    K
ateri had gone several nights, dreaming of the knight in black armour... the horrors of what lay inside it's darkened heart. That final moment Kateri spent... only a foot from the man. She could sense he wasn't finished, that he could have easily gotten back up and attacked. She felt that he refused, that he didn't want to fight. He... gave up. It was then that she decided, the knight was calling her back. He respected her instincts, her ability to feel fear, but allow her instincts to guide her to overcome it. He wanted Kateri's help... he wanted her to perform a task that would free him. That was the reason she was there... in the library once more where she was attacked by the being. She walked back through the doors, watching as the two stone guardians activated and started charging their attacks. Upon recognizing the young girl they turned back around and went back to their resting positions. Kateri continued walking through the restricted section, back down the history isle, and over the the black book. She looked at its golden accents, its scratched off words and grabbed it by the spine and felt the shudder of magic fly through her arm from the book. She pulled the tome from the shelves and went back to the chair she'd dusted off a few days ago. She opened the book and began flipping through the pages, trying to find something the could use, something that would help her understand what was with the shadow knight. This time around, Kateri made sure to come fully prepared. She brought her sub machine guns, both of them. Both of her revolvers were cleaned, and ready to fire. Her assault rifle was sporting a specially crafted muzzle break, one that doubled as a bayonet, and she even brought her favourite toy... a fourteen point five millimeter, anti-tank sniper rifle with explosive rounds. If that knight wanted another play date... Kateri would be ready to make him dance.

Among the various pages was nothing but gibberish, but one of the phrases stood out to her... not even the whole phrase, just one of the words of two of the phrases... 'The Heartland...' this time, it appeared as a white glow instead of gold like last time... the book was trying to help her, or at least, that's what her instincts told her. Kateri kept flipping the pages, trying to find a link to what the heartland was... where it was, or something. After flying through nearly the entire book, she came across a single page with a very rough drawing of Fiore, and on it was an area where Rose Garden currently was with a white dot glowing. Kateri slammed the book shut and walked towards the exit, stopping when the guardians immediately popped up and started charging their spells while aiming at her. She stepped back a bit, watching as the turrets turned to track her movements. Kateri moved the book forwards while standing in place, but the automations kept locked on her. She then moved all the way back, stopping at the tables and watching the turrets disengage. Kateri tossed the book through the doors, noting that the turrets didn't try and shoot at the book. She then began walking towards the exit, keeping her eyes on the machinery... as she reached a couple steps the turrets came up and Kateri jumped into a forwards commando roll. The turrets went back down as they had no ways of aiming at her, and they sensed no one trying to enter the restricted section.

The flight to rose garden was long, taking nearly a full day just to arrive. Had Kateri left at midnight she would be stuck in the hustle and bustle of crowded streets, but at night she was left with no interruptions. Shadow was exhausted, so Kateri had him take a rest while she looked around for something to get her started. It was much to her luck, that there was an arrow directly below her feet glowing which and slightly raised off the ground. Kateri set the book down, watching it disappear as the item left her hand. "So that's how it is..." she said in a hushed tone under her breath. She grabbed the book and watched the symbol reappear, noting that she was the only one who could see it. Or rather, those who were touching the book were the only ones who could see it. Kateri followed the arrow's direction, making her way to a wall that pointed down an alley way where another arrow awaited her. The one pointed all the way down the dark, likely dangerous path but the hooded girl could see nothing at the end of the path. Kateri reached to her back and grabbed the back of her assault rifle, pulling the weapon out and aiming down the iron sight as she moved down the alley to follow the symbol. It was much to her surprise that there weren't any homeless people in the alley... not thugs, no blood marred walls, no trash, no nothing... at the end of the hall, there was also no further clues. She looked both ways and saw a sewage cover with a white light shining from it. After making her way to it, Kateri noticed that the symbol on this one wasn't an arrow like the others... it was a star. Kateri lowered herself, kneeling down and watching as an arrow formed the lower she got... much to her dismay, it was pointing down. "Awe shit... why does it have to be a sewer?" Kateri said out loud, not actually talking to anyone in particular. She then popped open the hatch, grabbed the ladder leading down and jumped in, making sure to put the cover back on as to not alert the city guard.

Sliding down the ladder, Kateri gripped the poles hard to slow her descent fully stopping just a few feet from the ground. She let go, landing on the soft... "Wait... soft? No squish?" Kateri said out loud, having expected the marvelous sound of feces, swimming in urine infested, bacteria filled water. Even stranger, was a random man wearing a black cloak who pointed, literally pointed, Kateri in a direction. For some reason, she saw a group of young children laying in the not-sewage tunnel. She approached them and kneeled down, two of the three looked back and pointed to one of the many halls lining the place. The third kept her head down, staring at the ground in the fetal position... afraid? or maybe she was shy? No one would know...

Walking down the hall the three kids pointed out, Kateri hit a wall and looked around. Sitting against the wall, under a lamp was two more children. Kateri gently placed her hands on their heads while giving a warm smile, and rubbing the two kids heads. The smaller one moved away, but the larger one looked up at Kateri with his eyes lighting up. The boy pointed off, towards the other direction, the one she'd approached them from and the hall that was over there. Kateri thanks the young boy and walked in its direction. Another strange man appeared, pointing further down the hall, and at the end of that hall was another child who showed her the direction to go.

At the end of this hall was a large room with a new hall connecting to it, a strange man was standing in the middle... and then he turned into that damned massive, black, aggressive knight. Kateri whipped out her sniper, not needing to aim as it was so damn close and pulled the trigger. The man had learned from last time and pulled up its shield, but the round was so large, so powerful, and had so much force behind it that it launched the knight off his feet, sending it flying across the room and into the wall. Kateri pulled the bolt, ejecting the spend shell and then she pushed the bolt, loading the new one in. She walked up to the knight and pointed the barrel between its eyes, pulling the trigger one last time and it disappeared. In its place, a black line began moving down the extra hall, one that Kateri sprinted to try and catch up to.

At the end of the road was a large tree... one that looked older than hell itself. Kateri slowly put her sniper back, approaching the tree slowly as the shadow moved up its trunk and stopped directly at a hole that was roughly at Kateri's arm height. She reached in and felt her hand touching something... "Smooth?" she said in a hushed tone. She grabbed it, pulling the object out and watching the tree wither and die in seconds. The item was a lacrima of sorts, and glowed brightly in her hands. Kateri stuffed it under her cloak, feeling Shadow grab it in his mouth and then Kateri turned around to trace her steps back to the tunnel. After that, she went back to Lamia Scale guild hall to give it to someone who may know what to do with it.
