Trials and tribulations~ [mission]

It was just another day, and Valerie was hanging off of a sadistically tall tower and rethinking her life choices.

Well, perhaps 'life choices' was a bit drastic. She was certainly regretting her decision to climb the monument that had been named Sky Tower, though. Surprisingly enough, this aptly named building reached all the way up into the clouds and had made her dizzy just to look at it. Up close and far above the ground, this feeling was much, much worse. For someone whose biggest fear was heights, she had made a terrible decision in choosing to climb to the top. Back when she had started the climb, curiosity had overridden fear and common sense as it usually tended to do for the girl. Curiosity was going to get her killed one of these days.

But that day was apparently not today.

Valerie managed to pull herself up to safety and cling pitifully to a sturdy pillar until her legs stopped doing their best impression of cooked spaghetti. Once her breathing had returned back to normal and she felt much calmer, she cursed how she had ended up in this situation.

It had all begun with a scroll that had randomly popped into existence out of nowhere.

A couple of days ago, the ReQuip mage had been going about her business of painting the mayoral statue pink and purple to give it a bit more vibrancy. She had been about to add the finishing touches of smiley faces onto it when suddenly, an ornate scroll poofed into view and unrolled itself with great pomp and ceremony. The words were written with an elaborate script befitting the magically mysterious scroll and invited her to go to Sky Tower as soon as possible. As far as invitations went, this was the most interesting one she had received to date. The girl's attention had been captured and curiosity compelled her to go forth. It wasn't like she would be missing something terribly exciting in Talonia, after all.

"Well, now what?"

Valerie murmured to herself as she leaned against a pillar and waited at the top of the tower for something exciting to happen. Someone was going to die if it turned out that she had climbed all this way for nothing.

3 Days ago. A man, a beast, and a priest all walk into a bar. No, that was it. What did you expect, a comedy routine? BAH! The bar was getting rowdy, the priest could no longer taken the sin and debauchery that was being had. What a light weight, right?! Laughter ensued after the drunk religious man left, though it was all in good fun though. The beer, the waitresses, and sinful happy hour, nothing was stopping this party! Luckily for one mage and his pet, it wouldn’t include him.

Jaeger was walking the streets of Talonia, the City of Guildless Mages. It was a modest sized place, close by to a beautiful waterfall. The architects had really done a marvelous job with both the location and city design. The mage was in a state of wonder as he and Nava explored the rest of the city. The garden that he and Vale visited days before was gorgeous, it really made the man want to view the rest of the town.

Rumors circulated of this rambunctious bar, one that any gentleman should avoid! However, like any other normal human, Jaeger just had to do the opposite. His interests were peaked and he just had to attend such a business! Even just getting within a couple blocks, everyone and their mothers could hear the cheering, the singing, the breaking, and the fighting that happened on a regular basis. The man’s intrigue was swayed even more! That motivation was soon snuffed out as he saw the priest stumbling and bumbling about.



The mage and his pet, Nava, walked passed the religious man, giving him a disappointed and shameful expression. How could one of holiness fall to such sin? Such a shame. Jaeger put his hand on Nava to pet, much to his surprise, there was a mysterious scroll there. Upon opening it, he learned that others and himself were invited to a meeting in the Sky Tower. A rarity, Jaeger had only heard of the mystical place through rumors, though none were certain of what truly went on.

Present. Jaeger stood at the bottom of this tower, partially merged with the stone and rock below. Nava came running up the path behind him, enjoying the bit of chase he had. The doors swung open to allow the guests inside. The Giant Red Panda bolted in, excited as to what it’d experience. Jaeger merged fully into the stone and went on his way. Luckily, the tower was older than most in Fiore, it was crafted and made of stone and allowed for the man to seamlessly move about.

As Jaeger moved deeper and climbed higher, the presence of a friend could be felt. Vale, the lilac haired beauty. How could one forget such a magical feel? The other was foreign and it was too close to her. The wizard unmerged himself, slowly popping up in front of Vale.

