Personality:
Money. That is the first and most important priority that is in Aldous’ mind, for nothing else holds any more weight than the cold and hard feel of jewels jingling in his hand, slipping between his fingers as he counts them with the most explicit and intense of care, making sure that not one bit was lost. Power? Ambition? Tyranny? Freedom? All those are nothing more than dirt to the gold that Aldous desires with a fervent and unyielding energy. Maybe you can call him an asshole for being such a money-minded person but you cannot deny that the way he pursues his journey for riches is indeed respectable. For a comparison, where Natsu would work in utter torture and mind-breaking effort to protect his friends, Aldous does the same for money. Giving up when money is just so near is almost unthinkable for him. However, behind his image of a greedy bastard that drools over cash, Aldous actually holds a different idea for his desire for money. He sees not in it as a means to an end; he does not find it as a way to a life of luxury and ease for the rest of his life. Instead, he sees it as the only friend that he can trust; an entity that does not change with the times, a timeless objective that he can put his heart and soul in for, without needing to worry if it would deny him his focus.
Aldous also possesses a strong sense of honour. It is the reason why he does not become a petty thief or a thuggish highwayman, as well as why his chosen brand of magic is not something that can help him gain money easily. He understands the ugliness of blood money, though he will not reject it, and absolutely refuses to do things that require him to utterly destroy his honour, as well as his mentality to put the entire all of his being into what he did. In fact, the key question for him is: how can one tell himself that he had earned something, when he has taken the easy way out?
With other people, Aldous is not afraid to display his money-wanting face and does not care for how other people view him. Once upon a time, he did care but that was when he had a different focus. Money is an object, lifeless and lacking an opinion. And even though he now cared about how money viewed him, the aforementioned fact makes that fact nothing more than an accessory of reflexive behavior. However, due to his past of struggling to find a viable focus, Aldous has picked fragments and pieces of how people feel and view things and this makes him empathetic when he recognizes such personality and opinions in front of him.
Aldous’ honor also demands him to display respect and he does it entirely out due to that honor. Relationships, opinion and his mood have little bearing on this display. Friend, foe and stranger, all of them get the same treatment and are referred to by him frequently by their formal family name. While this has the effect of making him seem dignified, it gives him a professional air that places everyone away from him.
A distance that he greatly prefers.
In his religious beliefs, Aldous has nothing but his idea of a focus in life. And since his decided focus would be money, his ‘god’ becomes the very representation of wealth itself. Truthfully, if you look over his personality, you will realize the truth is that he is a spiritual person who possesses great willpower and personal strength, searching for the essence of his being and develop his own inner life, with the gripe being only that the way he has chosen is something that most people would find very disagreeable.
In his past, five previous focuses had been pursued by Aldous, only for him to face pain when time exhibits its omnipotent power to bring about change. These five are: friends, power, results, religion and love. His hurtful and heart-penetrating experience with all of them has left a tint of distaste for them in his mouth but not enough such that he would completely rid them from his life.
Now finally, in battle, Aldous’ battle style fits his chosen style of magic, which is long-range and from a distance. His personality in battle is focused, morose and silent, as he fights with a flexible single-mindedness that makes him both tactical and aggressive. When he has allies, his honor means that he protects them from incoming attacks but it is not enough for him to work together with them. But when his mind connects the dots that allies equal a greater possibility of success and subsequently earning money, that barrier is removed and he becomes willing to cooperate but to a still limited extent. When there is a need for CQC, Aldous tries to make sure he can make some distance between him and his opponent, by both getting himself away and pushing his counterpart back. At the same time, he has a tactic to leave behind his lower-level spells as traps in case his opponent tries to pursue.
In leadership, Aldous focuses on the completion of the mission. The safety of his allies are secondary to him and are only truly cared for if he thinks they are needed to make the job work. His honour, however, makes him willing to give his allies free reign and does not demand from them support when he is fighting from long range.
His teeth-gritting determination grants Aldous a natural ability to ignore some of the pain inflicted against him and provides him a great amount of strength to push himself back up even if he is severely injured. This can work against him when it means that he is given a chance by his opponent to run away, for it can cost him his life if he pushes himself too much. Like a daruma doll, you can keep getting back up, but in the end, your body may not be able to take it. When it no longer concerns him about money and is instead going to a truly personal level, Aldous will see no need to hold back and will unleash all of his power. Nothing changes in his personality when this happens, but his anger will begin to show in the form of roaring and battle cries.
Likes:
-Money. Though it is mentioned in his personality, I will say it again. Aldous is a person who does not see money as the way to gain luxury and a good life. It is instead the focus and ‘friend’ that would give his life something he could call ‘meaning’. Through the acquisition of money, Aldous allows himself to feel that his life has become something he could be proud of. How much he would need to get, he does not know yet.
