    Objective: Time to Farm

Clover town, the land in which most of the retired mages can be found here. They say it’s a peaceful place and one may find a life they’d never had that is for people such as Dubhlainn. How lucky it must be for its citizens to live and prosper here. Dubhlainn arrives in a small field just outside the town proper which seemed to be reserved for growing crops and such. The soil was loamy and parts of the fields were covered in weeds, a few rats can be seen running among these weeds and stared at the stoic man as if it were some predator who met his prey. Bugs were crawling eating whatever vegetation had grown here and by another one of his footsteps he managed to squish a few of them. He raised an eyebrow on his crushed victim, surprised of how big these insects can be. Peeking from the window of the farmhouse was the client who was expecting him to come here. As the old man opened the door, a few rats came out, scattering among the fields. Surprised, he fell down on his back and the cracking sound tells that he might have broken a bit of his back. With a shout, Dubhlainn walked faster in order to aid him, stepping and crushing a few insects on the way.

Better pray the client isn’t dead just because of that.

Dubhlainn took the liberty of aiding the old man up and fix his back for him. The old man was grateful as he scratched the back of his head. Before work began he asked Dubhlainn of the guild he belonged to since the request is posted in a neutral board, and all that he did was shrugged telling the old man that he doesn’t belong in any. He would be nervous if he found out he was from a dark guild, then his actions weren’t that of a dark mage either. Afterwards he was shown to the tool shed and was introduced to a variety of cutting tools and a few sacks in order to harvest the weeds. The tool he selected was a silver sickle; he took a few empty sacks and proceeds to the fields.

Dubhlainn is a man of few words, though it may be hard to tell what he really is thinking, his actions and intentions are all but enough for him to be acceptable. Just by holding the sickle reminded him of the life he spent in the gambling arena, working to slaughter his own opponents with a sickle, though it was a worthy deed, it be not his own reward for it goes against everything about him being a knight. Savagery was a bad memory he rather forget, luckily for him he found a new life serving under Master Harrigan of Savage Skull. The handle was a bit old but the blade was still sharp as ever, the old man was a few meters behind him, walking slowly in order to add additional details to the job. There are approximately four quadrants of the fields which he laid out, quite organized he was, Dubhlainn admired that, two of the quadrants have a bit of vegetation so Dubhlainn must be careful of what he may cut and learned the differences between the vegetable and the weed. One quadrant is infected with insects while the other has been overrun by weeds. Alas it was time for him to get to work. He spun his sickle and headed to quadrant filled with weeds.

The weeds around here were a bit large but with Dubhlainn’s skills this should pose no problem. He twirled the sickle around like he was prepared to duel. The old man chuckled as decided to sit down on his chair to be the audience to his efforts. Dubhlainn held the sickle around chest level and pointed it at the first quadrant that was filled with weeds. He inhaled and exhaled, remembering how he fought back then and pictured and also made sure that his feet were down on the ground. Then he gets to work and dashes towards the sector and with one cleave, a section of adult weeds were culled, he spun the sickle a second time, another section was cleared and he repeated such performance till the entire quadrant was filled with nothing but weeds torn from the ground. He didn’t even break a sweat but he was a irked by the fact he was being watched by the old man but he has to put up with it, after all this was for the sake of making a living. Now for the next quadrant that was infected with weeds and insects.

Insects in this part of the quadrant posed no threat but they made living target practice for his sickle, as well as the weeds, only this time he must not tear down any of the vegetation that grows here. Hence he discarded the sickle and done this the old fashion way, by rooting them out from the ground. His hands moved like a machine gun as he pulled all the weeds, not a single vegetable harmed with the exceptions of insects harassing the crops. From behind his back he draws forth a bugspray that’s powered with lacrima. Its specifically designed to help with farm work and to get rid of insects. This was done with no troubles at all. The hardest part comes next as the last two quadrants were filled with crops, so moving quickly with the chore would have a risk of actually damaging some of the crops here.

(Compensation for the Normal Monster Roll)

Before proceeding to the last two quadrants, he looked back only to see the mess he made from behind. It is embarrassing to leave the sections of the field like that. The old spectator headed inside the farmhouse which gave Dubhlainn some kind of comfort, he’s generally not used to being watched while he’s doing some field work. He grabbed the two sacks and starts to shove piles of weeds into it, making sure that they were all eliminated. He picked up the discarded sickle he dropped and used it to collect one pile and stuffs it into the sack again. One quadrant was cleared, the soil is now prepare and ready for the old farmer to plant, the other quadrant with only a few crops spaced apart was cleared of insects and a few weeds.  The sacks were full and that he must return them to the tool shed to properly dispose of later. What he has equipped right now is the sickle on one hand and the bugspray on the other, not once did he complained about this kind of work as it seemed to be quite rewarding doing service. It really makes him wonder what drove him to join Savage skull in the first place only to remember his first meeting with Lord Harrigan.

The last two remaining quadrants had weeds that have yet to mature, there were large insects earlier but it seems that they were driven off by the bugspray Dubhlainn was using but it seems that this wouldn’t be the last time they’d set foot in the fields again. The last of the weeds were once again plucked from the last two remaining quadrants. As soon as the field work is done, he dusted his hands and proceeds to enter the farmhouse. There were shelves and furniture littered around everywhere, it was obvious the old man was trying to move it by himself however he was found sleeping on the couch. Dubhlainn observed the entire house and pictured the setting of how it should be cleaned. First off he had to clean the room where the old man rests on the couch, making sure he doesn’t wake up. By the time he finished cleaning up the area where the old man was, his spouse entered the farmhouse, back from her shopping. Dubhlainn walked to her, introduced himself and bowed down in respect so that the old lady wouldn’t get all nervous around him.

