I know I have brought this idea countless times but I really feel there needs to be a solution to the exp or lack of from jobs you almost always have to have someone with you and forcing someones ability to advance on others isn't really fair. I do not know a exact solution but maybe making a system where social rps are graded by word count with bonuses if they are good quality could be a system. This way they can still get the same amount of exp from jobs but be able to do social and character development plots but gain something from their efforts. I feel this would make people want to post a lot more and actually develop backstories to characters so they become less bored and more inspired to rp.

Here would be a exp exp chart

    2,000 words 25 exp
    4,000 words 50 exp
    8,000 words 100 exp
    16,000 Words 200 exp
    32,000 words 400 exp

it is a scaling system as for the bonus something like this.

Considered first quality badge level 50 extra exp
Considered second quality badge level 100 extra exp
Considered the third quality badge 200 extra exp

Idk I actually really like this idea. It allows a social growth, without feeling bound to grind with jobs.

The idea is good but people can make jobs for their story that would work exactly like this would because if we were to add this to the site as a system it would follow the exact same rules as a job with signing up and how exp is given out.

So yeah, just make a created job that fills what you would want in something like a social for the job. Btw jobs can be made with people doing things that does not include fighting too if that is something else you would like.

D rank jobs don't require combat or dice rolls, so you could simply make a job like that and have it go as long as you wish; so long as you complete the job successfully. Heck, I even did that for my new face claim on Aiyana, where most simply just change it.

I have to say, I like the idea, since at times socials would, logically (oh no!) give someone more experience than a job would, considering.

A major component that some of you are forgetting is that jobs have defined objectives. You have a specific goal that must be reach. That is what makes a story-oriented job radically different from a social thread. It can have planning involved or just be a "go with the flow" type of deal, but the intention is usually to explore a character's personality, have him or her change, etc.

For example, If I wanted to create a thread where a boy and a girl who are bitter to each other sit down and have a discussion of why they hate each other, I couldn't really make a job out of it because there aren't any objectives besides talking. Another important thing to note in doing jobs is that there are a lot more restrictions. Implementing what Rekka suggested wouldn't necessarily bring all those restrictions into social threads.

Now, I'm not saying story jobs aren't bastions of story, role playing, and character development; they absolutely are, but you can't group them with social and plot threads. They're intrinsically different.

However, I still disagree with some of the expected benefits associated with this idea. It wouldn't really bring about a rise in how much people are posting because the rewards you proposed are so small that the people desiring experience would just find it easier to get experience via regular jobs. It could encourage people to develop backstories so that they'd have more to write about, but it could just as easily encourage people to develop their fluff techniques. Additionally, I don't think we should forget that developing a character with good story is a reward in its own right. The site shouldn't have to encourage people to do that; it's something the users should being doing themselves.

In the chat box, while you were discussing this, you brought up a problem: the only way to get experience is through jobs, which is why you're still C-rank. That's not a bad thing though. I've read some of your threads and, despite your rank, you managed to make a lot of interesting and fun threads. It tells that rank doesn't have to play a role in story and, consequently, neither does experience reward.

Despite my criticisms, I support the concept of this idea. Not because it'll help or encourage people to work on their character (I don't think it will), but because it gives a group of people (the ones who either don't like jobs or are turned off by them) the ability to not only grow their character in terms of story and personality, but also in terms of magical abilities and such.

@Daiki; It could, but I don't think that would be a good thing. Read below.

Rekka's proposed word-count/experience-reward chart (I'm guessing she's just using it as an example) would mean the same effort put into a high-end A-rank or low-end S-rank job would net less than a B-rank's worth of experience. I like that. The reason why is that (1) it's too easy abuse Rekka's proprosed system with mindless fluff which is why (2) if the rewards are low, it wouldn't attract the users who just want to grind experience and thus abuse the system. They'd instead just continue grinding jobs.

I like the idea of exp for a socials. However like a job why not make an application for said social and it has to meet certain specifications like a job with Monster rolls and such but instead of a job where you get jewels you get a bit more Exp since personal stories you really would get paid for so it would be almost like an epic social. It is made the same way a personal job is but minus the job part. Monster rolls and such

A system to allow exp for things other than jobs and duels....hmmm...i'll try and work on something. Its gonna be tricky, but i'm sure there are ways to do it.

However, what you need to realise is that 'exp' isn't just a reward for doing a job its because those jobs pushed you (or should have) so that your character develops physically and magically and becomes stronger.

There is also the fact of balancing. If we reward too much exp for a social then it could allow rank ups really quickly and make the job system pointless. So there would have to be limits based on rank. However, then it seems like S ranks get rewarded more for socialising than B ranks for example.

It is a very tricky one to balance, but i'll do my best. Right now I'm focused on trying to fix what is broken and whilst more ways to reward interaction would be great its not anything that is broken.

Also, whilst a job or story job has 'objectives' and 'plot' there is nothing saying that for a majority of said job you could socialise and do other things and then just tack the objective fulfilling on the end.

To use your boy girl thing. They were talking together to try to get to know eachother and break through their bitterness or whatever and managed to thus allowing them to work together to complete the goal of the job which might be something simple like catching a cat and that in itself wouldn't take that many extra posts. I've actually exceeded post count a few times on jobs before I even get to the job location.

What i'm saying is don't see the jobs as restrictions instead see them as more...guidelines to shape the overall flow of the RP for that job in which you can do what you like providing it makes sense

Firstly, the job system is as fun as you make it.

Make a job with no fighting if fighting doesn't interest you
Socialise in the job and build up character and get exp. Make the job's objectives secondary.
Make the fights exciting. Add your own story to the jobs. You have to fight the 'Crimson Lancer' perhaps you took the job because he killed your partner in the past or something. Jobs have objectives and enemies, but you aren't just limited to that. You are only limited by your imaginations.
You want to solo a job? Make jobs that can be soloed. Though considering the site is a community doing everything by yourself seems a bit bleh, but that's YOUR choice.

'Experience' is an indication of your mage becoming more experienced and stronger as a mage. A chat with your friend at the bar is not going to provide the same experience as battling giant monsters. At best I could see C rank exp being awarded for socials. As there just isn't going to be enough happening.

The main issue with this and the other suggestion is it is giving staff yet another thing they have to grade we already have:

    Characters
    Magic
    Weapons
    Pets
    Other items
    Secondary Magic
    Tertiary Magic
    Job creation
    Job starts
    Job ends
    Shop purchases
    Trading
    Custom lineages
    Regular lineages

There is a lot on our plate. I love the idea honestly I do, but its just a lot of work and at best its goign to reward C rank exp as a 'social thread' helps your character grow.
Throw into that something that can be as vague and objective as whether a social is useful for exp? That is a bunch of extra work. We have hundreds of members(maybe not all active, but still).
