Chicken Wrangler

Hanging out at the guild hall on her day off, Lexa decided to go take a look at the job notice board. On it was a pretty lame job, one that almost no one would want to do where some farmer busted up the cage for one of his chickens. The guy wanted some wizard to go an wrangle the stupid thing for a small shot of some jewel. Knowing no one in the guild would want to do such a boring job, Lexa decided to go ahead and knock it out. It's not that Lexa needed any cash, she just didn't want the others to be bothered with something that she could take care of herself. "Taranis we got a small job, just something to blow off a bit of time." Lexa said to her monstrous companion. Taranis walked over and cracked his knuckles, ready to take on whatever sort of job they were about to take on. With that gesture, Lexa placed her hand on Taranis's stomach and became one with the light. Not even a second later, Lexa and Taranis were at the front door to the old farmer's cottage.

Lexa found the old man walking around the perimeter of his small home and approached him with Taranis standing at her back. The man slowly turned around, jumping at the sight of Taranis while letting out a strange sound. "Wh-what in the name of all that's sacred is that!?" the old man said. "That's the one who's gonna help you find your lost poultry you old asshole, so be respectful!" Lexa immediately snapped on the man for being so quick to judge her friend. "Hey now young lady, there's no need to get angry..." the old man said. "If someone looked at your only friend and said what you said, you'd be pretty fucking mad too!" Lexa said with her eyes glowing bright gold. Taranis placed his hand on Lexa's shoulder "Lexa. Job." he said reminding her that they're here for a reason. "Sorry Taranis..." Lexa said in a calmer, gentler voice. "Whatever, look old man. I charge half before, and half when the job's done." Lexa said bluntly. "How about none now an-" Lexa cut him off saying "Or I could kill the damn things, eat them, bring you the bones, kill you, and still take your money." with an extremely angry voice. With that said, the old man dropped a sack of jewel in Lexa's hand begrudgingly and walked off muttering to himself

Lexa walked away from the old man, feeling more like beheading him and hanging his corpse on a flaming pillar than actually finding his lost bird. From the job notice, it says that the bird is 'one hundred percent, without a doubt, unable to be missed...' but Lexa wondered how different a chicken could look that would make it THAT noticeable when set next to another chicken. That is... until it poked its head out from the bushes surrounding the small farm. Lexa was looking at it from across the farm, thinking 'It looks like a chicken... but... it's taller than I am... Nope. Not a chicken' All of a sudden the old man hollered "That's my birdey! Go on wizard lady, you get your big friend and hog-tie 'em! Just don't hurt him!" from the window of the house. "Fun." Taranis said sarcastically. "Yeah... fun. Let's do this bud." Lexa said nervously, not exactly sure how to wrangle something a foot taller than her without hurting it.

Taranis began moving around the large bird, keeping his distance as he tried to get behind it. Lexa maintained her position in front it at the same distance. She was controlling the magic circuits on her body to create random flickers that would keep the bird's attention on her at all times, and keep it off of Taranis. The bird was fairly smart, as it was using one eye to focus on Lexa, and the other to focus on the skull-faced man working his way to the back. The bird immediately charged forwards, dashing past Lexa and moving in the direction of the farm. However, when the bird was near the bird cage, it turned and began heading down the road leading to town. Lexa turned into a ray of light, only being able to because she was yet to engage the bird in combat. She appeared in front the bird, so close that it only had enough time to stop without thinking to turn. As the bird's eyes got close to her face, going in for a peck attack, Lexa lit up all her circuits as bright as possible creating a flash. The bird was blinded, and slightly dizzy. It laid down on the floor and closed its eyes tight as Lexa kneeled down and began patting it gently, saying "It's okay... I'm your friend." with a soothing tone.

Taranis jogged over to Lexa from behind the small farm-house and was surprised that the bird was being so calm. "I might have blinded him for a bit, but he'll be just fine once his eye re-adjust to the light." Lexa said calmly. Taranis went to the farmer's house to get the wheelbarrow he saw leaning against the wall next to the re-built chicken coup. When Taranis brought the wheelbarrow to Lexa, the two of them, with Taranis doing most the work, lifted the large chicken into the wheelbarrow and they carted it off. By 'they' it was more like Lexa rode in the wheelbarrow and played her leaf whistle, while Taranis pushed the thing. It wasn't far to the coup, and the chicken began clucking and looking around confused. The chicken put its head over Lexa's and she gave it a gentle pet on the head. Upon arriving to the coup, Taranis stood on one side and used his hand to gently nudge the chicken in. With Lexa standing on the other side, and the chicken not wanting to be flashed again, the chicken jumped out the barrow and went to the coup. The farmer was so amazed he apologized for insulting Taranis, and gave Lexa the rest of her pay.
