Snowy Cottage(JOB)

Yuzuki read the job over quickly, scanning it without really reading much detail, then jumped up, ready to go. It was a good job for her, one that required natural strength more than magic, and she had always been a more "bare fists" person rather than all mage-like. Though she did have to admit magic often helped, but not in this job! Flipping head over heels into the sky above the alleyway where she often stayed, she landed precisely on the tip of a lamp post, crouched there, while looking at the location, then stretched her wings, and leapt again to another post. And another, and another, then to a tree top, and another...

Before too long, Yuzuki was in the mountains. Her human side almost immediately began complaining of the cold, but her fey side brushed it off, leaving her feeling extremely uncomfortable. Shaking snow off of her back, she took to the ground, where the trees covered most of her from the silently swirling snow.

Reaching the top, she peered forward with enhanced sight, searching for her clients. Finally spotting the two, she darted up to them, quickly, skidding to a stop in the snow in front of both. "Oy, I'm the mage you hired!" she called loudly, her voice piercing through the snow-filled silence. The snow quickly muffled up any possible echo, leaving her standing awkwardly and silently in front of the two men.

"Oh, it's you- " the younger man cut himself off in surprise as he stared at Yuzuki. The semi-fey had the appearance of a mere fourteen year-old, nowhere near strong enough to help build a house! "I'm stronger than I look, trust me," she snapped in reply, easily hefting a branch twice her size into the air. She was actually many years older than the young man, and naturally much stronger.

Looking at her with suspicious eyes, the older man asked, "You're not using magic, are you?" When Yuzuki assured him she was not, he nodded in a very unconvinced way.

Shrugging at his response, not really caring what he thought, Yuzuki placed her hands on her hips, staring at the lumber and the tools spread out, ready for use.

However, the semi-fey would stare in confusion at everything, then look up at the men, frowning. "What a waste of trees, seriously? This is too much lumber for a stupid house! And who needs all these tools anyways?" she grumbled, crossing her arms. In the fey realm, people hadn't needed this because with so please communication with animals, a house was built in no time. She hadn't been in the human realm for too long, and had forgotten many of the common behaviors. It was only when both humans stared at her strangely that Yuzuki realized what she had done wrong. "Riiight. Stupid human procedures. Whatever," she grumbled, waving any comments they might make off.

Skipping over to the wood, she hefted it up, saying, "Well, work now, right?"

The two men looked at her, obviously a little weirded out. They seemed to be regretting their choice in hiring a mage to help, but it was just their bad luck the semi-fey had just grabbed this one job in particular. Though the girl had seemed strong at first, she knew absolutely nothing on how to build a house. Yuzuki started out well enough, helping the men lay out a base for the cottage, one that was very sturdy and strong. However when it came to connecting all that wood, Yuzuki was hopeless.

"Oy, you with the darker hair, how do you even hold this Titania-cursed thing?" Yuzuki complained, holding up a hammer. The men had to teach her all the basics, or even things like what a nail was and why they stabbed wood with them. The older man had introduced himself as Nicholas, and the younger one as Tom. Nicholas was constantly thinking Yuzuki was using magic, and Tom seemed to be scared of Yuzuki at times.

Yuzuki impatiently struck at the wood with the tools, often catching her own fingers in the spindly screws or bashing them with the heavy hammer. Before long, her hands were scratched and bruised, and she wanted to go home already. Not that she had a home to go back to. Without a guild to help shelter her, Yuzuki was completely homeless. She lived on the move, running from city to city, forest to mountain. She could survive well enough like that, but it meant she had no place to go back to.

It did get lonely sometimes... NO! It wasn't lonely at all! Yuzuki sighed. She should enjoy being alone after all those years being betrayed by humans. If only she hadn't done that stupid, stupid thing to get herself kicked out of the land of her mystical kin. This was stupid. Why'd she have to go and get herself stuck in the mortal realm again? She hated this harsh reminder that she didn't belong. Not here, not the fey realm, not anywhere.

"Hey, um, mage-san, could I show you how to use the hammer? You're going to hurt yourself like that," the younger man's voice came from behind her, and whirling around, Yuzuki could seefhe was crouching down, hand outstretched for the hammer. Yuzuki sniffed angrily.

