Job: Monster Hunt: The Dark Fetus.
Rank: 100y
Player Requirements: 1 H or 3 S min. Can be attempted solo. This job may be done a maximum of 1 time for each Earthland nation.
At least one Grim Heresy member.
Job Requirements: 75 posts total, 525 word minimum, so long as you meet the job goals.
Job Description:
Hunt a Dark Fetus. Location: 1 in each Earthland nation. Only 1 is the target of this job.
Grim Heresy has come to the knowledge of the existence of a new type of entity and have theorized that they are the product of human civilization and the collective conscious of society.
These creatures are demi-deities, unable to fully form, unable to mature. Unable to truly live. Yet they exist, and have been forming since the dawn of Sin, since the majority of monsters we know today were brought into existence. With that magic came these entities, starting as tiny eggs and growing slowly, formed and sustained by civilization.
The more they form, the more power they gain. They are already strong enough in their fetus-like state to rival the most powerful of mages. If allowed to fully mature, given who knows how many more centuries, they will some day emerge from their dens as fully fledged deities capable of magic on a cosmic scale, if Earthland even survives that long to see them as such.
Grim Heresy has taken it upon themselves to eradicate this threat... And harvest the hearts of these demi-deities.
To find a Dark Fetus, the job-goers must discover its whereabouts over the course of 25 total posts.
To determine this, they must physically travel to the country in question and travel it. They need to keep their senses open and their minds free. Simply by knowing of the existence of a Dark Fetus makes it aware of your existence and unlocks a new "Sixth Sense" that draws the mind to certain conclusions and will eventually lead you to the den of the Fetus if you pay attention to the sense and actively think about and imagine the creature.
The closer one gets to discovering the Dark Fetus, the more ominous everything seems to feel. A subtle chill in the air. A grayness to the world. Light doesn't seem as effective. People seem less happy to your eyes and there is a sense of melancholy.
As you approach the Den itself, the world seems gray. Everything about it. Color. Light. Mood. Everything feels just gray. Like reality itself is changing. It is just your perception however, as those who are unaware of the Dark Fetus seem fine.
At the den, you must find out how to open the den. How to gain access to it. This usually has something to do with local folklore and have relevance to the country itself. It can be moving a certain way between trees. Traveling from one side of city to another in a particular order, winding down different alleys. It could be arranging rocks a certain way. It could be digging up specific graves in some order.
At this point, the process needed to open the den feels instinctual. Were you to let go of your mind and logic and just feel the flow of things, go with instinct, you might find yourself doing it without thinking about it.
Once done, the Den is unlocked. The sky vanishes, becoming black, clouds remaining visible against the blackness. All life seems entirely colorless and still. Nothing moves except for those who are aware of the Dark Fetus.
The Fetus itself appears to slowly rise up from the ground as though the ground were immaterial to it. It hovers and floats free from physical laws, it deciding its own place in the world. It is approximately 15 meters tall.
The Fetus is considered both a Deity/god and an Undead horror.
The Fetus takes 15 hits of H-rank damage to defeat.
Rising Madness: Every post in which a character witnesses the Dark Fetus, they take 5% Sanity damage. Every 10% Sanity Damage causes a mental ailment to form. God Slayers, demonic or undead characters, mages with the ability to cause similar sanity damage, or necromantic characters take only 1%. If a character matches three of these conditions they are immune.
Every 40% Sanity Damage the character gains one Mental Ailment as a permanent mental condition (which can be an ailment already gained as a temporary ailment)
To determine what happens in a post, roll the monster dice + the number dice. One roll (Both monster and number) per person.
Suggested that rolls be posted in a separate topic with the same title as the job + "Rolls" in the title.
Weak:
Even Number:
The Dark Fetus disappears instantly. If an attack is to be made in the post, it disappears to dodge it. So instantly the mind may not register the suddenness of its absence. It appears somewhere within 100 meters of the roller. If another roller rolled this, it then appears near them in succession on their post.
After appearing/within the same moment of appearing it makes an attack, with no apparent movement by the fetus, that directly attacks your heart. It deals an unavoidable A-rank equivalent damage. To some characters, this may not apply. In which case the Fetus already knows this and instead causes a minor explosion to appear on the surface of your skin for unavoidable B-rank equivalent damage (Retaining AN advantage at least)
Odd Number:
The Dark Fetus seems to completely pause without action while a swirl of dark misty energy whirls around it in a circle.
Any damage it takes in this post gets mirrored back at full power. It still takes half the damage it would have.
Normal:
Even Number:
The Dark Fetus causes a black bolt of lightning to flicker in the air above the roller's head, not producing light but seemingly absorbing it, before shooting downwards at normal lightning speed (Near Instant) to deliver S-ranked damage. The Dark Fetus is healed for the same amount of damage as it deals.
