    Private Chapter II: Reset

Post by TehDMCmaniac 23rd July 2016, 11:27 am

Only stillness seemed to stir in the surrounding darkness, shaken by the occasional thunder, though even that seemed to have an air of tenderness to it. The gentle rapping of raindrops only resonated with the near-tangible emptiness of the room. Yet it felt somehow quaint. Somehow, despite the darkness and the cold, it was warm.
The hearth in the corner of the room held only feeble flames now, casting a dim light on to the face of a golden-haired girl. That was all Aegis could call her -- perhaps to some she'd be a knight, to others shed be a hero and to others still -- a king. Yet the knight's armour laid bundled on a high-backed chair and the king's sword stood propped against it. What remained hidden beneath those thick woolen blankets was just a girl, a girl with golden hair and emerald eyes.

The dying hearth managed to light no more than Artoria's little corner of the small hut. Despite the flames shining the steel plates of her armour aglow, nothing but shadows stood across from her. And a pair of watchful violet eyes, seemingly never blinking nor moving.
The azure knight had stopped counting the days Artoria spent unconscious a while ago. Each and every one of those was filled with a torturous mixture of strange feelings for which Aegis had no words. They were merely labeled as 'uncertainty' in his mind, perhaps in a hasteful attempt to forget them, but never the less, his expressionless gaze hardly left Artoria's face even for a moment, almost pointedly avoiding to look at the numerous blades scattered near her body. Each of them irritated him; there had been 13 attempts to drive a blade in the girl's heart, each accounted for by 13 different daggers, but each time the knight's eyes fell to her face, sometimes smiling or frowning in her sleep, and he found himself unable to move. Why had he brought her here? That, too, was a recurrent question -- and every time he supplied himself not an answer, but silence. A silence through which he continued to care for her, sustaining and cleaning her body with magic. Every night he approached her with the intent to kill, and each and every time he'd end up using a wet towel to wiper her face, or replace her bedding however necessary. It was preposterous.

Though over two weeks had passed since that day, Aegis understood nothing at all. Only scarce facts were clear, and even they were shrouded in an impenetrable enigma. Why was Artoria unreachable through Origin Perception? Why did the very notion of trying made his head hurt? Why was she alive? And why couldn't he kill her? Why do I even want to? But perhaps it could be put simpler than a myriad of questions. Artoria was alive, yet she claimed to be someone else. She knew him, yet she did not; and he hated her -- oh, how he hated her! -- yet somewhere deep inside he could feel how what he hated wasn't her at all. His enmity was meant for something, someone, else. Some shadow-clad figure, who now stood staring at a girl with hair as brilliant as the sun... him. He realized that he probably hates himself for hating her, and for that he hates the world for making him hate. So much hatred, and, he knew, it was all an illusion. The simple truth was that he wanted to run away, and it made him feel uncertain.

At the sound of another distant thunder, Aegis slowly brought himself up from the floor and paced the perimeter of darkness, stopping in front of a particular silhouette, wide and squat. There was far from enough light for anyone to make out what it or any of the other shapes scattering the room were, yet he knew that particular object as well as he knew his own body.
With a subtle movement, the knight tried to fling the tail of his coat away before sitting, then winced when he realized that the coat in question had been hanged on the wall days ago. His hand stretched forward, tracing the smooth surface of the object -- the piano -- as he let loose a sigh. Music never seemed to help his mood, though all of his compositions were an expression of it. Perhaps this would be an exception? Doubtful, yet even as it crossed his mind, the idle thought began melting away as his fingers caressed the keys. And then, silence...

    A surreptitious crack of joints.
Inhale. Steady breaths. Just like you always practiced.
Feel the sword in your hands
And with the gust of change
    Dance.

It was only momentary hesitation. As the breath left his barely parted lips, the knight's fingers began their dance, each decisively striking a key, yet what he saw was not the piano, nor did he hear the storm outside. With drooping eyelids,  Aegis saw only the emptiness of a castle's hall, cold and lifeless, and he wandered. Even the song of his own music never reached him in there, as he twisted and spun; danced to the tune of only his heart. Did he hope to find solace, hidden in those halls? Perhaps he merely wished to catch a glimpse of himself, the one person he had truly sought to escape for so long. Longing to see his face, in a vain search for answers...

As the melody lined storm-wound darkness, the knight's face never seemed to shift, even as he played.
Even as a single tear caressed his cheek.

Ever since she collapsed from information overload, Seru had been asleep, completely unaware of her surroundings in the "real" world; her current world was within her mind and even there...  It was dark.  She was in a state of an infinite dream, the dream of that place where she met an entity similar in appearance to Aegis.  It was dark.  Cold.  Empty.  There was no living thing in there apart from herself; only the most vile of shadows surrounded her.  In her "dream", she found herself not moving, only remaining in a curled ball at one place with the sensation of endless falling, yet, there was a strange sense of comfort in this, one she couldn't describe.

