Haia looks towards the sky, eyes squinting as the rays of sunshine both empower her and blind her vision. The Sky Tower, her research has brought her here. She looks towards the path she took, she was not going to see this place for a good week, assuming she reaches the top. It was no joke when it was called the Sky Tower. She could not see the top of the tower even on her travel here. Grompy sat beside her, croaking as he sat with his huge bulging wise purple eyes staring at her.
"Make up your mind, ascend or not?" The huge poisonous toad said without moving a muscle. Haia sighed and looked back at the huge frog. She knows that toad can't talk, but she knows he and her are connected in thoughts, and says what he wants to her through telepathy. At least he is decent enough not to do it all the time. She cleared her throat.
"Of course we ascend, would suck if I came all this way here, with like weeks of research to just leave the place, plus its a big hassle to move you around everywhere," Haia smirks at her sassy remark but the toad had thick skin, and a fabulous sense of humor. In the frog equivalent of a laugh, he hops towards the ancient structure. Haia shakes her head and follows the amphibian, a flaunt in her steps.
The architecture of the tower was one reason it drawn Haia to the place. Though abandoned other than the small groups of monsters that inhabit the dark halls now and then, it has rarely shown age nor wear and tear. Yet she could feel the age and how ancient it is as she walks through. Loud thumping and croaking echoes through the halls that endlessly spiral towards the sky. Haia stops for a moment and looks towards a window, it seems Gromp took noticed and stops, soft croaking as he stares towards the window too. Wyverns flew past the tower in the distance, their size seemingly tiny from where the tower was. After a while, they left their view and they pressed onwards up the tower. The daunting spiral staircase, wider than Haia's own room, and steps short enough to easily forget they are steps. Boots clicked against the cobblestone and marble remnants that remained untouched while sloppy webbed feet slapped loudly against the stone and moss. The whole journey to the stop was silent, very silent with the exception of their footsteps and the occasional wind that blows stronger and stronger the higher they went.
A bit soon, Haia was beginning to feel lightheaded. Most of her stamina has been drained trying to ascend the tower's stairs. The air was thin and Haia beginning to feel colder as the temperature slowly dropped. Haia makes herself a small blue flame, warmth enveloping her fingertips. Grompy was not faring as well either. He shifted himself close to the window as possible to gain sunlight to bathe his wart covered skin. She looks out the window as she sat on the stairs. She could see Magnolia in ths distance, its tiny city skyline barely visible but she recognizes the fireworks that continously explode above the city. Evening was falling and it was getting colder. Haia kept a fire going to keep both her and Grompy warm as they continue to ascend the tower. Just how much longer she has to go, she is uncertain herself as she continues her slow ascent to the sky above. The sky is the limit they said. Haia was not going to make that the limit for herself. The stairs begun to feel more tough and rough, and her footsteps begun to be more heavy and slow. Grompy was losing strength though.
"Hey... Grompy, how much higher? Think your fat ass can make it?" Grompy definitely took offense, and Haia smiled. That gave him the push he needed to go higher with some strength, but she knows it is not going to last. Haia takes a few steps towards the balcony that lead outside the tower. They were very high up, even higher than the mountains themselves. She could see the blanket of white soft clouds above the tower. Then she saw hope. They only needed to ascend just a bit more. Haia ran back to Grompy and picked the toad king up. Surprised, Lord Grompulus Kevin Ribbiton of Croaksworth let out a huge croak, causing the walls to vibrate. Wings of black and blue fire burst forth from her back and theheat was enough to send them into an updraft, slowly ascending the stairways but a much quicker pace than before. Flights of stairs begun to be a gray blur below her and Grompy that the frog had to croak.
"You could have done this like.... At the very bottom of the tower..." The frog king croaked with some annoyance in his voice.
"I'm very happy to just let go of your warty body~" Haia chimed and Gromp just remained silent throughout the flight to the Sky Tower's peak. That was her goal. The peak. That was what Haia had intended to do in the first place ever since arriving. They said something special is there. And she would be happy to use it as her flight continued slowly but surely, to the top of the Sky Tower, her black and blue wings carrying her slowly above the stairs.
Soon the temperature dropped more and the air became thinner. Haia could see the light of the top above, but her wings, they were still fire, they needed to air to at least continue burning at the volume they were going to keep her in the air. The wing diminished at the final steps and she plummets to the stairs, Gromp taking most of the impact and holding them steady from their roll down the stairs. Somehow his webbed feet managed to stay on the cobblestone stairs. Haia watched Gromp, he was not feeling the best right now, so she took a deep breath and lifted the frog up with her bare hands. Haia then took steady steps up the stairs, regretting the decision to bring Grompy to this mission, but he is here, and this is no time to regret anything like that. So when they reached the top of the stairs, she heaved the massive toad on to the top and clambered up, unsure of what awaits the toad and herself on the top. Haia hopes it is not danger, the climb took alot from them.