Before much time had passed, something, or rather someone, came flying up the side of the tower and landed on the floor with enough force to send out a small shock wave. He was obviously a mage, judging by the way he had chosen to get himself up the monstrously tall tower. As far as entrances went, this one was quite flashy. Valerie blinked once in surprise and raised a curious brow at the guy. She hadn't expected others to be here. She wondered for a moment if this was the one who had sent the the fancy scroll. It would make sense, seeing how flashy he liked to be.

And then that thought went out the metaphorical window when she spied that he too had a similar scroll clutched in his fingers.

Ah, so he's been invited here as well.

Valerie looked the dark haired young man over, feeling like she had seen or met him somewhere before. Maybe something involving sombreros, though she could have been wrong about that. However, she couldn't place quite when or where. Perhaps it was for the best that she didn't recall who it was. It wasn't like the girl was the best at remembering names of faces anyway, what with her rather short and selective attention span.

"I'm not entirely sure. I don't suppose you know why we're here? You seem to have gotten the same scroll as I did." Though she didn't really expect him to have any more information about the situation either since he appeared to currently be in the same boat as herself, she asked anyway.

Just then, she spied a familiar presence - Jaeger; the mage of trees and nature and unfortunately not flowers. It was a surprise to see him in this place, although an unexpectedly pleasant one. His entrance was somewhat dramatic as well, slowly emerging from the stone of the tower like some sort of guardian or sentinel that had been awakened. She half expected him to announce something like 'who dares intrude this tower?' or some such nonsense. Was Vale the only one without a dramatic entrance? She secretly decided that it wouldn't do at all, and vowed to come up with a magnificent entrance for the next time she was put in this situation. Perhaps something with explosions. Explosions were always great.

"Nice to see you again, Jaeger." The girl straightened up from the pillar she was leaning against and offered him a friendly smile before asking, "I take it you got a fancy scroll as well?"

The plot was thickening.

Just how many more people were going to show up to whatever this was? Three seemed like a good number to her. Perhaps this mysterious person would show up now, and hopefully announce something that would be worth having her climb such a high tower. Valerie expected a really old and wrinkly hermit or priest with an extremely long beard to appear out of nowhere and start explaining the situation to the three of them. Or maybe announce that they shall not pass. She was starting to get impatient as the seconds ticked by.

"Oh, I'd forgotten to introduce myself. I'm Vale." She inclined her head towards the flashy, dark haired mage. Perhaps he liked sombreros. He seemed like sort who'd enjoy such a thing.

Ah, Vale, the lovely flower the had reconnected with in Talonia days before. The time they spent with one another would last in Jaegers memory for months and possibly years to come. Of course, it wasn’t intimacy that he’d remember, it was just her presence and nature of the woman that’d leave the imprint. Who she was, it was just a delight to be around. And hey, he’s leaving an impression on the woman as well, she actually remembered Jaeger this time! Such a wonderful feeling, right? He turned to face the woman, grabbing her hand and lightly kissing the top of it. Nava, the gigantic Red Panda, finally caught up and sat next to his owner, awaiting attention and events to happen.



After such comments, the gent spun back around to look to the other person there. It was a young man, close to his own height. Short brown hair, thin and lean. This new face seemed more child-like, if he had to compare it to his own. However, looks aside, Jaegers magical sensing could pick up strength and power from him. So much was the difference in their power, Jaeger couldn’t even properly gauge it, even with his enhanced sensing ability. Today, the phrase “Don’t judge a book by its cover” would need to be applied. Vale, well he has been given an up close and personal (;3) take on her. The man before him was an unknown and strong ally, or so he assumed.



The fine dressed man offered out a hand to shake and introduced himself. The beast next to him, Nava, nudged his owner over a couple steppes, reminding him that the Red Panda was there to be greeted as well. The mage chuckled and place the other hand on his pet’s head.



Jaeger let out a light hearten chuckle and scratched the beast’s head.
