No one was here. The bride had clearly told her that she had also invited another Sabertooth mage for this request. She had also told her it was Chelvaric. Then, just where exactly was he? She walked around the church, keeping her head down and looking up only when she heard questionable sounds. But, she had completed this same round three times already and nothing out of the ordinary had happened yet. The people scattered around was socializing, artificial laughter filled the air as they complimented one another for the sake of formality. Valerie didn’t understand the rich people in this world. Arcadia had this difference too but instead of money, the divide came with the ones that had angel’s blood in them and the normal ones that didn’t. The ones with special powers abused the ordinary while a very few used it for the best. But most unfortunately, the ones responsible for it all simply watched as the situation boiled over with no damage taken. The angels abandoned them after a while and the Gods just amused themselves. That was till her own power awakened and she decided to put an end to their tyranny. Sure, it backfired on her a little but so far, it seemed Arcadia returned to its peaceful state.
The sound of something breaking alerted Eclipse as she was passing through the church’s garden. When she rushed over to there, she saw pieces of shattered glasses on the floor and sighed. False alarm, she thought and walked away, still waiting for something to happen. “Where is that cat like man?” she asked herself again, plopping down on a chair she just saw in a corner. The wedding was just about to commence. She could already hear the music and rush of people into the church. The bride herself was arriving while the groom had already taken his place in front of the priest. The priest had a bible in his hands and kept looking at it every now and then, no questions asked or answers given. The groom’s family stood to a side, worried look cast over them like a shadow but they still smiled to hide their nervousness. She guessed that they were aware of this ex boyfriend predicament as well. Even the groom’s face was pale. They should trust Sabertooth mages a bit more, she thought and turned away from the wedding, walking out of the church and taking a path away from it. She was going to go around the church once for.
After walking for about fifteen minutes, Eclipse heard the sound of something breaking again. Thinking it was a false alarm again, she did not turn around this time but when the sound followed another one, she turned around and followed it only to see three men running towards her. They looked slightly panicked and slightly aggravated. In the end, they started using their fire magic to set things on fire, causing some of the guests to start screaming in terror. One of them was laughing hard. Another was starting to curse someone, saying if it wasn’t for that cat, they could have got everything going their way or something along those lines? The word cat caught her attention the most. Did Chelvaric already deal with some of them? She wondered as she walked over to them and tapped one of them on the shoulder.
“What?” was the immediate reply as the red haired man turned to look at Eclipse. “Do you want to be fried as well?” his scornful voice rang out as a ball of fire appeared on his right hand. The others smirked in response and immediately activated their own spells.
“I have a very simple question for you,” she told them as she circled the man, irritating him further with her indifferent attitude. “Did you see a blonde guy with cat like features?” when she finished the questions, a string of curses were the first to follow and then one of them tried to punch her, their eyes wide and face red with anger.
“That cat destroyed all of our plans!” they screamed, launching an attack on her again. But Valerie dodged them with ease, twirling out of their reach.
“So you guys did see him,” she concluded, activating her own magic. Music blared in the background as she felt power rise within her. The rhythm of her movement increased as she tapped her feet to the ground and used it to dance out of the men’s reach. “Storm of Roses,” she started, raising her hands elegantly as if praying to the invisible Gods above. “Create the Ultimate Whirlpool,” as she created a tornado of sharp rose petals around the men, cutting through their defences and magic. The rose petals danced cruelly around them, drawing blood wherever it pierced. It rose to the sky, came down, and like blades, whirled around them again and again. Whenever they tried to get away, the petals created a slashing wall that threw them back. Soon, they were screaming in agony, and as the rose petals dispersed after some time, leaving the other two unconscious. Sound of awe and gasps filled the air from behind her followed by the sound of clapping and cheering. It seemed that she had done the impossible for a midget like herself because everyone was staring at her with amazement. The groom too looked happy and relieved now that his wedding had no more hindrance. Even the bride soon rushed over, engulfing her in a quick hug and kisses while the families too expressed their gratitude for the help. Soon, the wedding began.
When all was said and done, the wedding was in full swing, and Chelvaric was nowhere to be seen in the church. Where was he? Now, the bride, the groom and even their families were genuinely happy, enjoying the wedding to the maximum. Soon, the priest started saying a few things about commitment and happiness that Valerie paid very little attention to. None of them was realistic anyway. Life was a mix of happiness and sadness and not everyone would get over them without any damage. Just love and trust will sometimes prove to be insufficient too. It was more important to have strength and belief in yourself and the ability to solve problems, she thought and walked away. As the music blared behind her and the people started rising up in their festive mood, Valerie was already walking out of the church. Some people met with her as she walked away and thanked her for keeping the wedding safe while some still stared at her in amazement. But through the whispers and other words of praise, Valerie simply tried to find someone close to the bride. She told one of the people present there to have the bride send the rewards for herself as well as Chelvaric later. More importantly, she had to find that cat and get more details from him if possible. Why did those guys seem so scared of him and just exactly what plan of theirs did he spoil? Well, it was a long walk towards the guild. Surely, she will have enough time to ponder about it.
