Kanix dusted herself off and lifted her gaze from her dirtied, blue dress to the blue eyes of her lover, smiling sweetly at the Sabertooth magus. She had a slightly saddened look to her eyes, but it was nearly unnoticeable unless someone was staring into her eyes. Heaving a sigh, the woman straightened her posture and glanced away from Mashyuu, her gaze running over the village. They stood near the stage where Beanstalk and the Peapods had been, telling supposedly innocent stories to the villagers of Hunting Village. Tears welled up in her eyes, one side tinted red with blood from the injury she had received from Sol many years ago now. Hazy, blue orbs fell to the corpses that littered the ground in front of them, hundreds of her people dropped dead to the ground. Finally, the tears trickled down her cheeks when her sight landed upon a small child with reddish-brown hair and deeply tanned skin.
She let out a horrid cry of pain as she bounced on her toes momentarily, then rushed off to the little child lying lifeless in the myriad of bodies. Kanix fell to her knees and lifted the young boy up into her arms, cradling his body like she would have if he was her own child. Droplets of red splattered onto the boy’s chest, Kanix’s bottom lip quivering as she rocked back and forth, cold and stiff body in her arms. “Ahanu. . .” she whispered out his name in a hoarse voice, reaching forward to stroke the paled cheek of the Nirvit child. Hugging the boy close to her, the woman let her eyes move away from the dead child and to the lifeless bodies all around her. Anger welled up inside of her, mixed in with the pain she felt of her people having been mercilessly slaughtered in front of her eyes. Gritting her teeth, the woman ripped out her right eye, tossing the eyeball away and reducing her sight to complete darkness.
Arms locked around the child’s body, Kanix threw her head back and wailed loudly to the sky above her, where clouds accumulated over the village. For each teardrop that fell onto the skin of the boy, the clouds grew darker until they were near black in hue: a storm brewing. Thunder cracked overhead, lightning peeling across the sky as she dropped her head back down to her adoptive younger brother. Pulling the body upward, she nuzzled his face into her neck and held him there, taking out the water from her pouch in vain. The water turned into a small stream in the palm of her hand, swirling around in a circle as it glowed a brighter hue of blue. Carefully, Kanix placed the healing water against the chest of Ahanu, wishing with all of her might that he would awaken like he was only in slumber. When nothing happened, the blind woman pressed harder into his chest, perhaps hoping that the harder she willed her water, it would bring him back from the dead.
A calloused hand gripped her wrist tightly and yanked her up, causing her to drop the water that was in her hand, along with the boy. Fearful of losing Ahanu eternally, the magus cried out and reached for the child’s falling body like motion was slowing down. She was pulled into the chest of her lover, gripped by muscular arms tightly so she was not able to escape the man’s grasp. Kanix writhed weakly in his arms and beat her fists harshly against his chest until she planted her face into the fabric of his shirt and simply cried. Her legs could no longer hold her up, Mashyuu’s arms the only support that she had while her heart felt like it was breaking in pieces. “They took them away from me; they murdered them with no sense of remorse, didn’t think of the loved ones they had!” she sobbed into him. “These were my people, they were my family. They took me in when I needed help the most and now they’re all dead!”
Another crack of thunder resounded overhead and rain poured down on the couple in a torrent, muddying the ground and soaking the dead bodies around them. She turned her head slightly so that her ear rested against Mashyuu’s chest, listening to the heavy beat of his heart as it comforted her. Her dirtied face was streaked with lines of tears and blood, conjoining at her chin where they dripped off in watery droplets. Never in her lifetime had she ever felt a pain so immense as the dull aching of her heart after she had seen her fallen loved ones. It hurt her head so badly that she simply wanted to close her blind eye and hope that she didn’t have to wake up to the world again. Each and every one of the lifeless bodies on the ground had meant something to her, had done something for her that made her who she was. Not once in her time of living in the tribe did she ever wish ill upon anyone, even the people who had bullied her for her strangeness.
Sniffling, Kanix pulled away from Mashyuu, her sightless eye gazing up at him as she bit her lip and let her emotions calm down. It was time that he learned who she was, not just some blind woman he had fallen in love with and had a fear of men’s touch. She had more to herself that he would have ever thought and if he thought of her any differently, then they were not meant to be. Feeling his arms slack around her, Kanix removed herself from his grasp and turned back to the massacre that rest around them. The rainstorm had slowed down slightly, a soft sprinkle compared to the downpour it had been only moments prior to her calming down. Breathing in deeply, she took his hand into hers and pulled him away from the bodies as villagers came rushing out of their homes to see what the cause of the storm was. “Mashyuu, do you know who I am?” she inquired like she had lost her sense of self and was hoping that he would know, but in reality, she was asking him if he was aware of her past.

notes
I've decided that Mashyuu will be helping me with the exam; of course, I'll still need to get to 6,000 words on my own. The plotline of the exam starts out in a flashback, where Kanix overcomes her hatred for men and explains her past to Mashyuu, developing their relationship more. All of this leads up to present day, where Kanix is standing in front of a mirror, finishing getting ready for her wedding before walking down the aisle to say her vows. Enjoy.
