppelganger Cult (One Time Only): B Rank - Private Empty Re: Kaori, Dmitry: Monster Hunt: Doppelganger Cult (One Time Only): B Rank - Private

Post by Benjamin 5th April 2017, 9:00 pm

As the creature made it's departure, Dmitry casually held up a hand to wave it off as though it were some neighbor. "Been a while since I've seen one-o-them..." He muttered to himself as he moved in the opposite direction as Kaori was searching in, waving to her as well. 'As I recall, the last time you saw one, you tried to eat it.' Hati said, unable to hide the glee in his voice at how that particular situation played out. 'Yeah...I'll admit, not my best decision, looking back.' Dmitry reluctantly replied. 'But hey, it would've worked out better if there wasn't a whole pack...and if I wasn't delirious from bein' sick that day...and my leg wasn't busted.'

Moving on from that rather disturbing memory, the gray-hair continued to walk in his assigned direction, keeping an eye out for the inn specified in the request. Of course, like with the guild hall, Dmitry was completely out of his element here. More so, in fact, because he hadn't even the faint modicum of familiarity here that he had come to develop within Lamia Scale's headquarters. Naturally, the thought of stopping and asking someone nearby for directions didn't occur to him in the slightest and Hati would be damned before he suggested it himself; that would be terribly boring. However, as the spirit mage continued to wander aimlessly throughout town, it became apparent even to him that something was definitely amiss, evident in the behavior of the townsfolk. That is to say, there weren't any around. Certainly he was no expert, but the wanderer was almost certain that their should be at least a few people wandering about during this time of day, considering the sun was still high in clouds and, by his reckoning, there were no clear or perceivable hazards about the place. But no, not a soul. Dmitry would have assumed the place abandoned, except the door of every building was shut tight and there were no tracks leading in or out of town, human or vehicular. In fact, what tracks he could find were quite old, at least a few days if his experience was anything to go by. And in this case, it most certainly was.

Up till now, there was another oddity, something Dmitry certainly noticed. It was something he had not only neglected, but outright avoided addressing all together, not at all certain of what to make of the phenomenon. Part of him felt as though he would burst in to laughter the minute he turned to look, another feeling like he would be acknowledging his own madness. Even Hati, in all his experience and wisdom regarding extremely strange things, wasn't sure how to interpret this situation. Of course, they both knew what it was, but neither could reconcile such blinding stupidity. It was almost beautiful, in it's own innocent way. Beautifully stupid.

Standing about twenty feet away, doing their utmost to remain completely hidden, was a group of about sixteen or so people that were almost completely identical to one another. They were failing. Miserably. Four of them weren't attempting to lean over and peak from behind a wall, one of those four on the ground from having lost their balance. Another four were 'hidden' under a wagon with three more trying to lean out from behind the same vehicle, making it all the more obvious. Two had somehow managed to get onto the roof of the same house the originally mentioned four were leaning out from behind, but by far the most audacious were the remaining three trying to take refuge...behind tree. A tree that was two feet in diameter.

He couldn't do it. Dmitry just couldn't turn around. He knew not how silly they looked, yet he knew how he was going to react all the same. Even Hati could barely contain himself, despite lacking a pair of lungs that would make such uncontrollable laughter possible in the first place.

After all, it's the thought that counts.

Passing through the side of town she'd chosen to take up, Kaori noticed three things that were off. The first was that businesses were closed down, and it looked like they were closed for days considering as there weren't many tracks on the ground. The second was that there weren't many people around town, and the ones that she saw all pretty much had the same face. The third thing was that she got a pretty weird vibe from everyone she passed, as though her instincts were telling her it was time to get out of dodge. Choosing to ignore her instincts, something Kaori felt would come to bite her in the ass like that thing that tried earlier. She pulled up next to one of the weirdos, glaring at him through her mask while questioning just how much of that guy was actually 'there' to respond to her. "Umm... excuse me sir?" She said with an unsure, muffled voice. He turned his attention to her and raised an eyebrow as a form of acknowledgement. "I'm travelin' through on my way to a convention, but I'm a bit tired. You know of there's some place I can crash for a night 'round here?" she asked, her voice convincingly innocent. The man pointed down the road towards the center of town. "There's an inn that way. It's a bit pricey but it's the best place in town, there's also a hotel on the far side of town that's cheaper if money's tight." he said informatively. Kaori thanked him and continued riding towards the center of town where she came across a decently sized place called "Oak Inn" which matched the intel she had.

