Tarot Reading
Description: Growing up in one of the many Nirvit tribes located across the Fiore continent and Earthland as a whole was no easy task. Men and women of the tribes each had their separate roles and each was expected to amount to certain things. Women were tasked with the growing of crops, the mending of clothing, and the birthing and care of future generations. Men were expected to hunt the creatures that lived around the tribe, defend their home against invaders, and build onto the tribe. One of the many boys of the tribe stood out among his tribesmen, however, as one who was not capable of hunting or defending. As he grew up, he stuck close to his mother, who, out of spite for her tribe's traditions, taught him to mend clothing and grow crops. Yet, this young boy held something within him that was not explainable to the tribesmen and woman of the Nirvit. He held within him a power so great that even the shaman of the tribe envied the connection the boy had with the Great Spirit.
This young boy was taken under the wing of the current shaman of his tribe and sent out on a journey to manhood. When he returned, he came back with a renewed vision and claimed that there were things not even their current shaman knew. He never once went into detail of his findings, but the shaman of his tribe was joyous and withdrew the boy from his social life. Always hidden away, the child without a name became known as Askuwheteau, which roughly translates to "He Keeps Watch." From the shadows the teepee that the shaman lives in, this boy can be seen peeking out from the flap to watch his comrades. The other children of the tribe play games that revolve around trying to get Askuwheteau to come out and play with them. Eventually, he came out one day and introduced a new game to the children, one that was called "Tarot."
He would sit down in a ring of children and spread out a deck of cards in front of himself and he would tell one to pick three cards. With those cards, he'd be able to tell the child's future, and this kind of magic entertained the children of the tribe. One day, when he had grown older and the previous shaman had died and he took his place, he ran across a young, frightened girl. Pitying the girl, he took her under his wing and taught her the ways of shamanism, including how to read tarot cards. Askuwheteau raised the girl from the weak and frail being that she was, into the blossoming and strong woman that she is today. Long days and nights would pass when he would simply sit in the teepee with her and teach her things about his people. Soon, she was able to comprehend the ways of a shaman and go about her life as if she was to be the next one.
Through all of this teaching, she was able to connect herself to nature deeper than anyone else, even himself, and he gave her the name Eluwilussit. Roughly, this translates to "Holy One;" however, the tribespeople of the Nirvit know her as Pauwau, which means "Witch." She does not utilize her connection to the Great Spirit in a harmful way, but many are terrified of her capabilities. Through her teacher, she knows that a loving connection to the Earth means a closer connection to the Great Spirit. Where there are those who believe she does bad, there are those who hold a single strand of hope that she uses it for good.
Strengths:
- By seeing into the future, the user is able to utilize the given information in order manipulate and change events to their liking
- This magic allows for the user to utilize the effects of the Major Arcana cards in a deck of tarot reading cards
- A type of magic that is versatile in its effects due to the versatility of what the tarot cards are capable of doing
Weaknesses:
- As the user is only telling the future, they may become a slave to Fate as it does not manipulate the future
- If the user's future vision is rendered useless, the ability to use this magic is negated until the future vision returns
- Each of the "cards'" effects has their own weaknesses, which make them vulnerable to certain types of magic
- If the user is not a master in tarot reading, using magic related to the cards may be difficult for them to cast
Unique Abilities:
- Shinigami Eyes: The user is able to sense death all around them, whether it's past deaths or deaths that have yet to come. They are able to determine when a person is about to die, is dying, or if people have previously died in specific locations. When linked with someone who has Blessed by the Fourth Wall as a lineage, the user is able to even see names and lifespans of other people. However, it can only be those the user has seen and interacted with before, never someone who has not been seen by the user. It can only work on those who have a soul as the soul is capable of dying and leaving the body of said person. This ability does not allow the user to counter deaths of other people; they can only try to prevent it from happening. As a side effect of the ability, the effect is always on, allowing for the user to see deaths at a constant rate.
- Cosmic Awareness: This ability allows the user to be aware of all things that involve them on a universal scale, including threats or things that would eventually affect them. For instance, the user is aware that someone may be talking about them, even if the person is not in the same vicinity. It can be used to detect illnesses in the user that would potentially harm them, threats that may harm their life, et cetera. However, this does not allow them to know what it is or what is said about them, just that they are aware of it. More so, by saying the user's name, it has a chance of summoning the user for the duration of the thread, but they cannot interact with the people of the thread and the people cannot interact with them. Essentially, the person is like a ghost during this time, where only words and actions of others can be heard and seen by the user. Unfortunately, the ability can only be used for one thread every three threads the person is mentioned in.