"I-I do know how to use it! I'm just, er, out of practice!" the semi-fey grumbled grouchilu, yanking the hammer away. No way was she going to show a stupid human she couldn't use their stupid tools! She slammed the hammer down hard, splintering the wood. She looked at it in shock for a moment then blushed fiercely, backing away.

"S-sorry..." she grumbled, hating to apologize to a human. She slowly picked up the hammer, and gave it to Tom. He looked at her with a slightly amused expression, and began to show her how to pound in a hammer. Yuzuki watched through slitted eyes, marvelling at how stupid human contraptions were like. Simply astonishing how badly they worked.

However, he finished the nail and smiled at her, grinning as he handed her the hammer. "You try it now, miss. Excuse me, I never did catch your name. Would you please tell me what it is so I can address you some way other than miss?" he asked, smiling in what might have been supposedly a charming smile, but to Yuzuki just looked like muscles flexing in his face. Nowhere near charming.

Yuzuki sniffed at him angrily, snatching away the hammer and starting on the next nail."For your information tommy, I never did tell you my name. Why exactly? I like my privacy! If you choose to tell people your name, tell them your name by all means. I choose not to do that, so I don't tell people my name! Easy as that! Just call me 'Supreme High Mage Over All' if you must call me anything," the semi-fey snorted sarcastically, pounding the nail hard, only hitting her fingers a few times now.

Humans were such odd creatures, really. "You ain't using magic, are you, Mage?" the old man asked, glaring at Yuzuki through squinted eyes. "No, Gramps, no magical at all!" Yuzuki groaned, and turned her back in annoyance.

Yuzuki fell into a trance-like rythym soon enough, pounding away, hefting up boards, sanding them, and packing in insulation. Her mind fell into a steady monotonous chant of the same instructions, and before long, Yuzuki glanced up, and gasped at how much she had done in all the time. tpThe cottage was rising up fairly quickly, and they were almost at the roof. Tom was obviously impressed, something Yuzuki thought she be natural impulse for all humans. The fey folk were obviously more talented than clumsy humans.

Even the old human looked remotely convinced she was better than just a usual no-good mage. "Not too shabby, Mage-girl, not too shabby," he grunted, admitting to it at last, in the girl's mind. The semi-fey was, unfortunately, a bit prideful. Not at all a humble do-gooder, oh no. She flashed a smirk in his direction. "Of course not, old man! How could I possibly mess things up?" She pushed off from the area she was working on, now a ways up high, and landed neatly on all fours.

Yuzuki neatly hopped up towards the last small section of roof needing to be fixed, and began to pound on left over boards with the hammer. She hummed a Fairy tune under her breath as she worked, her mind flying back through her memory. Her time in the elfin courts had been interesting, much better than the human realm. However, she had never really fit in there, either. Everyone was so stiff and nervous all the time, never having time for pranks and jokes. After humans had hunted almost all of them, the Fey Realm had transformed from a merry cheerful place to a place that seemed to be constantly on the lookout for danger. Humans really did ruin everything.

Hammering the last board into place, the semi-fey tucked the hammer and leftover nails under her arm and jumped from the roof, somersaulting down before landing neatly on her feet. "Finished, old man!" she proclaimed proudly. The cottage wasn't too bad, actually, and looked like it could withstand the winter.

As she received her money, Yuzuki nodded quickly once to the old man and the younger man, counting the jewel again carefully. It had been an easy job she was glad to have finished. She smiled at her handiwork proudly, now being able to wrangle stupid human tools. She dusted her hands off, and flashed a mean-looking smirk at the two men, before taking a running start, and leaping high into the air. "So long, ya big dumb humans!" she yelled over her shoulder, flipping in midair. She could feel her invisible, weak wings folding around her, then struggling to stay up and failing. She landed lightly, and took off again. It was an annoying way to travel, but fun, and fast enough for her. She flipped over and over again, making her way to Talonia. She felt like bunking there for the night, who knew, maybe she wouldn't have to sleep under a bridge. Some places offered shelter at night for a cheap price, and with the jewel, she might be able to afford it.

Clinging to the money bag, the semi-fey was on the move again. She never stopped, really.
