Irina's B Rank Exam

Letter: "It's been a while since I've seen you at the Cosplay Cafe, still a weird moment that comes to mind. Well, it's your Guild Ace of Leaves with a task for you. There is an enemy that recently came to Black Rose, a Chimera of Light that was supposed to be used for your test, but for some reason, it grew corrupt. So now this is your new test, to hunt down and kill the Chimera. It has not made any known kills on the town, but it has left a trail of destruction behind it. I recommend you use that to help you out. All of the Black Rose members except for you have been told to stop any attempt at killing it. I decided to use this as a chance to kill two birds with one stone. I'm giving you three days to find and kill the beast, then come to the guild with evidence of it's death. You'll meet me in the guild hall, and then we'll talk. As always, I wish you the best of luck."

Objective: Kill the Chimera of light and bring evidence to Elyx that you have killed it. Use it's path of destruction and witnesses around the guild to help you. No one will lie about it, but some may not know about it. Once this is done, the conductor of your exam will be in the Guild Hall. Three (IC) days will be given to you for this to be completed. Minimum 300 Words per post. 4000 Words in total for the thread.

Assistance: You may have up to two Black Rose Mages other than Kakuma Blackflower and Elyx Reiaki to help you. No more Black Rose mages may participate, and their word count will only put 100 words to the total word count whenever they post. They can't make posts under 150 words.

Irina laid in bed staring at the ceiling of the room, thunder made the room shutter as she thought about the letter she had received about an hour ago. The rain was pouring leaving the sky a dismal grey, she sat up and began to think about how she would track down a monster wreaking havoc on the town. As she stoop up she grabbed her white coat, the coat had been a gift from a slave Irina had saved a while back and it was really well made, it was also her favorite coat. As she started to gather her equipment for tracking down the beast she made sure two crucial things were in order, one that she wasn't too bogged down by weapons thus she only picked up Murasame, as Nemesis was large and bulky designed for destruction and The Elemental Queen was designed for erasing large groups of enemies rather than singular targets, and the second thing was to make sure she had enough food for three days. Irina finalized her preparations by putting on a cloak with a hood to keep the rain at bay.

As Irina walked through the streets of Lavanitir she found herself coming to the docks where the beast first began its rampage. One of the docks had been completely smashed though luckily none of the boats were severely damaged. She walked up to a fisherman to ask him a very simple question. "What events happened here?" The old man simply looked at her with a puzzled face. "I have no idea, I wasn't around when it happened." Irina frowned as her first hope for a lead failed, for now she would just have to follow the beasts trail of destruction back into the city.

The trail of destruction had knocked down many power lines and left some homes in shambles though nothing was too serious, it was clear the monster went from one side of the city to the other leaving a rather crooked line of destruction through the city. She found herself at some sort of odd building, the roof had been a bit scuffed up by the monster and there was clear damage to some sort of machine at the top of the building though it didn't seem to effect its functionality as lightning seemingly attracted itself to it. Irina simply walked into the building without knocking searching for the buildings owner whom she assumed would be home at this point in time. The place was cluttered with all sorts of contraptions some complete some incomplete. She found the owner inside and promptly walked up behind him, this action in itself would be nearly impossible to detect. "Hey, could you tell my why your contraption on the roof is a bit roughed up?" She asked the man out of the blue without even giving him a hint that she had arrived.

Wolfe was once again focused on his newest invention, a newer type of vehicle. It was based on the design of a motorcycle but when he was done this was going to be something completely different, and like nothing anyone had ever seen before.

Wolfe was hard at work on the suspension for the wheels as he was hunched over the wheel on the floor as he was measuring different springs he had in each hand when he heard a voice behind him. Normal he would just turn around and say hello but he stopped dead as her opening statement was about the Teslacoil on the roof. Wolfe shot up so he was standing up and the two springs, one in each hand, just fell out of his hand. He didn't even turn to look at the sound of the voice as he turned into a bolt of lighting and shot across the room and towards a large open door behind a small counter area. He jolted right through the opening and there was nothing.

The room was silent for about 5 minutes when foot steps could be heard as he stepped back through the opening in the wall and was now walking towards Irina with a smile on his face. Wolfe was a little wet, but he was only wearing a pair of black cargo pants and his black boots. He had no shirt on and all his scars could be seen covering a good amount of his upper body and on his left chest peck was his guild mark, the Black Rose mark. He was wearing an eye-patch over his right eye, and his whole left side was covered in bandage, gauze, and tape. He walked up to Irina and extended his arm "Thanks for letting me know about that. this time it wasn't anything, just a little bit of crap i need to replace, but it only effects the exterior and looks, so nothing bad. It could have been a huge issue though..... By the way, the name is Wolfe. Who might you be, and can i help you?" Wolfe gave her a genuine smile as he spoke.

