Twinkling lights were strung up all along the street, twisting around lampposts and stretching far over the chasm which was the road. Juliana marveled at the flashing orbs and vibrantly hued sprinklers, which were spraying water over a lake as she strolled by. Damp, moist hair clung to her pores due to a mixture of the humidity and the body’s natural bodily function of sweating. At the moment, all was peaceful and quiet within the mage’s mind, for the temperature was far warm enough so that one could not possibly shiver; that is, of course, unless she chose to shed her coat. Lissy herself had remained rather silent this evening, which was appreciated due to the fact that on occasion, answering Lissy’s murmurings out loud could result in strange glances and annoyed reactions from strangers within earshot.
Today’s mission location was most certainly a charming one, but Julia could not allow herself to be distracted. Having finally reached the meeting place which the client had chosen for the date, she allowed her eyes to flit around the area in the hopes of discovering him or her. Considering the fact that there had not been a gender preference listed on the posted notice, Juliana found it likely that picking the client out from the crowd would be hectic and most difficult. Instead, she plopped herself down on a nearby bench, already feeling uncomfortable with the situation. Nonetheless, once a few more minutes had passed by, the girl resigned herself to the situation and decided that she needed to give it her all to helping this girl or guy, whichever it was.
She wobbled into the restaurant, unstable on her feet due to the perfectly average heels which she wore but was thoroughly unaccustomed to. As she was passing a lone girl seated at a two person table, the stranger piped up in a slightly peeved voice, “Well? Aren’t you going to sit down? I recognize your appearance from your application to take the job. You are quite beautiful, after all,” she teased, a grin tugging the corners of her mouth up. Julia offered a weak smile in return, now more than a bit uncomfortable with the situation, before plopping herself down in the chair. Lissy chose that time to speak up in an attempt to force the mage to relax, murmuring, “Julia, it is only a date. Do not worry, as you are not in any way obligated to spend the rest of your life with her. But shouldn’t we try our best to help her feel wanted and beautiful?” At this, the girl blushed profusely, but she did open her mouth and attempt to inquire as to how the fine lady was doing on that night.
Although the girl, who turned out to be blessed with the name of Phoena, did not succumb to Julia’s weak attempts of flirtation, she did concede (and out loud, too!) that they were somewhat touching and did assist in boosting her self-esteem. During the entirety of the rest of the meal, however, most conversation began with complaints of incidents that had occurred to the stranger and ended with Julia reassuring her that she was a most lovely female and that things were just certain to be looking up now. That flattered Julia herself a bit as well, since the mage had considered her skills with interacting with other people to be almost unconventional, but typically also not useful. Once the meal had been finished, the girl paid for it despite Julia’s embarrassed protests, and the two parted ways, never to see each other again.