What felt like countless days finally brought her new colour - cyan.  A bright, brilliant colour of cyan filled the dark void that was he mind and suddenly, she found herself standing in front of Aegis, smiling and he was smiling back.  She was only but a young girl, though she knew it was happy times.  The energy turned into a surrounding around her, a fairly nice, grassy open field and he was patting her shoulder.  Aegis was happy, she was happy and while she couldn't understand the relationship they had, inside, she felt as though that's all that mattered.

Just as quickly as this happy scene entered, however, it just as quickly ended.  She felt a tight grip on her shoulder, now, not one meant for friendly patting; it was holding her.  Moments later, she coughed up blood, looking down at her groin to find a blade being plunged into her...  By the very same man.  She was older, now, and her appearance was different even to what it was in the real world; she was slightly more mature.  She had Excalibur on her right hand, which she dropped.  The scenery quickly changed; it was a battlefield.  Countless soldiers dead, impaled, shot, beheaded and only the two of them remained.

Blood flowed out of her mixed in with another liquid; Aegis was crying.  His sword was pulled out of her and she was falling backwards, everything becoming incredibly slow and hazy.  She didn't even feel herself hitting the ground, only knowing she was there.  She stared at the pool of blood as her eyelids began closing, and she heard the sounds of the afterlife...

And then, the King of Knights awoke.

When Seru woke up, she didn't jolt upwards breathing heavily and sweating like normal people did.  Instead, she woke up normally, as any person would, except she was shaking.  She couldn't remember the extended dream she had, only that it was something...  Familiar.  It was strange and terrifying, but...  She couldn't waste too much time thinking about it, for now.  She awoke to see a familiar face in Aegis, only he was turned away from her, playing the piano.  She didn't wish to interrupt, admiring the sound for what it was - he was quite the pianist!

When she detected it nearing its end, she sat up on the bed she was on, noticing she wore no armour and only a dress; looking around she noticed they were nearby. There was a piece of cloth nearby, too. When he finished playing his tune, Seru lightly clapped. "That was fairly good, Sir." she said softly. Her voice gave clear indications that she had a bad time dreaming based off of how shaky it was. "Have you been taking care of me?

What am I, in the end?

A wicked scoundrel. A worthless punk. A monster hidden in a humanoid shell. So many adjectives could be used to describe a single person, usually in a negative light. It was crystal clear that the reputation of this "poor" soul was anything, but good. His existence was often cursed by his victims, his aspect often repulsive to the normal human beings. Though many fell to his charm, given they allowed him to approach them, little would actually describe Nero as anything, but atrocious. Gladly, little survived a closer encounter with him. Not like the oppinion of peasants mattered to Nero; their words, aiming to hurt his non-existant feelings, were but a simple pain to listen to. Endless chatter about how horrid he was, and how monsters like him were not supposed to exist did nothing to Nero, except bother him and hurt his ears. Though at the same time, it was funny to listen to the last insults of your dinner, observe it as it thought it was somewhat important or supperior. Little did those poor souls know, Nero was much superior than them. And humans were nothing else, except his dinner.

Pacing through the silence of the night at a consistent rythm, Nero threw away his smoke, not interested where it could possibly land. The heavy rain agitated him, as it made it impossible for him to consume a fair share of nicotine whilst he increased the distance between himself, and his last murder scene. A barely visible grin drew on his lips as the image of his latest masterpiece reappeared in his mind. So many bodies... Dismembered... Several limbs dissapeared without a trace, bite marks all over the bodies. The authorities had been driven insane by the atrocities commited by the demon. They were confused, they did not understand how any human being could commit such a monstruous crime, and continue doing so for quite some time, without feeling any sort of redemption whatsoever. How petty were they. Nero could find so many mistakes in their acts, that it made it a rather funny spectacle. Their first error was to be so close-minded to think that the crime was commited by an actual human. Seeing the entire spectre of possibilities beyond that could clear out the image for them. Why would a monster, a demon, such as Nero himself, feel any guilt when he wasn't doing anything wrong? In his eyes, he was not commiting a crime...

... He was simply fighting to survive. Similar to how human beings killed animals to acquire the nutrients they needed to live, Nero did that with humans. Unluckily enough, the demonic lineage of the ebony-haired man had brought him into this world as no ordinary demon, but a ghoul. An entity that was doomed to hunt down humans forever, and consume their flesh, for that was the only thing that satisfied his hunger. Ordinary food, even animal flesh, did not satisfy him at all. In fact, it had a sickening taste to him, and could end up being the cause of his death. Not many members of Nero's race had survived. He was among one of the last representants of the ghouls, such a unique, yet doomed race. His homeland, Sin, was home to only more and more wicked souls, demonic entities, and, even though ghouls could feed off of them for a few, it was never enough. And a weakened ghoul was fairly easy to kill. Or go insane. Whatever came first. Though Nero had managed to escape that god forsaken place, thanks to his intellectual supperiority. And that had been what kept him alive for so long.

