Post by Shipping Goddess 13th August 2016, 8:40 am

So I was thinking about something 5 minutes ago and I really noticed something:

0-Post cooldown Signature Spells become a lot less effective when you are doing longer-post jobs, and ANY spell become ineffective when doing the word count method, as well as regenerative abilities, DoT spells, etc. Can there be a rule on jobs (This does NOT portain to PvP, because that would be a mess) that a certain word count could be considered 1 post when it comes to Spells?

What I mean by this is: Let's say we have a job that has a 500 word word count per post. If the rule on "job cooldowns" makes it that one "cooldown post" is 250 words then you would be able to perform a signature spell with 0 cooldown twice in that post, or go through 2 posts worth of cooldown. This would make longer jobs a hell of a lot easier to fling spells in when in combat.

"What about shorter jobs?" You say. Well if a job has a lesser word count per post than the "cooldown wc" is, then just simply go by normal cooldown rules. Let's say the "cooldown wc" is 250 words and a wc per post of a job is 200 words, then you'd just have to wait a normal post in order to use that.

This would also make doing the word count method a lot easier, as the wc method makes it all 1 post, or at least a very short amount of long AF posts. Under current cooldown rules if you were doing the wc method you'd only be able to use each spell in your arsenal only ONE TIME throughout the entire job.

As for a general "cooldown wc" I'd probably say 250 to 300 words would be optimal just because of how much actually goes on in 250 to 300 posts, unless someone just fills that with fluff. So how does this sound?

Kite and I asked Elyx something similar to this and he said that the word count of the next post, after the duration of the spell ends, counts toward the cool down amount.

So let me get this straight.

If the job is 200 words per post....
I unleash a spell with a duration of say three posts.
That duration is then 600 words basically?
Then if the cooldown is four posts i can use it 800 words later?

    Thats pretty damn sweet.

Though what about jobs that don't have a minimum words per post?

If this is something you can choose to do, I'm all for it.  But for people who post generally long posts in jobs, this may hamper some people if this became mandatory.

Considering outside of pvp you have the freedom to do as you wish I wouldn't really worry about it to much, nor have I in the past.

I doubt this will be strictly enforced outside of regulated events and pvp. I thi k when it c poo mes to jobs, the requirements just need to be met.

Even in PvP or events, I don't think word count should dictate how long a person's duration should be.  If it's mandatory during PvP or events, then people would be forced to make small, crappy posts instead of longer, more descriptive posts.  To be honest, all it does is disrupt a person's RP style.  I, personally, have a habit of writing anywhere between 500 words to 3000 words (give or take) and if one of my longer posts cause one of my requip spells to start and expire in a single post, then that's simply ludicrous.

I can see it for jobs if you elect to do so, but I don't particularly see why it would be something necessary otherwise. Because I'd rather not be limited to a crappy 200-300 word post in order to keep the duration on my armor. Sorry, but I have no intention to let the site's system change how I write.

The whole point of Signature Spells is that they are used freely.   They replace weapons for a reason,  you don't have a cooldown on swinging a sword or bashing someone with a shield and neither do you have a cooldown with using a Signature Spell.  That was the sole purpose of their creation and the reason they are supposed to be Simple

    quick question....

jobs, are pve yes? Well, yeah, so... general rule of thumb... I dont think even Seijin let alone any mods/admin would care if you disregarded CD/duras in a pve job scenario as so long as others in the job dont mind either. Thats just me though.

No one's bothered me about it, and while I don't infinitely use spells I don't tend to think of their CDs/durations too much and far less in word count method since the flow of time can fluctuate as well - something cool downs and durations don't really take into consideration. With events I can see them being a little more taken into consideration as there aren't great leaps of time, but if in a job hours or even a night passes then I don't see why pretty much any spell should be on cool down (or MP hasn't regenerated at all) without some self-imposed limitation on the job.
