    ~Several Years Ago~
Frederick could feel it. No could sense it even, the once solid guild emblem that once hung proudly inside the Blue Pegasus guild hall. But now, laying on the ground. Cracked and slowly succumbing to the pressure Frederick was putting on it, by placing his foot right on top of it.
In front of him, was a young man. Probably twenty years old, could be less. Either way it didn't matter. He was one of the last still living souls in this place. All the others were already dead, or about to be.

You could see the fear in his eyes, as he desperately tried to crawl away from the scene, yet unable to look away. His comrades, slaughtered. His guild on fire. And the air he took, was now filled with the stench of the dead. And in front of him, a man clothed in black slowly approaching him. While others stood behind him, watching as what the dark man would do. And looking at the poor soul, with grins and smiles so wide, as if they were children at their own birthday party.

    ~Nowadays~
Now in that same place, but at an entirely different time. Stood that same dark man, clothed in black. A cloak with a hood to match. Large enough to entirely engulf the mans body, and hide the presence of his face.

But now in front of him was nothing but a single carved obsidian rock. Shaped in a rectangular form. With on all sides, the names of those who had been crushed under the heel of the dark guild Savage Skull.

All around the memorial statue were flowers. No bouquets though, but planted flowers that grew in all different shapes and sizes. With some having even the brightest colors Frederick had ever seen in his life.
It provided a harsh contrast with the cold black stone that stood in the midst of it. It was almost becoming uncomfortable, as the stone represented death. While the flowers were flourishing with life.

For a while now, Frederick had been standing there. Staring at the perfectly cut rock. Or better yet, staring at one particular yet random name on it. Asking himself if that was the man he had struck down, or if it belonged to anyone else. Who had he become if he was still left breathing.

    "I forget sometimes."

Standing behind the black clad man, a figure dressed in white appeared.  Shuhei, The White Wizard and former Guild Master of Blue Pegasus, slowly approached the man in black.  "What they looked like, their voices, even their names fade from my memory, until I return here to read their names from this slab of stone."  Shuhei stood beside the man in black and looked unto the stone tablet with a grim expression.  "What I'll never forget, is the day that it happened.  It seemed no different from any other day, none could have suspected such a tragedy would occur.  Much like many of the events that have come to Fiore since then.  Lichborne, Acnologia, The priory.  This slab of stone stands as a humbling reminder that Death can occur at any time and we're powerless to stop it."  Shuhei turned his head, and looked at the man clad in black and smiled.  "Isn't that right, Lord Frederik?"

In that moment, Shuhei reached out and clutched the robes around Frederik's neck and a blinding flash of light whited out the world around him and his senses were thrown in to disarray.  A feeling like nothing He'd have ever felt before washed over him, a tremendous weight as if his body was being stretched over a vast distance followed by a severe disorientation and a cold chill down his spine.  Slowly, his vision began to return.  Shuhei smiling decadently at him, gripping his collar from which he hung over a vast abyss in the mountains.  The wind bellowed coldly in the mountains where Shuhei had brought them, and it seemed as though Frederik was finally going to meet his end at the hands of the man in white.  "Have you made your peace with Death Frederik?"

For a moment Frederick lost everything. His sight, gone and replaced by some bright white light, that hung as a veil over his eyes so it seems. His very hearing, the distant chatter and the birds in the trees traded for a loud and deafening sounds. His entire sense of self was gone. Nothing could really describe it, as it was a feeling he had never imagined possible.

'What happened?' He knew the sensation stopped, but for a moment everything was still blanc, his sight and his mind. Then slowly but certain the white veil started to vanish, and Frederick saw the very face that he'd managed to evade all those years. And with it his memory came rushing back. The stone with the names on it. Shuhei Kirasagi who appeared from behind him, with his smile so ever kind. And the pull, as Shuhei reeled him before they vanished.

Frederick finally gotten a grasp of his situation again. The bellowing rush of winds that gusted around his head. His cloak billowing roughly, his hair fluttering. The lack of ground under his feet. And Shuhei, right in front of his face, holding him up only by the collar of his cloth.

Indirectly, this man had been his nemesis for so long. Ever since the day Frederick joined up with the Darkest of Guilds, their lives had been set on train tracks that would eventually collide with each other. Sure Frederick never had the honor of meeting the esteemed White Dragon of Blue Pegasus, but that didn't mean the harm Frederick had caused didn't directly affect the man. No maybe this was more then befitting.

