Ean gazed off into the sunrise with the usual blank expression on his face that belied his true emotions. He was tired, incredibly tired. But this was the best time of day to go to the fish market and get something to eat. Sola was wrapped around his neck, more visibly drowsy and letting herself nod off from time to time, as Ean made his way around the docks with the short walk from his small ocean side shack to the market place.
It was fairly empty at this time of day and most of the better fish from early morning in by now, but nobody was really awake except the people who wanted the best fish. Only the vendors and maybe five other people were there. At least that’s how many people Ean saw; all of whom probably didn’t even notice him and saw four other people. Ean immediately went to the crustacean vendors to look at the shrimps available. It was easy to cook and typically, in order to boost sales and get an edge against market places in other parts of Fiore, such as Magnolia, the Hargeon shrimp vendors tended to already have their shrimp deveined, so Ean could immediately put them on the grill.
After surprising the vendor for the umpteenth time he had visited and buying a pound of shrimp, Ean went on to browse through the rest of the fish vendors. He had gotten some ice from Kihia and had a container to keep any fish on ice so it wouldn’t go bad. He knew that any really good fish would need to be eaten right away or its quality would go down. He grew up a fisherman’s son, so he knew how to cook fish since it was a regular thing for him. Fish in the morning and fish at night for dinner. He didn’t mind it though, he still continued to eat fish regularly because it was affordable and the best thing Hargeon had to offer. The only other thing he bought regularly was chicken in terms of protein.
By the end of the morning, Ean had purchased a pound of shrimp, 3 flounders, two salmon, and had gotten a catfish for a bargain. It was a fantastic haul for Ean who typically wasn’t the best at getting deals but most of the fisherman knew him so he never got ripped off. He had gotten the catfish from someone outside of Hargeon and honestly didn’t know how much he was really offering it for so Ean had bought it for a fraction of what he typically got it for. Catfish wasn’t native to Hargeon so the price on one would be higher than the other fish.
As Ean walked out of the market and started heading back home he felt his body bump into something. When he looked down he saw a vaguely familiar face of a small girl. “Ah sorry about that,” Ean said as he put his bags down to offer the girl help up, shortly thereafter realizing she was the new girl who joined the guild just a few days ago. Sola, on the other hand, noticed the girl immediately as the girl who just joined the guild and jumped up on her and wrapped around her neck, giving her a peck on the cheek again and giving a happy little squeak.
