News had travelled far about the situation in Phoenix mountains, far enough to reach the ears of the Ace of Black Rose. Jin could not sit around while the lives of innocent creatures and humans were endangered. A request was posted up about the situation and some reward was offered as well. He fetched the flyer and went off to find one of kvasir’s members to join him on the job. As he walked around looking for familiar face, Kaya caught on to a familiar smell coming from somewhere nearby. Jin was in the guild hall, the smell led Kaya and Jin to Magna. Jin was dressed in his now usual attire, the sleeveless shirt with long gloves showing his dryad mark on the right shoulder. He sported a black colored jeans and wore a white colored shirt with black long gloves and white sneakers; a bit of a contrast and casual look for the heat mage. ”Ne ne Maggy, what did you make me this time?” said Kaya as she jumped around Magna smelling the food. ”Magna, we have a situation” said Jin with a serious look as he passed the job flyer. The usually smiling and happy Jin was always serious when it came to the safety of others.

He would wait until Magna read the job flyer and then speak: ”It’d be best if we hurry and get there, I don’t want to give them any more time to continue”. Jin was true to his feelings and he wasted no time making them known to both Magna and Kaya. The usually jolly and bratty Kaya was serious about this situation as well. She cared for others just like her friends and owner and didn’t like this current situation at Phoenix mountain one bit. Sophie would appear behind the two mages, interested in what the conversation was about.

Magna had been cooking as usual and this time he had decided to go with a rather simple dish, but one which had a lot of flavour and textural impact. It was a river fish fried in a light batter of crushed kaki seeds and eggs whites served with a fluffy tamago no moto sauce. It was a rather fragrant and tasty dish and one which he had been trying to perfect and improve for none other than Kaya. As a feline it was likely she enjoyed fish dishes more than most other dishes and so because of that he had tried to come up with a full course just for his feline friend. He'd also been working on full courses for each of his friends and allies. Well, except Kakuma as she would never appreciate it. With a simple motion he placed the plate down for Kaya and took the flyer.

"Demons?" Magna said surprised. He'd not dealt with anything really close to demons since the dark principal situation. He took a deep breath and then nodded. "We best get going. Should we try and find anyone else?" He picked up his special frying pan and it shrunk down in his hand and vanished. He also collapsed his chef hat and put it in his pocket. "I am ready when you are." Magna said heading towards the door. "I'll go inform Sophie, you go let Fira know and we'll meet at the docks. If you see anyone else then bring them along. I have a feeling we could do with the help."

With that he headed off to go find Sophie and inform her of the job request. Once that was done a determined and serious Magna headed down towards the docks to meet Jin. They would have to head off ASAP. When he reached the docks he used some of his funds to requesition a ship to get them as close to the phoenix mountains as possible rather than its usual route to Hargeon. It would be more efficient and mean they didn't have to waste time finding other methods of transport.

”Okay, thanks” replied Jin when told that Magna would take care of informing Sophie. It would be more time efficient and give Jin some more time with Fira. Kaya had only begun to eat and she wanted to enjoy the taste so she let the two depart and decided to meet with them later. She ate as Jin and Magna departed leaving her behind. Jin rushed to the residential area of the guild to meet up with Fira and inform her of the job and their departure. Jin climbed up the stairs and rushed to his apartment where he knew she would be. He opened up the door and Fira had just woken up, still dressed in the same way as last night, she rubbed her eyes as she stared at Jin with a blank face. ”nani?” inquired the ace’s wife, he then explained the whole thing to her. She slightly frowned but she was well aware that it came with the territory. She gave Jin one tight hug which was difficult to get out of but he somehow managed it and then he left to meet up with Magna.

The first one to arrive at the docks was Kaya since she was only eating what Magna had prepared and was finished before either could finish what they had to do. ”Jeez, how long does he intend to take, slow poke” said Kaya making a slightly angry face. Jin was the last to arrive but he finally arrived. ”Looks like it’s just us again” said Jin as he arrived alone. He didn’t meet up with anyone who could offer help with this job so it was up to them to do it. After that the group boarded the ship and Magna arranged for them to head straight for their direction. A more effective and efficient way, a good decision made for the team. Jin used his position and influence as a dryad to make it so that Magna didn’t have to pay for the trip. He could manage a little something like that, dryads were the higher ups of the island.

