Avern’s personality has changed drastically over his youth and into adulthood, all being refined into who he is today. On the positive side, Avern is a very bright individual, academically savvy and prizing himself on the level of intellect and smarts he’s able to demonstrate. His upbringing and desire to become a samurai also instilled in him a love of tactics and strategy, something he studies daily. Following this line of thinking, working as a team and practicing martial skill are things he prizes highly, believing these two tennets of one’s lifestyle are highly important to succeeding personally. Finally, he values those with a cool head, understanding and honestly not desiring to lead and preferring to follow someone who can lead well. However, much like a mirror, these qualities are reflected negatively in terms of what the opposites to these qualities are. Avern doesn’t like those who disregard an intelligent decision or quality for brute force or recklessness. While there’s a time and place for acting quickly, he doesn’t believe that anyone should simply throw caution to the wind on a whim and not take a moment to consider the situation and how to approach something. And much like not thinking something through, he cannot stand people who are in themselves reckless or just plain dumb (in his eyes). While he doesn’t mean to come across as stuck up or high and mighty, he still has a hard time keeping his tone, and being patient with difficult persons.
When battle is joined it’s a chance for the reflection of Avern’s training to shine through. Despite the sometimes-haughty attitude and seeming arrogance, Avern never approaches battle with a cocky attitude. Even when knowing he fights an inferior opponent in quality he always approaches the battle as seriously as if he were fighting an overwhelming force. He takes his samurai training seriously, calm in the face of danger, respect for your opponent, and above all not fearing his own death (although he’s yet to face a brush with his own mortality so no telling how this will change). When being commanded Avern will follow orders to a T, doing whatever is needed to successfully execute a mission and ensure success. This doesn’t ever change unless the person issuing orders is someone he truly doesn’t respect, which shouldn’t happen often. Conversely, being in command is something Avern has never really had to deal with. By all means he’d remain calm as he could, but he lacks the seasoning needed to be an effective leader. Despite this fact he always has an eye out for his fellow team mates and friends, never letting his own ego or hubris take priority over their wellbeing. So while he may not be the most effective leader at this stage in his life, he still has a lot of growing to do, certainly the potential to be an effective leader given his care for his friends and team mates as well as his love of strategy and thinking things out, he just needs more experience.

Physically, Avern reflects a childhood of not only training and education, but dedication to being the best at what he dreamed to be. While certainly not muscle bound, he is very well toned through training in kendo and other martial arts, something that shaped him into having a very healthy and toned figure. His violet eyes gleam with intelligence, being bright and witty from his childhood of learning bushido and being educated to a very high degree, also reflecting a fiercely independent spirit. His hair falls to be about mid length, being spikey and brown which hangs no lower than the base of his neck. Clothing-wise Avern usually sticks to similar garb, an almost tunic-like black shirt and pants underneath a green robe piece that hugs close to his toned/lean form. His boots are more akin to sandals which, along with symbols on his armor and clothing, depict his eastern origins. The actual armor he does wear comes in the form of Gauntlets and shoulder guards, all adorned with eastern symbology. Around his sword sheathe is a scarf with a marking from his family on it, a memento of where he came from, and where he ultimately must go back too.

Avern was born to a reputable family of samurai, known for being masters of the blade and holding much prestige throughout the region. Avern was born to his two parents and two siblings, one older brother and one younger sister. Even from a young age Avern was in love with the idea of being a samurai, a stalwart swordsman defending home, family, clan and honor. HE would often play with his siblings in ways that reflected this, sword fighting with his brother and making up adventures to go on with his sister. Growing up Avern was always energetic, his desire and drive to fulfil his dream shaped him to be eager and genuine, always giving one hundred percent and nothing less. This transitioned even into other aspects of being a samurai, undergoing education and traditional learning to fulfil duties not related to combat. Part of the skills to help him become a samurai however included the training of magic and spells which would augment and support his abilities as a swordsman. At a young age avern had discovered an affinity with the element of earth, so much of his magic studies and spells focused around the earth element.
Growing up Avern witnessed his family grow in prestige and respect, his brother, who had been walking the path of samurai before him had ascended to join the warrior rank. In a way this gave Avern even more drive and fire to meet his goal, at the threshold would be one who would extend their arm and embrace him, who would help hoist him onto the plinth he desired to be on. As he grew, he matured in some areas, he became very astute and intellectual, still cultivating and desiring the martial skill, but also to prove the philosophy and fundamentals that meant being a samurai. This did not have its drawbacks, as he began to harbor ill ideas of those lower in status, magical, and educational skill. Despite this all seemed to be well with Avern, he was set to proceed to the rank he coveted much like his brother, and he was blooming into a bright man.
All this changed one faithful day, his twentieth birthday as a matter of fact. IT was roughly a month before he would be awarded the rank of samurai and his brother in service, he was coming into more responsibilities and having to learn more things that would be needed for him to fufill his duties. TO learn more about the skills needed, he decided to view from aar the activities and routines preformed daily by the samurai. HE was excited at the prospect, it would be like watching art- no, a play in motion, seeing the actions of a group he idolized from a distance. What he came to find out broke his heart, and his conceptions wide open.
He witnessed samurai threatening merchants for money, forcing themselves upon women, essentially doing everything that he was taught from a young age was wrong. This, this wasn’t right. He rushed away, determined to find his father, a prestigious samurai to set this right. Surely he, a paragon of society, a true samurai would set this right. Again, he was wrong. He arrived to see his father paying the local authorities, buying their loyalty, and bribing them to overlook the actions of his samurai. This broke the young man’s heart. HE confronted his father after the men left, calling him dishonorable and asking him the purpose behind his actions. His father laughed mirthlessly, stating the boy was an idealist and had yet to learn the truths of the world. He ordered Avern out of his sight, to leave him to attend to other matters and to rethink his childish and romantic ideals.
Where this would break or cause anguish to some, it roiled the metaphorical waters of the young man’s heart. HE would not stand for this, HE would not permit the ideals of samurai to be tarnished in such a way, He would be a real, TRUE samurai, unlike his father. He secured for himself armor, supplies, and as a notion of defiance, a sword prized by his father. IT was in the heart of the night he took his leave, and as he cast a final look at his home he realized what a risk he was taking, a danger he was walking into. He tightened his grip on his bag and sword. He was taught always to pursue his ideals and his passions, this was no different. He turned from his home, and went on his way, starting down his path to become samurai.
