Twas an early morning when Tane decided to wander around. She had on the comfiest outfit she could find in her bag - a pastel pink crop top and a pair of white high-waisted shorts. The first place she walked into was the Spooky Forest, a place in which she had killed four wolves. It was a horrifying memory she would reminisce about every time she came here. Dark thoughts and regrets circled her mind as she strolled mindlessly into the center of the forest. The sun’s rays were now long gone as she came to quite a thick section of the Spooky Forest, if not the thickest. It was a habit she had developed to keep alert in foreign territories (although this was her second visit to the forest, it still felt unfamiliar), and so she bent her knees slightly as she kept moving in, eyes flitting to any and all movements in her path and the surrounding. She took slow steps now, warily placing a foot after another. Finally, she reached a small staircase. Whether or not to enter and explore was a dilemma Tane spent about five minutes to solve. In the end, she chose to go in. How was she going to find out what was inside if she did not go in? Tane was greeted by a musky scent and total darkness. Well, almost complete darkness. The light from Tane’s skin showed her way around. It was a straight, narrow path. A loud thud sounded behind her, causing her to turn immediately. The door had shut itself. It was a trap? Who knew? But it was clear now that the only way out was probably on the other end of what seemed to be a tunnel of sorts. Tane’s sound receptor picked up a flickering sound, and as she neared the source, she found out that it was from a torch the tunnel wall. She didn’t need one, so she kept walking, studying the distance between each torch and the rough texture of the rock wall. Up ahead was a turn in the corridor. For no particular reason at all, Tane wondered if she was in a maze. She hoped that was not the case. She did not have time to waste here. At the next turn, a small voice could be heard. Tane listened hard. It was coming from quite a distance. “Hello?” she called out. The only response she received was the echo of her call. A few moments passed and the small voice began speaking again, a metallic, echoey voice. |