The storm did nothing else, but go from bad to worse. Thunder could be heard in the distance, lightning flashing on several ocassions. Though he was safe from the legal authorities hidden deep within the woods, Nero highly doubted he could stand any longer in such a fierce storm. Nor did he want to, honestly. His favorite attire was already soaking wet, his black hair, a mess of locks that couldn't seem to stand in their place in a semi-decent way. As much as he hated to admit it; he needed shelter. Perhaps just for one night, but he needed shelter. Then in the morning... He could return to his usual activities and slaughters. After all, he had a mission to pursue. A dream to make reality.

Though he was succumbed by his own thoughts, Nero's other senses worked perfectly fine, and thus permitted him to catch a rather peculiar scent as he paced. With an enhaced sense of scent, ghouls were permitted to actually catch and recognise the scent of different species, and track it down, thus helping them when they're hunting. Humans had a very peculiar scent... A pleasant one, to say at least. But the one he caught at the moment was absolutely undescriptable. It was eerie; it was not human for sure, but Nero could not actually put his finger on what it was either. He had never sensed something as that, something so... different from the rest, so new. What kind of beast hid within the woods alongside himself? He couldn't deny his curiosity, and if there was something that could make Nero move and do something, that was either curiosity, or benefit. And, needless to say, the creature he had just sensed, had caught his interest. He wanted to know what hid among the woods... What other creatures haunted those forsaken woods, what were their mysteries. And hopefully find a shelter.

Tracking down the smell was not difficult at all. It pretty much consisted in following the scent, and ocassionally change directions if the scent was stronger somewhere else. Not anything overly complicated, nor anything that needed a fair amount of intellect to do, but often came in handy. Upon a few minutes of walking, or perhaps half an hour, Nero found himself standing before someone's home, hidden behind a tall, soaked tree. The sound of a piano came from within the house, pleasant notes playing as time went by, giving away the fact that there was indeed someone in there. The scent was stronger than ever, so new and eerie that it was almost entrancing. With each second he spent nearby the home, Nero got more and more curious about what hid in there. What kind of beast was it? Was it another demon, like him? He highly doubted that, as he had spent his early life breathing in a land infested by demons, and it was nowhere similar to this smell. It was something completely new... And that attracted Nero. He could not wait any more.

At a steady pace, he approached the entrance of the peaceful home, rising his tattoo-covered hand towards the door, only to knock lightly several times as the music faded, leaving only silence and the muffled voices from within. A conversation was taking place, which meant Nero had interrupted something... Not like it mattered to him, really. His curiosity was far too strong for him to hold back, and the rain was starting to annoy him seriously.

It truly was an oddity. For the first time, as the moment of silence stretched after the play, Aegis felt... calm. Very slowly, the natural realization seeped into him; he had simply never played as well before. For as long as that quiet moment trundled by, he wondered what it was that he had expressed through those steady keystrokes. A useless struggle. What passed remains in the past -- why bother seek it? Aegis almost laughed at the irony of it.

The knight opened his eyes. With his attention back to reality, he could hear Artoria's faint breathing, hear the sound of fabric sliding as she lifted herself. And feel her eyes bore in the back of his head. Regardless, perhaps intoxicated by what art he had made, the cyan-haired man's calm composure was hardly even chipped.
After weeks, Artoria awoke, yet this time it seemed as though she had forgotten his name. Could it be that her little memory abandoned her? It was almost too much to hope for and even as he thought it, a small voice in his head wailed in shock, muttering about cruelty. Aegis wanted to laugh at that too, but in stead he merely stayed as he was, seated away from the girl clad in the gentle flicker of the hearth. He couldn't have moved even if he wanted to. Even unseen, that emerald gaze never failed to transfix him.
"No," he began, his voice reverberating richly with a touch of exasperation. "It was someone else. I'm not so kind hearted as to give my only bed to a damsel just because she knows how to faint cutely." And then, painfully slowly, the knight became aware of what he had just said. It was so unlike him to talk like this -- what was it, wry humour? Bah! -- and yet, for the Nth time, Aegis was completely unable to contrive an adequate response to even the most basic comment. Damn those eyes! He managed to stop a tongue-clicking dead in its tracks. There was not a need to show any more emotion than he already had. And then he sighed unconsciously, causing him to groan before sharply bolting straight from his chair, hands on the piano. "Hhh..! Your very presence irritates me. Can't you j-..."