'Shu..hei!' stammered Frederick while also uttering a short laugh, which sounded sickly as he was still nauseous from the sudden exchange of environments. 'Has your vengeance finally cultivated enough to make you cruel? Because if you want my death, I bid you to release me from your grasp, right now and right here. Don't falter, don't doubt or feel any remorse. I didn't when I struck the life out of your friends and family.'

Shuhei smirked and raised an eyebrow at Frederik. For a long time, Shuhei had only hatred for the man that had taken everything from him, and desired nothing more than to see him suffer an ugly fate. However circumstance had kept Shuhei at bay until now. There the Abyss waited to swallow the object of Shuhei's hatred. All he had to do, was let go. Shuhei's grip on Frederik's collar tightened and a crack of thunder echoed as lightning ignited the sky. Though he hated him with a passion, and the sight of Frederik infuriated him, vengeance was not on his mind today. There were matters more important to attend to. "Tch... Don't make me laugh." Without much care, Shuhei slung Frederik behind him, tossing him towards the stone wall behind Shuhei, several meters away. Another crack of thunder echoed as Frederik struck in to the mountain. Slowly Shuhei turned to face the man in black again (with a certain sense of satisfaction.) and began to approach him.

"You've been nothing but a pitiful pile of remorse since you joined up with those saber kittens. There's nothing left of the old Frederik." The White Wizard spoke coldly, a different tone from his usual one. "But the old Frederik is what I need now." Shuhei stood closely to Frederik, peering in to his eyes with a look of absolute seriousness. "There are dark forces at work in the underworld. I know you've felt it. The shadow of what's to come stretches across all of Fiore and Ishgar. We can't survive against what casts it. Shuhei paused for a moment. "In the back of your mind you know that I'm right. The Legal Guilds are powerless to stop it on their own." Another crack of thunder echoed loudly through the mountains and the sky burst with light.

With rather surprising ease, Shuhei swung Frederick away from the edge, and into the wall of the mountain behind. Which made a rough impact which crushing sound was only softened by the large bellowing thunder, that felt as if it was splitting apart the very sky itself.

The smack against the wall, shot the very breath out of his lungs. Leaving him gasping for air, as he looked up at the very man that had thrown him. He would stand tall over him, towering like a giant for a moment. Leaving Frederick but only to wonder why it was he hadn't released his grasp.

Upon hearing the wizards words, the look on Fredericks face shifted. His arrogant gaze from testing Shuhei's wrath even from when he had him hanging over the edge, had changed into a momentarily sight of sudden fear. Upon the realization what the man was talking about.

Another thunder ripped apart the sky, emphasizing on the same moment Shuhei's words ended, and Frederick face turned stern when faced of what has yet to come.

'And what of it!' Responded Frederick with new found courage, or better yet denial. Because even though he had felt it, the sudden change of atmosphere that seemed to go unnoticed by the masses. He had ignored it to this very point. This gut feeling, this increasing whisper that had been haunting for the past few months. 'It's not that we can stop it! You said it yourself, the Legal Guilds are powerless to even face such an overwhelming shadow! Not even the combined efforts of the entire guild system along with the knights and the royal army even stands a.. chance..'

Reaching the end of his words, Frederick started to speak slower and slower to the point he went into a full pause, at which he stared directly into the cold eyes of his nemesis. Finally understanding why he allowed him to still draw any breath.

'Wait.. you can't possible mean' he finished while another thunder bellowed around them.

Post by Mifune 12th January 2016, 5:56 am

Shuhei stared in to Frederik's eyes as he came to his frightening conclusion.  "The Dark Guilds."  Lightning struck the peak of the mountain, causing a rock slide to occur near them.  The boulders tumbled down the side of the mountain crashing in to one another wildl,y breaking and busting with tremendous noise, but this did not separate their gaze from one another.  Shuhei began to shout over the sound of the tumbling stones.  "They were strong once, each in their own right possessed power that rivaled the fury of the Magic Council, but none of them succeeded in their endeavors.  Divided, none of them possessed enough of a force to accomplish anything, but together...  They would be a force worth reckoning!"

