Today marks the fifth day on my travels to the Spooky Forest, and now it's finally in view, looming and swaying like any normal forest, but immediate darkness follows any opening in the trees. "This looks like it'll be fun, don't you think Luce?" Turning, I look over at Luce Vivaldeen, a complicated mage from the Golden Phoenix, who unerringly stands out, not speaking much, but has this cold stare that kind of makes me wonder what's up with her, but I'm not going to ask... "Anyway, we need to find these Rune Knights, and/or what happened to them, are you ready to go?" Waiting for a couple of minutes without response, I scoff and run in first, and I don't look back. After a fair distanced run, about ten minutes worth, I think, I look around me and I notice something: I am in the middle of a copse of trees, and I don't know where I am. "Oh no. Oh no, Oh no Oh no..." I'm prancing, pacing, and muttering all at the same time. "I wish I hadn't run off like that..." I'm looking around, and a small red blotch I notice on the unfamiliar, yet everywhere, grey trees, small enough to be a human's blood splatter, but there's a hand print in it, with the letters Lt JL written amidst it. "Did he write this? (duh, stop asking silly questions, self.)" I then resolve myself and look around, breathe deeply, and set off into the forest to find more clues.

"Seems so, Lady Aera." she'd say, nodding ever so slightly.
The great yonder of that day presented itself in the form of an unbeknownst adventure, far into the depths of a fearsome forest. The willowy branches stretched overhead into a thorny canopy, blocking the moonlight as it was, ceasing its entrance apart from the small spaces between each tree, leaking a bit of eerie white light as they traversed the withered path.
Luce was not a woman to know fear simply from atmosphere alone, something she'd attribute to the ungodly mechanisms devised especially for her becoming into Mistress Bree's retainer. There, fear was nothing but a fleeting fire, fickle and easily snuffed out, and even then, without the possibility of a threat, the retainer felt a steady ease as she escorted her current job partner with a servant's tenacity, as the entire charade was to her mistress' bidding, and an unwritten vow acted as the staple for most of her decisions, such was the example.
Though the request itself had not been a bother for the maid, it wasn't exactly up her expertise, for she favored something more endearing in terms of opponents, as fighting spirits didn't seem compatible with the Realities. Yet she'd often take these circumstances with a more positive thought, and she soon settled on a simple thought, mewling over the possibility of ethereal entities being bound by the strings of Realities.
She'd keep her steps a little far behind her accomplice, watching the moonlight pool around her white colors, which were honestly bringing an untold sense of nostalgia in the retainer, as mistress Bree had the same hair, and it wasn't surprising that her lips would tilt a little whenever the girl would turn around.
As such, the venture was primarily limited to Luce adorning her best words and keeping her limbs tucked, her stance taut and her senses ever sharp, the howls of the night creeping on silent cat feet.

Looking all around me, the trees look like they grow thicker, a dense fog sets on the scene around me, and crackling noises start into a sort of cacophonous din, thundering around me like selective thunder. "Anyone there?" I whisper, shaking "Please?" I scoff . Looking around, I can make out human shapes, but only their shapes, since they were near-completely shrouded in opaque shadows. "Luce?" I called... "My word! Stop hoping for something that you know won't happen?" I looked around whipping my head side to side,
"Who is there!?" I shouted, panicking slightly. "I'm no one, you irksome bug." it spoke in a very demanding double tenor, and it hurt my head listening to it. "Get out of my head." As I shouted this into oblivion, the voice left, laughing. On its way out, I listened around me, since I was excessively oblivious to my surroundings and heard...

footsteps dancing in circles all around me, laughing, and at one point I thought I heard Luce in a distant voice say something, but it was in a tone too low under the rest of the noise to where I couldn't hear her. "Luce? If you can hear me, please come find me!" I screamed, hoping to get my voice through the deafening cacophony of noise. I sat down on a tree stump, and closed my eyes, with my hand over my ears. "Please be quiet" I begged, over and over and over, but it wouldn't stop, the laughing thundered even louder in response to my pleas, laughing and squealing in delight. I started feeling angrier and angrier, the noise deafening me.
"Silence!" I screeched, leaving the noise around me... silent. In an exhausted exhilaration, I sat down again, resting my head against a tree, and waited for a moment, quietly breathing. "Let's be more careful now, then." I breathed cautiously, got up and walked onwards, leaving behind nothing but imprints in the grass.