The three companions boarded the ship which immediately set sail. Jin had used his influence and Magna some of his own in order to get the ship to not only sail to a location it normally wouldn't but also to sail at full speed and to leave immediately. In this situation there was no time to waste. They had to hurry and get to the location and defeat this demon before its toxins further evolved and began to contaminate more. This was not a job for hesitation or holding back. This was a job where they would be forced to go all out. Not only to complete the job quickly, but also just to survive. He focused and the knife at his side began to glow brightly before forming into the living armor known as Aegis, or more affecitionately by Kaya as 'guardy'. He nodded to the knight who nodded back at him. Often that was all their conversations were. He wasn't exactly a talkative individual except when it came to Kaya.

Magna then focused and conjured up some cooking equipment. The ship was soon alive with the smells of delicious cooking, but there was a seriousness to his cooking that was rarely seen. Normally, his cooking was an elegant dance, but now there was almost something more primal to it. His seriousness was flowing into his cooking and when he finished he presented both Kaya and Jin with a dish prepared especially for them.

For Jin it was a rather unique dish that was was shaped like a yin yang symbol, but was red and white instead of black and white. These symbolised heat and cold, the concepts behind his magic. The meal itself was in fact more than just a symbol. The red side was curry, hot in both spiciness(though not to extremes) and in temperature. The white side was rice. The meal itself was made of some rare ingredients including the meat of a watiger, a creature that could only be hunted in direct sunlight or its body was too liquid to capture. It was a meal to provide strength to the eater.

For Kaya it was sushi made from the madam fish. A rare and delicious ingredient that was said to be almost phantasmal. IT was nearly impossible to catch, but Magna had been lucky and due to the seriousness of this job he had brought it out for Kaya as it was said to bring great luck to those who ate it.

"May these meals bring you strength and luck." Magna said seriously whilst eating for himself, what appeared to be a simple apple.

As Magna summoned Aegis, Kaya ran around the summoned armored warrior; dancing a ‘happy dance’ upon his arrival as she yelled, ”yay!!!”. Then her attention was directed to the food that was made specifically for her. She grabbed Aegis’s leg in order to make a futile effort to drag him to the food as well. Obviously, in her chibi form she had no strength so Aegis wouldn’t move unless of his own will. Meanwhile, Jin bowed at Magna thanking him for the unique food that had just been made for him. ”Thank you for the food” he said as he took the first spoon which had half of both of the flavors present before him. It was an interesting mix of flavor, something he had never tasted before; something he could relate to really. ”Magnificent”, the one word that could describe this dish that Jin had just tasted.

Jin and Kaya enjoyed the remaining part of their food as their journey continued. Finally Jin finished with his. He walked to the edge of the ship as he stared into the distance thinking of what lay ahead. ”The only way to deal with such mindless creatures is by killing them, isn’t it?”, he didn’t like what he might have to do in this job. Jin as a mage, detested killing; he did not approve of it. He would never do it and would continue to avoid it if it was the only option he had left. However, would he still be able to uphold his principles in a situation such as this? He never thought that such a day would come where he would have to consider about his convictions. If he left these things alive, they could evolve and become more dangerous than they already were. So leaving them alive was practically putting humanity in danger, in the worst case scenario. Could he really not kill these creatures?

Post by Shard 29th August 2015, 12:59 pm

Magna was more serious than he could ever remember being. Even more serious than when he was on the dark principal job. That had involved saving children. This one could potentially involve saving the world. It was just the four of them again. The fate of the world in their hands. A situation Magna had not ever asked for or wanted. He just wanted to cook and make people happy. His eyes had changed from their usual golden hue to one of dark red almost mimicking the blood they might have to spill this day. He would do his best to keep the group alive and to complete this job. If the world ended and he somehow survived then what reason would he have to exist? Still, was he really ready for such a job? Such a heavy responsibility?

He looked at Aegis who was pretending to be dragged by Kaya towards her food. It was quite entertaining or at least it would of been if it wasn't for the seriousness of the situation. Aegis understood that, but around Kaya he seemed unable to be his usual stoic self. Or perhaps this was his true self? Kaya on the other hand probably didn't understand the seriousness of the situation. She was like a small child always happy and joyful until it came to a fight. She was like a shining beacon amidst the seriousness of the ship.

Magna was truly worried about this job. Like Jin he did not kill or at least he only did so if he intended to use that creature for food. It only seemed right in his opinion. However, today he would have to kill wouldn't he? In order to save people. In order to protect his friends, no, in order to protect his family. "I don't like it, but I have no choice. I won't let them die due to my weakness." he said to himself a note of determination in his voice. He turned to the others who had finished their meals.