Name: Le Mat, "Power Reflection"
Rank: D
Type: Mystic, Holy, Instant, Reflection
Duration: Instant
Cooldown: 2 posts
Description: Accessing the powers of the Fool card, the user is able to reflect a single spell at any given moment in time. The power of the spell is halved when reflecting spells that are of higher ranking, but spells of lower ranking are fully reflected. Its total range is 20 meters, so any spell inside of a 20-meter range from the user can be reflected by them. However, all elements have an opposite and thus, power negation is able to stop this spell from reflecting other spells. Typically, this is used as a means of protection, as well as a means of a counterattack when reduced to minimal attacks. Spells that induce death or revolve around the aspect are not able to be reflected by the spell due to their power. Likewise, physical attacks by an opponent cannot be reflected, as the spell can only reflect other types of spells.
Strengths:
- Reflected attacks deal the same damage as their initial intention so long as the spell is equal to or lower in rank than the spell
- As a D-rank spell, the range is typically 15 meters; however, since it's an easy spell to cast, it has an extended range of 20 meters
- No matter the rank of the spell, this spell is able to reflect nearly all types of magic except those that may oppose it
Weaknesses:
- Not all spells are able to be reflected by the user; for instance, spells of higher ranking than the user are only halved in damage
- If the spell is out of range of the user or does not hit, the spell cannot be reflected back to the opponent
- Unholy spells are the only type of spell that the user cannot reflect as it is the opposite element of their spell
- Attacks that require physicality cannot be reflected, such as a punch or a kick are types of attacks that cannot be returned
Name: Le Bateleur, "Boundary Manipulation"
Rank: C
Type: Mystic, Holy, Instant, Transportation
Duration: Instant
Cooldown: 3 posts
Description: Upon connecting with the Magician in the deck of 72 tarot cards, the user gains the ability to manipulate every known boundary. By manipulating the space between themselves and another location or between another person and another location, they are able to transport. Unfortunately, they can only manipulate boundaries within a given 30-meter range and anything outside of that cannot be manipulated. The user or person they choose to transport is technically not broken down into microscope pieces, rather they are simply turned invisible. Not only that, but the user is capable of transporting a small group of people (an upwards of 5) at any given time. However, this can only be done once per post with a cooldown of three posts in between usages of the spell. DAMAGE CANNOT BE DEALT NO MATTER WHAT.
Strengths:
- The spell is able to teleport the user in any direction so long as it is within the 30-meter range given to it
- It warps the user through reality by the user bending the waves of the real world in order to make themselves invisible
- Instead of transporting themselves, the user is able to choose a group (up to 5) of magi to transport in their place
Weaknesses:
- No matter how much the user bends and manipulates a boundary, its two sides will always coexist with each other
- Careless use of the bending of boundaries may result in paradoxes far more volatile than one can handle
- Without careful precautions beforehand, the user can remain vulnerable to attack, such as when they are teleporting another person
- Transportation can only occur in the set range of the spell, attempting to transport outside of that range may cause issues
Name: La Papessa, "Aura Reading"
Rank: B
Type: Mystic, Holy, Spiritual, Reading
Duration: 6 posts
Cooldown: 7 posts
Description: The High Priestess in the deck of Major Arcana allows for the user to be granted with the ability to momentarily read auras. For six posts, the user is able to read the emotions, health, power level, and moral alignment via the invisible forcefield around them. Up to twelve people are able to have their auras read during the duration of the spell, two for each post of the spell. Essentially, this ability is also able to allow the user to discern the personality of the target before interacting with them. This can help the user with being able to figure out how they should act around and react to the things the target says. It can also be used as a means of crowd control, as the ability allows the user to see the moods of those around them. However, the range of the spell is only 50 meters; so, anyone outside of the 50 meters can't be read by the user.
