Caster or Holder: Holder/Caster
Description: Shadow Blade magic is a type of magic that can be considered both holder and caster. The magic allows the user to manipulate and create shadows for a variety of purposes, mainly combat. The holder part of it is that the magic is contained within a sword the user wields. When the sword is sheathed the user can use little to no magical powers. (It is worth noting that the blade in question does not have to be a sword, but it will be referred to as such in this post)When the user unsheathes the sword, he will have an aura of shadows around him, ( it looks a bit like rouge's "Shadow Drive") (also in this case it will turn Tanik's white hair to jet black) and be able to use the magic fully. If someone else were to unsheathe the sword besides the swords owner, it would grant the powers to the swords owner, not the person who unsheathes the sword. (Although most spells require the sword in hand to be able to use). The caster part is that there are a few spells that the user can use without needing the sword in hand. These spells are cast directly from the user.
The user of this magic can utilize a variety of tricks. Here are a few examples: Hiding in other shadows to be stealthed, Creating different tangible shadows for a variety of situations, and Utilizing concentrated shadow energy for AOE spells. The nature of shadows allow for quite a bit of creative freedom while using this magic.
Strengths: The sword offers great single target damage while other spells offer some good AOE as well.
Shadows can be created anywhere. Does not require certain battlefield conditions
Deceptive nature of the magic makes the user a hard target to hit reliably.
Weaknesses: The Magic is contained almost fully in the sword. Without the sword the user is helpless.
Light sources will not stop the user from making shadows, but it will stop you from being able to blend in with other shadows for stealth purposes.
Not many defensive options
Mages with good detection skills/magic will be able to sense you hiding in the shadows.
Lineage: Spirit Warrior:
Description: A legendary war hero was once severely wounded in battle, losing control of his arms and legs. His life was rough beyond belief, but his spirit remained high and strong. He awoke one day to discover he had a strange white aura around him; and that he could move his arms and legs again. He was so overcome with joy he flailed his arms about, causing parts of the aura to shoot off of him and actually cause damage to his room. He didn't know how, but his spirit somehow manifested outside of his body, allowing him to use it for walking and combat. It wasn't permanent, but he did learn to control this new ability and bring it out to his will. It’s said his descendants are the only ones known to be able to do such a thing.
Ability: The user forces out their spirit to emanate around them in a white (or black if you’re a dark mage) aura, allowing them to manipulate it in various ways.
Usage: Upon usage, the user loses the ability to cast any of their magic abilities. Instead, for once per thread and for 5 posts or until destroyed they can manipulate their spirit aura to fight their foes in a variety of ways like a puppet. The aura protects the user from all damage but will take it itself. The spirit is vulnerable and not affected by armor or defensive abilities, having the default HP of the user’s rank. If the spirit is destroyed the user will take 50% of their current HP in damage. All damage it deals is the user’s rank in spell damage.
Unique Abilities: The body of this magics user is made of shadows. 1 in every 5 physical attacks will phase through the user.(Only works on mages of the same rank or lower) (does not apply to magical attacks) (does not require sword to be unsheathed)
The user of this magic can melt into a shadow that can very quickly navigate the ground, walls, and ceilings. The user can also use this to hide in another existing shadow. (does not require sword to be unsheathed)
The user of this magic can also form shadows that are solid and tangible. The user can make these shadows in almost any shape imaginable. (Think of it a bit like maker magic) (requires sword to be unsheathed)

Name: Shadow Destruction
Rank: D
Type: Shadow, Offensive, AOE
Duration: 1 post
Cooldown: 2 posts
Description: The spell is cast from the hand of the user, therefore does not require the sword in hand to cast. (but it does require the sword to be unsheathed). A beam of concentrated shadow energy is launched from the hand of the caster. When the beam reaches its target, (or any other surface if it misses) it will explode in a moderate AOE, knocking back and damaging the target. The beam can be cast almost instantaneously, and travels about 30 mph. The AOE at D-rank is about 5 meters in diameter. the beam itself is about as wide as the support pillar of a building. Travels 20 meters.
Strengths: Large AOE and Beam width
Fast cast and travel speed
Weaknesses: Not too difficult to dodge for a relatively fast wizard
Barriers can stop it.
A particularly strong light source. (such as that of a powerful light spell) can weaken Shadow Destruction.
The knockback isnt too far. about 10-15 meters.

Cooldown: 2 posts
Description: The spells user slashes his sword into the air and launches a shadow of the slash itself through the air, damaging anyone it cuts through and also cuts through solid objects. cast speed is as fast as the user can slash his sword through the air. Travels at about 20 mph. can travel 15 meters. but will immolate after passing through 5 people, creatures, or objects. 10% mana cost
Strengths: Lightning fast cast time
Can cut through most physical barriers (objects in the environment)
High damage (30 damage)
Weaknesses: Easily dodged by quick mages
can be blocked by magical barriers that are the same rank or higher
if it is cast 3 times consecutively, then the mana cost adds up.

Name: God Power: Shadow Eruption
Rank: D
Type: Shadow, Offensive
Duration: 3 posts
Cooldown: 4 posts
Description: The user thrusts his sword into the ground, after a few seconds, this causes shadows to erupt from all surfaces within up to a 15 meter radius around where the sword was planted. The shadows are not solid but will deal moderate damage if they hit someone. the shadows will continue to deal continuous damage for every post someone is still in the area of the shadows. 20 damage in initial post, 10 in 2nd post, 5 in 3rd.
Strengths: As a God Power, this is one of the users most powerful spells

Can be interrupted if the sword is removed from the ground.

Description: The user raises one arm into the air and a flash of darkness occurs, in which noone besides the caster can see anything. (does not require sword) (requires sword to be unsheathed). AOE is about 20 meters cubed. cast speed is nearly instantaneous.
Strengths: Enemies are completely blind for the duration (of this spells rank)
Does not require sword
The shadows are so dark not even light magic can see through them (of this spells rank)
Weaknesses: Allies are also blinded for the duration
Requires sword to be unsheathed
Moderately high mana cost (20%)
enemies are not totally helpless as they can still use magic.