"Today is probably our toughest challenge yet. I wish this burden had never come to me, but...I will do my best to complete this job." he said and exhaled deeply. "I wish the others were here."

[color#6a5acd]”Yeah, me too”[/color] said Jin with a slightly sad tone as he too missed the remaining family of Kvasir. This was a tough job and it would have been a lot better if all of them were together on this. ”I will do the best I can”, they would need to give it their all. ”Me and guardy will squish them buggies” said Kaya in a confident manner. Jin didn’t remember about telling Kaya, then how did she know? It appeared that there was more to her. She did pay attention to many things and tried best to understand them but no matter what the situation, she trusted her friends more than anything. That was probably the reason why she could still manage to smile and giggle, while knowing the difficult task ahead. ”I wish I could have that much confidence”, he couldn’t help but be slightly jealous of Kaya. Even though both Jin and Magna were now veteran warriors, this task was too daunting. That is why it had both of them at unease.

The Phoenix mountains were now within visual range. There was still quite a distance though, so they wouldn’t get their before it got dark. Considering the crew, they wouldn’t have much of a backup so Jin and Magna would probably have to camp there. In terms of food, they would have no issue but for camps and other supplies; they might have been slightly unprepared. This was not a task that could’ve been done in a single day and that fact hadn’t been considered by both mages. ”If we end up camping there, we’ll need some supplies. It would be better if we stayed in the mountains, to lure more insects towards us. That’s probably the right way to deal with insects right?”. Jin was no insect expert but when it came to flies, that was the typical approach. Lure them out and then finish them off. Sometimes, even the most complex of situations had the most simplest of solutions. With this in mind, he went ahead to talk to the captain of the ship and inquire about the supplies.

"Depends really." Magna said with a shrug. "Some insects you lure out. Others you have to take them out at the source, destroy the nest." he explained. He himself hadn't really had to deal with it much, but he remembred one place he stayed and cooked in for a month that had a big wasp problem. You couldn't just lure the wasps out. You had to destroy the nest. That was what they might have to do. He didn't know what kind of bugs they were up against. Jin was right that they might have to camp to at have themselves fully rested and ready for this job. The problem was they didn't have supplies for camping. However, with the weather how it was it was possible they might not need much. Still perhaps they could at least set up some sort of perimter or something.

"Well we have tools." Magna said thoughtfully. "Perhaps if we can't get find supplies we can cut down some trees or something for a rough shelter?" However, as he said these words Jin was already gone. Magna sighed deeply. Had he been talking to himself the whole time? That was somewhat depressing. The ship would dock soon and then they would have to do the last bit of the journey on foot. Still, it would be dark before they got there. Not really enough time to set up a shelter. Perhaps a fire and some wooden stakes surrounding the campsite or something. Perhaps the creatures would swarm like moths. However, with Kaya's nose it was unlikely anything would sneak up on them. It might just be enough.

Staying in the mountain was something that was needed. Luring the insects would be great. However, if that didn't work they could likely use Kaya's sense of smell to find the nest and exterminate them at the source. Fire would be a good thing for that or perhaps cold. Both might work equally well. They would have to see

Post by Okura Jin 2nd September 2015, 10:30 am

Magna had a fair point when he commented on Jin’s strategy. Hunting them down was one part but the eventual ending of a hunt was something he did not prefer or accept for that matter. A hunt always ended with the death of the prey, didn’t it? Well they couldn’t know how to exactly deal with the bugs since they had no information about the kind of bugs they were dealing with. These were anomalies and not the usual ones around. So it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that normal strategies may just not work with them. ”We have to consider every single possibility.. I just wish I didn’t have to consider one among them”, it really was bothersome and he just couldn’t bring himself to accept it. ”Yeah you’re right, we could manage a temporary camp” , it was easier too since they wouldn’t have to carry the extra equipment. He stopped and stared into the distance while holding his chin, thinking about their decision. After pondering over it for a little while, he had to agree with Magna’s suggestion.

”Okay, let’s skip out on the camping equipment. We’ll make our own temporary shelter using tools” he said nodding his head. The mountains were now in front of them, what awaited them at their destination; they would soon know. The group wouldn’t have to wait to meet one of the current residents though. As Jin walked to the edge of the ship to take a closer look at the mountain, he could hear the flutter of wings in the distance. From the sound of it, they were not birds but rather quite the large wings to make this much a sound. A single ship headed towards the mountains isn’t much of a stealthy approach. Little did the Black Rose mages know, that the ship had been spotted and one of the territorial ones among the insects had decided to pay them a visit.