Her instincts told her to get lost, leave the Inn immediately and go back to find Mits. But her pride made her steel herself and pool energy in her right hand, lift it high and fire a bright blue orb straight up to signal Dmitry where she was. Afterwards, Kaori walked forward into the inn where she quickly jumped aside with an orb blasting past her. "I missed..." a feminine voice said coming from the left. "I told you already, she'd dodge no matter where you aimed." a voice from the right replied. Kaori looked around the room at three women, all looking the same. Kaori's eyes narrowed on them, the intel she had didn't mention triplets. "You seem to be frustrated Kaori." the one in the middle said. Then the freakiest part came when all three of them spoke at once. "I've been waiting on you. I knew you were coming, I saw you be born, and I've seen you die." To which Kaori didn't reply, she simply got ready for the battle she knew was going to be a pain in the ass.

Kaori, Dmitry: Monster Hunt: Doppelganger Cult (One Time Only): B Rank - Private Empty Re: Kaori, Dmitry: Monster Hunt: Doppelganger Cult (One Time Only): B Rank - Private

Post by Benjamin 8th April 2017, 4:12 pm

Just as Dmitry was pondering how to resolve this situation without bursting into laughter, a blue orb flying into the skies above from deeper into town. It was most likely the signal flare that his partner for this job mentioned, meaning that she had found the place where they were supposed to meet with the people who posted the request that brought them here in the first place. However, this meant that he would have to do something about the horribly inept spies that were around him, the solution to which seemed rather obvious to the gray haired wizard. Dmitry sighed and held out a hand in the direction of the wagon, causing a small, silver magic circle to form in front of his palm.

    Fight OST:

"I invoke the Swift Hawk..." He said as he closed his eyes, reopening them shortly after to reveal that his pupils had begun to glow silver and his irises had gone pitch black. "Vedfolnir!" As the name was called out, a strange light of the same color as Dmtiry's eyes converged on the circle. Soon, a form emerged from the spell, one that belonged to a bird of prey that shot forth like a shot out of a cannon in the direction of the group of doppelgangers hiding behind the house, hitting one of them hard enough in the gut to send them flying about fifteen feet back, knocking them out cold. As the three remaining members of that individual cluster of cultists looked on at their comrades fall, they failed to notice the wizard barreling at them from the opposite direction of where they were looking. When he came into range, Dmitry stepped on the back of the fool lying on the ground already before tackling one of the other two at full force, knocking him to the ground before quickly punching him in the face three times while he was down. Before the member of this little squad that was still standing could respond to the situation unfolding around him, Vedfolnir quickly turned back and slashed across the man's shoulder with it's talons, causing him to tumble downward and land on his comrade that Dmitry had earlier stepped on. The hawk then flew up to the level of the building's roof, where the two that had been up there this whole time were about to climb down to the fight below. Before they could do so, the Vedfolnir slashed both of their ankles, causing them to lose their balance and fall one after the next...landing on top of the two below. As the four under the wagon began clamoring their way out from beneath the vehicle, the bird of prey flew over to one of the horses still tied to it and gently pricked it's hindquarters with it's talons. Naturally, the beast of burden was startled by the act and began to run, subsequently causing the others to follow suit and drag the wagon over the legs of those trying to get out from under it. As their allies screamed in agony, the three that were behind the wagon rushed to their sides, trying to tend to them in some way. Not that they knew anything about medicine.

