Been meaning to bring this up for awhile and never got around to it. There are already a few examples of it across the site of people uses different types of energy for their magic. A few of them are quite fair. I'm not going to point any fingers really, but these custom energies (May they be based on something or not) have gone so far as to allow someone free spells, and some abuse. So can we get some guidelines in place for them? I think that'd be kinda good have down cause people would see it's possible to use. Might get some curse users in the mix also

Re: Different energies usage
To be honest i feel all 'custom' ways of fuelling spells should still follow the magic rules or at least be based on them. I don't mind there being ways to get 'free spells' if its built correctly e.g. I cast these three spells and get a 'charge' that allows me to cast a fourth.

Re: Different energies usage
They can be pretty questionable at times. I don't think there are any problems with those who use something other than mana/magic though, when using the exact same mechanics as magic/mana, just reskinned prettymuch. Gives you some advantages and a more specialized theme without going above and beyond.
I assume you're talking about unique currencies of 'magic' (If it's even magic being used in their/the person's app). Such as having 2 points of this or that per post do do that or this, and so on. Or some pool of 10 points per rank for this or that.
There are FAR too many variables and unique methods of creating something to apply some generalized blanket-rule. Blanket rules are never a good thing. They are at best a neutral thing that leans towards being bad. They limit the creations people make and can choke out some ideas and concepts.
If reviewing staff don't find anything too wrong then I think it's fine, as a normal case by case review same as the rest of the magic. It can of course be advantageous and a strength of the 'magic' / app or consume a UA for more effectiveness than people using normal MP might.
I see the concern, and have seen questionable apps based around it myself, but I don't think it's a problem and less of a problem that needs rules on it. Different magics or non-magic 'magic' apps have their own different usages, utilities, abilities and there's no good reason to limit them to such extents.
Then again unlike what seems to be popular oppinion, I'm of the mind that a site like this is supposed to be fun and not bogged down by strictness that make things like apps a chore and a source of stress and contention. (This is not a pointed remark at anyone, but is a statement of the general atmosphere of the site.)
Whats more, any rules that would effect existing members and applications need to be taken with huuuge grains of salt and really weight the necessity of such a rule, otherwise you cause upheaval and contention among the memberbase in having to rework magics/apps.
Sites that make a habit making rules out of nowhere that effect existing apps and members tend to die before long.

Re: Different energies usage
Yeah i'm a big fan of keeping it as free roam as possible. The limits we have now can be too much sometimes and they are a LOT better than they used to be.
I also think that apps should only really be strict if the user intends PVP otherwise its not too bad if they just get to do what they like and have fun. That's what we are here for right?

Re: Different energies usage
I'll go on and admit to using different sources for my magic, but the mechanics of mine are the same as normal spells. Niyol uses Souls but converted to MP it's a 1:1 ratio. The same with Lexa and her Charge.
Moving back to the point of the thread, I think the apps with reskinned MP is more or less an issue on the grading moderator's end than it is on the site's ruling (or lack there of). The site doesn't really need new rules on something not-so-frequently done like not using MP in my opinion. As zack said, so long as the magic is done right, it's fine to allow a free spell every so often. As Siren said, this site is for fun and there's no real point in slamming rules because one of the mods were unable to connect a couple dots and see something super abusable.
