Jacob Goodnight

While passing through Magnolia Town, finishing his job with the professor, Seikatsu was encountered by the same woman he encountered pretty much every city he went. She gave him a not pointing to a job in Hargeon, which was a little bit south of Magnolia. Seikatsu didn't see why he should take the job, as it was a bounty, but he figured it would be an opportunity to test his stealth. So without even trying to ask the woman her name, or turn her into confetti (as he'd been wanting to do since he first noticed the stalker), he set off for Hargeon.

Seikatsu arrived at the town, and asked several of the townsfolk about the job. He was able to gather that this 'Jacob' was a miner, some stuff happened, and now he's gone crazy. Seikatsu decided since it was a 'Dead or Alive' request, he'd stick to the 'alive' part of it. Seikatsu got one of the local guild members to show him where the mine was while he was on the way to a job of his own. Seikatsu looked at the entrance tot he docks thinking to himself 'Slippery Surfaces, shady folks, limited room for mobility, and a crazy behemoth to take down... why do I always get into these situations?'

Seikatsu heard footsteps approaching, and he pulled the hood on his cloak. A surprised voice came from around the corner saying "Dude, you're seriously going in there!?"
"Of course I am, why shouldn't I?" Seikatsu replied, awaiting the ever-lovely 'death is certain' garbage that normally comes with his jobs.
"Well... y'know... that Goodnight dude's over there." the whelp said nervously.
"Good." Seikatsu replied in a cold, serial-killer tone.
"But..." the whimpy man started saying.
"You know these tunnels?" Seikatsu asked, interrupting the whelps argument.
"Well... yes?" the wimp said, fearing the reason why.
"Great. You're gunna come with me." Seikatsu said happily while pulling the guy by his shirt.
"Wait! What, no! I-I can't-" he began protesting while trying to pull away.
"Sure you can! I'll be the sword, and shield. You're just the torch, illuminating where I should cut." Seikatsu said reassuringly. And like that, the man had no choice but to chauffeur Seikatsu through the mine.

"So this is what that Kazakov guy felt like..." Seikatsu said under his breath, remembering the events at the Ancient Ruins. Meanwhile, somewhere in Hargeon, a grey haired wizard sneezed. Seikatsu kept walking, with his weak, pathetic, unmanly meat-shield, err 'guide' walking infront him.
"Shouldn't you be in front?" the whelp asked in a scared voice.
"No." Seikatsu replied.
"A-are you gonna make me fight?" he asked.
"No." Seikatsu replied.
"If we get attacked..." the whelp began.
"Then you're S-O-L." Seikatsu told him, with a rather cold, serious voice.
The wimpy man gave a weak laugh, thinking that Seikatsu was joking around.

At long last, a group of rather scruffy looking guys came up on Seikatsu and... whatever this worms name is. Seikatsu pulled wimpy behind him, and stepped up to the largest one with his hood covering his face.
"I'm lookin' for that behemoth Jacob Goodnight. Any of you nice fella's know where he is?" Seikatsu asked, hoping they would be more useful that the whelp.
"The miner?" one of the men said in a rough voice.
"Yeah, he's at the end of the dock. Guy's got a screw loose so no-one should go near him 'less you good for a brawl." he added.
"Can one of you escort this guy back to the entrance? I needa have a talk with Goodnight." Seikatsu said, eager for the fight.
The man who told Seikatsu the whereabouts of Jacob offered to take the whelp back, and the rest of the sailors let Seikatsu pass.

Seikatsu found Jacob at the end of the docks, as the sailor had told him. His description was far less fearsome than he was. Six and a half feet tall, three-hundred fifty pounds of crazy... Seikatsu approached the monsterous man, and tried to adress him calmly.
"Jacob, you okay?" he asked, as if adressing a fellow villager.
"hmmm?" Jacob responded.
"I hear you been hackin' people up." Seikatsu said.
"What of it?" Jacob replied, his voice even sounded monsterous.
"You're causing trouble for a lot of good folk. Guard wants you taken in. It's a D-O-A poster." Seikatsu informed him.
"Heh! And you're gonna make that happen?" The monster replied.
"I'd rather not have to." Seikatsu said, and rested his hand on the sword concealed under his cloak.

Jacob chuckled, and scoffed at Seikatsu thinking that the cloak was a ruse to make him look scary. Seikatsu had planned to just pop in, knock him out, and drag Jacob in; but that can't be done on the docks. Not many shadows for Seikatsu to stick to, and the docks are really creaky, so even if he could hide Jacob would hear Seikatsu coming. Jacob took a fighting stance, one hand holding a chain, the other holding a hook. Seikatsu prepared to fight him, as much as he'd rather not. The two spent several minutes staring each other down, waiting for his opponent to move. But neither made the first attack.

"You say you'd rather not fight right?" Jacob asked calmly.
"Yes. Are you willing to go with the civil route?" Seikatsu replied.
Jacob relaxed his stance, and sat the chain and hook on the floor. He sat down, and leaned his back against one of the wooden posts.
"They're all dead." He said.
"Who?" Seikatsu asked while he stood straight, releasing his hands from his sword's grip.
"My friends from the mine." Jacob replied.
"There was a cave in, and they all died. With the mine broken, they shut her down and with no money, my family disowned me." Jacob added.
Seikatsu felt sorry for him, since he himself knew the feeling of being outcast.

It took Seikatsu a moment to gather the gal to get closer, but eventually he stepped up to Jacob, and sat next to him.
"When I was a kid, I was the weakest of my people. No one wanted to be my friend, so I know how you feel. Being ostracized by others." Seikatsu said with a sullen tone fo voice.
"The first friend I ever had, was some girl that I tried to save from wild dogs... I got the crap chewed outta me, and she saved my life." he added.
"You still talk to her?" Jacob asked in his monstrous voice.
"I killed her, along with my family, and the rest of my people" Seikatsu admitted.
Jacob looked at Seikatsu as though he were a monster. Goodnight was able to understand random people, but someone you were friends with? His family? Only a monster would just... throw it away.
"I spent every day after that paying for what I've done. Trying to find one true reason to keep on living, and always waiting for the moment where life will finally strike me dead." Seikatsu said, hoping Jacob would stop his rampage. Jacob was quiet as he thought about what it would be like for him, if he were in Seikatsu's shoes.

"Take me in." Jacob said to Seikatsu as he stood up, leaving his chain and hook on the dock.
"Huh?" Seikatsu asked, completely confused.
"I don't want it to get that far for me. So please take me in, and let me serve my time. After which, I want to repay you for stopping me, before I ended up like you." Jacob said solemnly.
Seikatsu did as Jacob requested, and walked the gargantuan man to the prison. The guards were ready with chains, but Seikatsu assured them it wasn't necessary, and informed them Jacob Goodnight was here of his own free will.
Jacob and Seikatsu shook hands through the cell bars, and Seikatsu left Goodnight to serve his time in prison. Under the hood, Seikatsu was hiding the fact that he was crying, since he'd never talked to anyone about his problem. At least, not in that fashion.

Seikatsu felt thankful that the white haired wench gave him that job leaflet. He still wanted to beat her to a pulp for stalkin him 24/7, but he was able to get some of his pain out as a result of her... impulse to stalk people. Seikatsu was able to have a good night's rest for the first time in several years, all thanks to some crazy, giant, murderous... person. Oh, and wimpy ended up joining the sailors. He found out that he sucked at working the rigging, was afraid of heights, terrible at cooking, but man was he good at swabbing the decks!