Irina blinked blankly as the man vanished before her eyes turning into lightning, she was familiar with this man they had met several times before. His name was Wolfe he used some form of lightning magic though she found herself incapable of getting an accurate read on it. As he walked back in moments later he was a bit wet from being outside and was going on about how severe the damage to his machine was which wasn't that severe. Then he went ahead and introduced himself and acted like he didn't even know who she was. Irina blinked several times as he asked who she was confused, though it was true that no one had met her with red hair and she had cut it down a bit as well and she no longer had her right eye closed. She was still shocked that no one remembered her. "You... you forgot who I am?" She said as her eyes widened into puppydog eyes and a tear streamed down her face for a moment then she disappeared into a random shady corner. "No one remembers Irina." She mumbled which was followed by a ghostly response from Murasame. "I remembered who you are." Which suddenly turned the mood from gloomy to rage as thunder cracked through the sky. "You're not a real person you damn sword!" Irina grumbled as she returned to her former composure though not so blank. "Right back to business, I am here investigating the incident with a rampaging monster it's path takes me past here, perhaps you can tell me a little about your gizmo and what kind of damage in received as well as the rest of the damage to your roof as I can't get up there to investigate myself." She asked in a nonchalant sort of angry emotionless voice with the perfect annoyed face to go with it.

Wolfe had sort of remembered Irina, but in their very slight meeting they had never got a chance to exchange names. Wolfe spoke up "Its not that i forgot you, its more that i sort of remember you, but i don't think we have ever talked. I was not trying to offended you." Wolfe wasn't sure to make of this woman but she seemed like there was more to her then he was giving her credit for. When she mentioned the monster it perked his interest. He knew of it, and from some small talk between himself and Elyx, it was intended for an exam, but something went wrong. that was the last he had heard about it till now. Wolfe shook his head, cause now he knew what had happened to it "For what it is worth i don't know much about the beast. but as for the damage on the coil, let me show you." Wolfe walked over to a corner of the room a desk over from where archive system was up and ready on.

He started to type on a keyboard hover over the table that was obviously connected tot he archive system next to them and then a page of blueprints showed up in front of him. He made a sliding motion and keyboard vanished and Wolfe reached out his hands and started too move the blueprints and shifted them so they could be seen better and then he used his fingers and hands to move the blueprints and zoom in on the area at the top of the building . He then moved his hand and it looked like he grabbed the top of the coil and he pulled up and a 3D model started to rise slightly so you could see the area from the roof up, and he blueprints were right next to it. Wolf then turned to Irina and pointed at the spot and explained th details of the components and there and how they worked as a whole for the coil.

Irina crossed her arms and tapped a finger as she pondered while Wolfe gave his explanation of his weird gizmo on the roof. She didn't care about what the thing did or why it was up there in the first place and she was kind of pressed for time. "ENOUGH!" She shouted after hearing Wolfe spew out details for far to long. "I didn't ask you to explain the whole thing to me, I just asked about what it does and about the damage that it sustained." She grumbled as she turned around. "Now is there anything about your contraption that can help me track that damn monster, if not I will be going, I don't have the time to listen to blabber." She said in a very grumpy tone only to have Murasame chime in."Irina you are not yourself, you should stop being grumpy and calm down, you have an estimate of two and a half days left to complete the mission." Irina stood there with her arms crossed for a while before sighing and letting them drop down. "You're right I am not myself sorry." She apologized to her sword only to have it chime back in. "Don't say sorry to me say sorry to the man offering his assistance." It said as Irina turned around in compliance. "My apologies, do you have anything to assist me in tracking the monster?" She asked with a slightly less angry face from before and a more serious one.

Irina started to drift into curiousity as she allowed to man to drift back into his explanation of stuff, she found herself looking over all the unfinished project and metal laying around the shop. Eventually she found herself drawn to someones contraption that looked like a funny little robot, she reached up to touch it and found herself stumbling after stepping on some lose pipe taking hold of the robots arm and pulling it clean off and landing on her butt in a little thud with the arm still in her hand. "uh... oops." She said blinking her eyes at her mistake as she looked up at the broken contraption.