Odd Number:
The Dark Fetus temporarily corrupts the mind of the rolling character. The rolling character still has some self-awareness and can attempt to reduce the effects. The character MUST make an attack against the nearest ally or themselves if none is present in the job. If the number rolled is less than the character's Age they may use an attack 2 ranks less than themselves. If it is within 50, the attack is 1 rank less. If the number is greater than 50 more than the character's age, they attack with a user-ranked effect. Once the effect is cast or the effect used, the character is themselves again. They take 15% sanity damage when effected by this. 5% if they would take reduced damage from the passive Sanity-Damage effect.
Strong:
Even Number:
The Dark Fetus sends a pulse of dark energy out from itself like a wide but thin ring. Undead creatures of 1 rank less than each player appears to emerge from the ground or comparable surface to attack each player, one for each. They take the same rank effectiveness in damage before being slain, and deliver that damage with melee attacks.
They aren't slow, but they aren't fast. They shuffle at brisk pace of 7m/s.
These creatures will continually self-resurrect when slain, coming back to life in 2 posts. Every time they resurrect, they create another version of themselves 1 rank less that emerges from the ground somewhere within 5 meters of it.
Odd Number:
The Dark Fetus emits a vaguely infant-like wailing that causes an immediate 5% sanity damage in all players. The next Even Weak attack deals twice the damage per player within 3 posts of this roll.
Boss:
Even Number:
The Dark Fetus seems to squirm and its skin-flesh seems to writhe from within. It opens its poorly-developed mouth wider than should be possible and a shadowy entity that looks as though it were made of tar climbs out, with shadowy vapors coming off of its body.
This figure shoots out towards the rolling character with arms outstretched at 250m/s.
If it makes contact, nothing can remove it other than the death of the Dark Fetus at which it evaporates.
That character will from here on out have a speed reduction reduction of 80% and the figure will actively try to perform opposite actions, trying to force your limbs opposite of what you are attempting to do meanwhile its head seems to stick to your own face. They are blind and deaf, incapable of speaking and this can suffocate the player over 3 posts, rendering then unconscious. When unconscious, the dark figure is in full control of the character (The player still controls them). The character will become black, the shadow figure forming a full coating across their entire body making the character look like a shadow version of themselves.
The figure can at this point tap into your own magic and use it, along with the body itself, to attack your allies.
If they do not/cannot suffocate, or while they suffocate, they take 10% Sanity Damage per post without the ability to resist it.
If it does not make contact, it will possess any undead-abominations on the field instead, augmenting them 1 rank in effectiveness and giving them a ranged shadow-tar attack that deals same-rank damage, flying at 100m/s, and reducing speed by 5% per hit.
Odd Number:
The Dark Fetus releases a spherical burst of dark energy that travels semi-slow at 50m/s (Thrown ball speed) out to an area of 500 meters. This sphere phases through any barrier that gets in the way that is not Holy-natured.
Any character that gets caught in this burst takes H-rank equivalent damage and the Dark Fetus heals the combined amount of damage it dealt. So if it hit six characters, it'd heal H+H+H+H+H+H equivalent damage.
Note: All damage to the environment or time-frozen individuals is reverted once the Fetus is slain and time resumes as though the fight never happened, minus effects lingering on those who fought.
Reward:
No jewel reward.
The godslayers blessing: The first time you slay a Dark Fetus, you become a godslayer (Title/literal/technicality, not the actual magic) you gain a +30% that can be assigned or broken up to any stat you choose. Regeneration stats only increase by 1% for every 5% and are still limited by maximum allowances. Resistance stats are 2.5% for every 5%. Mental stats are increased by 10% for every 5%. Sensory effects are increased by 25% for every 5%. (Different stats have different value and as such take more or less to increase).
The godheart: The Dark Fetus withers and turns to ash when slain, leaving behind this still beating heart. Attempts to destroy the heart and be done with it fail, as the heart constantly regrows within seconds wherever it was when destroyed.
Keeping this as a trophy serves the double purpose of keeping an eye on it.
The godheart allows the Guild Master to craft a single non-elemental spell of "User-Ranked. S-Max" that is relevant to the Fetus it was taken from.
Any member or character with the godslayers blessing with access to the trophy can obtain this spell.
The spell is single-use only until re-learned (similar to Urano Metro the first time Lucy used it). After learning it once IC re-learning it can be considered to have occurred off-screen as it were, but you'll have to do an initial topic where you first learn it.
Collecting multiple godhearts allows the creation of multiple spells, but only one spell can be held at a time by any one individual.
