The Temple of Yin and Yang

Back at the Magnolian household, Mura was getting a little curious of one thing that would soon play a major part of his life. Staying ignorant about it was killing him, so he decided to do what anyone would do to search for knowledge; read books. To put it shortly, he visited the great library in the capital, sought through tons of books for this specific theme, and found it among other books of foreign legends and mythologic folklores. To think that his magic was a mere legend didn’t mind him as he found it irrelevant; he was barely that experienced with it yet, so why give it such an outraging name? Its original name was more difficult, though, so perhaps he should continue. Anyway, this book that mentioned his magic once or twice was mainly about the overall concept of spiritual essences and beings out of their realms, the Yōkais. It was the first time that Mura ever heard of such a term, but it was strongly related with his title. As he had read through the papers, the Onmyōjis were, so to say, some sort of priests and Yōkai Hunters at the same time. Throughout the history, many events between them had taken place, but Mura’s knowledge was so limited that he barely found authentic containment in that.

He also read about this temple that was nearby here. That was the reason that one could see Mura in the background of the blue ice above the large seas, walking with slow steps to avoid slipping. Kyuken was soaring by his right shoulder, and Zirconis by his left. He wanted to take a look at the temple and perhaps get a wider insight of the overall topic. It was cold in these areas, way cooler than the winters in Magnolia, despite it being spring. His hair was bristling with cold. “Eeeehhhh… so coooold…” he complained while trying to warm himself using his hands and grind them up and down his arms, “It must be close… can any of you guys see the temple, yet?” Being busy looking around, Kyuken and Zirconis shook their floating heads. “Iya. This desert ice biome is totally empty… for now,” the samurai ghost replied…

The cold never bothered her too much. Seeing as her own magic could bring the temperatures low enough to freeze water, why should the weather of glacial temperatures inconvenience her? What was she doing out here? Nothing much, other than removing herself from the intense heat of the other lands, and the noisy cities that dotted Fiore. However, her curiosity dragged her here. Despite being a Glacier God Slayer, Izayuki was not fond of snowy regions, having spent too long in the cold under tormenting conditions. Usually, the snow and ice stirred up memories that the raccoon dog would rather forget.

Still, out in the silent glaciers, there was a temple to be found, one rumored to have information to feed the mind of the young mononoke. After having been captured and confined by the Onmyoji, she was going to do whatever it took to prevent another unfortunate encounter with them. The first had resulted in her turning a young girl into a Kasha Nekomata, who had torn apart and eaten her comrades. It had been the only way to escape, and after hearing what the girl had thought of youkai, Izayuki had no mercy or forgiveness to extend. Upon the second incident, she had been knocked out thanks to Bandersnatch trying to show her Alice’s memories, and as a result, the Onmyoji located her and captured her while she was unconscious. The only means of escape was brought upon her unwillingly, and single-handedly, she had destroyed the keep of the Onmyoji, and killed many, while cursing the land. The power she held as a monster was frightening, and not something she ever wanted to unleash again.

Nevertheless, it had been successful in defeating the group of Onmyoji. The temple hidden in the glaciers was said to have more knowledge on Yokai and users of Onmyodo, and that was just what she wanted to find. Fortunately, with her keen sense of smell, it did not take long for the tanuki to stumble upon the temple, and make her way inside, while dragging an icicle in her muzzle along with her-- a snack for later. Time to search for some juicy stacks of knowledge~

After a couple of eventless searching, the group of shaman and couple of spirits finally caught sight at what looked like a small house from afar. What convinced him was its containment and structure as the building was physically a part of the glacier, all ice upon ice. “… It doesn’t look that huge from here,” Mura mumbled by the view of it, “Let’s take a look. Maybe it’s just some kind of igloo, or maybe someone in there knows where we have to go.” With that said, he glided down the hill of snow as Kyuken and Zirconis followed up in their blue and green spirit ball forms, while the Onmyōji approached the building. Whilst walking across the plane, the air began to take form of large winds that pushed Mura’s hair back, almost as if it was preventing him from approaching the entrance. He ignored the wind despite its strength and the struggle that it brought for him, so that he would end up before the entrance. Now that his feet were standing on ice, he could see glimpses of light from below; it also appeared to hide cells, but the light faded off and turned the glacier dark and gloomy again, making it impossible for Mura to look through. “W-Wait, we all saw that, right?” Kyuken spoke up. Him and Zirconis did spot the change in light down there, in which Mura nodded. “Perhaps we’re not alone. Now, let’s just stay on our guards… *sigh*, let me stay on my guard, and we might get through this without trouble.” Pushing away bangs from his forehead, he proceeded to enter the temple’s entrance…

It was gloomy and dark in here, but that suited the circumstances a little. It was a place made out of ice, and if you put up torches everywhere, then that would just end up melting down the structure, right? Meanwhile, the shaman noticed that the hall, despite how empty it looked, emitted a kind of grinding sound that cut his sense of hearing like the sound of scratching a blackboard. “A-Argh… uhm…” he mumbled a little. This did indicate the presence of someone else beside him and the two ghosts, but given by the sound, whoever caused it would be nearby. Due to the darkness, he quickly held a hand beneath Kyuken’s spirit ball form and let the ghost emit light enough for him to take a look around, spotting all the decorations and inscriptions directly on the unchangeable glacier… and the presence of the shadow a few meters away from him.
