Jacob Goodnight.... Romulus went over the man's name over and over on the boat ride into Hargeon Town. This was Romulus' first job for Black Rose and he had to do this right. He debated whether or not he would kill the man or not. Either way was money, but they brought different kinds of fame with them. Romulus was never very interested in monetary gain, but he had to admit that money helped with a lot of things. When his boat pulled into the port of Hargeon, he quickly embarked towards the city's guard house to discuss his job.

After he was done speaking with the guard captain of the town he set off to a bar on the lower side of town. He went through every alley on the way to the bar so he would look as dirty and weak as possible. The alleyways served the secondary purpose of giving him a better knowledge of the low towns layout. Once he had arrived at the bar, he sat down and struck a conversation up with the bar tender. He quietly sat there, soaking in everything the older man was saying to him, and sipping his drink. He was not extremely enthralled by what the main was saying to him until he brought up the murders around the part of town the bar was in. Apparently the barkeep was related to the elusive Mister Goodnight. Romulus inquired into the murderer's past to try to get more information to use.

Romulus continued to talk to the bar keeper, talking about nothing in particular. Romulus looked over his shoulder and saw that it was dark outside at this point. He ordered one last drink to calm him before his oncoming fight. He didn't want to go berserk in the middle of a city, god knows how many lives he would end up taking if he did. And the local wizard guild would also dispatch at least a C-Rank mage to put him down. He finished his drink and kindly excused himself from the bar. Now he was off to his meeting with a butcher about some meat.

Romulus wandered idly through the low side of town, his black coat tails moving silently behind him, looking around for any person that was out of place. His low-light vision was certainly coming in hand now. He saw this world in all the color a normal person would see in the noon day sun. So far: Nothing. No one had screamed bloody murder. No rattling of Jacob's chain. Not even the yelping of a stray dog. He continued his walk for about another half hour before he sat down at the entrance way to a thin alleyway. At that exact moment, as he let out a long say, he heard it.

Romulus heard a deep guteral laugh, followed by a deep voice with a heavy Scottish accent behind him. The new voice said to him, "Und here I thought I smelled a wee little puppy for me first kill tonight. Looks like I was pretty close, but you there boy, you won't taste narry as good." Romulus quickly turned around and sprung to his feet. There standing before him was an extremely large man. This stranger couldn't have been anyone else besides Jacob Goodnight. "Well Mister Goodnight, I have some news for you. First, I must tell you that you are hereby under arrest. Second, you may have just called me a puppy, but you just made my night," Romulus said back excitedly. He slammed his fists together and released his magic completely. Without a restraint, his hair whipped around for a short bit of time, finally settling in an extremely disheveled appearance.

Romulus went into his defensive stance and allowed the large man to charge at him with what appeared to be a large meat cleaver. When Jacob got about 4 feet away, Romulus screamed out, "Howl of the Wolf," and a magic circle appeared in front of his maw. The very next second a twisting tunnel of wind shot from the circle. The wind was a dull silver color as it was laced with dark energy. The attack made contact in no time, sending the attacker flying quickly backwards into the back wall of the alley. A good twenty feet away.

After that blow, Romulus saw no movement from his would have been assailant. Come on, you can take more than that! I thought you were a killer! Give me your all Jacob Goodnight," Romulus shouted down the dank hall of stone. There was no way a man of that size could be taken down with so little force. It was a trick, it had to have been. No matter though. The guard were on their way. The name of the spell he used was what he had set up as his signal to the guards. Once he said that name, a small band of ten officers would converge on his location as quickly as possible. Because he knew he had a minute or two, Romulus began to walk towards his downed opponent to check how much money he was worth.

When Romulus arrived at the body he found his opponents pelvis broken, as he had hit the wall with only that part of his body. His opponent could no longer stand. A sight like this would make a normal mage, a LEGAL mage, happy as a lark. But Romulus was no legal mage, and he certainly was no lark. He grew angry at the sight before him. His toy was broken before he could even play with it! His hair flaired into more disheveled spikes as his power increased. "Pounce of the Wolf!" he screamed as he slammed his feet, surrounded by a thick cloud of dark magic, into Jacob's chest. His right foot above his heart, and his left foot over the analogous position on the other side. Romulus heard the snapping of Jacob's ribs and smiled widely. There was no doubt he punctured at least one of his opponent's lungs. And his rib bones were mere inches from his heart. This gave Romulus a wonderful idea.

Romulus walked towards the entrance of the alley as he heard the loud footsteps of the officers. God could they be any more garrish? he thought to himself as he went to meet them. When they saw him, he ushered them down the alley. There, these young guards saw a sight Romulus assumed they had never seen before: A live man laying in a pool of his own blood, unable to move, with bloody foam coming from his mouth with every rahhed, painful breathe he took. Romulus should have known that a nonmage couldn't stand up to what a mage could, but his mark was still alive. For now at least."He is alive... Technically. So I guess you earned your 2000 jewels," the highest ranking of the guards said to Romulus as he handed him a bag which was filled, presumably, with the aforementioned 2000 jewel payment. Romulus calmed himself and took the bag from the guard, then spoke a simple sentence to the guards, "Thank you officers. Hope to see you real soon."

About 5 minutes later the guard troops that were escorting Jacob Goodnight were attacked. The assailant was dresses in an all black hooded cloak with the hood covering enough of his face that the guards could not see his face in the darkness. None of the guards were injured, or even attacked outside of two being shoved out of the way of the attacker. The only person injured was Jacob. The assassin punched Jacob one time on the left side of his chest. Jacob screamed in agony and became dead weight in the arms of the guards that were carrying him. The assassin the quickly tore of from the scene at an extremely quick pace. The guards were not upset by this killing, as it was simply a man that was damn near dead, that had a death sentence coming anyway. The only thing odd was that the assassin had a strange pressure around him. That is common in the magical world. But this pressure did not push outwards like most. It pushes upwards. The guards didn't think much of the oddity though. That would have made too much paper work for them and a whole new investigation. The simply young men would never know that the man they just gave 2000 jewels for giving them a live criminal, just made sure his job was truly and permanently completed.
