New Slayer types - Need your opinions

Hey there guys and gals and those who either aren't decided or just plain don't know or are both. We don't discriminate.

Anyway....

After discussions with the staff we have decided that we are going to replace the storm slayer position. It has been deemed overpowered due to essentially combining three elements.


However, as this is a community site we felt that before we make any decision as to what we are going to change it to that we'd get some feedback from you the members.

The ideas we have so far are as follows:

Ink
Oil
Paper
Crystal
Sound
Music
Cosmic
Plant
Wood
Steam


However, these aren't all the possible ideas so if you think you have some good ideas for a new slayer position then let us know. Or just let us know which of these you like best.

To make things easier do it in a system similar to the following

How about a clay slayer?

[2] Steam ( Well I was originally smoke.. so.. )

[L] Sound / Music ( Considering you could literally EAT SOUND. I can see this ending up really broken.. )

Blood Dragon Slayer, because Vampires.

Or Bone. Or Life. Or Death (now that's going to be a tricky one. Eat corpses and spew decay?).

I think if you want a Dragon Slayer who devours elementless magic and uses raw mana you'd be better off calling it Arcane Dragon.

Void Dragon Slayer sounds more like the kind of magic which would just obliterate everything it touches.

[2] - Sound (I see how it could be overpowered, but I mean, we have light slayers who could theoretically be eating as long as the sun's up, and we balanced that)
[3] - Steam

[L] - Crystal (it really just sounds like a shinier version of earth slayer, and although I get the difference, I imagine earth could still eat crystal or vice versa, we don't need something like this)

I like Fill's ideas too, especially bone slayer, and I also am into Mathur's positions. As far as my own idea, I've pondered Lava or Volcano slayers, but they might have the same issues as Crystal Slayers.

Could also try Gravity, although you'd probably have to implement a lot of basic rules to make that one work ('you can't fly by eating the gravity holding you down').

Seriously, new slayer types? Can someone explain to me why you want this when you can just have the magic.... without it being slayer magic? And what even... Oil Slayer? Ink... and Paper? No way José, those make very little sense to me as is.

So yeah, someone mind explaining the entire concept?

Why not just... remove the storm slayer and let that be it. No need for another slayer type. I trust that the community can do without a plastic dragon and his pupil/foster child.

Can we at least consider the Bone Slayer? I thought that one was pretty cool.

EDIT: Eating corpses to become stronger sounds like a Slayer thing.

The problem, in my opinion, is that things like that stray too far from the Dragon Slayer "meta", as it were, that if you have a Bone Slayer, you could have a slayer for all sorts of things, because subsequently dragons for just about EVERYTHING would exist, which would proceed to take away from the uniqueness and singularity of dragons (not that they currently are something special with their existence being thrown around like toilet paper), but do we really have to steer in the direction that there's a slayer for everything? I mean, jokes aside, think about it. If you add some ink/oil/paper/gravity/cosmos slayer, why not add a pumpkin/vine/smoke/steam dragon slayer to go along with it.

In the respect of things you guys are trying to make slayer magic, EVERYTHING could ultimately be slayer magic. I could just pick any magic, invent a dragon to it, and boom, there I have my slayer magic.

Storm was, in my opinion, a bad idea anyway and I'm glad it's gone. Not for "overpowered" reasons, but more because it was just... an uncreative and uninspired idea to me. A... storm dragon? We got wind, sir. No need to have another sky-bound wyvern that screws with the uniqueness of the dragon that controls the winds. So let's not repeat the entire bad background/history/plot/narration for another awkward dragon/god/demon that doesn't really fit in the slayer "meta" of the basic elements just about all fantasy has implemented.

Skeletal dragons are not that uncommon an idea though. It's basically something created by master Necromancers when they're fed up with the band of heroes getting in their way

And Bone Slayer would mostly mean that you take the idea of a corpse eater and incorporate it with a school of magic which revolves around eating stuff and using that same element to fight.

I agree that some ideas are ridiculous, but at least there would be precedent for Bone Slayer, since it isn't like eating corpses is that otherworldly an idea.

Alright, this will sound extremely rude, and that's probably because it is. But it was my first reaction to your idea. It sounds like you just pulled it from the next best fantasy franchise you could find.

The thing is, just like for a bone dragon, a history and reason for ANY dragon can be found. Just because the reasoning would be, that ANY dragon can potentially exist. (there was a "Jade" dragon in the canon.... remember?) And out of the same reasoning, you could create a background for ANY dragon. The dragon exists, because why-the-hell-not, and its backstory is *copy paste some fantasy lore*.

Honestly, I see no need for it. That is why I oppose the idea. It's not *necessary* to make the universe feel more immersive, it's not *necessary* to make dragon slayer more special (imo, having another squatted in dragon element would even take away from slayer uniqueness, but that's debatable), it's not *necessary* to make Fairy Tail feel like Fairy Tail.

People have been asking for MORE slayer content since the dawn of the first Fairy Tail roleplay site. It's a cool concept, I agree. Dunno who wouldn't, but overuse it, overstretch it, overextend its necessary boundaries and it becomes a tumor that doesn't deal any harm, but is just really annoying to have and incredibly ugly to watch.

