Face Claiming

Hey there guys.

I got an idea for how we can improve face claiming and prevent mixups due to people forgetting to post in it.

What if we update the character apps to include the face claim information.
Then when the app is approved....the mods go an update the face claim list.

That way everything 'character focused' is in one section rather than having to remember to go to another app. It also means the list will likely remain up to date and it shouldn't take the staff more than a minute or two extra.

Plus, they can then turn down an app straight away at character creation if the face claim is in use...rather than after the character has been approved and the person has posted in another thread

I can't think of any negative outcome for this one.... So I could get behind this.

I have seen this on many other sites and it has always worked out. I think this is a good idea and it is probably easier for the mods as well. They don't have to go through pages and posts in a thread to find the FC's that need to be updated! :3

They did this in another FTRP site I joined, where the Face Claim was located at the very bottom of the app so it'd be easier to see. Kudos to this suggestion. : D

One thing that just needs a bit o forethought with this is when one has multiple face claims. Would they just repeat the entry on the sheet multiple times and list one as primary which is the one that counts for another having to ask for permission?

I think something like that would work, and make it easier than having to list disguise, could do primary and secondary etc. for the FC's, primary counts for your main and asking permission, only having 2 people max sharing, secondary is w/e and anyone can still claim it, but it might be polite to ask for a bit of permission to avoid stumbling over plot details.

I don't think disguises and stuff should count as face claimed. It should be purely for your main face claim. Its not really fair to take multiple face claims. If you want to diguise yourself as Ronald Mcdonald then do it. You don't need an FC app for that

But they don't the whole reason that it was done on the FC list (I think) was to let others know that the face claim is being used, abet not in a natural way, for others, it doesn't stop anyone else from claiming it, would just make plot stuff a little easier. Especially for all those grim heresy folks who have to have like 3 Face claims.

No need to put in an app at all if its just a disguise. I'd remove any 'extra' face claims from the list.

on a non cannon site face claims don't really have much impact so I don't think it matters one way or the other.

People claim a face to say 'this is what my character looks like' and it doesn't really make sense if we end up with ten identical people. Thats why people face claim.

This generally works. Only slight problem will be getting mods to unlock apps all the damn time cause we are indecisive assholes.

Yeah that was part of the suggestion. When the app is approved the list is updated.

There should probably be some rulings on character face claim changes...maybe it costs or something

So for something that has really no effect on the character, unlike magic changes, you think it'd be wise to charge them jewels...? Yeah no. :/

I agree at first part where it would be nice for the template to have an FC section, but making it where disguises can't actually be claimed would be pretty counter productive. You would end up with the issue of people using the same appearance that you use for your appearance, and shenanigans would happen.

Except that a disguise is well...a disguise. I could disguise myself as your character and do stuff to try to get you in trouble or we could both use the same disguise to try and do something. Allowing people to have 'multiple face claims' is silly and takes away the chance for others to have those characters. Its why you can't face claim for pets (for example) or for 'weapons' e.g. I know at least two members have used the dark repulser.


The reason I suggested jewels is that after a while jewels become meaningless and tbh they are an OOC currency rather than an IC one so why not have them be for changing something OOC? Have it so you got a shop and are charged jewels to 'magically' change your character to look like someone different.

As someone who has a disguise on the FC list, i'd say it's fair to mark them down, but anyone can still use them freely. It's more like just to know that someone is using it as a disguise. And i feel you could only add a disguise to the FC list, when that disguise will be used for a longer time and not just for a thread, if you keep using it, it's on the list to let people know someone is using it for this. Just to take into consideration.

Jewels changing FC's i'm all for, but make it so that it's not when you took a break due to any kind of reason really and came back with your fc now claimed by someone else, then you could do it for free. And yeah, it doesn't really make sense for people's appearance to keep changing, however free the rp world is.