Meanwhile, just as Dmitry had finished pummeling the doppelganger beneath him, the three from behind the tree rushed to attack, the one in front attempting to slash the wizard before he could get off of his victim. No such luck, as he quickly rolled out of the way of the dagger and sprang to his feet in order to meet his attackers, the next rushing in to stab him. As the assailant lunged forward, aiming for the chest, Dmitry quickly sidestepped and jabbed the doppelganger in the chin, throwing him off guard. To follow this up, the wizard closed in and punched his opponent in the gut hard twice before finishing with an uppercut that sent him to the ground. After that the next fool tried to cut Dmitry across the throat, an attack that he quickly ducked under before sending a fist in to the doppelganger's crotch. Naturally, this left him open to another attack as he reeled in pain, allowing his tormentor to strike him in the nose with his forehead before delivering a heel-kick to the chest and sending him down like the one before him. The final member of this trio attempted to strike low for the gut, something that almost caught Dmitry off guard. However, his response was swift as he moved to the left and just barely moved his abdomen out of the way in time avoid the attack, firing a strong left hook to the man's jaw and grabbing his hair before kneeing him in the face three times. Needless to say, the man no longer fought after that.

Deciding to ignore the remaining three doppelgangers as they foolishly attempted to help their allies, causing more harm then good, Dmitry ran of in the direction of the signal flare with Vedfolnir following close behind him. 'I'm a little disappointed that you didn't let me come out and play...' Came the voice of Hati. 'Don't worry, old man.' The wizard responded.

'You'll get your turn soon enough.'

Kaori stared down the three women with her left hand on the grip of the katana on her right hip. She was watching as the three teen aged girls moved about the room with their arms waving wildly as though possessed by demons. It was a combat tactic, she could tell it was. There was a martial art style that used sporadic, slightly uncontrolled movements to confuse the opponent and throw them off guard. In this style, the fighter acted drunk, swaying side to side lazily while purposefully stumbling at times and then delivering powerful, crushing attacks to punish their opponent for letting down their guard. It was called the Drunken Monkey, and Kaori could tell that while the execution was different, the concept behind what the trio were doing was the same. "So, tell me Kaori... How does it feel to know everyone you love is dead?" one of them said while floating -literally- across the floor and flailing her arms about. "How does it feel to be part of a clan that doesn't care about you at all?" another one said while doing the same in a different direction. "How does it feel knowing you'll never beat Saia? That you'll die alone, and in vain?" the third said.

Kaori grit her teeth, but focused on their words. They all hurt, and for Kaori, she knew they were accurate. Everyone she loved was dead, the clan she was being sheltered by probably didn't even care that much about her, and she probably would lose to Saia no matter how strong she got. Under her mask, Kaori's eyes grew fierce. It wasn't blind stupidity that made the words motivate her, but rather it was the strength of her heart that made her push on and believe in hope. The hope that she would one day rejoin her clan, the hope that she could make friends with the magic users, and the hope that Saia would fall to his knees before her. "Past, present, and future..." Kaori said in a calm, deep, focused tone that was muffled through the mask. The right eye behind the mask had glowed a bright, vibrant violet as she began looking into the history of the women before her. "Three bodies, all formed from the same source." One of the versions of Desere looked terrified exactly one second before ten of Kaori appeared around the real one. They all vanished, and the scared one called forth orbs of fire and began shooting with the other two doing the same. A sword appeared through the back of one of the women, with Kaori saying "The past can never change, it cannot adapt, and is impossible to protect."

