Roughly sixty five years ago, Agol was a normal human being. Well normal as far as his fascination with ascending let him to be. A certain idea and concept he got stuck in his head since his early teenager years begun. Only when you are looking to force yourself to become something else, something more then a human could be. It was only natural one would delve into the dark arts at some point. Since it seemed to be the only forms of magic that shown theories or explanation on the subject.
This was however wrong, as Agol came to know. After all ascensions impossible for a normal human being, there was no short cut to it. No experiment or condition to become something ethereal and more. Yet still, the dark arts were filled with theories, possible methods and even failed experiments on the very idea of ascending. Unfortunately, Agol found out after he pursued this himself.
Being consumed with the very idea of becoming more then a mere human, to become an omnipotent existence. He started to study these dark arts, until he got so consumed by it to a point, those theories he read. Started to become a reality. Or at least in his eyes.
He started to put together his own experiment, convinced that his own interpretation of ascending was the true key.
Unfortunately it didn't work, the moment he had had drawn the magical pentagram on the ground in an empty and forgotten grotto. It was already to late. What he had created and put his own magical power into sucked him in. Devoured him whole till there was nothing of him left. Apparently the first aspect of his concept was that the human body had to be dissolved for the mind to ascend and form a new being. And that did work, only not the way he imagined.
A decade later, a research team entered the grotto. Foolishly stepping into the magic circle, and thus activating as well. Dissolving them, and somehow activated the second part of Agols magical contraption. Namely the construction of a new body. But what came out was something so horrid, so ominous, that upon the moment Agol crawled out of the black goo from the whatever emptiness he crawled out of. He immediately felt something was off, he wasn't transcended. He could still feel the coldness of the grotto, he could still feel the touch of the earth between his hands. So he crawled to the nearest pond, to see something of a reflection. And when he did, he screamed. Screamed in agony for what he had become.
Over time Agol learned that his new body came with one benefit, which was longevity. He didn't seemed to age, nor feel the troubles of becoming and 'old man'. In fact from the moment he changed, his body seemed to grow physically tired at all. Yet there was also another curse, slowly but certain his human aspect, or what he depicted as good or evil. Slowly fainted. The line between it become vague, and at some point. Killing become as a mundanity to him, as breathing air. Any shred of human decency vanished, even though he still seemed to speak in a more dignified manner. And the moment that eating food wasn't sufficient anymore, Agol understood he crossed a point of no return. If there ever was one.
Being now more something else then man, Agol seems to work mostly independent. Even when accompanying a mage from his guild. His actions are not according to anyones plan, and he will mostly do whatever he deems necessary at that point. Which mostly seems to be an urge to feed on the life-force of others.
Fighting others this aspect will come forth more then ever, discarding his own so called allies. Only to pursue, or not pursue someone.