How could he have been so blind? The knight was so preoccupied with that foolishness that he never even noticed the signs of approach. The faint crunching of grass, the squishing sounds of boots on sodden earth. It did not matter if there was a thunderstorm to cover them, his ears could distinguish the sound of a fly's snoring during the apocalypse. Yet he failed now, which meant he had no time to waste.
Only then did Aegis half-turned, his face in clear view of Artoria though it was pointed at the wall farthest from both of them, where the door lay. There was only a moment's worth before it was potentially too late. He had to be fast. Knock.
In that eye wrenching dimness, two violet eyes suddenly flashed, gradiently shifting to a glowing, pure white, and Aegis snarled. Knock.
Only a single moment had passed, but it was all he needed. The boards beneath his feet cracked as his figure blurred, shooting for the rickety door with speed so great the darkness seemed to fall behind. It was only about 3 meters until the door, a good couple of strides for anyone, but the knight managed to cross the entire length with just one and, as he dug his heel right in front of his destination, the momentum carried his right arm as it, quite simply, went right through the wooden entrance in an explosion of splinters. His fingers coiled around the throat of the intruder before the cyan magus twisted to fling him against the opposite wall inside the hut. Then he followed, pinning the man to the wall with his foot just as he slid down it, and pressed the tip of a sword blade to his throat, seemingly having appeared in his hand out of thin air. The dim light of the hearth only just managed to reach his face, illuminating the left half of it. Revealing an expression of unreadable stone. The kind of stone that might just collapse on top of you if you so much as thought the wrong thing.
And just like that, the stone cracked into a small but menacing smile. "So, what brings a demon to my home?"

Seru couldn't help but sigh and frown slightly.  If it wasn't obvious enough, Aegis really didn't like her.  So much so that despite it being difficult to annoy Seru, he was getting on her nerves.  If he really disliked her that much, why did he look after her when she was unconscious and why did he continue to belittle himself?  She didn't understand it in the least, though despite it annoying her, she was still curious about it.  At the very least, she wanted him to see himself differently.  She didn't really respond to anything he had said, not really sure what to tell him, so she would only listen.  He didn't complete his second sentence, however.

She had noticed the presence approaching, though apparently he hadn't till almost the very last moment.  She hardly the presence, though; perhaps she was naive, however, Aegis didn't take too much of a fond approach towards it.  In mere seconds, he had broken the door, threw the man across the room and had his sword pointed at him...  For what reason?  A demon?  The man certainly had a very unusual appearance, certainly, though she didn't see anything that could classify him as such.  Aegis appeared to be very irritated based off of the actions Seru witnessed so far, but was it truly that bad?

She could see that he truly would kill the man if it kept on going like this.  She could feel the killing intent; it was beyond anything she ever felt before.  If it had been anyone else, they'd surely be frozen in fear, though she would not allow Aegis to kill anyone as he pleased.  Drawing upon a power she felt upon her awakening, she was lightly covered in cyan energy that appeared like lightning.  She didn't know what she was doing, but...  She knew she could stop Aegis before he did anything rash.  Using this newfound power, she was able to immediately dash from her bed next to Aegis and as she did so, the name Excalibur went through her head, causing a blade to appear in her hand as she arrived next to him.  She swung and hit Aegis' blade, not with the intention to fight, but to move it away.

It all took her less than a quarter of a second.

Just as quickly as the power came, however, it disappeared.  The sword that was in her hand also disappeared into a white light and Seru remained there, looking at Aegis straight in the eyes, though unlike her previous looks at him, she now had a stern face, and shook her head once.  "Do not harm or kill others without good cause.  I don't know what this really is, but... " her expression relaxed and she was almost smiling again, "I'd prefer not to see people die." Aegis was unpredictable. She was fully aware of that at this point. However, she didn't truly feel like he was a bad person, or maybe he was, she couldn't know, but she decided to put some faith in him, regardless.

    Jackpot.

As per usual, Nero's senses had not failed to satisfy him. He had indeed led himself into an interesting scene, in the company of two rather peculiar subjects. His desire to understand, to know what was going on there, was immense, reaching limits Nero had not reachd anytime before. The very second he set foot before the house, he had it crystal clear that perhaps whatever was inside the building wouldn't go easy on him, mostly due to his eyecatching defect, which pretty much gave away his lineage. However, nothing mattered to him, as long as he managed to unveil the story. What situation hid behind the walls of this place? It was hard to tell from the outside. But on the inside? That'd be easy. However, what happened next was perhaps... excessive.