She vanished, leaving behind a shadow clone to take a fireball that would have hit her had she not moved. She appeared in front the next version of Desere, drawing her sword and then appeared on both sides of her, behind her, crouching at her ankles, at the back of her legs, her stomach, and in her face. Blood shot out of dozens of small cuts made by the rapid teleportations she'd performed while drawing her swords. The four remaining clones were charging the other one, teleporting sporadically and forcing that copy to focus on them, preventing it from protecting the other. An eruption of fiery orbs had dispelled them all, and left Kaori to finish just the one. While she could see the future, she couldn't react fast enough to dodge the sword in her skull that made her fall to her knees. Just before she fell face down in the hardwood floor, Kaori ripped the blade from its' bloody sheath and flicked it while walking towards the one Desere. "The future is flimsy, it never stops changing, and is always dictated by the past." The remaining one, the real Desere, had looked at Kaori in awe at her raw power. "The present, now, is the past that changes the future. It's the only time where the past matters, and in this moment it's the only time that you can make decisions."

"I... Lost...?" Desere said in a tone of disbelief. Kaori had never claimed victory, she was many things but arrogant wasn't one. The masked ninja reached behind her to her shuriken, having a feeling that this fight was far from over. "I REFUSE!" she shouted, spreading her arms far apart and conjuring dozens of fire balls to assault Kaori with. The ninja threw her star in front her and made it release its' magic to form a barrier. The barrier moved backwards at the force of Desere's attack and hit Kaori, sending her back and through the wall. A massive cloud of dust, wood chippings, and pain erupted from the front of the inn as Kaori conveniently shot through the opening for the door and flew across the street. She slammed into the wall of a building across the street, and if not for the slight curve to her barrier it would have crushed her. "I WILL NEVER LOSE!" Desere shouted while hovering mid air with a massive fireball held with one hand over her head. The fireball was thrown, hitting Kaori's barrier and exploding brilliantly with her inside. "Then suffer." a voice came from behind sounding exactly like Kaori's. Desere's arms and legs both fell from where they were and the torso fell to the ground with steam coming from the stubs, Kaori descending and landing on one knee with her katana glowing bright red.

"How...?" Desere asked in a shocked, pained, squeaky voice. Kaori stood up and walked to meet the torso's gaze. "I am Kaori Lareci, the child of destruction. I have single handedly killed over three thousand men, women, and children. You lived your entire life knowing your opponent's next move, and having more than enough time to counter it. You lack the experience required to win against a true warrior, you lack the horrors that I've seen to drive you forward. That is how you lost." Kaori said with a cold tone. She then stumbled, and collapsed to lay on her back looking at the sky. It was true, she was powerful, and against most foes impossible to deal with... but she wasn't a goddess. All that teleporting, controlling all those clones at once, and thinking five steps ahead of Desere left her exhausted. Kaori's mana crystals could help her recover the magic she'd used, but nothing could restore her energy. Kaori didn't fight it, she closed her eyes and let herself fall asleep with her head propped up on a broken chair back for a pillow.

OOC: Combining three strong rolls and two normal rolls to make two bosses

As he neared the inn where the flare had been fired from, it was clear that something eventful had taken place, what with the debris scattered about. The result, however, was quite clear, with one of their targets mutilated and Kaori unconscious on the ground. Oddly enough, the doppelganger seemed to be breathing as well, her wounds cauterized by whatever cut them. Dmitry sighed and walked over to his partner. "Guess I can't leave her here." He said as he hoisted her over his right shoulder, taking her sword with his left hand. Upon doing so, he could feel a series of tremors beneath his feet. 'Seems they've learned of your presence, boy.' Hati said, coming to the same conclusion as his pupil. "I invoke the World Serpent," He chanted as he made his way to the inn. "Jormangand!" A large magic circle appeared in front of the building, causing more of the silver light from earlier to converge and form a massive, one hundred and fifty foot long snake to appear, blocking off the entrance just as Dmitry made it inside. At the same time, a massive force of twenty armored warriors and sixteen more of the dagger wielding doppelgangers from earlier amassed in front of the inn, blocked off by both Jormangand and Vedfolnir.

As Dmitry got inside, he was met by what appeared to be the remaining two leaders of the cult, having likely been drawn out by the earlier fight between Kaori and their comrade. After placing his partner on the ground, the wizard tossed the sword in his left hand to his right and turned to face his next opponents. "It's over. You put up a good fight, but those pets of your's can't hold out forever." Said the woman in the more ornate armor. "And there's no way you can beat both of us by yourself." Added her shorter, male partner. His armor was far less decorative, but also seemed much heavier. Hopefully Dmitry could use that to his advantage.

