”Soo.. We need to find a book? In here?” Kukki and Bit curiously stared at the library before themselves. The bluenette had her head tilted to the side while her fox companion was just sitting patiently beside her. It seemed easy enough, just go in, find the said book, check it out and leave before giving it to the old woman who they had met earlier. “Yep. Apperently the book was called uhm.. Uhh..”
Kukki glanced down toward Bit who was lightly pawing at her muzzle, confusion and frustration painting her expression. “It was called ’Cat Eye Ring.’ I forget who it’s by though,” The copper colored fox snapped her head up in obvious shock at the bluenette’s ability to actually remember something important. “What?” Kukki glanced back down at Bit, approaching the building clearly labeled ‘Library’ above the doors. Though, instead of responding to her question, Bit only sighed, shook her head and followed after Kukki.
After pushing open the doors to the library, her eyes widened in shock. Though she might ove books and enjoy reading them, she’s never actually been in such a.. Rustic looking library and it’s not that she didn’t enjoy the inside of the building, but in fact, she adored it. “Bit..! It looks so awesome..!” The fox only rolled her eyes in amusement at her friends excitement.

Slowly approaching the counter where an old woman sat, or well stood, glasses slowly sliding down her nose before she quickly pushed them back up and flipped the page of the book she was currently reading. The woman seemed to be so engrossed in the novel, that she hadn’t even noticed the pair approaching the large, half circle shaped desk. “Uhh, excuse me!” Kukki’s voice awkwardly broke the silence, making the graying woman snap her head up in surprise.
“Oh! Pardon me, oh dear. How may I help you?” The bluenette grinned goofily at the woman who was obviously flustered and possibly embarrassed by the fact that she hadn’t noticed them earlier. “We were wondering if you had the book, ‘Cat Eye Ring’ by Maré Monse?” Surprisingly, the authors name seemed to fly off her own tongue, not only startling her companion and herself, but the librarian as well though most likely for a different reason. “Perhaps, did you just mention the novel ‘Cat Eye Ring’?” Kukki nodded in confirmation, only to have the woman shake her head with a heavy sigh. “I apologize. But that book disappeared about a year ago."

The bluenette’s eyes widened in surprise, resting both palms on the desk as she leaned forward - “Are you serious? Do you have any idea where it might be?!” Miss. Librarian, as Kukki now called her, only shook her chestnut colored hair in confirmation to the humanoid and fox’s major disappointment. “Though. It’s rumored the book is lost in this sea of novels,” She waved her hand to the left, bringing Kukki’s attention to books piled on top of books in shelves, some novels even leaning precariously towards falling to the ground where several others lay. It shocked her to say the least, when they had walked in, sure, some shelves looked messy, but not to this extremity. This was just.. A mess. More than mess even! A Library catastrophe!
“What?! How did this happen?! How are we supposed to find one book in this.. This mess!” Miss. Library only shook her head again sadly, shutting the novel she was reading with a soft ‘slam’ before setting onto a shelf in the desk, be extra careful to make sure in was nowhere near the edge of the desk. “Apparently, in this sea of books, there are some kids running amok."

Kukki nodded in understanding, pulling back away from the desk only to cross her arms with a heavy sigh. “Okay, me and Bit will go in and find the book, along with straightening out these.. Trouble makers,” Miss. Library only nodded in return before reaching down, opening a small drawer and pulling out a small, silver key. “There are some shelves that have locks on them, the book might be in there, but, with those kids, you might not need the key.. But it’s good to have it on you at least.” Kukki eagerly agreed before snatching the key, kneeling down before Bit and holding it before the fox’s face.
“Hey, Bit. I want you to hold this around your neck! Thank you!” Before the copper colored fox could reply, the rope attached to the key was tied loosely around her neck. “Let’s go! Thanks Miss. Library for all of your help!” Kukki eagerly waved to the woman before racing into the mass of shelves and books that seemed to emit her favorite smell, the scent of books that have been rarely opened, fairly old and hold the finger prints of people possibly from hundreds of years ago.

Wandering through the countless rows of shelves, running her fingers across the spines of book that could have been centuries old, the worn fabric making the sensors in her fingers tingle pleasantly. "Ahh.. I just love libraries, don't you Bit?" Kukki turned her head with a content grin on her face, watching as the copper colored fox only nodded before continuing on ahead of the bluenette, the only sign that she wasn't thoroughly annoyed or agitated for some odd reason was the fact that her tail was brushing against the ground, swaying from side to side as she walked.
Kukki just sighed again, following after Bit, though, as she walked, the titles of the books seemed to be more random. They weren't neatly organized as the bluenette would have expected them to be. Soon it went from 'The twin tales or two tails' to '13 ways to cook for kids'. It was completely, out of control bizarre! "I'm sure you've already noticed that the books are all over the place, nothing is organized as it should be."