Before Nero could even notice, before he could even react, what had been the door before him broke into pieces. Amidst the mess of splinters and wood, a human hand reached forward, its fingers wrapping around Nero's neck, lifting him from the ground and sending him towards the opposite wall. The speed at which everything happened was so incredible, that the only thing that made Nero realise what had just happened, connect the puzzle pieces, was the sharp pain in the back of his head, caused by the impact of his body against the wall. Gladly, he would heal any wounds this random encounter had caused him in little to no time, but it was crystal clear that every concussion on his body would hurt like hell until the healing process finished. As Nero cursed internally, though, his agressor didn't waste his time; before the demon could even try to get up, he found himself pinned against the wall, a blade against his throat. Now that's bothersome. Could it be? Perhaps Nero had finally found someone as psychotic as himself, someone as violent someone with his mindset... What his aggressor didn't know was, that Nero had no intention to hurt him.

In fact, while the entire scene took place, Nero kept his cool. A calm, collected face, eyes empty from all emotion, filled only with a cold, calculating stare, Nero refused to show weakness before the man. No man could permit himself to do that, for fear was the worst emotion someone could show during an encounter. His hands next to his body, Nero swallowed silently, the cold steel brushing his skin. Do not fret, sir. I do not plan to cause any harm to you, or the lady. Though it may seem weird for someone of my race to say this, but I don't seek to harm people. I enjoy peace. Nero spoke in a flat voice, not altering for a second, keeping his calm. He couldn't allow the man before him to see his emotions, mostly not in this situation. However, mere seconds after Nero had finished his speech, the beautiful blonde woman he had seen for a fragment of a second as he flew past her dashed towards the duo, her sword moving the man's away from Nero's neck. The momentary distraction gave Nero enough time to react in his own way. The room was covered in shadows, something that was rather benefitting for the demon. With a mischievous smirk on his face, one that was barely noticeable, the ebony-haired demon began blending with the shadows, making it seem as if he had dissapeared, though that was not the case. He had simply changed his location.

Free from his agressor and on his feet, Nero fixed his soaking wet hair, standing behind the male. As long as there were shadows in the room, he could escape, he could destroy everything if he wanted, though the only thing he wanted for the time being, was to be able to move around. Being pinned to the wall wasn't exactly his kind of thing. Thank you, mademoiselle. It is pleasant to see that people with such a noble heart live. Giving her a wide, charming smile, Nero moved his eyes to the man, his smile fading only to a shy grin. He had to get on his good side, or he'd have many problems with this man. The power that he sensed coming from the man was immense, it was scary how mighty this male was. What type of creature was he? The speed, the strength... It was too supperior to a human's. I believe this bad beginning is my fault entirely, perhaps my approach was incorrect. Anyhow; allow me to introduce myself properly. I am Nero, son of Ilytria, and I am indeed a demon. A ghoul, to specify. As he mentioned his mother's name, a flame of hatred shined in his eyes for a second before fading, as fast as it had appeared. In the meanwhile, the charming smile on his lips never faded, though on the inside, bad memories were invading him. He had to remind himself to focus on the situation at hand, because if not he risked too much.

I do not want to cause any harm to you, I promise. I was seeking shelter from the rain as, although I am used to the flames and heat of Sin, or what you know as Hell, I most certainly dislike rain. It leaves you soaking, and that's not pleasant. If my presence is bothersome, I can leave.

Aegis merely remained as he was. His eyes remained fixed on the spot where the demon -- Nero -- had been, yet he wasn't seeing anything. In stead, the knight was stunned by what he felt as both his mind and his hand faintly ached. The latter was because of the shock of impact that, regardless of whether Artoria even realized, was with sufficient force to punch through a castle wall; yet the true shock was what caused Aegis' headache. While the speed with which she moved was nothing to scoff at, Aegis alone seemed to realize how she did it and, truly, it made him wonder if his situation can be any more inexplainable. Finding someone, who's been dead for countless years suddenly wake up in a field is one thing, but having that same person also randomly reaching godspeed through imperfect Leyline Traversal was too much. Not to mention that her blow actually bent the weapon in Aegis' hand. He has been able to cut stone with that particular sword, and parry meteors. And it bent at a single move from the golden-haired enigma.

Very slowly, very meticulously, Aegis lifted his left hand, gently dragging it to his face where its fingers shaped to squeeze the base of his nose, the point where the eyebrows end. Very slowly, very meticulously, he sighed. Stay focused and patient he thought, then steeled his composure again. Though the azure magus was unaware of what the others saw as they beheld that strange situation, he knew that it was far deeper than anyone might imagine. A puzzle, no doubt, the key to which was no where in sight. He barely even realized he had moved the hand near his chin, like he always does when deep in thought. There was still the matter of the anomaly which first brought him to that meadow, yet he somehow felt that Artoria's current state took precedence over it. Had she truly just Channeled? There was no sure way to know yet, but something whispered to Aegis that what had just happened was a very important clue; he would not forget it.