The large creature moved with great speed and emerged from out of nowhere crashing onto the main deck of the ship making a large bang sound. Jin suddenly turned to face this bold opponent, Kaya leaped off of his shoulder; waiting for Jin’s signal.

Post by Shard 2nd September 2015, 10:53 am

As they were about to dock it seemed that they had been spotted for one of their target creatures decided to make their presence known. Perhaps luring them out might work? Or was this a scout that just happened to spot them and decided to try and bring them down before they even got close to the nest? It was difficult. He didn't know whether the targets were of a hivemind like ant or bees or more like wasps. This one appeared to be a beetle of some kind and he didn't really have much knowledge of those except that they tended to come in groups. Or maybe that was just scarabs?

Either way it seemed this creature had some intelligence because it had come down hard on the ship almost as if it was trying to break the ship in two. Fortunately, the ships were sturdier than that but he could still see it straining and cracking. If they didn't bring this down now then it might take down the ship and everyone on it. The main issue was that a lot of his spells that might be effective were in fact fire based and fire on a ship was never a good idea. The creature lumbered towards the two mages, but was suddenly struck in the side so hard that it fell over.

Who hit the creature? Well that was simple. It was Aegis who had immediately summoned up Rex and gone in for a powerful swing to try and bifurcate the creature. Unfortunately, it seemed that this creature's shell was very tough and that whilst the axe had damaged it the damage was not sufficient to bring the creature down. Magna decided to take this chance whilst it was down and struggling to get back up to launch his own attack.

He rubbed his hands together and strangely their seemed to be almost a metallic chime as he did so. Then with a swing of his hands he launched off two constructs. A large fork from his left hand and a large knife from his right. Unlike Aegis who had gone for a side blow Magna decided to go for a more precise blow in the one area he knew wouldn't be armored. The eyes. Unfortunately, the creature managed to get up at the last moment and avoided getting by both. However, the fork managed to catch it in its right eye causing it to roar out in pain in a change clattering fashion.

"This reminds me of those insects we fought with Rei." Magna said offhandedly to Aegis who nodded and there was a twinkle in his eyes almost indicating that he might be grinning if he had a mouth to grin with.

Post by Okura Jin 5th September 2015, 9:28 am

The thing about monsters was that such type didn’t talk so there was no exchange of threats or any witty banter among the two opponents. It was just screams and then the clash would suddenly begin. This was a prime opportunity for Jin and Magna to understand what they were up against. Well, they couldn’t experiment much since the well being of the ship and the crew was at stake. ”Based on Magna’s attack and it’s reaction, I suppose it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that it doesn’t have a highly developed brain”. The creature didn’t seem like it was a planned attack and more like a primary territorial instinct. Kaya’s ear stood up with the mention of Rei’s name. She clearly had a thing for Rei which she couldn’t hide that much. Jin would probably tease her later about it but that would come later.

The obvious choice of spell for Jin would be cold based spells. They were on the ship and if it sank, obviously they could just swim to the shore nearby. However, it wasn’t certain that there would be no sharks around or the insects wouldn’t come to pick them off while they be struggling against the sea. So assuming that the ship sinking was not a good thing to happen was the safe way to go. Now, he just had to chose the most precise and less chaotic kind of spell he had in his arsenal. Sadly, Jin’s spells were either weak or had too much of a span to use in this situation. His heat magic did not differentiate between friend and foe. In a situation like this, using a spell would only mean endangering most around him. If he wanted to hit the creature, there were only two ways to do it. Get close and use a strong spell or simple and direct melee battle. This creature, did not look speedy but it sure looked sturdy. To be able to take Aegis’s attack and remain standing was a feat that caught Jin’s attention.

The spell he decided to go with was his signature spell. It would allow him to defend himself while launching an attack. He focused and a light blue colored armor appeared around both his arms; as soon as that happened he rushed forward launching a straight punch to the torso of the creature. Jin had already used his heat magic to give him a boost in speed to avoid any sudden counter from the creature. Kaya had stepped off of his shoulder and was ready to engage in battle if need be. Jin hadn’t told her to attack because he felt uneasy about the slime that was on this insects skin. It appeared dangerous and was probably poisonous. The creature defended with one of its arms, taking the full direct hit from Jin’s punch. Following the straight punch was an upper cut which would take advantage of the injured right eye to come from its blind spot. If it were any normal creature, it would have been lifted in the air and crashed on to the ground. However, this didn’t happen but the blow was quite serious.