So I oblige, don't add another slayer. We have enough as is.

Actually I thought of Bone Slayer after pretty much this train of thought went through my head

I suppose it's somewhat unoriginal, but I think it's fun enough an idea that I'll support the idea of Bone Slayer until it's completely rejected.

The following is my opinion, and if it offends you, I apologize. I am in no way, shape, or form trying to get you or humiliate you, I just want my opinion heard ( and what better place to do it? ) 

Personally, my opinion on having a NEW slayer would be.. well.. Pointless. The entire reason someone ( me for example~ ) wants a slayer position is because there would be only two people on the site who's magic of that type you couldn't eat like it's nothing. Yes, it would be badass for someone to be a bone slayer. The name is even cool. But, as Lyserg had stated earlier, if we were to "overuse it, overstretch it, overextend its necessary boundaries", it would become pointless.

Overall, I would just be happy with the slayer positions we have now. Yes, it is true that storm doesn't NEED to be replaced, but, as I said, the slayer slots are limited as is. Why not add something unique and cool rather than trashing a slot that has worked well? As stated by other people ( not sure who exactly ) but some of the ideas of Oil and Paper seemed a bit... ridiculous. In my personal opinion, if some guy ran up to me shouting "Alright you Venom Demon Slayer!! I'm the Paper God Slayer and I'll be the god of this world!! [Insert more Light Yagami quotes]" I would not take it seriously. The D-Rank spells would consist of paper cuts. That's nowhere as cool as some of the other ones.

Taking a look at the suggestion of Void Slayer ( or Arcane Slayer, whatever floats your boat ), I think that would mean two things. It would mean the end of choosing magics with no elements to avoid slayers being able to get'cha ( you know who you are ) and it would also stop Slayers being categorized under set elemental regions. I just think the idea sounds awesome, but I believe the user should be limited to a focus ( Example -- Hell Demon Slayer ), so they aren't free to do magics that relate nothing to your ordinary slayer magic. 

There is a slight problem with the idea of a Void Slayer though. Where can they eat their element? It's not like you can literally buy magic in a bottle.. You'd have to take someone's magic item and stuff it in your face... Aside from the positives up there, this would be the negatives. This could become.. very broken. All it would take is a power-hungry guy who got his hands on the latest slayer, and boom, it's ruined for everyone.

So yeah, this is my say on the entire matter ( or.. whatever I was able to say without sounding like a jerk ). So yeah.. I'm bad at exits so i'm just going to stop talking.

Alright, here's the main idea why I vehemently oppose this.

This board has, since quite a while now incessantly invested into the slayer meta. To such an annoying amount, that I, for my part, have decided to NEVER ever even do so much as deal with anything remotely slayer-like. It's become annoying that there are so many slayers, everybody has a different idea of what it is and what it should do, and what the storyline should be. All "slayers" always want to be "That one slayer with that is special with his element" and as a part of that, it's become a kind of 2much4me meta with so many uncreative responses to basic ideas that I stopped caring about it as a whole.

Now, here's a question. Do NONE of you guys think that it's time to invest into something new? Slayer's been done and redone a gajillion times now. Shouldn't it be over? Shouldn't we, as a community, aspire to at least produce the minimum amount of creativity necessary to bring something NEW to the board instead of riding around on the slayer schtick until really EVERY member has rotated through the positions and EVERYBODY knows what it's like to be a slayer? C'mon people, I know we can do better. I know we deserve better than slayer. We've done it. It's there, why not take the slayers you have and try to create something new. A new mechanic. This site has spent so much time and effort into making slayer worthwhile, why STILL try to change something? Why not just something new. There are a multitude of magical mechanics that can be turned into something as great as, if not even BETTER than slayer magic.

Just please, it's become so uncreative talking about slayer. The mere mentioning of something slayer-related already inclines opinions and viewpoints that have been rehashed a thousand times over. Can we really think of nothing new? Do we really have to invest into something we have invested so many times in the past; AGAIN?

I, for one, oppose the idea of a new slayer. Concentrate your creative forces onto something that we deserve. Something new, something cool. Something that's not "good 'ol dragons, gods and demons that do all the slaying". I know we can do this.

Rainbow DS and as it ranks up it can Add more colors.

As one of the resident storm slayers, one, why the hell was I not informed off this? And two, I totally vote wood or plant.

Favorite: Cosmic Slayer (Because I was already going to do this when I hit Mythical)
2nd Favorite: Plant
Least Favorite: Oil and Paper equally

However I also like the concept of Bone Slayer a lot as well. There is a sense of Darkness that comes with it. However I feel that you all are missing 2 elements in this entire list. Wheres pure Holy and Unholy Slayers?

As a Storm Slayer, I just hope that the replacements are well thought of and those that are losing the storm slayer (aside from me, I have plans) will be allowed first choices in the next batch of slayer and those with Lacrimas will be allowed to switch the elements. As long as you do those 2 things then I am okay with replacing my magic.

maybe i agree with lyse we dont realy need anymore slayer types or it gona become a bit silly