Wolfe didn't take any of it personal, as most people didn't share his love of building, and creating. Wolfe listened as she explained her situation, and he nodded "u... i am sorry, i have nothing here for tracking something like that.... but.... I personally can help. ohh and don't worry about that arm.. its a dead project, i intended to her her have a robot body... but i thought of a new idea." Wolfe turned tot he table and made a swiping motions everything they had been looking at swiped away and was gone. He then turned to walk out the front door and turned to look at Irina "I can start with this.... RAINE bring up a map of the town and the surrounding 2 miles around it." As he finished he walked outside and after a few more steps he turned into lighting and shot straight up into the air.

A second later a woman's voice could be heard as a hologram appeared a few feet from Irina next tot he half finished robot "I am truly grateful he didn't use this hulking machine for my body.... Hello Miss Irina, i hope your well today"The hologram figure turned and nodded at Irina and then then vanished. She then appeared next to the table and then a fairly large 3d map of the city and surrounding area appeared. She then turned and nodded at Irina again and then she vanished again.

RAINE apperance:

A few seconds later Wolfe landed n the ground just outside the door and reformed and walked in and headed right at the table "Thank you RAINE" As he reached the maps he started to drag his hand across if and started destroying parts of the image in front of him till he took a step back and surveyed his actions and then turned to Irina "Here you go Irina, this is the exactly what the destruction in the city looks like. Maybe we can find a pattern and figure out what direction it went." Wolfe smiled at Irina as he waited for her to join him next to the hologram.

Irina watched as Wolfe disappeared in a flash of lightning, going on about some Raine and before she knew it she was staring down the holographic image of a woman. As if acting out of fear she immediately darted in behind some pile of leftover scrap metal and peered over as the holograph spoke. 'what's with this place and computerized persona's' Irina thought to herself as she watched the holographic woman pulled up a three dimensional map of the city, and then promptly disappeared as Wolfe re-entered the establishment. Irina returned to looking over the holographic 3d image of the city from up close at Wolfe moved his finger about and seeing the image react. "The monster seems to be quite cunning, notice that the destruction doesn't match up to what is on the map you've made. If anything the destruction is supposed to lead away from the docks not towards it." Irina stated pointing at how it appeared as though there were two paths of destruction, one heading through the city the other heading back to where the initial incident occurred. "It is also quite fast if it can cause this much destruction going through the city and back in one night without getting caught." Irina made a note and examined the image more. "Is it possible to take this out on the field? It would be most helpful if I could take it with me." Irina asked as she started to look around the shop for some sort of contraption that might do such a thing to a complex image, though of course she knew nothing of this sort of stuff, sure she was a member of the Research division but she didn't research technical stuff she researched magic. She then took note of the time and started to think, the creature was described as a creature of light, maybe it was easier to see in the dark. "Could you prepare a copy of that image for me and send it to my apartment by tonight, I think I will be able to track the monster better in the dark." She explained as she made her request, she didn't care if the image sent to her was simply paper or a 3D image, she just cared that the job got done. And as she finished her request she turned around and left the building to continue observing the damage to the city, and to request the presence of assistance.

Wolfe looked around and then called out to Irina as she turned and left "Yeah, i think i can do something for you." However, before he could even ask her any questions about the specs she had walked out the door without so much as a please or a thank you.

Wolfe just shook his head and walked over to another table and and found a small tablet looking item. He then started messing with it and used a wire t connect it to main table.

A few hours later when Irina returned to her apartment it was waiting in a box with instructions. It was a mobile tablet version of the same 3D city. It was also able to scan new areas and add them to the map and the map could be altered to show new changes and damage just like the one he had n the big table.

Irina continued down the streets observing the damage that occurred overnight, it was indeed as she suspected the creature was quite intelligent and had circled back towards the docks and highly likely into the jungles. She picked up a piece of rock leftover from a department store that had been completely crushed overnight, luckily the place was closed and empty at the time. Taking a moment Irina hide the rock from the light by hiding it under a piece of rubble, and as she suspected the rock glowed with what looked like a toe of some sort. The creature must have left behind glowing tracks for one to chase down, but obviously said tracks would never work in the middle of the day when it was still light out despite the fact that it was overcast. Night will be this hunt theater and in order to accomplish success at a late time she was going to need food, and a partner.

She found a small hotdog stand and ordered five hotdogs to go, though honestly she should have just asked for the man to give her the hotdogs to stay as they vanished as fast as the condiments hit them. Now she was off to find a partner, perhaps she should have asked Wolfe though she felt it was probably best to leave him to repair his machinery. Irina took out a piece of paper and began writing using her hand as a writing pad and then proceeded to head to an apartment not far from her current location. Once she arrived she left the note for the recipient on the floor by putting it through the crack beneath the door and the floor. Once again Irina was on her way and her chosen partner was no other than Lexa the note reading, 'meet me at my apartment.' followed by Irina's address and the chosen time of 9:00 PM the exact time that the sun would have set. Once she was done she returned home to discover the contraption that Wolfe had left behind, and it was everything she could have asked for, a map of the surrounding area.