After landing two good blows, Jin stepped back getting some distance between him and the monster before it could launch a counter attack. The monster was now screaming in pain thanks to his attacks and was feeling the cold thanks to Jin’s attacks. However, it wasn’t quite done yet. May be they would have to hit it harder, perhaps?

It seemed that Kaya had wisely decided to stay back because her techniques were up close and personal and whatever was on this creature's skin did not look healthy. In fact as Jin had struck with his strange heat magic armor enhanced body a few small globules had flown off of its body and when it hit the side of the deck it began to fizzle. It seemed to be some sort of naturally occuring acid. "Keep clear of that liquid. Its certainly not safe to eat." Magna said perhaps just stating the obvious, but the others might not have seen the acid so it was a good safety measure. It seemed though that the combined force of Aegis' axe, Magna's fork and Jin's ice based magic was not quite enough to bring the creature down though. Magna was about to conjur up some more spells when suddenly a large box hit the creature in the side and sent it towards the edged of the ship. It was as that happened that Aegis came in thrust his axe forward and pushing the creature one last time causing it to topple off the ship. The surprise caused it to hit the water and as Magna knew from his observances of nature insects struggled to fly when their wings were wet. Aegis had taken it out, but given it the chance to survive. That was oddly held back for him. Then again he had obviously seen the acid and knew the ship was at risk if he cut it to pieces so knocking it off the ship was the wisest move.

"Good work Aegis." he said and looked over at Jin. "Looks like the insects might be beetles of some kind. Some of those run solo, some in groups. I don't think they have much of a hive structure though. So luring them out might be our best bet." It might not work, but it might do. It was worth trying out at least. Bring the enemies to them rather than wasting energy hunting. "If they don't come out we can use tonight to recover and prepare and then strike them in the morning. Rotating watches I think."

Their teamwork paid off and thanks to the swift movements of the armored veteran, the insect was hurled into the water. ”Nicely done Aegis”, Jin too agreed with Magna and complimented Aegis for his swift movement. It was thanks to him that they didn’t have to directly deal with the creatures poison. Having dealt with their foe for now, Jin deactivated his spell which had kept him safe from the poison on the creatures skin. ”Guardy, you went like fwish and that buggy went like whoosh and splash!!”, that was almost a compliment from Kaya. Normally, she’d be jealous and say something like I could’ve done that or I could’ve done better. Strangely, she was changed for some reason. It was a pleasant surprise for Jin but he didn’t let it show since he doubted that Kaya would maintain that behavior if she figured out she wasn’t her usual self. Jin couldn’t help but smile though, he knew that this was because of her spending more time with Kvasir members. The team was growing on her and she was becoming more subtle and lady like.

Jin agreed with Magna’s assessment, it was the right way to go about this situation in his opinion too. ”I agree, let’s lure them out. Probably make some traps too so we can extract some samples for doctors to make an anti dote for the poison just in case”. Soon after, the ship docked and the group thanked the captain. Jin assured the captain that he would help them later with the repairs as appreciation for their help. ”Let’s head out, Kvasir” said Jin stepping on to the ground. ”Hai!!!” said Kaya running after Jin after looking at Aegis and Magna. At the same time, in the distance another creature far away had seen the entire scene. Was it capable of understanding the whole thing? More ever, was it capable of utilizing this information and inform other insects? Only time would tell. The story would now unfold since the exterminators had just arrived to deal with the pest problem.

Aegis just reached down and ruffled the fur of Kaya but did not say a further word for the time being. He was slowly opening up, but in truth it would still likely be a while before the doors on his heart were fully opened. Kaya however did seem to be the key whilst the team were the force that was pushing or pulling open those doors. It was nice to see and he was happy to see it. He just wished he'd been enough to do that himself. He felt lacking in some way. However, it seemed that Kaya too was evolving or perhaps maturing was a better term in her case. She was still hyper active and child-like, but seemed less spoiled. This was too likely due to team Kvasir, but he had a feeling that like Kaya was the key to Aegis' advancement, Aegis was the key to Kaya's maturing. He wondered if Jin felt that way or if he was just seeing that and using it to make himself feel better about Kaya being the one to unlock Aegis' heart instead of him.

