It was interesting, really.
Shadow never once imagined that there could be a place more hot than the arid sandy wastes of Desierto from where the Priests hailed, but there was clearly a difference between the dry desert and this muggy humidity. The vast ocean was a new sight, both intriguing and admittedly a bit intimidating with its endless body that seemed to swallow up the horizon and blend water with sky. The briny liquid lapped at the white grained shores and filled the air with a moisture that made the day easily feel several degrees hotter than it actually was. And to top it all off, it made avoiding sweat virtually impossible.
Of course, that problem was easily compounded by the desert garb that shrouded the foreign monk. A long sleeved blue top hugged itself to the mage's ambiguously shaped body, as did the pants that were made of the same material and color. Over the top of it was a torn and tattered shirt that was little more than a poncho, white with a depiction of a crying red eye plastered without reservation on the chest. The pristine top had an over abundance of fabric around the collar that had been tightened upon the figure's face over the nose to act as a mask. The right side of the figure's torso was covered in a dark blue shoulder cape that had been intricately embroidered with the same image of an eye, only in a deep gold thread. A small white turban sat upon bright yellow hair that fell past long pointed ears and down to the small of the Priest's back.
Quietly, Shadow watched the scene taking place in the sand, crimson eyes neutral in their interest. A small crowd of people dressed in much more revealing swim wear had paused and gathered around the sparring mages. Golden colored grit sprayed into the air and immediately became sucked into the cold ocean breeze, thrown into the faces of several of the on lookers. Shadow remained unmoved and curious, observing the two mages as they threw their near naked bodies at one another with... some semblance of form. Could one call it form? Often times it appeared to be little more than wild flailing that occasionally managed a lucky hit, but hey, everyone had to start somewhere. The guards that were overseeing the brawl were examining the pair with careful and critical eyes, as were the half dozen other mages that had come to test themselves against others in the hopes of proving themselves worthy of their calling.
And Shadow? Well, it was fair to say that the Priest wouldn't have come at all if the possibility of being pulled into a spar was entirely undesirable. In truth, however, curiosity was the forefront emotion. Still, few ever came upon such challenges, even small ones such as this, without at least a singular question tickling at the back of their minds:
Where do I stand..?