Calmly, the knight waited for silence to return to the room. He allowed it to linger for a while, so that both other parties might have time to shift their focus from talking to realizing what was happening -- to what end that was, he'd let them find their own answers. He had cracked his composure one time too many for a period too short, and it was most definitely not going to happen again.
Turning towards the golden-haired girl, he met her eye for eye. It was the first time he had managed to do it and the achievement made him wonder how a girl he towered over always felt like she was at least as big as he. How could those eyes remind him so, of a sad smile... no, he mentally lashed himself, stopping the train of thought dead in its track. He could not afford to lose himself to stupid things like that again.

"You are wise to not trust my words," he began in a voice so soft that it could be nothing short of menacing. Even though the knight was looking at her sideways, his vibrant eyes seemed to shine with a strange light behind them, unreadable though no less bright. "Yet had he been a fragment of Chaos, you would have been dead on the floor by now, because of your foolishness." It was almost as if that persistent peer, despite showing no sign of aggression, hammered each word into her without relent. "Luckily for you, he is nothing so deadly. A creature like him cannot kill me" intoned Aegis, taking a moment to glance at his bent sword before discarding it. "... Or you."

Steady and with regal calm, Aegis moved to face Nero squarely. The way he locked the brazen demon down with his piercing stare, you'd expect that no one else existed in the room. The knight held himself like a stone wall; back straight and body -- a picture of casual impeccability.
"You are a creature that devours human flesh in order to survive." Aegis' deep baritone resonated with his words, enriching their meaning with unspoken implications, yet behind his stony expression he knew that, if what he suspected was true, it could be nothing short of Destiny's ploy that brought such a fated encounter. The magus was well aware of just how helplessly mired he was in those cunning weaves, steadily pushing him towards an uncertain future.
Perhaps that was why the words that followed came out so easily.

A lightning crashed outside, setting fire to the midnight sky. It's light grazed the knight's chiseled figure, clad from the waist up only in a tight-fitting leather vest. As if on cue, with the death of thunder subsided the roaring winds outside, leaving behind only a booming silence.

"And following her awakening, I am this girl's guardian."

    A booming silence,

"From this moment onward, I intend to kill any threat to her."

    and as if on cue,

"So I ask you one more time. Why are you here, demon?"

the torrent of Fate blew across the room, sweeping around the three figures dressed in moonlight darkness.

    Chapter II: Reset 44b6685ce7

'Darkness; in reality is nothing more but the mere absence of Light...'

Tresses of brilliant light penetrated even the darkest folds of the night, illuminating the horizon much like a candle in a hallway. Drowning in a sea of rain, and fighting the deafening sounds of winds comparable to a hurricane, a single iron clad knight could be seen in the distance. Carried by a pair of strong wings, her approach was masked by the thunderous roars of the angered sky.

The wind carried strands of silver hair away from her pale face. Only her bangs remained at rest in her pursuit, furnished by the ornate circlet that surrounded her crown; a gift from her father, the ornament served no purpose other than a statement amongst her peers of superiority. As if her regal and refined facade did not place her in that role to begin with.

As a true hunter in the sky, the woman stalked her prey atop her prized beast. Her Amethyst orbs scanned the setting, the shadowy figures of the earth barely visible to her naked eye. Her heart was as stone as the expression on her face, which could only be described as unnerving. She was neither cold hearted, or cruel, merely determined by the path she had placed in front of her.

A split moment of light erupted in the dark, carving out the mere details of the land, and allowing her to spot the awaiting target. Masked by a plethora of tree was she able to make out the imagery of her suspect. With the encouraging sound of thunder at her back, she eyed the small hut that rested un-suspicious of her arrival. The faint sounds of words could be heard from the quaint construct, protruding even past the billowing sounds of the beast Hecate, who now breathed heavily from her exhaustion of flight.

Circling overhead the woman prepared herself, reaching past her shoulder blades to retrieve her weapon, being a long decorated spear, one that resembled the fashion of her armor. The tip gleamed from what little rays of light could reach it, the intimidating edge of the small blade atop suddenly beginning to glow as a large circle enveloped the area in front of the weapon. Its decoration was intricate, labeling it as a Magic Circle; one that mages like herself used to relay their abilities.

With spear in hand, she pointed at the small hut, taking aim on her cornered prey, and while steadfast atop her mount, she would fire upon the unsuspecting residents inside. From her spear, a orb of condensed unfathomable power grew from the size of a tear drop to the magnitude of a small asteroid. The swirling mass of hatred and malcontent radiated a powerful aura, one that easily compared to the striking chaos of a volcano. Basking in her own power she hesitated as the power hung on her spear, its dark hazy shade still somehow illuminating the immediate area around her.

With all intent of destruction, she released the power. The swirling mass of chaos that once sat at the end of her weapon now hurled itself in direction of the small shack that rested carelessly amongst a sea of trees.