"Traps would be good." Magna said nodding in agreement as the ship docked and at the word of Jin they began to head out. "However, considering these insects, or at least that type, can fly i'm wondering what sort of traps would be suitable. Perhaps stuff we can manually activate rather than trip wires or the like?" He considered what he could do with his own magic. Would anything he could do be useful in setting up traps? His skills mostly lied in cooking and cooking wasn't exactly the sort of occupation that provided you with trapping knowledge. Being a gourmet hunter did though. He often went out on dangerous missions to find ingredients or recipes. He'd learned a lot in his time. "Perhaps we could try to lure them into some cage's or something with bait." AS they walked Magna paused for a second and looked around. "Jin...do you get the feeling we are being watched?"

Post by Okura Jin 11th September 2015, 7:59 am

The traps were easier said than done. Jin had set traps before, at the time he was new at Black Rose and he went on a job with Elyx and Myra. They were supposed to guard a house and he set traps all over the place. It was thanks to the traps that they had little trouble dealing with the thieves. However, this situation was quite different. Given that Jin was now far more experienced than he was at the time but still, these were bugs. Will acting bait and luring the insects into a trap really work? Was it the right choice? ”Fighting and defeating them is easier when we think about capturing them. We will need some sort of cages but we can’t even be sure what kind of cage would hold them”. They did have a taste of the creatures durability and strength, if they tried to bag a creature of similar strength; it would be extremely difficult. They would probably need iron bars to hold something like that. Iron was something they didn’t have nor did they come prepared to make a cage of the sort.

”If we do make a cage, we will need to find a weaker creature than the one we just dealt with. Otherwise, our cage wouldn’t be strong enough” said Jin stating his opinion. It was about that time that Jin felt some eyes on himself but he shrugged it off as paranoia. Then Magna too mentioned it and he had to pay more attention to it. Using his thermal vision, while Kaya used her nose; after looking around a bit both of them noticed the creature in the distance. Almost on cue, Jin and Kaya pointed in the direction and said: ”Over there!!”. ”Good work kaya. It appears it’s alone, if that’s the case; I don’t want to assume but maybe.. just may be, it’s a scout”. There was nothing else but gut feeling that made him say that. They had no evidence to prove it. Regardless, letting it fly by would not be the best of choices. However, it was in mid air and even if they got to it; the only spell Jin had for long range was a linear attack. He had another one too which he thought of recently but that too was linear. In other words, it was a one shot thing. ”I’ve got two spells that I can use but I need to get in range. We need a plan”.

There was no easy way to set up any concrete traps. Cages would be hard to build to a level that was strong enough to deal with these creatures. At least if they were as strong as the one on the ship. The only likely way was to bait them into a pit or something and then fill it in. That might work. Or perhaps...bugs couldn't really fly in water. Perhaps lure them into a water pit or something? It seemed that they wouldn't have time to plan things out though because there really was something watching them. Just a single entity fortunately, at least according to Kaya and Jin. They needed to get in range to take it out before it alerted other creatures. Magna looked up at the trees an idea coming to his mind. Without even hesitating he leapt up at a branch and swung up into a tree before catching another branch with his tail. Something Jin wouldn't have seen before, but as a fellow ace he would know what it meant. He swung through the trees almost silently until he was a lot closer to the creature. They didn't have time for a proper plan.

However, getting in closer like this allowed him to at least scout what it was. He focused and connected his mind to Aegis who spoke out what Magna saw.

"Magna says there is just one creature. Its smaller than the previous one and doesn't look as heavily armored. It looks faster though and like the others it can probably fly." Aegis spoke calmly. "He says he can attack it or at least try to distract it for you to get in close. He wants to know what you want him to do. I'll relay it to him"

Magna stood calmly observing the creature which was looking around and buzzing occasionally. It was looking for something. Perhaps them? Or perhaps food? It wasn't clear. Its actions weren't exactly obvious.

Post by Okura Jin 12th September 2015, 9:42 am

Jin was caught by surprise with the appearance of Magna’s tail. Had he always had it and Jin never noticed it before? That was highly unlikely. So this only meant one thing, Magna had now become a dryad and thus an ace of Black Rose. He almost couldn’t contain the happiness he felt when he realized it. However, he couldn’t just say it out loud because if Kaya heard it she would probably make a fuss and tell the whole world. Jin had a feeling since Magna had showed it to him instead of mentioning it, that kind of meant he didn’t want it to be common knowledge for the time being. Until Magna decided, Jin would not tell his secret to anyone else. ”I had a feeling his skills would be acknowledged soon”, he thought to himself; pretty satisfied with Kakuma’s decision.