-His magic. Inadvertently, as he pursues the focuses he had established in his life, the magic he has brought along with him throughout his extensive and grueling journey through hell and back has begun to grow on him, making him form a bond with it. When he had initially looked on it as Dark Magic that threatened his honor, he now pursues to improve his brand of magic with a powerful effort that is still quite less than his fervent pursuit for money, but it is great enough that sometimes, he wonders whether this is the true focus he was looking for.
-His environment. Glaciers, forests, jungles, mountains, all these vessels of nature are all places that through their magnificence and beauty, give Aldous peace of mind that he finds to be extremely comfortable, being comparable to a break from his endless and frequently stressful fight for his life focus.
-Books. Again, this allows him to give himself a well-deserved break from his charge and also, with the magic book for his magic, he also takes notes and does truly ravenous research on his brand of magic, so that he could develop it further, as well as hopefully enabling him to get more experience in it.
-Cup noodles and microwave food. While most people might only see this as a boring and unappetizing piece of nutrition, Aldous’ hot-blooded efforts for money has made him frequently rush too fast to get proper food and in his long use of these quick and easy dishes, he has developed a great liking for them, even carrying several in his bag.
Dislikes:
-Time. Although it is a dislike that is more figurative rather than literal, a lot of the suffering that Aldous has gotten in his history was due to the passing of time and the alteration effect that it has on things that you thought you truly knew, making it such that if enough time passed, your initially correct perception on a concept can suddenly be shown to have become outdated and thus totally wrong.
-Losing money. It is extremely counter to his focus and makes him more stressful when he realizes that he has lost a few jewels. The same can be said when he uses the money to buy things, for while he can comfort himself when he finds a good deal, he is utterly upset when he is forced into a bad one.
-Failure. Be it from himself, others or his enemies, Aldous can see when failure has happened. In turn, this will make him silently chide the failing one for not trying hard enough or for not trying to make up for it if they have given up.
-Love. The most painful of his five past focuses, romantic attachments have become something he desperately avoids, for out of it, the failure of this focus has horrendously shook him from the inside. He no longer wants the same thing to happen to him.
Motivations:
-His chosen focus of earning money has made Aldous a resolute juggernaut in pursuit for this meaning-giving entity called ‘jewel’ and when he achieves in getting it, his heat skips a beat as relief overcomes him, for it marks that it is closer to his fulfillment of an inner life.
-Developing his magic is also a secondary motivation, for not only it means it is easier for him to succeed in getting money, the bond with his magic increases as he further personalizes it to himself.
-Spiritual fulfillment. The ultimate point that Aldous seeks through his money-gaining means, this goal of Aldous is to simply get his life to reach its fullest and to seek answers within himself, becoming a person he could truly call a person he would be proud of. Be it fighting to the death or living to old age with his fulfilled focus, Aldous can embrace any end to his life, as long as he went down being who he really was and never buckling under the pressure of time.
Fears:
-Losing himself in his pursuit. Despite his choice of focus, Aldous understands that the path he has chosen is considered sinful for a reason and he fears that if he loses his honor, his self-respect and his understanding on the path, he will have essentially failed altogether in his journey for self-spirit and internal peace, for all that can be considered ‘self’ and ‘internal’ has been lost.
-Heart-break. It is said that having your heart broken many times would make it stronger and solid like how steel would be strengthened by the torturous beating it must endure. But that is a lie. There is a reason why you can compare your heart to a stone, in the phrase ‘a heart of stone’. Just like how stone erodes under the constant pressure of the rushing river currents, the heart cannot recover itself when it has been broken. Sure, it can stamp a Band-Aid on, but that just makes it more vulnerable and afraid of breaking more.
-Falling in love. Tied to his second fear, as well as his past heart-break from the failure of this certain focus, Aldous finds himself struggling and stumbling when he realized that he has fallen in love.
-Losing money. While it might seem to be the first priority given his money-minded persona, this fear is actually small in comparison to the others, but in the end, he holds a deep sense of dread when he is close to losing jewels, for it indicates the enlarging of the possibility of failure.
Height: 1.89 meter or 6'2"
Weight: 86 kg or 190 pounds
Hair: Black, kept in a messy and almost-explosive style, can be comparable to have bed-hair.
Eyes: Dark gray, with a shade almost on the edge of black.
Skin Tone: Beige with a slight side towards pale.
Appearance:
Aldous is above average in his height and his musculature reflects his long-distance, close-combat-unsuited battle style, being lanky and moderately muscled, never reaching the scale of true close-combat fighters. His face is quite tough and noticeably lacking of fat, giving it a very firm and sometimes even stern look, which is not helped when bolstered by the fierce frown that he usually shows. His eyes are slitted and tight, being extremely focused and showing off a hard edge, along with even a glare that could be considered equivalent to a famished wolf eyeing its prey. His outfit changes with the times, but now with this application it would be a black trenchcoat that is worn improperly on his shoulders, allowing it to flow over the sides of his body completely, making it a cloak of sorts. His inner wear are a white long-sleeved turtleneck that is usually with rolled up sleeves, as well as a tight-fitting sapphire blue jeans that are slightly too long for him, as the excess fabric collects over his black hard boots.