    However.

It seemed her brief moment of hesitation caused her to lose sight of her objective, and as the soaring black sphere made contact with the near countryside, it's engulfing explosion lit up her prey once more, in which she would make sure she would not miss again.

The sudden impact was strong enough to topple half of the scarce furniture in the shack, though how a massive carved wood cabinet fell while the half-rotten walls did not was beyond explanation. Aegis managed to catch himself before staggering, but his attention was already focused and blade-sharp. There was no time to waste on surprise. The knight closed his eyes and mentally reached out to the surrounding area, feeling as if with a thousand tendrils at once for anything that might give him a clue. He could tell that the impact in question had happened quite a ways off, which means that the scale must have been large. Someone strong had attacked, yet missed? Clearly a warning shot, or perhaps a challenge, but why? No one attacks an abandoned-looking hut without a reason; pin-pointing the location of the impact -- a few hundred meters away from them, as it seemed -- the knight traced the faint residues of magic back to their origin, then scoffed.

Pushing the small toppled table away, Aegis straightened his back, showing no cracks in composure as he surveyed the damage to his home. Well, perhaps that wasn't quite true, as his eyes first went for Seru's figure, briefly acknowledging that she's alive and well. Yet he considered. The puzzle in on his hands grew more tangled by the moment, new pieces emerging at each turn. He'd have to talk to her soon and, if he can only retain his ability to face her, some questions might be answered easily.
Pushing the thoughts away, Aegis slowly paced to the empty door frame, eyes cast down.

"You know, Artoria, you really are a handful." A sudden change of pressure shook the structure visibly. "For once in my life I'd appreciate it if I can have just one normal moment of peace." Calmly, Aegis stepped outside. As more bolts streaked across the sky, the sharp blue light crashed against his hard figure as if waves against a stone cliff. In the brief moment of it all the countless scars on his arms were visible.

"It's always like this. Just at the brink of respite, something always happens. And now..." despite the deep darkness, Aegis' vibrant violet eyes pierced space, clearly seen as they focused on the shadowy figure floating above. "... I have you."

    Time seemingly stopped.
    Raindrops frozen in space.
As if the air itself quivered,
    When the Azure-clad smirked.
And it was in that moment,
    Dressed in Heaven's thunder,
that the knight reached out for the skies.

With an unheard thunder of explosion, as if indescribable pressure was suddenly released, all trees surrounding the azure-haired magus bent to the ground, some snapping like twigs. Though the downpour never ceased, the raindrops around him seemed to resist gravity, struggling to slow their descent, to run away as far as possible from the shadow-clad figure. Were they, too, gripped by the swirl of destiny?
Aegis' hand cut through the air, as if giving a signal. Right on cue, a hurricane wind swirled around him and with it, the ground abruptly exploded upwards. As if rejected by the earth, all of the water that had been soaking the forest's floor where he stood suddenly burst upwards in a massive jet, a mighty bolt of lighting splitting it right down the center at the same time, creating a water tornado with the knight at its eye.

"Oh, I've had enough irritants for a whole life time."

Like a bullet, Aegis' blurred figure shot upwards through the tornado, scattering the water in all directions like a meteor scattering the air around itself. He burst from its top, easily carried by his momentum to a point at least twice the altitude of his foe's, but it wasn't until a massive number of lightnings ripped the clouds behind him that his form was obvious.
One could only stare in awe at the sight. Clad in a carapace of metal, as if the armour was fused with his body, the knight slowly outstretched his arm towards the attacker. It looked like he was being carried upwards by a steady draft -- and perhaps he was? For if he once appeared relatively normal, the Aegis now perched upon the skies bore wings alongside his armour, yet even that realization seemed to fade before the vibrant sheen of the sword in the outstretched hand. It was as if no matter how hard one focused, the blade's exact shape subtly hazed eye-wrenchingly, impossible to discern.
And now that blade, glowing in a faint blue mist, was aimed straight for the transgressor.

"No one attacks those under my protection."

Steadily, the angelic figure gripped his weapon to the side and, with a thunderous crashing sound, he surged towards his target. Behind him, only a rippling haze remained, like waves in a pond, spreading wider. In the wake of such a divine charge, even reality seemed to bend.

    REPENT!

Post by Nero_ 6th August 2016, 8:51 am

    [
    ]

This guy is most certainly beginning to piss me off.

