A Matter of Bells

Kiba had heard that one of the new mages in the guild had grown in power, and decided to pay him a visit. He wanted to test the mage himself, he wanted to see the quality of power that he possessed. Kiba headed down to the main hall and called out his name. "Aaron Artamo!" he called out, he had never met this mage so this was the best he could do. Kiba had a good test in mind and hopefully it would be mildly fun, for both of them.

Aaron had been reading in his room when he heard someone call out his name from the hall, which caused him to sigh and put his book down after marking his place. Since it didn't sound like Venir, and he didn't really know anyone else at the guild, that meant this person was high enough up the ladder of power to have some kind of information on him if he already knew his name, which meant he would probably be better off not making the person wait. With that thought Aaron hauled himself off of his bed and grabbed Bane of Reality from the wall and slid it into the holster on his back after making a quick check that the wrappings were secure.

All of this took only a moment, and as soon as he was done he walked out of his room and turned to find the source of the voice. What he saw confirmed his suspicions, while he didn't know this person by name, he recognized him as one of the aces of the guild. I'm sorry to make you wait, I'll come see you in just a second. Aaron turned back to his door and made sure that it had shut completely before leaving a trace of his magic on the doorknob, not enough to be noticeable, but enough that he would know if someone were to try and get into his room. It wasn't really necessary, but it had become habit. With that done he turned again and walked up to the ace. How may I be of assistance mr. ...? Aaron left the silence hanging in the air like the question it was, he didn't want to be rude, but he did need to find out this mans name.

"no need for the Mr, just call me Kiba." Kiba was amused that this man didn't know who he was. "I will be testing you skills. meet me by the training tower when your ready." kiba turned around and left. He pulled a small bell from his pocket, his test was simple really but it would be fun regardless. Kiba smiled and walked out to the area next to the Training Tower. He would wait there till the other man showed.

Aaron frowned as Kiba walked off. The least the man could have done was explain why he was testing his skills. Aaron would admit that it was most likely that this was the exam he had requested, but he had made the request only yesterday, and as far as he was aware it hadn't even been looked at yet. In fact he had checked it right before he had gone to his room, though it was possible that Kiba had simply caught someone talking about it, after all Aaron hadn't been trying to hide that he wanted to take an exam, but he hadn't thought that it was an interesting enough topic to make it into any kind of gossip. Oh well, better not to look a gift horse in the mouth, it doesn't matter why he's testing me, just that he is testing me.

Kiba had told him to meet him when he was ready, but Aaron had the feeling that Kiba was expecting a prompt arrival, so he didn't wait around, but rather made his way to the training tower, following the path that Kiba had gone down a moment before. In just a few moments Aaron found himself outside of the tower and in front of Kiba. Alright then Kiba, how is this going to work?

Kiba heard the man coming before he arrived, Kiba stood up and waited. As Kiba expected there was the man. Kiba pulled a small bell from his belt. "See this... You have to take this without magic. You may us any means other then magic." Kiba tied it to his belt. "anytime your ready." Kiba stood still waiting for the man to act.

Aaron raised his eyebrow at Kiba. The task was to take the bell without magic? Seemed like an odd challenge to make to a mage, but then again Aaron tended to use his physical abilities when he could anyway, saving his magical energy for when it was absolutely necessary. There was one thing that Aaron needed to know however, and that was if he could use his weapon. He knew that the weapon itself was magical and had a couple of passive abilities that might be helpful, but he also knew that Kiba might see this as using magic, even if he didn't actually use the overt magics of the scythe.

I have one question before we get started, does your ban on magic extend to my weapon? Not in the use of any spells it adds to my arsenal, but in the use of as a weapon. Aaron paused in thought for a moment. While he didn't want to let to much information slip, he should probably mention that it had passive skills so that he wouldn't find out that he failed what he assumed was a test because of a technicality. I guess I should also mention that the weapon does have a few passive abilities out of my control, but they aren't really spells.

Kiba shrugged at the mention of passives. "I could care less about passives, as long as you don't us a spell your fine." Kiba Tied the bell to his Hand and dropped into a fighting stance, Summoning his gauntlets as he did. "Just be warned if you break that rule, i will force the issue and if you run out of time after i force the issue... you fail." Kiba offered a smile. Kiba was hoping this kid offered him a decent fight, he didn't expect much of him as he was new to everything. but looks can be deciving as Kiba well knew.

Well that was one worry removed, and several plans now validated. Aaron removed and unwrapped Bane of Reality before stabbing the base into the ground and began to remove his coat as he ran through several courses of action in his mind. As soon as his coat was off however he leaped into action, throwing his coat directly at Kiba, aiming for his torso rather than his head in an attempt to bind him for a few seconds. The instant that the coat left his hand Aaron grabbed his weapon and leaped to his right and spun his scythe, using the bladed end as a shovel to scoop up the rocky mountain soil and flinging it to the left (kiba's right) of Kiba's head. Aaron hoped that if he dodged the opposite direction of his leap to avoid the coat he would be caught by the soil and blinded.

Aaron wasn't quite done though. He spun his weapon back upright and gripped it strongly before swinging the back of the blade toward where Kiba's shins would likely be if he did dodge towards him instead of the soil.

Kiba smiled at the mans ruse, Kiba found most people choose the difficult route. Kiba didn't wait for the other attacks to follow the jacket, He teleported behind the man, summoning his gauntlets and boots as he did, and struck at his exposed back. It was not a hard blow but would have enough force to throw him forward.  "Remember that not all fights are fair, Sometimes your outnumbered, sometimes your opponent in more powerful then you." Kiba waited for the man again regardless of if his blow had hit or not.

Aaron wasn't surprised by Kiba's use of magic. He hadn't missed the fact that Kiba had never placed any limitations on his use of magic, but he was also aware that two could play at this game. Kiba had told him that he didn't care about passive magic, and even if the question this statement had been prompted by was about his weapon, he had made no stipulations about passive abilities of Aaron's magic either. However, he would wait before he used that option, he wanted to use it at the best possible moment. Instead he would continue to fight physically for the time being.

While Aaron had expected magic use on Kiba's part he had not known what form that magic would take, so he was unable to avoid the kick, but he was able to take advantage of it. Aaron used the momentum that the kick gave him, stuck the butt of his weapon into the ground as a fulcrum, and vaulted forwards, kicking out his legs at Kiba's chest as he came up.

Kiba simply back stepped the attack, watching it miss completely. Kiba cracked his neck as he did. he wondered what to do next and decided to attack in a real fashion now. Kiba waded in with two punched followed by a kick. He would take any hit the man could throw as they would be minor damage at best.

As Aaron fell back to his feet he was unable to dodge the punches, both of which hit hard enough that he could tell that he would have bruises after all was said and done, but he was able to twist away from the final kick, as he turned to face Kiba he jumped back a few feet, putting distance between him and his opponent. Aaron was aware that this was very possibly a futile maneuver as Kiba had already shown he could teleport, but it was comforting all the same.

Aaron eyed his opponent warily, this man was obviously much more skilled than he was, and those armaments weren't just for show, but somehow he would have to get that bell, which also meant that he would have to remove those gauntlets somehow as the bell was now inside one. The frontal approach wasn't working either, so that meant that Aaron had to try and out think Kiba, an unlikely feat considering the vast differences in their amounts of experience, but then again, Kiba wouldn't set an un-passable test, so there had to be some way to succeed. Aaron gripped his weapon and settled back into a fighting stance, but this time he would wait for Kiba instead of striking first.