Jin heard to what Magna informed them of via Aegis. He compiled the possibilities as quickly as he could since the situation didn’t allow much room to think in detail. ”Alright, tell Magna I’ll aim to the creatures right so before I launch my attack, he will need to make sure that the bug ends up in my attack. It will need to be timed nicely so I’ll be counting on both of you”. A slightly risky attack but if it hit, it would be a sure way to take out the creature. Instead of using his usual arrow like spell which he referred to as ‘Bird of Hermes’. He had decided to use a stronger spell which he had thought of recently. It was a stronger spell and if it hit, it would cause enough damage to take down the creature. ”As soon as Magna moves, I’ll launch the spell. If I miss, he should still be in position to cover up for me”, the thoughts went through Jin’s head as he waited for Aegis to relay the information.

While Aegis and Magna communicated via telepathy, Kaya was baffled as she couldn’t understand how it was happening. Jin got into position moving swiftly and waited for Magna to make his move, as soon as he did; Jin too launched his spell in said direction right after Magna’s attack. ”Searing Beam!”, a large heat wave generated from his front and headed straight for the creature’s right. Jin had positioned himself carefully enough to make sure that the extremely heated wave would not touch any trees; otherwise it would instantly set them on fire.

As he received word from Jin via Aegis Magna prepared his move. He seemed to drop forward from the tree, but grabbed it with his tail and began to swing slowly building up momentum. Fortunately, the tree was sturdy and was making too much sound. When he deemed he had a sufficient amount of speed he launched himself off coming from the left with a powerful double kick. He wasn't the strongest in terms of physicality, but the momentum from the attack would help. It caused the creature to stumble and Magna propelled himself off. With the extra balance from his tail it seemed he had a lot more acrobatic skill. A benefit for sure. As he propelled off he flipped and launched off another set of knives and forks stabbing it in the side. Once more it stumbled and that gave Jin his opening.

With the words 'Searing beam' a beam of heat was launched that hit the creature hard and set it abalze. In order to prevent it running about and setting things on fire Magna quickly slammed his hands to the ground and a pit formed beneath the creature which it dropped into before the top sealed up. It wouldn't hold the creature for long if it survived Jin's attack, but it would certainly prevent any fires occuring in the trees. That was the last thing they wanted.

"Nice work Jin." Magna said appreciatively. THat spell was beyond anything Magna's magic could do. Well, yes and no on that. He had some pretty powerful spells that might be able to match or exceed it, but not in such a way. "Hopefully the lack of oxygen will stop the flames burning it to death, but the pit should keep it trapped for long enough...I think." It was not a perfect plan, but he had to improvise and he felt he had done a good job. Using the mental link he and Aegis shared to relay information had been particularly effective or so he felt.

Their attack was very nicely timed and produced the result that they were aiming for. This couldn’t have been possible if Jin and Magna were strangers or acquaintances. They were part of a team and had done quite a few jobs together. The two worked nicely in the kitchen almost every single day. They travelled together, conversed, strategized and ate together; all of the little things so far had led up to this extraordinary team work. They didn’t even have to talk directly or devise a strategy beforehand to do this. The two just new and were accustomed to the fighting styles of one another. This was what formed the basis of their team work. Jin was most satisfied with the outcome and nodded when he was complimented. Obviously, he couldn’t have done it without Magna’s help. That little nudge in the right direction made it possible for his attack to hit in mid air. ”Couldn’t have done it without you”, he replied with a gentle smile.

To make sure that they didn’t suffocate the monster, Jin used his thermal vision to see through the ground and sense the creature’s body temperature. It was just a heap of heat, so he couldn’t really make out what the creature’s condition was. ”I hope so too”, unless they looked directly inside; they had no way of knowing whether the insect survived or not. Jin might have gone a bit too much when using the spell. He just wanted to make sure that it was enough to take him down but he could’ve possibly used the other spell too. Well, there was no way of undoing it anyways. They had dealt with the scout for now, now they needed to set up camp and start mapping out the area. ”We’ll need a place to spend the night and a camp that would act as the base of operations for us”. He looked around the forest which appeared to be the most suitable place to do so.