Irina facepalmed as Lexa entered the room and introduced herself in full, her memory was really that bad wasn't it. "I know who you are Lexa, you should really work on remembering people." She grumbled as she fiddled with the map Wolfe had given her. She left the map on the table as she went over to get some tea she had ready on the stove. "I sent that letter to request your assistance, I hope you know how to track light Chimera." She said as she returned to the tabled with two cups of fresh tea and she started to fiddle with the map a little more. "The creature went corrupt yesterday and left a trail of destruction throughout the city, it's trail is only visible at night and makes a light glow though it is quite clearly a corrupted glow." She took a sip of her tea as she zoomed in on the creatures path of destruction. "I would rather end the creatures pitiful existence tonight before its corruption starts to spread, that's just how the power works." She turned to Lexa hoping she would sit down at have her cup of tea that she left on the table. "I request that you join me, should be more entertaining than implanting magic inhibitors in small children." Irina made note of Lexa's earlier activities, it was Irina's job to observe others after all. "We leave in a hour when the night is good and dark, that is when the train is brightest." She said as a sudden loud snoring started to come from one of the side rooms. "And if she hadn't worn herself out on training useless skills she would have joined us." Irina mumbled a comment about her apprentice Nova who was sleeping in the side room.

Irina shook her head as she headed to the back room the collect her weapons before she returned. "You are far to tense, clearly you don't trust me, know that if I wanted to kill you, then you would probably have died before you left the guild hall." She said as she walked over to Taranis and looking up to him. "Don't take that as a threat, I know you will protect her well." She whispered as she turned to head to the door. "Finish your tea before it gets cold, it helps to calm the nerves a bit. Once you are done I wish to begin the hunt." She said as she exited the room and leaned up against the wall outside the door.

As an hour past Irina took a moment to strategize waiting for Lexa to finish her tea, they needed to end this creatures existence tonight or they might lose its trail. Irina hated to leave jobs have finished when there might not even be a trace left by the time she returned to the task of completing it, and with something this dangerous she wasn't about to let the soonest opportunity slip away. "Lexa, do you suppose a creature that leaves a trail of light behind it would wander about during the night?" Irina asked thinking about what the creature might do knowing it might be tracked given its intelligence. Irina spent a while to ponder, perhaps the creature wanted to be found in order to lure prey to it rather than hunt itself. "Or do you think that it wants us to find it?" Irina asked inquiring as to what Lexa thought of the situation, the question of how intelligent this creature actually was lingered quite heavily. This night may sound like fun but the danger was impossible to ignore.

Irina looked over at Lexa as she announced that she was ready and stated her opinion on the creatures actions. "I supposed that's if it knows what exactly it's doing." Irina placed a hand on Lexa's head and smiled. "Now if only you had that kind of attention to detail when remembering someones name." She said as she turned to head at and begin tracking the beast.

Upon arriving at a suitable location on the creatures trail from its earlier rampage Irina observed the damage and the luminescent trail left behind by the creature. Taking out the holographic contraption that held the map she moved it around determining the direction the creature was traveling and began to follow the trail of destruction. "It's gone this way." Irina spoke in her serious get to work mode as she followed the trail of light it left behind. It wasn't too difficult but it was clear that it was beginning to fade away. "I hope you're ready, it's probably safe to assume that it's hiding out in the wilds and that the local fauna are still around." She said coming to the outskirts of town where the tail was quite a bit fresher and certainly showed signs that the creature was hastily putting up it's trail and tearing up the surrounding area thus indicating that it wasn't hoping to be found. "It is as you said, trying not to be found." She began by taking one step off the city streets and immediately taking off, the creature wasn't expecting to be found so it was likely that it would be caught be surprise if they showed up at the perfect moment to destroy it. The landscape was well ravaged making traversal difficult but none of that matter with Irina's level of agility as she simply ran up vertical surfaces in order to jump over tall obstacles, it was only a matter time before Irina found a freshly eaten corpse of some large creature riddled with the glowing stuff of this creature. This occurrence had Irina stop moving with haste and begin moving with caution, she had read the situation completely wrong, the creature wasn't trying to hide it was trying to be found the whole time. "We've made a mistake." Irina announced to Lexa whom she hoped had followed.