Since the old famer was sleeping, the old lady told Dubhlainn about the rat problem and just when she did, rats started to run down towards the cellar, probably trying to regroup and seek refuge from the potential threat which is dubhlainn. He asked the old spouse if they have some kind of weapon that could be used against these rats; all they have were traps and a mallet. He was then briefed that the rats in the farmhouse are most likely to have nested down in the cellar. With caution, Dubhlainn proceed to descend down in order to get a closer look.

The sound of rats squeaking means they are communicating to each other, probably trying to warn each other of the intruder which is Dubhlainn. The old lady with concern asked for the man’s welfare, in response he turned to the old woman and bowed his head, assuring her that everything is under his control and that he understands their situation. “There nest is down by the cellar, I might accidentally break a few things considering the space.” A nod from the spouse is a sign of acknowledgement as he descends further down the cellar and closing the door behind him. In here were barrels and fodder as well as crates which had contained food were torn open, flour was spilled and there was no mistaken that these rats were the cause of the mess down at the cellar. He starts throwing mouse traps around as he advances but to his surprise he found a big rat.

It didn’t seem like the everyday rat rather it looked a bit stronger than the rest. Like in a wolf pack, this one seemed to be an alpha as its fellow rats were lined up, surrounding Dubhlainn.

He twirled the mallet on his hand and held the mousetrap on the other hand like it was some grenade. The extermination process began on the first squeak as all the mice jumped up at once, Dubhlainn bent his knee only to swing his hammer around 360 degrees, knocking all rats in midflight. A second wave of rats was called him making a zipline to attack his legs, this however failed as some were caught in traps Dubhlainn littered as the others were easy pickings due to the lack of numbers.

Another wave begins its assault only this time their numbers haven’t diminished, the big rat joined in which had complicated the situation. Another swing of his hammer allowed him to defend himself from the rats leaping up, throwing the last set of mouse traps he had and completely maiming the rest however the big rat disarmed him of his mallet using its tail. There was no underestimating this one but lucky for him it was the only one that remained battle ready for him.

The big rat started to unleash its poisonous breath and seemed to be exceptionally dangerous for the old folks to handle, eliminating this one will ensure the farmhouse owners some peace.

He took a piece of cloth and covered half of his face from the chin to the nose. Fortunately the rat was a bit slower than the rest and so Dubhlainn sprinted and grabbed a crate only to bash the King rat with it one more, sending it to the wall, however that doesn’t stop it as the crate isn’t the proper weapon to dealing with this creature. He extended his arms to reach for the mallet and upon grip he smashes it down on the king rat only to have missed. Quite a successful dodge on its part as it used its tail to whip Dubhlainn’s legs and it hit him like a small stone was thrown at it. The big rat jumped from crate to crate to get up high enough to strike Dubhlainn’s head as it leaped and squeaked out its battle cry.

Smart rodent but it was a bad move on its part.

Like what he did to all the rats that had attempted to leap at him before, he swung the mallet upward with such force that it would hit the ceiling and just when the big rat was falling to the ground, Dubhlainn swung his hammer again only to send it flying to the wall. Having completely been stunned he gathered whatever strength he had and crushed the mice with heavy blows from the mallet. He repeatedly crushed it till there was blood seeping out of it till he could feel nothing but crushed bones. It’s over, the rat has been slain and it would be a problem if there were more like it.

The silence down at the cellar alerted the old spouse that Dubhlainn’s task of clearing the cellar has been completed. The stoic man beaten the old lady to opening the cellar door, a little bit of blood stained Dubhlainn’s hand as one can see here, the spouse quickly grabs his hand and washes his bloodstained hand acting as if she were his parent. She really doesn’t need to but she told him that it was the least she can do for him. Cleaning the cellar now would now require a good brush and a cleaning agent, bloodstains are everywhere and some of the spoiled food in the cellar had to be taken out. Dubhlainn took most of its contents outside the farmhouse door, throwing off a few crates and some plastic barrels as well as the spoiled sacks of flour.

Luckily for him the spouse brought new cleaning agents so that he can easily scrub the cellar and wipes off whatever mess he made. He also took the liberty in cementing the holes and fumed the small passage ways which these rodents used.

Evening came as the cellar was cleaned, the crates were neatly organized and the barrels were filled, the farmer’s comments could never been anymore but happy to see that the cellar was cleaned and free from the control of the rats. The residence didn’t look this good and it was a sight for sore eyes and resembled much more of a humble home. As a token of gratitude he was given a reward for his efforts and Dubhlainn bowed down in gratitude, smiling as he exited the farmhouse. A task completed and the spoils he gained were a sack full of dead rodents and jewels.

The farmer however was curious to know what Dubhlainn would do with rodent carcasses and he simply answered this: “These rats are poisonous and must be properly disposed of, I only wish for you to have less trouble in your own home.” With that Dubhlainn exited the instance and headed straight for the city proper.
