A Shadow is as Dark as its Light is Bright
The sun shone high in the sky over the Talonia Arena as Kyoden stood before the massive structure with the blankest of expressions on his face. It was the day of the final game of the Fiore Cup; A basketball tournament which many that day would tune into on their lacrima televisions at their homes. The team that Kyoden was playing for that day, Yosen, was one of the top teams in the nation. They had won the Fiore Cup three times in a row in the previous years. This win would make it four. The team's center was injured just a few days before and they were in desperate need of a replacement player. This center's name was apparently Murasakibara or something. But when Kyoden answered the request to take his place, the rest of the team told him that he looked remarkably similar to him.

So now, as Kyoden stood before the entrance of the arena, he looked around only to see tons of people funneling into the arena itself like moths to a light. Kyoden entered through the front door and went into the locker room. When he entered, he saw the rest of the team sitting down on the benches, waiting for their time to enter the court. They all looked up at him in awe of his height. The coach's eyes widened as he said, "Oh it's you! Thanks so much for helping us. The others were right, You really do look a lot like our injured center." Kyoden didn't respond and just scoffed. He turned and opened up a locker where he retrieved his uniform. He slipped into the shorts and jersey within a minute and picked up his bottle of water.

The announcer's voice could be heard just outside as he got ready to introduce the teams. Everyone in the locker room got into a single file line with Kyoden standing at the back. The announcer's voice continued to boom as they got ready to go.

A roaring crowd broke the silence of the rather tense changing room that the young dragon inhabited. He was seated in a corner, literal steam flowing in circular formations from his back while his face was buried in his hands. Clearly the bus journey over to the Talonia Arena with the rest of the team hadn't been Ibara's greatest experience. To make matters worse, as if it could get any worse from a Dragon Slayer whom despised moving vehicles, their heated singing as they attempted to pep themselves up for the game only burst Ibara's eardrums, putting him in an even more sullen mood. That only brought him to question why he was here. The silence that had now dawned on the changing room gave him the perfect opportunity to finally think about the situation. Why was he here.

    A few days before...

Ibara walked up and down the streets of Motor City. It had only been a few days after his completion of the Rogue Robots job with a fellow flame slayer known as Venir. She had recently vacated the scene while Ibara decided to bide his time in order to explore a completely foreign place to him. Exploring the world had always been a hobby of his. Absorbing every little piece of information about a universe that the dragons once ruled brought him one step closer, one at a time, to his father, a former ruler of the path in which he trod. Had he known about the proposition that was to come, maybe Ibara would've decided to hold off on his relatable-fatherly antics at the time.

A few men in tracksuits were walking up the opposing street. They were calling out, words that were inaudible to the uninterested young dragon slayer whom kept his distance from the loudmouths. Their tracksuits read Seirin High, an underdeveloped local highschool in Motor City whom were hoping to rebuild their team to the former glory that they once held in their grasp. One of their players, Kuroko was his name from what Ibara barely managed to grasp, had left them for some reason or another. Something about a mysterious disappearance and their being unable to locate him once more. They were in search of a new player, someone who could fulfill the role that Kuroko once played.

    Back to reality...

"How'd you lose this guy anyway? Ain't he as tall as you lot?"

Seirin laughed in response. Clearly this was an inside joke between them which the young dragon failed to understand in it's entirety. Regardless, some of them had already vacated the changing room. The captain known as Hyuga was already barking orders, something Ibara didn't appreciate but respected. The team assembled outside the changing room and walked into the arena that hosted the Fiore Cup final. They were greeted with a roaring crowd although Ibara presumed these roars weren't directed at them but the three-time champions that had already vacated onto the court. They were an impressive bunch, more muscular and armed with more expertise than the entire Seirin team put together but what they lacked was spirit. Seirin bunched together and they carried a demeanour, an aura that would fail to compute with any other team no matter how hard they tried. In some regards, Ibara could say he was proud to be walking onto the court with them. Other parts told him to turn back now.

    "Well.. Let's do this-"

Ibara was cut off as the Seirin High team grabbed him by the shoulder and pulled him into a group huddle just as the whistle was about to be blown to signify the beginning of the game.

    "SEIRIN... FIGHT!"

Their chant drowned out the surrounding crowd and Ibara couldn't help but chuckle a little to himself. As they dissassmebled from the huddle, all with stern looks on their faces, clearly prepared for battle. Some did little pre-game rituals while others simply moved to their designated positions. For the mean time, Ibara moved to the bench. Clearly he was meant to fulfil his role as the team's trump card, as Kuroko once did. Besides, observing the match and the behemoths that Seirin faced up against seemed like a strategically optimal move at the time.

As the team entered the arena, roaring crowds blared from every direction around them. Kyoden actually had to duck a fairly significant amount in order to avoid hitting his head against the doorway on his way in. The purple clad players of Yosen High towered over their competitors, Seirin High. The team's captain and small forward were particularly tall. Not quite to the same level as Kyoden, but they definitely had a height advantage over everyone on Seirin. There were two other players who were much shorter, however. The point guard, Kensuke Fukui, and the shooting guard, Himuro Tatsuya.