Irina scanned the perimeter of the clearing, the entire place was aglow leaving now way for them to track the beast or know which way it was coming from. Irina began to draw her sword as the beast unleashed a ear shattering howl that echoed throughout the jungles of Silver Moon island. "It comes!" Irina shouted as she raised her hand to the sky just as a beast came crashing down on the two Black Rose Mages leaving a huge dirt cloud. As the dirt cleared one could see the beast had backed off considerably but was now on the ground while Irina held up a rather poor shield of holy energy above the two mages heads, the beast had apparently crashed through 6 of the shields 7 layers quite handily. "RHO AIAS!" Irina growled as she glared at the creature in disgust. The beast didn't even look like what it should have looked like as it had been twisted into a corrupted husk of fury. "I've never looked upon a creature with such a filthy guise before, Lexa lets relieve the world of its very existence." Irina had turn from calm to anger in a split second, never had something this filthy crushed Rho Aias before and she was not about to forgive it of such a feat. She charged forth releasing the shield of its duties and aimed for the creatures head, this would have handily defeated such a creature if a second head didn't arrive to intercept it and a third head hadn't moved to assault Irina. This was however was exactly what Irina wanted to occur as she seemly vanished in a burst of fire igniting both heads and just narrowly missing the third, it was in this same instant that Irina looked down at the beast from above as she had seamlessly teleported above the creature and unleashed a barrage of three fireballs each impacting the creature in a different location, an easy target despite the spread of the fireballs. "Lexa make your assault now!" Irina signaled as the creature turned to face her as it was now quite weak from her barrage of attacks and all that was left now was for her partner to land a decisive blow.

Lexa's naturally faster reaction kicked in as she erupted into a cloud of darkness as a large beast slammed down on the spot she once stood in, reforming on a branch a good five or six meters above the heads of her attacker. She watched carefully as her sister, Irina, has performed a series of beautifully orchestrated attacks on whatever the hell that thing was, stopping her assault to tell Lexa to finish it. At that moment, Lexa grabbed the handle of Gabriel's Blade while jumping. The blade, like Lexa's entire body except her head and neck, emitted a bright golden light upon entering combat. The weakened creature looked up in time to see Lexa draw the blade, sending a golden light along with the first attack, as well as notice Lexa disappear. Using her Shadow Burst, and accompanying it with Dark Evade, Lexa appeared near the creatures feet with one hand on the ground and the blade, continuing its Angelic Strike, inside the creature. The second appearance was when she had the blade in its back, and then a third time she disappeared, and reappeared with the weapon in its belly. A line made of pure light would reveal Lexa's multitude of teleportations there-after, and a final line when she appeared standing in front the beast as it fell, several chunks falling from its body.

The full-on assault only lasted a mere two seconds, but it was more than enough to show exactly why Lexa took up a job as an assassin. She flicked her blade, and gently sheathed it while looking up to her big sister. "Nee-san, the thingy's dead..." she said with a childish tone, one that lacked any remorse for taking a life.

Irina watched as the corrupted beast crumpled to the ground from Lexa's assault and frowned, to think a creature that used to be so luminescent could turn into something so twisted. "I suppose we should clean this up before this spreads." Irina said as she landed next to the creature as her silver flames appeared wrapping around her hand. "You should head back, I'll clean this up then send in my official report." Irina gave her final orders to Lexa before placing her hand on the ground, this was something she never attempted to use before but with how long she had trained she felt she was ready to use such a spell. The ground beneath the creature began to crack as silver light began to peek through and within moments erupted into a beautiful silver pillar of flames engulfing the corrupt beast. As soon as the flames died down and vanished to once they came Irina too turned to return to the city where she would write her official report.

A letter would arrive for Elyx the following morning, inside was a report on the situation with the creature that had been plagued with corruption.

The letter would arrive for Elyx, the news recently confirmed that there were no more threats of the Chimera anymore. It seemed the task was done, and after receiving the letter, he clicked his right thumb against the plastic point of his pen and began to make a letter of his own. The ink would be scribbled onto the soft white paper as he was writing.

"Recent news told me the task was done, I am sending my most trusted assassin to check out the jungles to further investigate. Provided what you promised is still there, you will have your examination passed and I will allow you to rank up one step higher into our guild. This will probably be confirmed within a few days, but once it is done, you will be able to advance further. For now, your examination is locked, and has yet to be confirmed as a success or failure. Thank you for your time. -Elyx Reiaki"

It most certainly was a success, the body was there all right. Fen, Elyxs favorite assassin, came towards him with nothing but good news, and that concludes the examination.