Strengths:
- This spell gives the ability to read the aura of another or multiple people (up to 12 at the most) in a given range)
- Upon accessing the aura of another person, the user is able to read one or two things off of the person and use it against them
- A longer duration of the spell allows the user to be able to effectively read their opponents' auras
Weaknesses:
- The user is only capable of seeing the aura of those in their visual range (regardless of whether they have actual sight or not)
- Only a small group (up to 12) of magi can have their aura be read by the user at a single given moment in time
- Higher ranked magi are able to block the user's ability to read their aura by natural or supernatural means
- They are not able to read the whole magic of another person only the element that resides in their aura
Name: La Impératrice, "True-Self Deception"
Rank: A
Type: Mystic, Holy, Channeled, Deception
Duration: 7 posts
Cooldown: 8 posts
Description: Connected to The Empress tarot card, the user can mimic the mind and DNA of another person and use it as their "true self." However, their outward appearance and personality do not change, it simply casts an illusion over them for the duration of the spell. In this case, an illusion mage would be able to see through the deception and know that the user is hidden behind a disguise. This is how it works: the user copies the DNA and exact mind of another person, and instead of the opponent reading their mind and body, they read the copied person's mind and body. For example, those who have the capability of reading another person's mind would find themselves reading the mind of another person rather than the user. At any given time, the user is capable of withdrawing the disguise to reveal themselves to their opponent or not. It can be used as a form of "crowd control," where the user can copy another person's identity and place that identity onto one of their allies or an npc.
Strengths:
- The user is able to copy a person's identity, including their magic and memories, in order to hide themselves
- Despite having copied another person's identity, the user still acts, thinks, and talks as if they were themselves
- As opposed to reading the user's own memories and magic, another magus will read the copied identity's information
Weaknesses:
- Higher ranked mages may be able to see through the deception caused by the spell as their magic is stronger
- The user cannot know or use the memories or magic of the person they copied; however, they can still copy them
- Actual clones are not created by the user, rather an illusion is placed over them that can be seen through by certain magic users, such as illusionists
- Magi who are stronger in power than the user (a.k.a higher ranking) are not able to have their identity copied (does not apply to deceased magi)
Name: Le Empereur, "Absolute Command"
Rank: S
Type: Mystic, Holy, Instant, Manipulation
Duration: Instant
Cooldown: 4 posts
Description: Calling upon The Emperor, the user is blessed by the tarot card and given the ability of Absolute Command over any of their targets. This ability, while only for a single post, allows for the user to give a mental command to another that they must obey. Unfortunately, the only downside to this spell is that it does require OOC permission from the other magus's player. Higher ranked magi are also capable of simply disobeying the rule, as they have a stronger will against mental incapacities. However, those that are equal to or lower in rank will be forced with having to go through with the action, no matter what it is. Any actions that are done via this spell are automatically 100% S-rank damage unless the controlled magus is lower ranked than the user. If a magus is lower ranked than the user, then they will deal their normal amount of either melee or spell damage.
Strengths:
- The user, while only for a single post, is able to control what the opponent is doing either to their surroundings or to themselves
- This spell affects everyone, from a measly human being to that of the tiniest animal found on Earthland
- Another easy way for the user to deal damage without wasting too much MP in order to send an attack on someone
Weaknesses:
- A spell like this requires OOC permission from the other player; otherwise, it cannot be used during combat
- It may not work on those who are higher ranked than the user, leaving only equal to or lower in rank magi vulnerable to its effects
- The user is likely to hold back, as puppeteering another magus is considerably dangerous and outcomes vary
- Once a command is given the opponent, the user cannot retract the given command and replace it with another
Name: Le Hiérophante, "Transcendent Embodiment: Power Negation"
Rank: S
Type: Mystic, Holy, Channelled, Negation
Duration: 8 posts
Cooldown: 10 posts
Description: By calling upon the powers of The Hierophant tarot card, the user becomes the embodiment of magic itself and can access all aspects of the energy. Utilizing this ability, the user is able to negate magic in a single given area [100m] for a duration of eight [8] posts. Once the spell has been cast, everyone within the spell's range loses their ability to cast their spells, including the user. They are rendered useless in battle unless they have a weapon, in which they are able to use to combat each other. Weapons' abilities, as they technically do not come from the user's ethernano, are able to be used during this spell's duration. Likewise, pets are able to cast their abilities as they are on a different level than the magi caught in the radius. Those of equal to or higher in rank than the user cannot have their magic negated for the spell's duration.
Strengths:
- The spell is able to negate all types of magic that are in a range of 100meters around the user in all directions
- When cast, the spell negates all ongoing magic attacks instantaneously, leaving the battlefield magicless for the duration of the spell
- Evidently, it also removes all status effects or anything that may have been previously applied to the user and their allies
Weaknesses:
- The spell has a limited range of 100m; anyone outside of the 100m is able to use their magic to their advantage
- Upon casting the spell, all magic is negated for its duration, this includes the magic of the user and their allies
- Stepping into the force field automatically negates one's magic, rendering them only to their fists and weapons
- Weapon abilities are not negated during the spell, not making magi as useless as one would think they are