As the whole team practiced before the match on the half-court, Kensuke didn't really stand out as a particularly interesting player in comparison to the others. He was decent enough at passing, but there wasn't anything special about him that Kyoden could see. Himuro was similar in the sense that he did not do anything hugely different from anyone else, but Kyoden immediately noticed how immaculate his shooting form was when he went for a three pointer. It was so flawless that the slayer didn't even notice when he first entered into his form. Kyoden had a feeling that this guy had a couple of tricks up his sleeve that he was reluctant to reveal yet. Himuro went for another practice shot and Kyoden watched as the ball sailed directly through the net, not even drawing anywhere near the rim.

"Next time, i'll do that with one arm."

Himuro uttered the words with a large degree of arrogance and cockiness in his voice. It was obvious that the shooting guard put too much faith into his abilities. Kyoden decided to show off some skill of his own as he held his hands out in front of him, pointed at Kensuke. The point guard passed him the ball in one swift motion and Kyoden immediately dribbled up to the goal and dunked the ball with such force that he feels the rim itself loosen ever so slightly and the goal shake a bit. The team stares wide-eyed at him for a moment before the referee blows the whistle indicating the start of the game.

The majority of the team goes to sit down on the bench while Kyoden and the other starters take their positions on the court. The slayer stands at the half court line with his knees slightly bent, waiting for the tip off. The ref tosses the ball up and Kyoden reaches it to toss back to his team without even having to jump. The crowds cheer as Himuro catches the ball firmly. Everything is set in motion as the game clock begins to tick down.

A whistle reverberated around the young dragon's eardrums clearly signifying the beginning of the match. He had made a mental note beforehand of what exactly he was dealing with, an assessment if you will of the opposing players who had been demonstrating their ability on the court as some other form of a pre-game ritual, similar to Seirin's cheerful shout before they also began to train. Ibara never felt he could be daunted in a sport completely unrelated to him but watching them play certainly replaced that initial notion. Some of their abilities were flawless, their skill unmatched but their arrogance seemed to be their downfall. A man named Himuro proposed he could take a shot while lacking the necessary limbs to do it in the first place.

"What a punk.. Are you allowed to punch in this game?"

Ibara's heterochromic eyes had turned to a small woman next to him whom sat there clutching her clipboard with her eyes focused on the team opposing them. She too looked worried but spared a moment of her time to respond to Ibara with a smile on her face and small shake of her head. Clearly she wasn't in the mood for talking, nerves had gripped her as much as they had over the young dragon. He shook his head regardless. He wasn't about to let nerves dominate his mind. This was a time for battle regardless of the circumstance nothing would phase him now, he had that survivalistic mentality.

During Ibara's train of thought, he had failed to realise that the opposing team had won the tip-off thanks to the gargantuan man whom had as bizarre a hair colour as Ibara. He was without equal when it came to height, it would undoubtedly mean the fiery dragon slayer would look like a shrimp in comparison but for what Ibara lacked in bite, he made up for in bark and he was going to make that message clear.

Ibara sighed as several minutes passed. Himuro and the tall, purple-haired man were absolutely dominating the Seirin team. Within those several minutes, Seirin had failed to score a point, none of them were tall enough nor powerful enough to get past the giant and none were skilled enough or fast enough on defence to defend from Himuro's shot that seemed to get through any hand at every opportunity no matter how obtrusive they were. There were members on the Seirin team that stood out though despite the lack of points. A man with darker red hair with staunch muscles and extremely bizarre looking brows was fast around the court, he would have scored on several opportunities if it weren't for the colossal titan that stood in his path. Hyuga too, his shooting ability was without equal according to the coach but it seemed their current situation wasn't helping his nerve and by default; his shot.

"You do realise you're setting the bench on fire right? Get off your butt, you're in."

The coach's eyes were focused on the bench beneath the young dragon which seemed to be rapidly setting ablaze as Ibara's toosh remained firmly planted on the seat. With the realization finally setting in that he was endangering his teammates simply through being nervous, he shot to his feet and clicked his fingers would dissipated the flames from beneath him.

"I-I wasn't nervous.. I'm just heated! It's about time anyway.."

The coach raised an eyebrow before raising a hand to cut him off. Clearly his excuses weren't very convincing and he was glad to be given the opportunity to shut up for once.

"I'm not going to give you a position. You don't seem to know anything about basketball anyway so all you have to do is score as many points as possible. That shouldn't be a problem right?"

Ibara could only respond with a slightly fanged grin as steam began to roll from his feet causing scorch marks to appear on the ground just before the court began. His eyes began to glow and he turned away from the coach as all this occurred.

"Heh, don't need to tell me twice.."