Shuhei paused as the landslide slipped far enough down the mountain that it became a distant echo.  The thought began to sink in, even in Shuhei's mind, what he intended to do was insane and a look of doubt appeared on his face.  In truth he was afraid.  Afraid of what would come to pass should they succeed, but was it a worse fate?  Shuhei closed his eye and took a deep breath.  "I can't do this on my own."  He opened his eyes once more, donning a calmer expression.  "I need you, Frederik.  You're the only one that can see me through this!  You know, though you may not want to admit it, you know it's our only hope at a future!"

Remnants of the Past Empty Re: Remnants of the Past

Post by Godlike Frederik 13th January 2016, 5:08 am

Shuhei was many things to Frederick, most of them were vile and bitter thoughts. But there was one thing that didn't cross Frederick's mind when the thoughts of the white wizard crossed his mind. And that was insanity. And yet just now, he proved otherwise as the man shouted above the turmoil of a crumbling mountain.

Uniting the dark guilds! Surely he'd jest. Off course it had been tried before, but it always turned out in a very fragile alliance. One where betrayal and backstabbing were more common then collaboration. In fact every time the dark guilds tried, they ended up in fighting each other. No the last time a true unified Dark Guild front happened, was maybe centuries ago.

But what if the man was right? He said it before, the Legal Guilds alone can't do it. Not even with the help of the Royal Family and all of the Knights. Not just because of their dwindling numbers, but also because they just weren't prepared for what has to come. Most of them hadn't seen the darkness, or any darkness at all. They simply wouldn't have what it take to avert disaster.
But still to resort to such a plan... in a way it made sense to Frederick. If they ever were to have a shimmer of hope, then that hope may just as well lay with the dark society of Fiore.

Slowly he stood up, while having a short yet nervous laugh escaping his lips. Facing his long time enemy, head on. And without actually saying it, Frederick would gave his consent, as he as well realized that whatever was to come, even had the white wizard frightened.

'..this route... this path you set for yourself.. you know you might not like it's ending right?'.... Where do we start?

Post by Mifune 17th January 2016, 6:53 am

Shuhei could see it in Frederik. Though he didn't want to admit it at first, he knew Shuhei was right. It was the same for him. The fear and uncertainty. All he needed was a moment to think, and with his short nervous reply, their path was set before them. Shuhei smirked. "I've thought long and hard about this, Frederik, and I don't like a damn thing about any of it." He replied with a light chuckle. The White Wizard extended his hand towards Frederik, offering a handshake to seal their deal. "We'll be sacrificing everything. We'll be hated by all those we've come to love. We may even have to kill the ones we love. Are you willing to go that far? Are you willing to become the evil thing that you've resented all these years, once more?" Shuhei waited for a reply, and as soon as Frederik took his hand, Shuhei would clench tightly. "We begin, with Savage Skull." The Guild Frederik himself used to lead. The reason Shuhei absolutely needed him, to gain their favor. Only he knew their darkest secrets, and how to restore them to their former Glory.

Once again, Frederik's vision turned white and he felt the great pull on his body, stretching every fibre of his entire being. Erupting from the light, he emerged where he once was, kneeling before the slab of stone, with the names of all those Frederik had murdered written upon it. Shuhei stood behind him, facing away from the slab of stone. "We're going to need a bigger rock." Neither one of them said anything more to the other after that Dark Humored comment. However that was the reality of what they were about to do. A countless number of people were going to lose their lives because of their actions, most of whom would not be remembered. Slowly, Shuhei walked away from Frederik. They'd soon meet again.

'That... and so much worse' he replied with a foreboding tone in his voice. Knowing full well now, that there maybe was no real escape from that fate after all. That he was forever cursed, to fall into the depraved being he had created himself into. Despite of how much he fought against it, there was no escape. That being, that person engulfed by darkness was him. Frederick knew it, with every person slain, with every fight he had after he joined up Sabertooth, it stirred inside him. Beckoning him to return to give in.

Without a second of any further doubt, Frederick firmly grasped Shuhei's extending hand. Not shaking it, but just grabbing it, as a sign of acknowledgement.

The scene changed again, with a white light that rushed around and bellowed so loudly that nullified any other sense Frederick could have. Only to reveal the familiar scenery of where it all started again. The flowery field, with in its midst, the obsidian carved stone.

With a few more words, that where as heavy as the world itself it seems. Shuhei sealed their fates, along with anyone else they were going to cross paths with. And as the white mage wandered off, without looking back. Frederick was left standing, silently looking at the memorial statue. Thinking of only one thing. 'no... we're going to need a mountain'

    ~end~
