The sun shone brightly on Divide Island this early morning, shimmering down on the dew collected the night before, giving the island a bright sheen only rivaled by the pure reflective surface of the ocean surrounding it. Beneath those gently rolling waves, deep beneath the sea, miles away, days away? A new story had started, the king had finally gotten sick of waiting for his daughter to return home from wherever she ran away to, so he sent two soldiers from the Royal Guard out on a mission to retrieve her, one of them would look beneath the waves for anywhere she could have hidden herself away, while the other got to go search the vast surface world for the young mermaid! Clearly, since most of Black Sails or maybe all of it could not breathe under water, the Mer they would be encountering would be the one who was selected to explore the land in search for the runaway child.
Lycus? Was the lucky Merman who got to go up to the surface, and he was the last person you should trust your potentially biologically mature daughter too. If there was one thing the boy was known for beneath the waves except for being one of the best of the guard? That would be the fact he would sleep with anything that had a pulse, he was seductive and very often successful at wooing whoever he wanted into his calm bed. In fact just before he left, he’d been with a good deal of this fellow guard and several of the mermaids who lived in the city around the palace. It was well known to everyone that Toxicus tried to get with anything that had a pulse and could eventually consent to him somehow. Anyways let’s get beyond that because spreading his genes around was not the only reason he was excited to come to the surface, no he actually had a pure reason for that, shockingly. The male had never been allowed to surface as a child due to an accident with a fishing net that left its mark on his family's mentality. So the merman was just simply overly excited to see the world he had never even gotten to glance at before.
Sand left an eel-like trail behind the male as he dragged himself up onto the beach, dragging all nine feet of himself up so only the last two feet of his tail, his fins, were touched by water. “How am I supposed to dry my tail, fuck I can’t drag myself any further, damn it!” the large male panted heavily, his well-muscled chest rising and falling sharply with each breath, shaking his broad shoulders, crimson gaze looking up at the sky above him, sun shining down making the water on his tail glow. “Huh?” he let his hand trail off his trident that had been stabbed into the ground to help him drag himself out of the water this far when he saw something orange moving around beside him. “Oh, you're cute! What are you?!” it was the first land animal he had ever seen and little did he know that it was a cat and felines ate fish, half of him was a fish. “OW!” he yelped out, flopping slightly when the tiny thing sunk its fangs into his tail. “Let Go You Can’t Eat me! Stop! I’m Not Food!” but there was not much he could do besides flop around. Wait! The male reached for his trident so he could kill his attacker, but another bite caused him to falter and accidently knock the source of his magic away. “Shit!” he reached vainly for the trident now laying a few feet away. "Help!” it was the only thing he could think of, but it was damning he had not called for help since he was a child!