Nero hated drama with a burning passion. And people who acted all dramatic? Even worse. Scarlet orbs staring at the man he had just met, Aegis, the demon could not help it, but drop the smile that had danced on his lips mere seconds ago. So, his sweet words could not fool this pair... That was most certainly a first, but, anything could happen in life, really. At any case, if the masks had fallen... Hence there was no reason to still try to keep the show up at this point. A click of his tongue, a demonstration of his annoyance, in a blink, Nero merged once more with the shadows, moving to a wall nearby Aegis and the woman who seemed to be called Artoria. Folding his hands before his chest, scarlet orbs glowing with mischief, the ghoul stood there and watched the scene unfold before him. What was this play? It seemed like there was a complex scenario, a difficult relationship between his hosts, one that Nero's simple mind could not understand, as hard as he tried. Though seconds ago, there seemed to be some sort of... harsh feelings between them, the man, Aegis, still swore to protect her. How foolish was he? If you were uncomfortable around someone, why bother to protect them? It seemed as such a stupid, knightly action. It brought painful memories back. Memories of her. The cheerful, scarlet haired girl, who had fought over and over with her parents, so they could accept the ghoul in their house. The little, noble knight who had sworn on her life, that Nero was no danger to the family.

The little, redhaired girl, who he had met once again after so many years... And whose life he had mercilessly taken.

Aegis repeated himself, asking once again what business Nero had here. Exhaling slowly, the ebony-haired male tried to keep his cool, taking his hair out of the ponytail it was usually kept in, playing with his soaked locks absentmindedly. That man... He was wrong if he thought Nero was going to reveal his intentions to a complete stranger; though it was true that he wasn't going to do any harm to the pair. While he could still consume it, the flesh and blood of supernatural beings had a wicked, sickening taste. Like human food. I appreciate the speech, Cyanide, nobody has entertained me so well in quite a few. Nero's voice resonated between inside the cabin, its tone and nature changing completely. The calm, quiet voice he had a few ago, the charming words had dissapeared, letting out a mocking voice, soaked in the purest arrogance to exist on this world. Though his voice was husky and appealing as ever, there was a note in it, the smallest note, the change in the tone and the arrogance, that made his voice seem... Menacing, as if it wasn't a calm man speaking, but a ruthless assassin, which, honestly, wasn't far from the truth. Honestly, I'm sorry to have to rain on your parade, but I have came here to seek shelter... And investigate. I sensed supernatural, powerful beings... And it caught my interest. Satisfied? Oh, and about me eating people...

Nero stopped in his tracks, a look of pure surprise drawing on his face for a second. His senses were probably going insane. Impossible... What was this feeling? He could feel someone else approaching... It was still extremely faint, as if he, or she, was still far away, but at the same time, it came from above, from the sky above the hut, as if the creature, whatever it was, was soaring through the night sky. It was most certainly human, but it had the ability to induce a feeling of dread inside Nero. Only one type of creatures could do that to him... And demons weren't on good terms with them. Shaking the feeling off, hoping that, whatever was approaching would pass by, Nero turned back to his hosts, the same arrogant expression occupying his face once more, erasing all sign of dread or surprise that had momentarily appeared on his face. My source of nutrients isn't your business, Cyanide. My curse is not something you're allowed to judge. I cannot consume human food, since it would have horrid effects on me. Imagine a foolish human consuming Hydrochloric acid or any superacid. It would burn me to death, corrode me. And I want to live. Plus, supernatural flesh disg-.

Before Nero could finish his sentence, a bright light flashed and, before he could react, do anything to stop it, the small hut was in pieces. The brightness blinded the demon, causing him to take his hand to his face, hiding from the light. He hated brightness. A hundred obscenities and curses ran through his head, some so creative that people would be surprised. He had no cursed idea about what was going on, everything seemed to have succumbed into chaos. The only thing he knew was, that he could hear a familiar voice. The flashing light began to fade, allowing shadows to creep back into the hut, making a feeling of safety take over Nero. He was in his territory. Separating from the wall, the demon looked up, only to see Aegis facing whatever creature had just attacked them. His eyes scanning the scenery, the scarlet orbs of the demon landed upon Artoria, the woman who had saved his poor existance a few minutes ago. Although Nero had the feeling that she could protect herself, he felt like returning the favor. Blending with the shadows, until his body became one with his surrounding, literally, the ghoul dashed at astonishing speed, reaching the female in a fraction of a second. Stepping out of the realm of the shadows, his eyes focused on the woman in the sky, Nero glanced at Artoria, his voice giving up his hesitation as he spoke.

I'm... pretty sure you can defend yourself and are an actually amazing warrior, mademoiselle, but you saved me earlier, and I believe its my turn to return the favor. If things get too heated here, I'm taking you out, got it? You seem to mean a lot to Cyanide... Nero acting as a hero was weird. And pathetic. And insanely stupid. Why was he making an effort in protecting someone who wasn't related to him in any way? Why was he doing something that he had always hated? At the same time, though... The girl had protected him. She had not judged him too quick for being who he was, though her friend had done so. She had done nothing wrong. She did have a noble heart, and due to it being so unusual, mostly for Nero, it was appreciated.

    Very appreciated.