”I think we should set up camp before we go out in search of the creatures. If they are responsive to sounds, they might already be on their way and we might not have to go search for them”.

Feeling that it had been long enough, and that any creature really, would of been taken down by now Magna deactived the spell and the top of his 'cooking pit' vanished revealing a rather roasted creature. He stared at it for a moment trying to see any signs of life. "If its alive then it isn't going anywhere without help." he said thoughtfully with a note of sadness and also pride in his voice. He really couldn't tell if it was alive or not and he hated killing for no reason. "Our best bet is to set up camp nearby so we can keep an eye on it."

They were in a clearing and there was a small hillside nearby which looked like it might offer some shelter from the wind and weather if anything happened. It might also be a good hiding spot. "Let's do paired watches, me and you first then Jin and Kaya" Magna said as he headed over towards the hill side. Once he was there he summoned up a simple camping stove and began to boil some ingredients in it. He didn't say what it was and it wasn't really possible to tell by looking, but it was clearly some kind of stew.

    ----------------------------------
Eventually once the stew had been eaten and the watch of Magna and Jin too the two laid down to rest and prepare whilst the watch was taken over by Aegis and Kaya. The two 'pets' but in truth they were the two companions. They were not pets. They were stalwart allies and without them neither Magna nor Jin would probably be standing there right now. He had his axe read and stood there calmly. He looked down at Kaya and smiled.

"So you enjoyed the stew?" he asked knowing the answer, but still making conversation

Post by Okura Jin 17th September 2015, 6:44 am

Jin was a bit relieved when he found out that they hadn’t killed the creature. Magna’s plan was rather simple but would most likely be effective. They would be using the injured insect as bait to lure other insects and take them on one by one. Hopefully, that would be the case. He wondered what would happen if they ended up fighting a swarm and didn’t like those chances. The worst case scenario would be the two being overwhelmed by sheer numbers. However, if these were some sort of anomaly then there was a good chance that they were not that many in number. In which case, they stood a pretty good chance at completing their objective. ”I agree, let’s set up camp and let Kaya and Aegis rest for now. We will rest during the night”, he agreed with Magna looking at Kaya. Just checking to see if she was okay with the idea. Having guard duty with ‘guardy’ was something she instantly agreed to and ran off to catch up on some shut eye. She was smart for doing that, even though she wasn’t told to do so. Normally, Jin would be telling her to go to sleep and she would be telling him she didn’t need it. Her growth was astonishing, he really liked how the team and especially Aegis had grown on her.

Jin and Magna set up camp later on and then kept watch during the day. Nothing unusual happened and then the watch switched as night fell.

”It was sooooo yummy!!!” replied Kaya as she hugged herself rolling over remembering the taste. ”Ne ne guardy, why don’t you eat? Don’t you get hungry? Do you eat alone? Do you hide when you eat? Why do you hide when you eat?”, nothing out of the ordinary. The same talkative Kaya bombarding Aegis with a bunch of random questions that made little sense.

The questioning style was quite normal for Kaya. SHe was quite hyper active and she had just woken up as well so was full of energy. It did not bother 'guardy' in the slightest. He liked her hyper active personality. It was a change from Magna and himself who were quite serious though in different ways.

"I have no need to eat little one and no desire." Aegis replied and there was a strange metallic sound as he said this. Almost as if Aegis was laughing? Or at least trying to. "Sorry, the thought of someone who does not have the desire to eat or the need being partnered with a chef as skilled as Magna was....humorous." He was about to say something else when he suddenly perked up and looked around. Something was out there. "Kaya do you smell something?" Aegis asked summoning up his axe and assuming a fighting stance. There was something in the distance, but it might just be an animal of some kind. It didn't necessarily have to be an enemy. However, something told Aegis that it was something dangerous.

"Let's not wake Magna and Jin...we can handle this." he said and then looked at Kaya and there was a twinkle to his eye as an idea came to his mind. "Want to try out the new technique I've been working on? If so then its time to get big little one." He took a step forward and then saw what it was. Two insects. One looked similar to the one burning in the hole, or that had burned in the hole as the fire was long since extinguished. The other though appeared smaller and possibly weaker. Easily something the pair could deal with, but it was also the ideal time to test out his new technique made specially to work with Kaya. Test it out now whilst it was safe for them...then they could master it for later use in more dangerous battles. "Let's do this."
