As for the RP site, the best advice I can give you is take a look at the URL scrolling at the top of the screen that says, "new players click here." Also, take some time to read up on the rules. it may seem like a lot but it's manageable if you take it in chunks.
Do you have any idea of what guild you want to join? Infinity Hydra has some great, active people if you're interested.