It was about time Ibara set foot on the court, with every step he took, the ground beneath him began to blacken and with one foot on the court, he saw a basketball whizzing towards him. Clearly the timeout was shortlived because as soon as he set foot on the court, the match went underway again. Two members of the opposing team surrounded him, clearly this was some kind of defensive formation. However they had to shield their eyes due to the sheer heat radiating from the young dragon's body and instantly Ibara was passed them with the ball bouncing faster and faster at his feet.

    "You're going down big guy.."

Ibara's yellow eye began to glow as he pulled up just behind the three point line as Himuro loomed close to him. Himuro couldn't keep up with that transition of pace and he immediately fell to his knees while the crowd shared a mixture of oohs and aas. The ball left Ibara's hands in a shot he witnessed Himuro doing earlier, an attempt at copying the shot so he could ascertain how to shoot in the first place. Like all things first learnt though, it turned out to be a massive interpretation.

    "Shit."

The ball sailed over the backboard and into the crowd with a trail of steam behind it. Several screams could be heard from within the stands as a blazing hot ball (although not set a light) now stood in the centre of an empty stand while Ibara raised his hand to his face and slapped himself wholeheartedly.

"Guess I haven't gotten to grips with it yet.."

The Fiore Cup [Job/Blood Plus] Empty Re: The Fiore Cup [Job/Blood Plus]

Post by Yuu Blitzkrieg 12th June 2016, 12:50 pm

With the ball in motion, the game went along at a breakneck speed. Seirin was trying their hardest to move the ball quick enough to break through Yosen's formations, but they were failing miserably. The team was playing defensively for the most part, and doing a damn good job at it. Seirin had yet to score even a single basket. They weren't called the Shield of Aegis for nothing. Despite the team's singular focus on defense, Kyoden and Himuro's offensive plays were easily breaking through Seirin's lackluster defenses. The gap between the two team's scores was getting wider and wider as the first quarter dragged on.

At the start of the next play, the blonde haired point guard stood at half court while dribbling the ball steadily behind him. His eyes darted around, scanning the court to find the perfect opportunity to make a play. Kyoden stood right underneath the basket with Seirin's brown haired center pushing against him, trying to stop him from moving freely. The man was big, but not nearly big enough to easily stop the slayer. With the flick of the wrist, the leather ball quickly left Kensuke's hands and flew through the air directly towards the basket. Initially, it would appear to most as an awful attempt at a three pointer, but Kyoden recognized it as what it truly was. The horseman leaped into the air with Seirin's center not far behind and caught the ball with only one of his extremely large hands. When he felt the rough leather against the skin of his hand, he instantly turned around to jam the ball into the basket, but the brown haired center had his hand raised, ready to do everything in his power to stop Kyoden. It was not enough, unfortunately for him. The opposing player managed to get a grip of the ball with one hand as he tried to push against Kyoden with all of his strength, but the slayer overpowered him with relative ease and slammed the ball through the net with a satisfying crash, causing the man to fall back to the ground on his behind.

    "Tsk"

For a team that made it all the way to the tournament finals, Kyoden was very disappointed in how they stacked up against him and his team. He glared at the man on the ground for a brief moment with steady and focused eyes before turning around to go set up for defense. That was when he heard a voice behind him.

    "Fast break!"

Kyoden's eyes widened as the ball was throws across the court directly into the hands of a player with dark red hair. The slayer and the rest of Yosen immediately hustled even faster to get back to their side of the court and stop the man. The power forward made it to the free throw line before launching himself through the air towards the net.

    "A lane up?"

Asked the team's captain as he watched the player sail to the hoop in awe. The red haired player was about to slam the ball in, when seemingly out of nowhere, a massive shadow appeared behind him, blocking out the stadium lights overhead. The figure's hand whipped out from the side and knocked the ball out of the man's grip before the dunk could be completed successfully. Everyone on both teams was in awe of how fast Kyoden was able to cover the length of the entire court the reach him that quickly. The slayer stood there expressionless and simply looked up to the scoreboard overhead.

    Seirin                  Yosen

    0                                20

He couldn't say that he really enjoyed playing basketball, but he did enjoy winning for sure. It was shortly after this that the horseman noticed another player subbing onto the court. He was the shortest one there, but there was something rather intimidating about him. Everyone managed to set up for the next drive, with Seirin on offense. Their point guard immediately passed the ball into the hands of the new player who was quickly surrounded by the two forwards of the team. It was clear that they sensed something off about the player as well. But before anyone had any time to react, the new player had managed to somehow break through the double team and start driving down the court. "Wha-", muttered Kensuke as everyone turned around to attempt to stop the man. Himuro was the closest one, so he managed to get inbetween the ball-carrier and the goal. Kyoden saw the red haired player muttering something under his breath before performing a lightning fast crossover which caused Himuro to fall over in humiliation. Fortunately enough for Yosen, despite this guy's amazing dribbling skills, he didn't appear to be the best at shooting as he missed a free shot after quite literally getting rid of the defender on him. Regardless though, this player could give Yosen some trouble later on. Everyone set up for offense as there was a new fire in all of the player's eyes.