Kukki only nodded in agreement to the fox’s words, even though she knew that Bit wouldn’t have been able to see the motion. After what seemed to be countless hours of wandering throughout the library, they finally went there separate ways and soon, Kukki came across a shelf that had only a few books on it, along with a silver gate hanging off of it’s invisible hinges. ‘Well.. There goes my idea that this place didn’t have any magic in it. Oh well.’ Kukki shook her head roughly to rid her of her thoughts approaching the shelf with dangerous curiosity along with well needed hesitation and caution.
But, when she ran a finger against the binding of one of the books, successfully clearing away the dust that clung to the texture desperately. “Cake... No Cat! Cat Ear? No, Eye! Cat Eye.. Ring!” Finally reading the title correctly, the fading letters had made it much more complicated to read than it should have been. After gripping the book tightly in her arms, squealing happily as she hoped around in a circle. “Oi! Bit! I found it! ‘Cat Eye Ring!’"

As soon as Kukki had uttered those words, Bit was racing back towards her, a happy glint in her own honey colored eyes. “Yes! Mission accomplished!” When Bit turned the last corner to reach her friend, she immediately tripped over her own tail and skid the last few feet to Kukki, unsurprisingly making the bluenette break out into fits of laughter. “Oh.. Oh my god.. Oh my.. Oh my god, Bit! That.. Th-That was.. Oh god!” Hunching over, her arms desperately wrapping around her stomach in attempts to settle her laughter. “That was priceless! Bit tripping on her own tail!” Whack! “Hey! That hurt!” The fox only shot an unamused look to the girl, before muttering under her breath - “It was supposed to hurt, numskull..”
Pretending not to have heard her companions retort, Kukki straightened herself before holding out the book they were supposed to fetch happily. “See! It’s ‘Cat Eye Ring’! I found it, I found it!” Bit only nodded, a smile gracing her muzzle with amused pride at the bluenette’s childish behavior - “Yep, you found it! No, let’s go check it out!"

When Kukki had held out the book, the high pitch sound of children laughing echoed in their ears before the bluenette felt a weightiness in her hands and when she looked down to where the book was supposed to be, their was only air. “Oi! Where’d the book go!” Her question was answered when a voice echoed through the area of the library they were in. “If you want this book, you have to catch us! If you even can, old woman!” Kukki snapped her head towards a group of laughing kids who were surrounding the one that was holding the book Bit and Kukki were here for in the air, waving it around. “I am not old you puny brats! Now give us that book back!”
The kid only shook his head, releasing another laughed before he turned and raced in the opposite direction. “C’mon! you want this book, don’t ya?!” Kukki only let out a frustrated grunt, racing off after them all the while leaving a shocked fox behind. “Did she.. Did she just get called an old woman?” Though, before she could loose herself to laughter, Bit quickly sprinted after them, letting out yips and barks in annoyance, frustration and amusement.

Racing down another isle, past rows and rows of books, novels and pages filled with nothing but words that formed not only a story, but a new way to express emotions. “Give us that book back you brats! We need that!” All they got in return was another group of laughters and the sound of small footsteps sprinting off in a new direction. “GOD DAMMIT! GIVE US THAT BOOK BACK!” Coming to a shuddering halt at the sound of Bit’s howling voice, the group of kids who were several feet in front of them turned in shock towards the fox who was crouched forward, her lips pulled back in a snarl.
“Give. The. Book. Back. NOW!” Both Kukki and the group of young boys flinched back at Bit who was spitting out her words, furred chest heaving as her lungs desperately yearned for air. The bluenette who was just about a foot ahead of the fox, cautiously slid back beside her companion, kneeling down and gently running her own fingers through the copper colored fur.

After realizing into Kukki’s gesture, the copper colored fox slumped tiredly against the girls frame while she turned and pleaded, “Give us the book back. That book is for an old woman who lives in this village and we really need to get it to her..” The bluenette held out her free hand, motioning for the boy who was holding the book to place it in her hand. “Now, give it back or this fox here,” Kukki motioned towards Bit who was glaring harshly at the children, “Will give you such a harsh scolding your ears will bleed!” The children looked quite skeptical for a moment, but when Bit had pulled back her lips in a snarl to prove that Kukki wasn’t bluffing the kids quickly shuffled over before shoving the book into the bluenette’s awaiting hands and running off. “Thank you!”
When the duo were sure they kids were gone, Bit hopped back onto her feet before heading in the direction where the main desk was, leaving Kukki to ogle happily at the book again, flipping rapidly through the old pages as she hopped to her own, nonexistent feet and followed after the fox. Though, when they had checked out the book and gave the old woman who had requested they find the book, the bluenette was thoroughly disappointed by the fact that she didn’t have time to finish ‘Cat Eye Ring.'