There were forces enacting upon them with a malice indescribable by words alone, as they were voices of the damned that encouraged fear with the way their intentions flickered, how the candle lights of bravery blurred under their dark urges. Luce had held a palpable sense of control over what the voices wished to conquer, respite drawling on in her head without a sign of stopping. Awareness was a limited term then as the atmosphere grows heavy in the presence of the impending darkness, though she had already previously prepared for such a haste beforehand, producing a lone knife from her skirt's secret compartment. The retainer immediately carved a thin wound over her arm, the sharp pain electrifying her nerves to a certain amount where it was possible for her to resist the voices through gritted teeth.
Aera had not been fortunate, as she noticed, tucking the blade back into its former space as she approached her comrade's shivering form a few steps ahead with an undeniable haste. Luce would grab the girl by her shoulders and shake her violently, beckoning to the soul inside to release itself from the shackles of such malefic entities.
"Lady Aera, please, fight it!" she'd say, but all in naught.
Having been pushed to the brink of insanity was not a good position for either of them, so in an attempt to quell the forces, Luce eased her partner's form closer to her chest, carried in her arms as she took action to flee, all the while fending off the laughter that circulated around the rotting treetops.

"Where am I?" there's nothing but trees, fog, and the echoing voices around me, chasing, but quiet. "Luce? Where are you?"Everything here is similar, and it makes it feel like I'm walking in circles."Was I..?" Why does everything look the same? "Where am I?!" I shriek in an unimaginable rage, tromping around, and finally, ripping a few branches off of a tree, and placed them in a square in a clearing north of me, and walked upon a... path? Since when did I find the path? This isn't right... "Why is..." I started saying, but then I saw images flit between the trees, running in circles around me, and they started moving so fast, that when I blinked, I'm hunched over, with an arm huddling me close saying: "Lady Aera, please, fight it!" in a determined whisper. ""Thanks, Luce."I whispered, barely breathing. "I needed this." and my eyelids close, holding Luce close. The noises continued, but now that I'm not alone, they don't bother me right now.

A sharp churning sensation housed itself silently within her gut, gnawing at the interior of her rib cage as the fair-haired maiden clung to her tightly. It had been akin to the pain that followed her as her mistress laid in rest within her arms in the same position, curled up closely to her chest. A fleeting expression of grimace marred her previously untarnished stare, though it was later replaced by a cautious gaze that fretted about to and fro between the spaces in the trees, seeking out any potential threats as she continued to blaze her way towards a nearby clearing.
In return, her response would be that of increasing her running speed, finding solace in Lady Aera's warmth as if it was her own, both heads gleaming a frothy silver under the uncanny pale light of a crescent moon. Her breathing was ragged as it was hot and puffy, flowing steadily from her chapping lips as her legs begin to slowly tire. Yet she is prompted to keep running as a ghastly aura reaches for her figure, breathing whispers from the shadows.

This cracking noise is emanating from-*crack* from seemingly everywhere around me and Luce, grows and fades, whipping my head from side to side, I felt the fleeting feeling of calm I felt not a moment before flee my body, and was eviscerated by the tension filling this twisted land. "Luce, let's go"I whispered, Moving into her stride with the simplest ease, we run until Luce begins slowing, exhaustion telling in her over-worked legs, and her breath mirroring my own. I look around amidst our run, and I see not only the palest outline of a phantasm, slowly creeping its way toward Luce, but I see, in the middle of a copse of trees, a small pile of unmoving figures, lying like broken marionettes, or mannequins. "Luce!" I whisper vehemently, "Look!" I pointed down towards the copse, and something... Something that wasn't there before was standing atop the bodies...
was a shadowed figure, standing just beyond my sight, staring at me, looking me down. I pull Luce away from the clearing next to the copse, and I pull her back into a run. "No, no, no, no..." I kept running, and running, until Neither me nor Luce could keep running anymore, and we were no longer anywhere where we could recognize.
