Personality:
Balthazar generally comes of as a fairly calm and collected individual; the kind of person who seems to have it all together at a general glance. He is overall a kind person at heart, but has the tendency to unintentionally come off a bit aloof, and authoritative. He sure likes to assert himself, and appear confident in the face of whatever life throws at him, as best as he can. Nevertheless, he can be quirky and goofy when in a good mood, and can occasionally be seen teasing and poking people to get reactions from them. Some would claim it's rude, but he sees it as a way to asses one's character, which is of course an important part of getting acquainted with a person, or so he'd say.
Being an assertive person, he's not shy in combat in most cases, and is willing to give it his all whenever and wherever. Might even be keen on picking a fight where one doesn't necessarily need to exist, for he sees it as a better alternative than doing nothing or holding back. Gotta do your job as best as you can to not be seen as a weak link after all. And while he thinks a lot of spotlight time is a pain, having people admire you or look up to you in any way is simply satisfying.
Despite that however, he is a loyal person to those who he chooses to support, and will not be extremely reckless and uncooperative to have his way when tagging along in groups. You can expect him to put his opinion forth directly still though, as dumbness is not an excuse for failure. Better not try to convince him that it's a good thing, because he may just roll his eyes into another dimension as a response. Gotta have some standards.

In all honesty, he's not the biggest fan of small talk and the generic answers that tend to come along with it. He'd much rather prefer discussing deeper and more interesting subjects. You kill two birds with one stone that way too. Potentially learn something new, and get to know the person better.
♛ Exercise ♛
While he's got nothing against chilling and taking a break, Balthazar does have an inclination to enjoy various physical activities, and would certainly go out jogging rather than visit a cinema when given the choice. Hell, you kinda need to be fit to do mage work anyway. Noodle arms are a disgrace!

Being one of the more assertive and potentially aggressive seeming people, he tends to take a liking to people who don't melt into a puddle when interacting with him. It's much more satisfying to have rapport with someone who knows their worth and doesn't hide their tail between their legs too much.
Dislikes:
♛ Babies/Very young children ♛
Ugh. Just ugh. He doesn't outright hate them, for he knows their existence is necessary...but nature has decided to make him...not so great with babies and kiddos. He gets way too easily annoyed by all the childishness, lots of crying/screaming, and lack of logical reasoning. He'd prefer to avoid having to take care of them/deal with them when possible.

People who choose to be satisfied with being dumb are such a pain. You can always find a way to improve, can you not? While he may give them the benefit of the doubt sometimes, Balthazar is hardly fond of those who willingly follow a path of ignorance and turn away from the truths.
♛ Smoking/Drugs ♛
Alcohol is tolerable...the rest of these substances? Ew, not so much. Rest assured you'd never see him trying cigarettes or any kind of drug, weed or whatnot. He might even choose to avoid people he sees performing these activities, to spare himself any involvement.

Balthazar's got some ambition, and likes knowing he can make things happen by his actions. Having more influence over what is happening around him is one of the things he tends to seek, and it is also one of the reasons why he chose to join the guild he did.

Not surprisingly, a person who has a tendency to roll eyes at ignorant people would want to get smarter themselves. Maybe not your typical bookworm or nerd type, but he still wants to improve on his abilities to use information for strategies, and just for getting ahead in life in general.

Enjoying entertainment at heart, Balthazar has an interest in seeing how will it all end in time. Will the council actually fall, or will they keep exerting their influence for all eternity? The state of the land does influence the lives of the people within it after all, and being on the front lines of change as a mage makes for a good way to observe it closely.

The idea of being on a leash, or just plain unable to do anything is something he hates dearly. It's the exact opposite of what he generally strives to do, so being stuck in such a position equals losing a huge part of his reasoning to push on further.
♛ Wasps ♛
Most insects are just fine...but these guys are simply spawns of Satan. It helps none that he's in fact mildly allergic to their stings, prompting him to get nervous around these unnecessarily aggressive critters.
♛ Drowning ♛
Having nearly drowned on accident when he was younger, it has become something he wouldn't want to experience again. Smaller bodies of water are mostly fine with him, but he's really unlikely to want to willingly wander into anything that has more depth to it.