"Look, you wanna keep running your mouth? Be my guest." he said, crouching down in preparation to move. "If not, then let's get started." Before anyone could say another word, the smaller of the two charged in, swinging low with a hammer. Dmitry jumped over the swing and vaulted over the attacker, landing just in time to duck under the swing of a strange sword made entirely of light being wielded by the woman. Making use of how wide that swing was, he quickly stepped behind the doppelganger and thrust the katana threw an exposed portion of her right arm, catching the totally not copyright infringing sword held in her hand. As she screamed out in pain, he slashed across her armored right leg, dealing just enough damage to cause her to kneal down. As she did so, Dmitry violently removed the blade from her arm with his left hand, following up with a swift kick to the exposed part of her face.

As she fell to the floor, the small tank decided to charge now that his partner was no longer blocking his path, attempting a downward swing this time. In response, Dmitry swung his own temporary weapon, the beam of light slicing the hammer in two and creating what he thought was an opening. Unfortunately, the wizard was not a weapon specialist and when he tried to swing the katana, his opponent rammed into his gut using the full weight of his armor, knocking him back five feet and causing him to lose his grip on the blade he was swinging. Quickly getting to his feet as the doppelganger armed himself with an ax to replace the hammer, Dmitry waited for the man to charge again, this time swinging horizontally again for his face. The wizard the swung the blade upward as fast as he could, hitting the dwarf's wrist and causing the the ax to go flying into a nearby wall. While his enemy held his wrist in pain, Dmitry swung the blade of light at a spot under the arm, hitting a soft spot and causing the wearer to both cry out in further agony as well as turn around from the force. The gray-hair then slashed at the area behind the doppelganger's knees, forcing him down. Finally, now the victor of this fight, he grabbed the small man's helmet off his head with his left hand, flipped it over in said hand, and brought it down on it's owner's exposed head. Naturally, this was enough to knock him out and he fell to the ground, the still conscious woman staring in shock as Dmitry walked over to her.

"How..." she muttered. "We outnumbered you and you still...without even using magic..." Dmitry huffed in response, as though to mock her surprise. "You were using weapons and techniques you barely understood, same as me. I've just been in more scrapes is all." He said before kicking the woman in the face hard enough to knock her out as well, switching off the sword as she fell. "Right then, better deal with that..." He said to himself, turning to the sounds of battle out side. Dropping the light-composed saber, he began dragging the two leaders to the entrance of the building, the dwarf giving him a bit more trouble.

Outside, the battle raged on, Vedfolnir swoop in and out to disrupt the formations of the cultists and Jormangand occasionally flinging waves of enemies back with his head. None had fallen on either side, when the two guardians suddenly vanished into thin air. "Did...did we win?" On of the doppelgangers said. As if to response, their remaining two leaders were dragged out before them and left in the middle of the clearing. "Your bosses are out. Now get the hell out of here would ya?!" The demand was simple and, lacking any kind of leadership remaining or the courage to face more combat without their 'great leaders', the cult quickly took their fallen commanders and fled the scene. 'Cowards, the lot of them.' Hait complained, disappointment clear in his voice. 'No arguing there, but at least the job's over with.' Dmitry responded, happy to be done with this strange affair. As he went back inside the inn, the townsfolk began to slowly exit their homes, making sure that the threat was well and truly gone. By the time he got inside, he could here the cheering in the background. It mattered little to him as he retrieved Kaori's weapon and placed it back in its scabbard, leaving the sheathed blade beside her after properly setting her down on a chair. After that, he went down to the basement below and sought out the hostages he was told about, one of them already dead and the others unconscious. Upon untying them and bringing them back upstairs, Dmitry would look about the place for some food and wait for Kaori to awaken so they could collect their reward and head home.
